Scary to think this piece, the same as Shiva's Oblivion, is not even performed by a real singer, Sokken just heard a Squenix employee talk with smooth baritone and decided this guy has to sing for him xD
Bass, not baritone
I just love the silliness of a guy singing about how much he loves tearing you apart while he tears you apart.
Makes me think this would be Zenos' Primal
@@Calvinooi Zenos already got Shinryu, greedy boy can't have two xD
@@NotimPorten just imagine if we had that ability back then it'd be like dark blast from pso2.
@@NotimPorten I think Zenos would've been a more amicable guy if he had Ravana instead of Shinryu XD
@@NotimPorten Look man; I can at least try getting them to go out for drinks together. WoL needs a break from looking over their shoulder out of fear of "SURPRISE ZENOS"
FF14's first entirely original Primal, and they knocked it out of the park. A great fight, a great theme, and a great character that people remember fondly as this honorable warrior who just LOVES a good fight, win or lose, and talks like he just loves life.
Man, I’m just now realizing that Ravana is just Zenos if Zenos didn’t suck.
He is awesome, and everything about the fight is cool, but I just wanna point out he isn't entirely original. He's based off of the demon-king character Ravana from the 'Ramayana' (ancient Hindu epic). And a lot of his attacks point to the Hindu lore as well - Surpanakha (his sister who was humiliated, whom he's taking vengeance for), Tapasya (tapas means rigorous meditative penance which he is said to have done for thousands of years to get the favour of the god of destruction Shiva), and Atma-Linga (Shiva is worshipped using a Shiva-linga, and when he is worshipped in meditation, he is asked to enter into the person's Atma or soul and worshipped internally)
@@arjunsubrahmanian7535 They meant original as in not from a previous entry in the series. Very few primals/summons/whatever they're called at the time are original. They are almost all based off of some kind of pre-existing mythological or religious figure.
@@MaskedHeroLucky not really ravana just lives for the fight and will protect his people, zenos just lives for the hunt, its different but similar , while zenos will only fight what he deems as "worthy" fighters, ravana will fight for fight sake and take on all comers.
untill only he is left, as zenos was board to death aas he saw no worthy prey, ravan cares not if is quarry is worthy or not he just wants all the smoke.
I have not played FFXIV yet and I am in love with the epicness of this song.
But as I have seen this comment and Final Fantasy Wiki saying that he is the first entirely original Primal and the only Primal that wasn't based on any previous summon on a Final Fantasy game... I also think Ravana resembles Zirconiade, a summon from Before Crisis Final Fantasy VII that was released only on japanese mobile phones in a distant past...
But I admit, as I never played both of those games, I don't know exactly how they are alike in terms of appearance.
"The bold blindly march on, their lives lost in a song..." what a perfect line to describe the dragonsong war
Ah, Ravana. One of the few Primals that genuinely seems to be having a great time during the fight.
Seeing how he is the first unique Primal that came from FFXIV, i hope he gets his Ultimate fight one day.
Him and Susana both. Both of them are easily in my top 5 favourite trials in the game.
@@KMCA779 to be honest I think the primals were by far the best part of Stormblood. Lakshmi is my favorite
Funny, I came here specifically to mention Sussano and Lakshmi
Susanno is dancing the whole time and Lakshmi is just trying to charm you into submission - they both love what they're doing
Ravana and Susano are my two favorite primals for this reason and many others.
Ravana: *begins his 2nd phase*
Sprout: Oh god what did we mess up
Me: This is the best part
Indeed it is.
"First time?"
“Gazing down to see the endless garden awaiting me” is such a fitting line for what’s essentially a bug god.
I really like his dialogue throughout the fight. A primal who enjoys the battle.
Rejoice in the glory of combat!
Just feel like Ravana and Susano would get along pretty well. By that i mean theyd have to fight but theyd be best pals doing it!
The first time I saw Susanoo, I immediately said "Okay Ravana, I know that's you. Take the cosplay off."
the two of them are quite literally just that meme
"Someone is going to die."
"Of fun!"
They are definitely homies
They are definitely homies
Make the FFXIV equivalent of the Throne of Heroes. Every time they'll be summoned they'll square up like homies meeting up.
I recently played through Heavensward for the first time and after all is said and done, man do I love the way Ravana is set up.
