Ah Frankston line Ive travelled on that for years. Great video. Thank you. Err would you be able to do an updated one some time but hey Im just being picky.
Oh, I love so much this Comeng motor sound. That sole reason is enough to make me come back to Australia in the next 2 years- as soon as airfares become affordable again. Tks for another great video!
Well unfortunately the Coming trains are gradually being replaced by new trains, but I expect that some will still be around for several more years. Start saving!
That’s why I’m in a rush. I suppose after Meteo Tunnel opens in 2025 and also the new generation of X’Trapolis rolls out, very few of them will remain in service. Hopefully 2023 will be a year for great deals when it comes to airfares hehehe As for the video, I’m guessing it was filmed very early in the morning, considering very few trains running citybound and only 2-3 people waiting at Mordialloc.
Some of the ‘HCMT’ trains have been in service a while now although I did not ride any on my last trip. I expect they will continue to arrive but don’t recall how big the first order was but 150 more cars are on order. My driver advises that Train patronage is now 80% of pre-Covid. While some people now have to stand in the peak hour, they don’t have to jam in like sardines. Meanwhile I will be there in February.
@@tressteleg1 I've heard the CBD is now quieter on weekdays than before, given lots of people are now working from home. In the other hand, it's busier than ever on weekends, fueled by shopping and other leisure activities. Hope they make the proper adjustments to timetables in order to cater for that. Beforehand, I hope you have a nice and safe trip in February. Will be looking forward to watching the great content that will come from it!
City shops, especially lunch providers, are suffering badly from all the people working at home. Many will never return to full time office work. As for timetables, for the moment it is probably a matter of ‘wait and see’ what passenger numbers do. I’m sure the trip will be safe - unless I get Covid which happened last March. Anyway you can contact me in March or April as I may have more information then. By the way, did you come to Melbourne as a tourist or worker?
Well this was very early in the morning. I would think uni students would be more likely to be on late night trains after extra study time while downing some ‘light ales’ (Ha Ha ha)
Yeah I thought from the deserted stations it was around 2am or something. And yeah uni's an awesome time from my experience, made some good friends (which is way more valuable than any degree imo)
Yes it was actually a couple of hours later than that. I’m not surprised that you say that the social side of university was more important than the degree. I think those required to take lectures at home during Covid missed out on a lot.
Yeah indeed, I was definitely quite lucky to get a fair bit of that social side before covid, made some great memories as well. Just impossible making friends online
Thanks Richard. It is interesting that the roadbed is so different to most of Qld and NSW in that the sleepers and rock ballast are only visible at stations and anywhere where there is new roadbed. The rest just looks like rail laid on bare earth
In places, there is probably not much more than mud under the sleepers, with quite a few still being wood. Qld and NSW have been all concrete sleepers on main lines for ages.
I think it is New South Wales, maybe also Queensland, gradually installing equipment which could make driverless trains possible. The liberal government in New South Wales would love automatic trains, that’s why they are building metro lines and downgrading the Bankstown rail line to Metro. As for trams, they have a much greater problem for automation, and that is idiots who choose to stand in front of a tram and block it indefinitely, knowing that it will automatically stop upon sensing the person’s presence.
Yes I will check it out next summer. I took quite a bit of video of the crossing and station on previous visits. Are train still running through, or is the line closed at present.
at least it shows the works to remove stations so it is not that old and light levels will change apearansce on items hence ballast looks like dirt between stations and ballast at stations
Playing the video at 2x the horn was certainly much more noticeable. I imagine the driver would tend to ignore it after a while. Shame it's needed so often. I wonder if it really makes much difference to safety.
Blowing the whistle would be just one of those things you do automatically and ignore. Usually the person making a noise is ready for it and can thus ignore it.
I have noticed with the xtraps when they don’t stop or have express services when they reach platforms it feels like the train floats and rolls any reason why
I don’t know why that should be the case. XTraps are the only Melbourne trains which don’t have air suspension, just ordinary springs, but I’m not a driver. I’ll see if he has anything to say about this.
From our driver “I would say it's completely the opposite of what he describes. Those trains pitch and roll and bounce everywhere including when passing through platforms. The exception would be passing through a platform with recently relaid track, which are the only bits of track to ever receive routine maintenance as opposed to upgrading as part of major projects. So sections of track between stations that need altering due to level crossing removals or other projects will be of a reasonable standard once the project is complete. Otherwise track sections receive scant attention and resulting ride quality is of a low standard.”
Ok i understand . I live in the area of these two stations and since their completion the traffic flows much easier they were both nightmares in the afternoon samr with the one in clayton rd near monash hospital
Yes the road traffic much improved. Ive gad reason to visit monash and b4 the clayton rd removal it took at least 20 minutes to get up clayton rd from centre rd end now it takes only 5 mins and mentone was always a nightmare with the buses and traffic now its much better
Brilliant as ever tressteleg, keep 'em coming...........
😊👍

Things are a bit tricky with more recent videos lately but I will update when possible.

Very unusual to see Richmond station so deserted. Thanks for uploading, very enjoyable to see the rail network so quiet.
Yes, long before most people are out of bed!
@@tressteleg1 calm before the storm
Great vid
Almost as good as being on the train. Thanks for posting.

Smart video!👏👏👏👏👍
at 5 am in the morning acording to the clock on caufield station no wonder no one arround at richmond
That might well have a little to do with it!
What's the time frame do you think before automation takes the rolls of our train/tram drivers? Ideally not for a long time I hope

Some of these crossings are gone now and Glenhuntly station is no more
Yes I will check it out next summer. I took quite a bit of video of the crossing and station on previous visits. Are train still running through, or is the line closed at present.

Nice train ride
Darkness, nonstop run without passenger, deserted stations suggest an equipment move. Thank you Tressteleg1.😀💚
Yes. Whether this was a routine run or an unusual run to cover some situation, I do not know..
One Dollar for everytime the driver needs the train horn😄
😄
Playing the video at 2x the horn was certainly much more noticeable. I imagine the driver would tend to ignore it after a while.

It sends me sleeping
I usually also nod off doing last minute checking while sitting in my recliner chair 😄
This is old as cheltenham and mentone are below road level and have been for a while now
True, but this step in the process had not been published before, and an update will be published in due course.
Ok i understand . I live in the area of these two stations and since their completion the traffic flows much easier they were both nightmares in the afternoon samr with the one in clayton rd near monash hospital
I guess you mean the road traffic. While these crossing removals are touted as rail improvements, they benefit Road traffic very much more.
Yes the road traffic much improved. Ive gad reason to visit monash and b4 the clayton rd removal it took at least 20 minutes to get up clayton rd from centre rd end now it takes only 5 mins and mentone was always a nightmare with the buses and traffic now its much better
Proves what I said. Touted as a rail improvement, it is really a road traffic improvement 😊
