Taking Chance has to be one of the most moving Military films I’ve ever seen. Seen it at least seven times and it gets me every time. Respect to all the allied fallen 🇬🇧 . RIP PFC Phelps
The one scene that got me was when he met that other soldier escorting another fallen soldier and it came out that soldier was escorting his own brother home. I have chills just remembering it! And the other scene was when all those cars turned on their lights like they were in the funeral procession and the big rig started it all. I'm so glad Kevin Bacon won a Golden Globe for that movie! Such an excellent movie. I don't think I'll ever forget it. We owe them so much - willing to give up their lives to keep us and others free. It doesn't get anymore patriotic than that. God Bless them all - past, present and future.
This is one of the best movies I've seen about the burial of a Brother Marine. My oldest Brother was in the Army and my other Brother and I were in the Marine Corps. My oldest Brother had burial detail after he returned from Vietnam in the Pacific Northwest as he was short. He would tell us how they would go to the funeral for the Army's Vietnam war Dead and how they were treated by families. We lost our first Cousin in Vietnam in 68 and I remember the day my Aunt got notified like it was yesterday. It was a lot different back then, than it was during the war on terrorism. This movie shows how much Respect and Honor the USA shows for it's current Veterans. Semper Fi PFC Phelps
It gets me when he met that SSgt. at the airport and he asked "are you related to the deceased son???" His answer simple but real hard to swallow "he is my brother".
He presented that question more as a token of respect. He knew there was some relation the moment SSgt said his family will greet them at the final location, that’s why called him “son”. That was a very dignified response without prying, appropriate for a Marine and for any Armed Force personnel. The nation owes a huge debt to our fallen heroes.
I was there in TQ (Al-Taqaddum Air Base) with the Marine Corps on April 9, 2004 with my AH-1W helicopter squadron providing CASEVAC ops when they brought Chance Phelp's body back to our base. I didn't know it at the time, but I'm sure it was him, so this movie has a special meaning to me. Semper Fidelis PFC Phelps.
If you're suffering from PTSD i would recommend you to watch a movie - 'To Heal A Nation'. There are others like Born in the 4th of July, Captain Newman MD, Best years of our lives but this one is special too. Cease Fire (Don Johnson) and Distant Thunder (John Lithgow Ralph Machhio Karate Kid) are also 2 Vietnam War era moving films i love till date.
I was there at TQ the same time working the air field 0481 red patches when Angle flights came in the ch-46. I might have carried him off. or seen going him back with the stars and strips on C-130.
Very moving film, to understand why honour and respect to a soldier is a must. The ultimate sacrifice and why we should never forget. It ok to shed tears for the ones that didn’t make it home.
The Marine calling the commands is my father he and a few other marines were called from Billings to give a the burial scene a real feel I believe all of they did great I know all of the extras who are real marines and the 1st Sergeant was my CO for my Young Marines group amazing group of men Semper Fidelis!
I fought for freedom. Freedom is an illusion, In America the word freedom has become a catch phrase, a facade to hide the ugly truth. It's a flavor the protected will never know because they have never known actual real freedom. There is only real freedom in America for those who can afford to buy it. To say otherwise is to piss on my leg and tell me it's raining. There are 300+ thousand homeless veterans living on the streets of America. why don't you ask them what the flavor of freedom tastes like. I'm sure like myself they will be happy to tell you about this flavor you speak of. Yea good old freedom, got to admit though, that quote sounds good if nothing else. Cheers!
I am an ex Navy jet mechanic. I too did not know Chance Phelps before he died. But every time I watch this movie, usually on memorial day and veterans day, I miss him also. And I mourn the deaths of every member of the US armed forces who never came home. RIP LCPL Chance Phelps, you died a hero.band I for one am forever grateful.
I belong to a family who have served in the armed forces. My late uncle was a Captain during 1965 India Pakistan war. He died at the end of the battle in Kashmir. Respects from India and respects to all fallen American martyrs of Iraq and Afghanistan.
He was put put to rest with his uniform "perfect" as Lt Col Strobl remarked looking at him for the first time (at the funeral home... the scene that moved me the most). He will be remebered by many Marines, and this old retired Navy veteran for a long time.
The scene that moved me the most was near the end when he was going along on the Wyoming highway when approaching cars started turning their headlights on..........
That's is one of the proudest but the most heartbreaking trips a family makes, I know, I've made 2 of them an couple more to go unless I go before them. I know one more I will receive a flag too. Please God give me strength one more time if I have to walk that walk. Or if I have to help my family members make that walk. Bless those that have made that walk . 🙏🇺🇸🙏
I served during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, as did my husband. I will never forget the day at Ft. Jackson, S.C. when I first put on my uniform, and when I graduated from basic training and really felt like a soldier. My gift was nothing these men and women however have given, because I did not give my life, I only gave my service; these brothers gave all. My 3 children proudly love their nation, my daughter was devastated when she found out she could not enlist because she has RA; our youngest son plans on joining and hopefully becoming a Ranger. They have been raised on core values of integrity, honor, love of country, and the fact that one day they will receive a flag for myself and their dad, and that is the greatest thing an American can give, is the honor of their family being handed a flag in their name. I just hope it gets better in this country. God bless our brothers that died in Niger, and Frederika Wilson should be ASHAMED.