He is an outsider looking in. He sees the Dragonsong War for what it is, a cycle of bloodshed and vengeance.
And he loves it. He revels in it. He is a god of war, so this war is to him the greatest of ecstasy.
And the entirety of the war is summed by his song.
In the first chorus the bold fight ever on, but by the second verse the bold have forgotten why they fight and just blindly march.
But even after generations the war continues as it always did. The dead giving rise to the next generation to continue the war.
And he wants the war to escalate. To spread and for more people to get drawn into it, so that eventually all but him lie dead in a sea of blood.
Thoroughly enjoyed this story.
Alternatively, the bold are the Dragons and the Forgotten are the Ishgardians, since they such different lifespans.
@@Yuriko-Hime I don't really think the Dragons would be the bold here. The lyrics say that the bold blindly march on, but the Dragons are the only side fighting with a measure of clarity.
The Ishgardians may not remember why the war is fought, but as Dragons live forever, they do. The foul betrayal of Thordan and his Knights as they cruelly murdered Ratatoskr out of greed is fresh in their minds. They remember it like it happened last week. Nidhogg remembers his sister's battered corpse, he remembers the smell of her blood splattered on the ground.
And so does Hraesvelgr. He's still furious and griefstricken too, he just has Shiva's soul to calm him, and being an idealist always wanted to believe peaceful coexistence was possible.
D
@@justinlee790 Consider though that the dragons are blinded by their lust for revenge.
He sounds like a good fit as a disciple of Khorne. He care not from where the blood flows, only that it does.

I love the no HUD gameplay behind the lyrics it looks so clean
it's pretty cool that his swords are called chandrahas.
"chandrahas" was, in a hindu epic, an indestructible sword gifted (by shiva) to, you guessed it, ravana. both are antagonists in the story, and ravana was said to be shiva's foremost devotee. while not really relevant to the plot (as shiva and ravana are primals of opposing factions), it's a cool detail.
several other aspects of the story are referenced in his fight, too, but this comment is long enough,,,,,
No do finish the story! It's quite interesting, I would love to hear the rest of it.
True! I'd like to add to the lore as well, for the benefit of others.
He's actually based off of the demon-king character Ravana from the 'Ramayana' (ancient Hindu epic). And a lot of his attacks point to the Hindu lore as well - Surpanakha (his sister who was humiliated, whom he's taking vengeance for), Tapasya (tapas means rigorous meditative penance which he is said to have done for thousands of years to get the favour of the god of destruction Shiva), and Atma-Linga (Shiva is worshipped using a Shiva-linga, and when he is worshipped in meditation, he is asked to enter into the person's Atma or soul and worshipped internally).
@@feetpicburglar There are many stories of Ravana. One of them puts him in a sort of noble light.
He was a mortal but was a very talented warrior and a very good leader. Whenever he fights, he wins, often by challenging the enemy commander in a trial of honor (who ever dies, the army surrenders). Eventually, he was seen by the gods and was granted a wish. He wished to be unable to be killed by the divine (the gods) because he believed no mortal can kill him. The gods naively granted this wish.
Ravana began a conquest and was about to conquer the whole of India. This worried the gods because they are afraid he can challenge the gods and win (I think they tried sending down one of their divine warriors to kill him but you know that gift they gave him? Whoops. Can't be killed by the divine).
Eventually, they made one of the warrior gods reborn as a mortal (I think it was shiva). Shiva after growing up, challenge ravana to a duel. Ravana honored the challenge and was defeated.
Then India went back to a mess as many leaders strive for the throne.
@@cygnusereve4779 that story has some strange parallels to the story in game

“Yes, blood trickling down to Hydaelyn”
Very interesting line. I’m only three duties into Shadowbringers, still very unclear on what Hydaelyn and Zodiark are really about.
it might refer to hydaelyn as in the planet or star, rather than hydaelyn as in the goddess. hydaelyn is used to refer to both
@@claire-xh6rn Fair point, you’re probably right. It just kinda gave me a chill to hear her name invoked like that, even if it isn’t directly referring to her.
@@CodinskiSchwartzando Yeah most in the earlier expansion refer to our star as hydaelyn.
@@CodinskiSchwartzando So, where are ya now?
@@claire-xh6rn Fandom has kinda adopted this for the Source as well, with the canon Ancient name usually used to refer to the Source and reflections as one, I've noticed.
