    Thank you for making this video about you LINX journey. I’m just beginning the research for the possibility of taking that step myself. You make it sound so much less scary than I’d imagined. I also filled out the questions to join the LINX support group you mentioned in another video. Thank you for being here and sharing your insights. P.S. I wish I lived in the UK and to have something as good as the NHS. I’m in the US, will see how much of this surgery my insurance will cover. So glad you feel well. Hopefully I’ll be there soon as well. 😊

    Thanks for your very honest attention to details that are very appreciated! Even in progressive minded, Southern California, as of this writing, there are only a handful of surgeons trained in this procedure between Los Angeles and San Diego. I seem to be failing on Nexium, after failing on Prilosec and Aciphex previously, over the years. And, now all the studies negative toward long term treatment with Proton Inhibitors! The only thing you didn’t cover is the subject of MRI’s with Linx, which I’ve read they have made great advances on since it's introduction. Please advise. With the greatest appreciation,
    Dan

    Congrats on the surgery and wish you all the best. I have GERD AND now developed LPR. Keep in mind, I don't take any medicine or PPI. In your presentation, you mentioned you still have a little LPR. Did the symptoms ever go away? Did the doctor discuss with you in the long term having magnets in your body need to be adjusted later? You made this video 3 years ago, so hopefully your back to normal?

    Hi. Great guide. Thank you. I had my Linx surgery in October 2023. It was OK for the first 7 days. On day seven I had a more serious dysphagia (sharp pain in the chest etc) and since then I have been having reflux or so it feels. The surgeon is saying that it was just a coincidence with the end of the Linx honeymoon period. I doubt it to be honest. I am 3 months out now, but it is not great. I have still got pain in the LES area, especially 2-3 h after eating (when acid in the stomach drops to its lowest level) or when I had a coffee, chocolate, sugar etc. I also have reflux if I squeeze my tummy when full, that is if driving or sitting on the sofa (those positions where your stomach gets squeezed). I am a bit disappointed. Have you had any of my symptoms during the first 3 months? Kind regards.

      @@HobbyZobby My case was a bit more complicated than some probably. I have a condition called EOE which is basically an allergic reaction in the esophagus. Due to persistent pain from what I think were many different sources I thought this Linx might work for me. I pretty much had to figure this out on my own and test the theory on myself. My reflux was probably bile reflux which it certainly has helped with. My other pain symptoms still exist to varying degrees and I now wonder how much of the original pain was really helped. This has made it difficult for me to drink, especially at the start, and I have persistent gassiness. I am considering having it removed,

    I went through all the tests to qualify. I passed the swallow test but the reflux test was ‘inconclusive’. I do have Barrett’s and a hiatal hernia so there is no question I have reflux. Met with the surgeon and he backed out citing the inconclusive results. He then put me on another antacid pill. I reacted to PPIs and am very concerned about acid blocking. Not sure what to do now.

    I have severe GERD with a small hernia in my mid 20s. I'm definitely bringing up this procedure. A full Nissen fundoplication honestly scares me, people not being able to eat, burp as needed, nor vomit as the body needs to.
    I'm on pantoprazole 40mg twice a day as well as an H2 blocker max dose twice a day. My primary doctor says I'm maxed out and I've developed silent reflux, even though occasionally I can feel just a tinge of reflux.
    How are you feeling a year out?

      Get Nissen fundoplication. Linx doesn't work after a year. Nissen is not scary at all. I had a Friday outpatient Nissen surgery, was walking around on Saturday for hours, was off pain meds by Monday, eating lasagna by Thursday (6 days after surgery).
      It's true that you cannot burp. But it's not that big of a deal. You can burp with Linx, but that's because it doesn't do anything. You can burp, but you still get reflux. Linx is a failed experiment. Nissen is almost the exact same recovery.

    Why don't they have an implant that just sends an electrical current to keep the muscle around the lower esophageal sphincter closed?
    This seems overly invasive.

    • @AngusTatchell
      @AngusTatchell 2 месяца назад

      From what I understand, if you have a hiatal hernia then a lot of the muscles (the crura) responsible have actually stretched, leading to the hiatus widening (and herniation). My guess is this means even when these muscles tense it cannot actually put enough pressure on the LES to help it close (as it should normally do) - so I would think an electro-stimulation device alone may not be capable of resolving the issue. The hernia repair process requires stitching the stretched crura together to snuggly fit around the esophagus again - and I can't imagine any way to resolve the hernia without performing this step.
      Additionally, I would think an electronic device comes with more points of failure than a mechanical one, so it may be a better choice for a long term solution with fewer complications.
      If you look at the Linx surgery videos, it does look less invasive than the fundoplication alternatives - given that the stomach doesn't need to be wrapped around the esophagus to support the LES (instead of the linx). Linx seems to be quite a minimally invasive option for supporting the LES alongside a hiatal hernia repair. Maybe slightly more invasive than the TIF procedure given this is performed without any incisions (excluding the staples).

      @@lilacsheer Hi! Thank you for getting back to me. That's great to hear! Did you have esophageal surgery as well? I had a herniated esophagus repair as well as the linx implant. He used a pig insert to support the repair while it heals. I'm concerned with the air pressure from singing rupturing that repair. • @craigsingletonart
      @craigsingletonart 3 года назад

      @@lilacsheer Thanks Lilac. The pig skin was inserted to hold/ support the hernia repair while it heals. On backlofen and tramadol for pain. The spasms feel like a heart attack. Pain radiates from middle esophagus area, out. Can't speak or barely breathe when spasms occur, always triggered by eating, worsened by cold food. Doc says pain is not uncommon.

    • @craigsingletonart
      @craigsingletonart 3 года назад

      Doc thinks surgery went very well, and hopeful the spasms will fade as healing progresses. He recommended no singing for three more weeks. But says too go lightly, not go crazy, Whitney Houston, if I must sing. I have faith I get through this. Hoping to complete new song cuttently scheduled for July 4th release date. So far, singing with minimal air pressure seems to be without issue. Will try a light vocal session early next week, see how it feels. Thanks again. You take care.
