The power of a manicure really helps make me feel polished and professional. I love OPI's Put It In Neutral because it's pretty and not so obvious when it starts to chip.
Unprofessional World is so much the world I live in and this video just made me happy because I love being dressep up at work (since I don´t go out much besides that! LOL) Thank you for encoraging us to step things up at work :)
I'm digging how this video is not just about fashion..it's also a pep-talk! I need this because Lauren, lemme tell ya I'm surrounded by a sea of the frumpy-dumpty colleagues/friends/family. You know what? When I see someone dressed well I assume they're doing a better job. There's an assumption that if they have their sh*t together on the surface they must have their life together and that's a nice assumption! I want people to assume that about me. Coworkers compliment my work clothes (but I'm always looking to up my game with your tips) My casual combo is cardigans/ scarves/ a long necklace (altogether) makes people assume I've tried harder in a casual setting (even though it's put together quickly). Almost always black pants and a cute/funky flat shoe. Another winning casual work combo for me is a dress that it slightly more snug at the chest (knee length) with cardigan and a boot. It can also have that same scarf/long necklace combo. Lots of people compliment this look and inquire about my style. I get most of the dresses from target online (bigger selection).
Oh my god this is why I love your videos, you always tell the truth. At my school I'm known for dressing my best and I can't tell you how many girls tried to step up their game too after seeing me, not to be cocky LOL.
I'm a teacher and would love to play this video for staff development. We had administration lecture the teachers that they couldn't wear FLIP FLOPS to school! Really, why would you wear flip flops to teach in? Waaay too casual. I stand out in my pumps/ cute flats and dresses or skirts, but I get so much encouragement from my parents and students about looking "nice!" that I wish I could share that love with my co-teachers without hurting their feelings. Ya' know?
Hi Lauren , thank you for this video. I work as a teacher and a lot of my female coworkers dress very casually . I discovered thanks to your videos that i like a modern romantic style of dressing. I like to dress up for work but in the past I did try to blend in with the rest. Now I feel more confident and I dress up again to go to work . Your video today gave me again a strong confirmation to keep doing this and I want to thank you for that . Sometimes I still feel like I stick out like a sore thumb, but in the future i will keep your words in mind and I will hold my head up high, because it is very true: When I feel good about the way I look , I am happier and that also reflects in my way of teaching. Thank you! Greetings from Belgium , Sofie
I love this video! This was my struggle for years and then I decided to put together a "uniform" so that I could get out of that old tee, jeans and ugly flats habit. Now I almost always wear a blazer, a blouse, jeans and pointed flats (or heels if I am feeling extra happy lol). It makes such a huge difference!!
My current client works for a notorious "dress-down" company. Her office is located on the top floors of a high-rise building with some of the most prestigious fashion houses located in the lower floors as an open air mall. Elevators to her office are located with the same elevators for the mall. I have tried to "sell" her this idea that you put forth in your video but she is one of those who fear her peers distain for 'dressing up" because they actually bully you for doing so. We're talking people in PJ's and slippers bullying someone for wearing a pair of heals! This is straight from my clients mouth! She usually wears jeans, flats, and a boho top but now that she is beyond her 30's feels that she needs to dress more age-appropriate (yes, I've seen your fabulous videos on that subject too!). Thank you for confirming my decision to take her in a more modern direction. Simple clean lines - a color block or solid blouse - a blazer - pointed flats - a nice bag! She loves it! Professional but not over dressed for her work environment. She always felt self-conscience walking through that high-end mall so frumpy - now she can feel comfortable going to work and being at work! I love your videos Lauren and the wide range of fashion topics. You keep me at the top of my game and well informed on nuances of styling. Keep it up and all the best in your efforts!
I would say that having wardrobe staples will help out TREMENDOUSLY & it will make it a lot less difficult in deciding how to maintain a professional look! 😊
I have come to appreciate elevated style so much, and notice how downhill fashion has gone. On the positive side, it gives you even more of an edge to dress well because most people don't lol. I used to be the same way, I called anything that wasn't jeans and a tee shirt or yoga pants and a hoodie "dressed up". I didn't put an ounce of thought into what I wore, and I kind of feel like I now have to make up for lost time by dressing really well. Once I started learning about all the better options out there, it became an absolute passion. You just can't wear the same clothes to a professional environment that you wear to sit around the house eating Doritos. You can't wear the same clothes out to dinner that you wear to the gym. It doesn't make any sense, and makes you look like you completely lack self-awareness.