Those four glowing blades and his wings... this guy's aesthetics are on point.
I love how Ravana is just here for a good time, not a long time. A true combat junkie, respect.
Rejoice in the glory of another excellent video
My favorite long cast in the game so far "prelude to slaughter"
*rejoices in the glory of combat*
Ravana was the first original primal we faced in FFXIV, and boy do they make sure he stands out.
AH, GENERAL KENOBI
An elegant joke for a more civilized age
To this day, one of my favorite songs in the entire game. Also one of my favorite fights.
I had very fond memories of the extreme version of this fight when it was relatively new. I remember joining a PUG (basically not party finder) for the extreme trial. We died sooo many times but we continued. No one left even for small mistakes. The 2nd last attempt, we had gone into the last mechanic right before the last mechanic but Ravana casted Warlord's Shell (i think) and started casting the pushback. BUT we had no walls left to prevent us from getting knocked into. So, we panicked, laughed, died and then laughed again.
The next attempt after that we beat Ravana. But add phase was always a pain because people don't like to target the adds or focus on the that appeared first.
Did I really need to get this stuck in my head all day?
Yes I did.
A vocalist so powerful he is just named Dan.
Ravana is definitely one of the most memorable Primals. I can remember the others bc they were classic FF summons but Ravana I can remember for his one badass line
*REJOICE IN THE GLORY OF COMBAT!*
While I think contest is a more fitting word for ravanna, I’m certain the lyrics say conquest instead
It does sound more like conquest then contest to me.
Right but Ravanna's whole purpose isn't to invade others but defend the hive.
@@Blitzwaffen He's a war god. conquest fits
@@Blitzwaffen like I said, contest fits better, but I hear conquest
Yea 100% conquest
I hope he makes appearances in future FFs. He’s so goddamn cool
This reminds me of the songs of the Landsknecht. Medieval war songs of mercenaries who lived through warfare. Pretty cool song!
One of the better Primal OSTs in the game.
Still one of the best soundtracks from FFXIV, this feels so damn powerfull.
I can imagen the sound of marching feet in the background to this.
Every time the Rose Lanner pops in my mount roulette, it takes me a while to picture Ravana, a four-armed weird-wasp-ant-fly God warrior, with this as it's theme. I ain't complaining tho
WE REJOICING IN THE GLORY OF COMBAT WITH THIS ONE 🔥🔥
My god, his baritone is amazing. I can scarcely get that low trying, and he does it effortlessly it seems. My throat would never forgive me if I ever had to repeatedly perform this song.
Klingon opera is the best.
I would give anything to have him fight susano somehow
Vocals: Dan
I love it.
That segment of 'red bloometh the roses of contest' actually sound more like 'conquest' to me.
it is conquest
I put it on loop and still havnt stopped.
I remember seeing Ravana, and the way he was Summoned was cool o me that I fell in Love with him :D
The strings in this song are just insane. Literally stop breathing everytime.
What a wonderfull singing voice, holy moly such a deep voice. Amazing❤️
For those curious, btw, this musical/singing style is German high opera!
I got to fight Ravana for the first time as a starting DK a few days ago, the other higher level tank wiped around the time the second phase popped and I legitimately thought we were all about to wipe, because I legit thought this was the start of a wipe mechanic I missed.
Instead its practically me and Ravana have a sick ass duel while THIS plays.
I was sold on Tanking for the rest of the game after that.
This song has grown on me a lot. I've always thought it was a little goofy but now I'm in Shadowbringers, I'm like,,, damn.
Sometimes I think about this fight and song. Good feeling somehow.
Ok so, I would die for this legend.
Feels like a song you’d sing a pub with the boys.
"Their lives lost in a song" holy shit please tell me they thought this far ahead..
Nah, it's just a reference to the Dragonsong War. Same with Rise. It's just looking back that you think this coincidence was intentional.
You know one thing I love about Ravana? It’s not merely an entity of fire, ice or storm; all specific yet vague enough that specific that you’d have to pray to the primal itself for it to gain any strength. No, Ravana is a primal of _WAR,_ a domain humanity has ever and will ever know intimately.
Spoilers ahead for the entirety of shadowbringers.
