  • "Now I can eat what I want, when I want."
Molly Hart, 19, had suffered with acid reflux since she was six months old and had been on medication to control it all her life.
Molly booked a consultation with Mr Rishi Singhal at BMI The Priory Hospital. After testing, it was confirmed that Molly was a suitable candidate for the LINX® procedure.
LINX® is a minimally invasive, laparoscopic procedure consisting of a small, flexible band of interlinked titanium beads with magnetic cores being placed around the oesophagus, just above the stomach. Once in place, the device will begin working immediately. The magnetic attraction between the beads keeps the Lower Oesophageal Sphincter (LOS) closed to prevent reflux, while opening during swallowing and to allow for the release of elevated gastric pressures, such as belching and vomiting.
*Please be aware that there are a range of treatment options available for acid reflux and BMI does not endorse or recommend any particular products or treatments.
    About Mr Rishi Singhal:
Mr Singhal is a Consultant Bariatric & Upper GI Surgeon, in the Upper GI Unit at Heart of England, NHS Foundation Trust, Birmingham.
After completing his CCT in General Surgery, Mr Singhal undertook a national fellowship in Bariatric Surgery at the Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton which is one of the premier bariatric centres in the UK. He has experience in benign Upper GI Surgery, Bariatric surgery and resectional surgery for oesophago-gastric cancers.

Had this my entire life. I had it when I was a baby. As I got to my teens I was really fit, I didn't have and reflux. But then I got to drinking age and smoking age, I was doing both. The acid put me in hospital a few times, I would struggle with really bad heartburn. All through my twenties trying to just live. Then at age 29 I had a hiatus hernia, that's when it all got bad. I had the hiatus hernia the same time as the chronic pain came on. I was constantly eating sweet chili, then taking anti-acids to put down the heartburn, I did this for weeks until the hiatus hernia formed. Through painkillers fighting the chronic pain, just trying to live, the painkillers caused Gastritis. Eventually that healed, but now I have gastritis. I have had gastritis for 7 months now. I not only have to deal with chronic pain, but also this acid crap. Doctor said surgery just brings problems, but the doctor doesn't understand how reflux destroys a person's life. I can't drink because I will get really bad heartburn, which keeps me from going out anywhere. I wish I seen a doctor about it when I was 19, it would have saved me so much pain and not missing out on so many things. There's also a link between GERD and Anxiety. Which is definitely what I have.

I as well have anxiety and have false shortness of breath due to a sensation I guess in the esophagus. Have you tried antacids ? Mine was brought on by a spirit like a alcoholic drink , I noticed bloating and felt I couldn’t breathe right and my belly wouldn’t expand when I took a deep breath . Also felt the lump in throat feeling as if front of neck was tight . The shortness of breath isn’t real it’s a sensation making you feel like it’s real cause of the nerve ending in the esophagus . Take antacids every day for a week or two and the first few days will feel relieved , also I take pro biotics gummies for the upset stomach feeling lead on by anxiety .

Look it up on youtube to get a better picture. Apparently that is the best fix for what we suffer from. But looking at the procedure, I'm extremely hesitant. I'm still torn and can't make my mind whether to go ahead with the surgery or not. I'm 28 and lead a healthy lifestyle and barely drink on occasion, so there is almost no room to improve when it comes to my lifestyle. God I wish I could have this done. I'm 56, been suffering with this as far back as 8 years old and its so severe that I wake up with puke in my mouth. I cannot, afford OTC antacids, and my medical coverage, Medicaid, wouldn't cover this by a long shot. I have puked so many times in my life more from this than any illness like flu. Sometimes I can't breathe because the acid gets stuck in my throat. And I've lost nearly all of my teeth because of the acids eating the enamel off of my teeth.😔

🤗 Tips for my fellow acid refluxers 🤗
    • Avoid the bad food & drink list for AR
    • Don’t sleep flat keep your chest and head elevated somehow
    • Keep an empty stomach 2 hrs before bed
    • Try to get off the medication unless necessary most OTC pills make it worse overtime and suppress the problem
    • Drink ACV occasionally
    • Try water fasting
    • Small meals - keep your stomach less full so that there is no “overflow”
    • If things don’t get better make an appointment for an endoscopy from your doctor.
Best of luck peeps we got this 👍🏻🤗

I have a Hiatal hernia. I had TIF surgery & the Nissen fundoplication on Nov 18th 2021. It is now 4 months since the surgery. Sometimes if I eat pieces that are to big I will throw up. Because of this I had another swallow test. Nothing seems to be blocked & the radiologist said he didnt see any reflux so I wonder why I still have constant burning in my throat. What has been your experience with how long it takes for this burning to go away. I wonder if something else could be the issue? Thanks.

    • @PlaceholderAlex
      @PlaceholderAlex 2 года назад

I had a nissen mid August 2021. if you're throwing up, that's probably a bad sign. I've had episodes of extreme stomach cramping and retching, but only small amounts of bile ever actually made it up. iirc, the daily reflux burn went away relatively quickly (I didn't notice it by the time I was back to a normal diet). the ability for vomit to make it through your stomach to your throat could mean the nissen was done loosely and acid can still travel upwards

@@PlaceholderAlex it has stopped. I think the food was getting stuck. I had another barium swallow test. it shows no reflux & no blockage. But I will say that my eating still isn’t normal. Food still gets stuck if I eat too fast and I think I will deal with that the rest of my life. One thing we should need to keep in mind is GERD is not curable even after surgery, Still u have to take over the counter medicines(PPI). Prevention is better than cure.