Thank you Lauren, I just found this video and it encourages me to step up my game at work. It's been hard because I fall into the trap of "pajama wear" - just showing up and living with the concept of "nobody cares so why should I?" People at my work wear nerd/gamer tshirts, flip flops and cargo shorts, etc. The girls don't dress up either, mostly jeans and sneakers. It's depressing, actually. I'll work on it though, with your encouraging words in my head. Gracias!!
Video was really too good, I really love it . Well I m a second year Engineering student and I want to learn how to dress for my campus interview and meetings or any program of my college
Where are you from? I'm from California and I live in Georgia, and I tend to be more dressed up than most because I like fashion. I like being put together. I grew up on a tight budget living with a single mom, getting dressed is a form of personal expression and creativity. I have to wear a uniform Monday through Friday to work as a nurse, so when I get to wear real clothes, I get too excited. I have apologized for how I dressed, but NOT anymore. MJ
I agree with all that you said it's just I don't have money like that yet. Jeans and a tshirt is the best I can do while still having quality clothes. I'm not about to go to Zara or Uniclo to pick up crap pieces just to say "hey I'm elevated, unique and different but I don't have money"
It's small things you can do, like going to second hand shops, tj maxx, Ross, Burlington, etc. It's all in how you carry yourself as well. The way we dress is the way we view ourselves :) I hope these tips helped.
+Diedra Walker yeah you're right too. I've just now started to get out of my high school wardrobe and everything I've bought so far is brand new. I know that thrifting will help a lot especially in getting into your distinct look so I will start. I'm just waiting to get my hair done cuz it's going to be such a major change; i need clear direction.
Hi Lauren! I love this video. I work for a company where you can wear pajamas or shorts if you want to. I needed this pick me up video. I have all these beautiful clothes in my closet and I need to get my boss on and stop wearing these jeans and sneakers to work! Thanks! Brandi
Just last night, someone told me to dress comfortably. I was like... I am comfortable! I live in a small town in the south and people typically have the basic white girl look. Jeans, t-shirt, and either converse, keds, Toms, and vans.
My default is to be slightly overdressed for everything. It's must better than being underdressed. I never want to be the most casual person in the room.
Love your video. People do get intimidated by people that dress well. But guess what! They actually really respect you and try to step up their game. I grew up outside the US and I always wear a blazer to work and look sharp. That is just the culture. There are work clothes and there are play clothes. So I almost fell down the stairs the other day when I saw someone come to work with shorts and crocs! Can you believe that??? When you look sharp, people automatically assume that you know what the hell you are talking about. You don't need a lot of money to look sharp. Go to Marshalls or TJ Maxx.
Thanks for telling the raw truth. I was always told to dress for the next job you want. Great advice unless your bosses are also slobs! So watch those several levels up. They may dress casually but look closely. I'll bet it's a more polished casual look. One video along this line I'd like to see is one advising women not to wear date outfits to work. You may look lovely and alluring but that's not suitable for work.
I agree - there is nothing that bothers me more than to see an "executive" in jeans. Now, they are nice jeans and a button-up with belt and dress shoes, but jeans?? Nope! That's just the men. Don't even get me started with the women! I am tired of hearing, but I want to be comfortable. Well, you want to be confident and put-together also don't you?

Same there
Wow, I wish I go give you a raise on your salary. You are a great teacher and advisor, especially to this new generation.
:) :) Thank you so much :) :)

How are you doing now?

Good tips! Dressing better definitely helps with getting ahead.
Such an amazing video.. I'm binge watching your videos since yesterday when i came across ur channel... Love your work..
Thank you for saying what needed to be said because it is casual Friday...not schlumpy Friday. :)
Thank you for your amazing videos.
I always feel like a boss when I wear heels, especially pumps!!! ☺️🙌

Heck yeah! Great tip.
Where can we get blazers without the shoulder pads and the masculine cut?. I already have broad shoulders so I don't want to accentuate the shoulders
Great video Lauren and very well said! Would you consider do a video/series for colours that suit different skin tones? x
Oooh that's a good idea!

Get your boss on, girl!
Why is this me?? LOL! I am currently clearing out my closet to dress the way I like not how everybody else is!

Lol seems like all parents all around the world say that ))))
she said some things

*oh yeah..the knee-length dress with knee length boots (or higher) and leggings underneath so I don't look like a street-walker.
