Hey guys, thanks so much watching! I'm really loving the FX30 so far, it's such an incredible camera! The main purpose of this video is to highlight how great this camera is not only for people just entering the cinema camera world, but for those that have experience and are using this camera for professional work. This video is from my opinion based on my line of work which is wedding videography. My primary camera is the FX3 and my B-cam has been the A7SIII for the last year. Since getting the FX30 I found that I rarely use the A7SIII for day to day filming, and that with the FX30 I could easily replace the A7SIII's purpose as a B-cam static tripod angle for weddings. If I were starting out again, I'd be confident to film with a three FX30 only camera set up for weddings. The tech now is so incredible for the price! With all that being said, I have decided to keep the A7SIII for now. Currently, my main camera line up for weddings is the Sony FX3, FX30, and A7SIII. These three cameras all serve different purposes and you really can't go wrong with any one of them. Let me know if you want me to make a detailed video of the differences and purposes of use for each of these cameras. Hope you enjoy the video!

"IT'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR HOLLYWOOD SO IT SHOULD BE GOOD ENOUGH FOR REGULAR FOLKS"
I once believed this same opinion, and it's probably true for some folks. But I definitely want a bigger sensor than what's in Hollywood cameras. Many of us are not trying to emulate Hollywood movies, we're just trying to make the best videos for ourselves with minimal effort. Hollywood cameras don't offer IBIS or OS, but many of us still love that non-Hollywood camera feature. Full frame offers better lighting as well, meaning less lights are needed for creating content. And don't even get me started on the absence of autofocus on a feature length movie set.
Crop sensor cameras are awesome, as is this FX30. However, the argument for them being overtly sufficient for consumers because they're good enough for Hollywood, is categorically false. I don't have a camera crew when I shoot, so, yes, I need these features. They aren't Hollywood certified but they definitely make my life easier when creating. In fact, that is why they were created in the first place. I'll worry about mastering Hollywood cameras when Spielberg offers me a job on his next movie. Until then, give me all the the crutches and cheat codes for homemade content creation. I'll take it!

Thanks for your input! A lot of it comes down to what type of videography a person is doing. Having the best gear is great and the tech is so good these days, but also story drives films more so than image quality in my opinion. At the end of the day a person should buy whatever camera suits them the best. Thanks for watching!

I actually sold my A7iv for the FX30. Yes, the A7iv is a great camera. But, I am 99% a filmmaker. Since getting my FX30, I've been blown away by the quality of imagery I've gotten out of it. Of course, the user has a lot to do with what you get out of any camera. But, I do not regret making the switch. I'm currently filming a web series with my FX30 and I could not be happier with the results.
When people make a big deal out of the FX30's APS-C (aka Super 35) sensor, they forget - or don't know - that most professional studios shoot with cameras that have Super 35 sensors. That being said, one of the cameras I hope to get one day is the FX6. With the FX6 and FX30 together, I can get pretty much get anything I want for my projects. (Oh, and I subscribed).

Got the A7IV and had it since, Hate the over heating but actually love the quality of the video and features, Plus it is way better in lowlight. Not to mention I can do full frame 24p 4K and 60p cropped just like the FX30. Just wondering how you are feeling about the FX30 after 1 year and if you are still happy you switched it for the FX30? I actually never shot 120p 4K on the FX3 and to tell you the truth never really shot much 12.800 iso either. Anyways thanks if you could comment after having it for a year.

However, not sure what you are seeing but I did some testing. When I got my camera I went with a friend at night and did 10 location-test setups. I only had various street lamps, storefront lamps etc. The image was amazing, even bumped the ISO to around 4000 and the image was totally usable on my Benq4k. Also, never once was a frame out of focus. Using SLOG on the a6400 the autofocus would jump. But never once did I lose autofocus. I am super pleased with the quality of the FX30.

I think it's a mistake to sell your a7siii, if it was for the FX3 ok why not. I really don't understand this choice. The rolling shutter of the fx30 is not as good as the a7siii, the crop is crazy, and the iso... you had a good cinema camera with the a7siii and you just downgrading to "cinema" budget camera. I think we have to remember that when the fx3 came out it was just the same that the a7siii without an evf. You maybe juste had to wait for a firmware update of the a7siii.

If you are outside, trying to assess what you are trying film using that screen alone in my opinion is a quite a gamble. I would love for you to share a video shot at a wedding reception indoors with natural lighting, between the a7siii and the FX30. I agree that for the price and what it does it is a good system, but when you are filming and sometimes their are no second takes, I want to know I have enough sensor room for corrections. fx30 with 18-105 power zoom lens can be used as a replacement of camcorders, like pxw-z150 whose low light quality is trash

hello how are you, i follow your youtube channel and now your instagram, i would like to know if i can ask you a question about the fx30, i see that you make a lot of videos about this camera, the truth is that i have the sony a7iii and i want to change equipment, i I dedicate more than anything to video, and I don't know which camera to buy, I'm between the fx30 and the a7iv, I use the sigma 28-70 f2.8, and I've seen many reviews about these two cameras and I'm still undecided, because of the budget it fits better The fx30 is worth my money, but I don't want to regret all the videos out there saying that this camera suffers a lot in low light, which doesn't happen with the 7iv which is much better, what would you recommend to me about your experience of use with the fx30 and the 7iv, I really appreciate your opinion

    • @TheAugusts

That is a really tough choice! If you're just doing video work then I'd go for the FX30, but if you do photo work as well, definitely go for the A7IV. Both are great cameras, but serve different purposes. Also, the FX30 does pretty good in low light. The reason many people say it doesn't is because they are comparing it to the FX3 which is better than most cameras on the market in regards to low light. Hope that helps!
