Hello, I am happy owner of Winchester 1897 from Slovakia. This nice piece of history is very rare in Europe and I am very glad, that one piece is in my weapon collection. Now is full restored and this video was also very helpfull for me. Good job. Thank you. Jozef.
I inherited my dads model97. Made in 1936 I found out. Just got it out of storage and want to clean it up and hopefully use his model97. Just looked at your video and I was so impressed with your information to help me get this back into motion! Thankyou for a great video to help me out!!!
Your videos on the M1897 have saved me countless times. You make taking apart & reassembling the most complex shotgun in history look like legos. Thank you Edward!
Edward, thank you so much for this video. My 97 is a 1900 that i believe had never been taken down. She was a complete dirtiest rust filled gem. I would of never been able to do this without your video. The mainspring was broken but besides that this is an amazing part of history back together ande ready for another 120 years thanks to you!!
Thanks for your videos. I just came into possession of a 97 built in 1912. Needed a serious cleaning but it looks great and feels very solid now. Your vids made getting it apart and back together easy.
Thank you very much for the detailed disassembly/reassembly video. It was very helpful in the restoration of my own 97. My left-hand extractor pin was lodged in the bolt so I had to take it to a machine shop.
This video was a great help to me! Shooting Cowboy Action with a 97 that was made in 1899. Broke a mainspring and found your video and it did not make it look to imposing! Have it down to the mainspring. Waiting for the part and will use reassembly to guide me to get back together. Once again, Thanks. "Zeke"
I love the takedown 97's. You show up to a range with two halves of a gun that has seen over a hundred years of use and abuse, then pop the two halves together with five distinct clicks, much to the curiosity of onlookers. Those unfamiliar will gawk at the parts popping out with every cycling, thinking the gun be broken. It will impress your friends and confuse your frenemies.
Right now i am busy with adding a 1897 carrier in a 1893 shotgun and i have all i need, but i wonder does the slide release button come up a little bit once the carrier drops down? Or does it stay pushed in just as deep always no matter what position of the carrier?
+Ben Niessen The slide release button can be pressed, only when the carrier is in the down position. Just curious, why are you using a 1893 receiver, unless you only intend to shoot black powder.
Why i use a 93 receiver is cause by law we cant have fire weopones here that fire modern smokeless powder we can have permit free black powder designs, but i studyed the 93 and the 97 and i shot many many many 1.25 oz smokeless rounds in my 93 without one issue,i go use the barrel of a 97 that i allready shipped in and i go use a 97 carrier and a 97 bolt that i go get machined so it fits my 93. The receivers are strong enough on the 93 to handle smokeless powder in fact i think they are just as strong as a 97 receiver, and the receivers dont break on a 97,but the 97 is a more refined gun in anyway,so i go convert my 93 to as much 97 as possible cause i cant find a 97 receiver here.........
There is more steel used on the 1893,u shut see the 1893 as a primitive version of the 1897,the receiver isnt the weak spot,if u know how the bolt and carrier lock and then u know the force of the recoil pushes against the surface of the bolt, this makes the bolt wanne go back but the carrier is behind the bolt and the carriers pen is out of centre so the more recoil the harder the carrier wants to go up,but the surface of the boltsurface is a bit in the receiver and the bolt is in the groove on the side of the receiver. The form of the top of the receiver doesnt play a big role in the strenght. And beside that if u place a empty 93 and a empty 97 receiver on the scale the 1893 weigths more cause if u look at a 93 u see that the bolt is made thinner on top so it fits under the top of the receiver, the top of the1893 receiver is much much much thicker vs a 1897 receiver I am sure the receiver can handle smokeless powder with ease, cause i shot many rounds without any issue, but i admit the 97 is a much much much more refined version, thats why i wanne place as much from a 97 on my 93,and a carrier fits lovely so i can make a model E model 1897 carrier made in 1957 fit in a receiver made in 1893 without a issue the slide and grooves in the receiver and the dimension of the ejection port are 95% identical (on a 93 the side is a bit higher then on a 1897). Anyway i take a 1897 barrel ejection spring carrier bolt (bolt needs some machining) magazine tube and and and and i make a 97 in 1893 form, the only thing i cant do is get that small slot in the receiver where the fin/extractor rides trough.

Goffrey Sherrah I hope it all comes together well. It's a very robust shotgun.

Truly a sight to behold.
Well done! thanks for the help 👍
Happy to be of service.
You don’t show anything with the mag tube or pump assembly?? We’re doing good up until then
you really need to show how to set up the timing , on the adjustment screw beneath trigger housing.
If you mean the screw behind the trigger, it's to limit the trigger pull.
how to line up extension adjusting sleeve to barrel?
You mean setting the adjustment?
Yes , how do you assemble the barrel and adjustment to the extension , (our barrel is upside down, trying to fix)
@@lovesaves3238 Email me some pictures.
@@Mossy500A thanks for getting back to me I was able to fix it

+Ben Niessen The '93 receiver isn't strong enough for smokeless because it has less material, compared to the frame on the '97.