It is not for abundance of crystals or tempered that Ravana is powerful enough to repel dragons; it is for prayer. Just as wanting the star’s salvation gives Zodiark strength, the very war you’re trying to end is giving him strength. Every combatant and every supporter of the war. That woman who drugged you in the patch content is giving Ravana strength. Every member of the Heavens’ ward is giving Ravana strength. Every despondent Ishgardian and heretic is giving Ravana strength. Even _YOU,_ joining the war if only to end it, are giving Ravana strength. Even the explicitly anti-primal garleans are all giving Ravana strength. Especially the garleans.
_”Red bloometh the rise of conviction, red bloometh the rose of hate, red bloometh the rose of conquest._ It does not matter why one goes to war here; all fall under Ravana’s domain.
Gosh dang Heavensward was good
So FFXIV's version of Khorne, mightiest Chaos God for the only way to end him is by perpetuation the very thing that created - IS - him.
my fav boss fight the music 10/10 the boss himself 10/10 the fight 10/10 masterpiece!!!! this is how you do Boss fights
Great job Dan.
The one fight I don't mind re-queueing to get a spell as Blue Mage
Ah yes my second favorite song of the Lanners. (My first is Sophia's song)
Hey gamers back at it again
with a RAVANA DND BOSS ENCOUNTER.
I’d rate this one about a 4/5 stars in terms of difficulty for players level 8-12
Ravana has a total of 300 hp and has 17 AC he has proficiency in str checks and has 24 Str 20 Dex 18 Con 9 int 14 wis and 16 Cha he is immune to all damage from non magical weapons
So first Seeing tail, depending on which version he uses he’ll either have +2 ac or +2 to his attack rolls
He’ll follow up with revengance which is a 10 foot melee attack with +10 to hit, dealing 3d6 slashing and 2d10 fire
after a turn he’ll use prelude to slaughter which is an arena wide aoe that pushes 10 feet back for players who fail the dc 16 strength check and deal 4d8 slashing damage
it will be followed by a legendary action or action Slaughter which is a dc 18 dex check as Ravana chooses 2 targets to create a Line aoe on each target, hitting the other 2 players with a blast both of these attacks for simplification do 6d6 of fire damage. You can use this move on a cooldown of 5-6
When downed Ravana will begin phase two and gain a mythic action known as Bloody fuller, all party members will be given the restrained status and will take 30 points of damage. He will do this ONCE. he will do swift slaughter as a replacement which does the same hing minus the restrained status and a pass or half DC 18 Dex check.
I did not include the other knock back stuff because that requires death by falling
9 int? I would give him like 12 at least, he leads an army of bug people. But maybe I’m giving him too much credit, seems solid enough otherwise but I can’t be bothered to read every detail.
@@rachelkelley5930 9 is so he at least has a real weak stat, I’d argue wis is more important in combat
@@Some_guy_and_his_games fair point
Do you mean physical damage from non-magical weapons or are you just arbitrarily deciding he's immune to all magic and non-weapon features despite magical ranged DPS being perfectly effective against him?
Just finished Heavensward. Amazing expansion, and this one really topped it for me. Fun fight, great music, and an interesting Primal with an amazing design. Idk man, I just love this guy, hope I see more of him.
The devs put a lot of love and care into his design and theme, and it's obvious.
When this song comes on in the fight you know shits about to go down and you gotta take the fight more serious pop CDs etc lol
What a great track and a great boss
I will never get tired of shirking to the off tank in order to have my hands free to yell the lyrics in party chat. Last time I did this I got seven comms.
“Their lives lost in a song” line hits extra hard after endwalker
The line from 1:00 onwards sounds like it ends in "conquest" rather than "contest" to me.
Same, it might've been a typo on their end.
I just found myself a new hobby. Singing songs like this karaoke style with my own lyrics as I go through it. Like changing the "war rageth on" to "learning rageth on", because to me learning and growing through things that most people seem to consider seriously effed up, is the fun of life. It is rough when it's there yeah, but still fun. :) Learning to me is like that sometimes...
The first line makes me think "Who put Rammstein in my FFXIV"
Best sung prophecy of the plot of heavensward.

mongolian throat singing for boss themes is so underrated
this is not Mongolian throat. This is Lyrical bass singing. Mongolian technique is totally different and has a particular reverberance. Still great performance. Normally in lyrical music, the antagonist tends to be interpreted by bass singer to give a glooming meaning to his role.
