Even without the spoilers from the marketing, in the first episode alone we already know there are two of them. I’m glad they got that trope out of the way very quickly, and we can now focus on their backstory AND the story that is to come.

Mythologically a chimera is of course a beast composed of parts from different beasts, but metaphorically a chimera is an illusion, a mirage, a dream.
Star Wars names are often symbolic allusions (some more "on the nose" than others; yes, I'm looking at you Nute Gunray, Han Solo, Darth Sidious, etc...) so I wonder if his name is also another?

Great honest review. My issue with this series is actually the timeline and setting, for me the Jedi are so much better when they are mysterious myths and legends with amazing stories being told about them, their back stories should be left to the imagination, but it seems that Disney just want to put them front and centre, it takes away the mystery of it all, even when I was a kid growing up with Star Wars, I never wanted to know what it would be like with lots of Jedi roaming around the galaxy, it was a case of 'less is more', that's why I much prefer stories like Andor and Rouge One. Still, I will always continue to watch any Star wars show though from beginning to end, no matter what other people think of it because I'm a life long fan.

The script comes off as something a high school student would write, it is clumsy, clunky and has no natural flow to it. Their lines feel written. This in turn throws out the rhythm and timing for the actors making it come across as if they are reading it for the first time, I almost feel like each actor needs to add at the end of their line "ok your line now" or "now you speak" However to be fair I have noticed this a lot more in many other shows, though those shows usually do not come with a budget as big as this one. I cant help but wonder if the writers strike has had more of an affect than we know. Watch Andor and then this back to back, 1 ep of one then the other, the difference is shocking, like nails down a chalkboard and once you see and hear it you can never unsee / hear it.
I cant see an over the top force is female as many claim though (not yet anyway, but still early). Unlike the pain that was she hulk. But I try to never go into a thing looking for it, for if you do you may see things that are not really there to fit a bias. On second thoughts maybe you're best not to watch Andor back to back, as you enjoy this and I do not wish to ruin your enjoyment.

I hate that Sci fi shows always have detailed set/backdrops but a pristenely flat clean floor. I get it's necessary for smooth camerawork but come on..... Some paving, or props to hid the set lines and structure gaps would help. Its hard to keep a pace and appear thoughtful or spiritual and that did not work for me here, but could be the young actors being off on their delivery. Not a disaster but not capturing my interest much at the moment. I'll give it time but it's lacking.

100% agree with the dialogue writing. It feels trite at times, and worse, sometimes contrived like that last bit. You can't write illogical plot points just to get from point A (we know where the villian will be next) to next episode's point B (the attack has to happen anyway) without the audience noticing. Let me start by saying I saw the original in the cinema as a 7 year old in '78 when it was released in the UK. I grew up scouring the news and magazines for mentions of Starwars and possible new movies, was a member of the fan club so I could get bantha tracks to get more news and post Jedi when all the content we could get was a few odd cartoons and Ewok movies, and marvel comics and splinter of the minds eye. I went through the dark times, when any mention was a joy so I think having such a wealth of new product including the prequals and cartoons and any other movie as well, is a wonderful thing and I don't understand people complaining about it. If you don't like a show, don't watch it. Obviously, we will all like some bits more, and that's fine, I tried to watch the cutesy cartoon about younglings... But had to give up. All that said, I liked this show. I am glad Carrie was killed off in the first episode. I think the constant martial arts was great in a sci-fi context, but is it Star Wars? Some creature and droid designs looked a bit duplo to me, the security robot had me wondering why Bender was in it, but all that and the terrible small kid annoying the robot (that was pure school play), and some odd directional and editing choices, there was a lot to like. I'm interested to see where they go. Some good characters, a reasonable pace and parts of the universe looked like it fit right in. Also, so far no blue/purple haired superpowered character, always a bonus. The thing I am most curious to know is will the wookie jedi have a lot of singed fur from their sabre??? Anyhoo, not that anyone cares (and nor should they) but that's my opinion on it so far. Cheers for the great content Meg!

To compare the Acolyte to Andor is an absolute insult. The amount of articles thrown out saying that is clearly bait. The Acylote that drops Star Wars completely in the title etc, has so little to offer, the absurdity of how JEDI cannot sense things right in front of them, yet at times they can sense people suffering lightyears away. You're right the green painted woman doesn't look convincing and worst is her acting. For a show that boasts 160 million dollar budget, it clearly doesn't reflect the incredible dialogues and cinematography or even scenes of ANDOR. They look like they went to the Dollar store to get some Halloween paint to make the woman look green, nothing was convincing about her. Honestly the lead twin actress can't act either. For 160 million dollar budget, not to include a better storyline for someone like Carrie Ann Moss, is insane... As a filmmaker myself, I cringe at this production and overall introduction to this show. These two episodes were lackluster at best, and truly boring in so many ways, nothing was enticing or exciting, it was all positioning of the Bechdel test. But just wait till you see Episode 3... and onwards, I've seen them and it was very obvious, this is a cold rewrite of the Star Wars Mythology, retconning and 'killing' Lucas's original vision. Expect the same for Skeleton Crew as it too is now part of THIS new Star Woke. It's become void of Lucas's Star Wars core soul and identity. I could muster only 5 episodes of this show... now more than ever, I can't wait for ANDOR season 2.. I pray they didn't taint that season with this nonsense.