I served in Operation Enduring Freedom. My daughter joined the Air National Guard and going to her graduation was a awesome day when she got out of basic. My son will join in the next year. I am sorry for your daughter. Serving is a great thing and it is a life very few see. Unfortunately it comes with a price and the ultimate price is something that would be horrific to bear. May God bless your family with safety.
I lost a son a few years ago. Although he wasn't in the military I know the pain of watching your child being put into the ground. There is no greater pain you will ever feel in your lifetime. I pray for Chances parents and family that they can find peace. I am very grateful for heroes like Chance who gave their lives so I could live in a free country. God bless him and all of our military.
What a beautiful and touching movie. I have so much respect and honor for those who serve in the military to keep us safe. My Dad servied in the military, and I am so proud to be an American!
First time watching it again after nine months and, no I'm sorry, I can't, I can't not watch this without bursting into tears at the end when it says "For Lance Corporal Chance Phelps" and the video montage.
i am ignatia from JKT Indonesia, me too couple times seeing this true story makes me cry, so touching, we learn from this story abut willingness and humbleness, how a higher position person in military would like accompany taking Chance P. home who is lower position than him in a long journey. and along its journey every vehicle on the road put respect for the car carrying the body oh Chance P. And i saw that there is no force rider or anything which is as usual show in my country along the journey. I really respect of this.. we learned a lot of things from this movie, especially how being a humble person in a high position in our live, it is not easy because people usually showing their ego seeking a crazy respect from others, but this we learn how giving respect eventhought to the dead person... salute to this true story and this story remember us approaching to commemorate The Good Friday because Chance P was killed on a Good Friday too
Marines don't die. They just find a better vantage point in the heavens. Still they defend this nation. Thank you Chance Phelps for your service and sacrifice.
What concerns me now is how indoctrinated as well as self centered our young have become - no obligation to join the services. I am from a military family who has given over 100 years of service, and I have the utmost respect for these volunteers. Never thought an election could be stolen like the last one. Never thought criminals could fool so many and get elected I love this movie, even though it had me in tears. Chance Phelps was a really good person from a very good family. His sacrifice was the ultimate one - and a grateful appreciates that. Semper Fi !
@@sandragreen9560 You are entitled to your belief. The election was the fairest and freest in history. Your President lost "bigly" and my President won undeniably!
I was good the whole movie through until they showed pictures of the real life Chance and videos from when he was a little boy. Then the tears were rolling down my cheeks. Wonderful movie everyone should see. 🇺🇸❤️
this is one awsome movie...the salute that kevin displayed was impectable..this movie warms your heart to show how we take care of our own..thank you phelps family for allowing this movie to be shown. you should be proud of chance as he was a fine young man and very fine marine..
This was Hollywood at its best: the Firefight was confined to the opening scene (no "M60 Rambo-Fest"), the remainder was its consequences and to me, most touching; I'm certain that this movie helped the distraught families of our recent struggles (I'm an old British "Tommie").
I remember I use to watch this in my 8th period AFJROTC class my sophomore year in High School (My first year to a Texas school) for the parts we could get too (we finished it) but I actually love the movie and it had me in tears a little but this movie we always be remembered... even though I was sad to leave that school and my ROTC class since I couldn't take it due to classes my junior year. Going into my Senior Year and couldn't take the class, made me sad which is why I remember the movies we watch, taking chance was one of them. I was at that school for my sophomore & junior year ( some of the days there we're miserable and I was glad I left but it will never change all the great memories I had there! Senior year should be good.... C/O 2017

I don't know if this was true or not it was the scene with TSA at an airport that gave Col. Strobel trouble and disrespect for the Marine uniformed service member during the screening process. Do they actually still use that practice.

June 22, 1993. The last day I wore the uniform of an Airman in the United States Air Force. I lost friends and served through two wars.
I served during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, as did my husband. I will never forget the day at Ft. Sorry for your loss. My love and prayers to you and your family.
I lost my husband its hurts to see young ones died in the battlefield...RIP ..
i am very sorry for your loss
The age of your child, the cause of death does not matter. You bury a part of yourself with your child.
Great movie. Makes me cry every time I watch it
What a beautiful and touching movie. I have so much respect and honor for those who serve in the military to keep us safe. My Dad servied in the military, and I am so proud to be an American!

The movies name is "Taking Chance" ... Not chances
The title of this movie is taking Chance and not taking chances.