The opening sequence actually sums up this show pretty good.
It is a fight between 2 jedies, and we have no FECKING clue to why they are fighting. No FECKING clue to as who is good or bad. No FECKING clue as to why a small dagger is instantly deadly, and that is why we dont give a FECKING feck about who lives and who dies.
Now. I personally do not care if every character in the show is black, female and gay, but I do care about good storytelling, and in this case it SUCKS!

I won't watch this. Star Wars is dead.
This trend among modern feminists, where they imbue every show or movie with misandry, has become a problem for fantasy and sci-fi fans. They will make the main character of a story (who happens to be male) and make him a secondary-side character, completely changing the very plot of the source material (Like the Witcher). Or, they will turn a female main character into a symbol of toxic masculinity (like RIngs of Power). Or, they will just outright gender-swap the main character to a female, which the've done so many times now. This nonsense needs to stop. What's worse is that if we comment on it, we're often called misogynists. This needs to stop.
It's also extremely hypocritical and devious. They've become the very thing they hated in men. Stories used to have great women and men as characters, but now we see an all-woman casting and a repeating theme of demeaning men. True equality would equally represent both males and females, not just one or the other. This is creating more cultural problems than it's solving.
Hollywood needs to stop lazily shoving their hypocritical political beliefs into their productions. It breaks the immersion and creates more division and culture wars. Good writers with skill and care can create uplifting stories that have great plots, world-building, and character development. This is just fan fiction with surface-level writing that uses virtue signaling to attack anyone who critiques it.

If you're going to have 30-40min episodes then the writing needs to be TOP tier to establish everything correctly and satisfactorily. Scenes have to do multiple things at once. Not easy to pull off. This ain't it I'm afraid. We are in the Ahsoka position again where things feel rushed and yet dull at the same time. It's better than Bobba Fett, it's better than Obi-Wan, I feel it's on a par with Ahsoka. Not terrible but it's not good either and it certainly doesn't hold a candle to the writing and world building of Andor.

The twin thing was really obvious even without the advance publicity. In fact several other reviewers have criticised the show for stringing it out for as long as it did… I think to have strung it out for even longer would have seriously underestimated the viewers and been quite irritating. I am glad that this is not some great twist. Not every drama needs a twisty ‘ta da’ reveal moment. It’s not Tales of the Unexpected.

Production design was acceptable due to high production values. The acting was as expected from the seasoned performers. I can only fault the director for aspects that felt a little 'Willowy'. Yea. The Jedi are about to be the bad guys.
It’s also tough when they’re trying to push a “message”
The coven are going to be all female no men “killed her TWO MOMS” and the show runner putting *her wife in the show (who is the character you admit falls flat)… it’s a shame.
Star Wars should just be Star Wars, not a show as a carrier of “the message” of inter sexual 3rd (4th?) wave feminism/LGBTQ+
Perhaps we’re too sensitive to it now because it’s everywhere, but it sours everything it’s inserted into.

Found the episodes very good and not too overdone with Star Wars gags. Though, "...I have a bad feeling about this..." was a nice touch. Showing the perception of Jedi arrogance was important. Jedi master Sol is a great character and is important that he sees beyond dogmatic views but he doesnt mention the sith. The apothcary was good and do like the prospect that he could be the master to Mae. And there was the comment by Master Vernestra that foreshadowed (but really echoed) Yoda's similar statement about being unable to control a situation or it would give ammunition to their political enemies so not so high republic

I like the show, and the story. I am glad Master Inara was offed swiftly and not dragged along just because she was "cool". I like that the Jedi really fight passively, by evading and blocking, careful to not harm their opponent either. What a difference to later times. I think that is what the Sith meant with killing the dream - by attacking the order, by putting them in danger, he lures them into becoming more aggressive and take a step towards their downfall. I also like that they didn't drag out the twin mystery, the story is not about that primarily, I think. But more about what happened all those years ago, and how both sides, the Jedi and Sith play into it. The businesslike tone among the Jedi is also very good - you see how different the order is, how they are not very spiritual but busy being influential. One also sees their way to judge, when they apprehend Osha - how the heck was Osha supposed to be on the ship and on a planet elsewhere? But you see there, that the jedi just wanted to sweep the whole thing under the rug. The Sith - or whatever he is - is interessting, his approach about the Jedi certainly promises to be intriguing. So, all in all I like the show.

Also it’s a show so we need to give them time to flesh the story out before being too critical of pacing and what not. The twin mystery if dragged out would have felt like a tired trope.
