Sorry to be late, but I'll tell you how I studied for history. When I was in high school, I didn't take that many notes from the textbook.
During class, I'd listen carefully to the teacher explanation of the matter and eventually take some notes from what was said. I usually also intervene in class to start a discussion.
When home, I'd read the whole chapter as if it were a novel. I just imagined everything in my head like if it were a movie. Then, I'd highlight the most relevant parts and write a little summary of what I remember based on the context.
After I was finished, I'd read everything again and added things from the web that it might be interesting to expand upon.
I love this method because it made me enjoy history even more. It's been two years since I graduated high school, but I still remember almost everything from my European history and philosophy classes. 😄
but if you cant concentrate on listening what the teacher is saying?
My teacher doesn't even give lectures. :(
I didn’t study history by the time I got to high school and definitely not in college. Most of this stuff we have been learning since elementary school. It just get more in depth as we go along in school. The main points of history don’t change. So if you know the basics of each event, then you good.
Wow! I just took the notes that were given, and looked at them 5 minutes before the test. I usually got ‘As’ in history. May be an occasional high ‘B’.
@@hillarystone7506 so you noted only the basic things right and not the whole story? I need help yo make notes..😪
Currently taking APUSH! I took AP Euro last year and here's my advice:
1. Enjoy it! Euro is by far my favorite AP history and it is so interesting!
2. Don' bother memorizing specific battles- they won't show up on the AP exam
3. Something worth memorizing is what happens during every 50 years (so 1400-1450, 1450-1500, etc). You still get an idea on what happened when but you won't have to memorize dates.
4. Knowing the following trends will be helpful: women, religion, and art
5. Chances are, you are going to get on the free response and go "what??????" Stay calm, think about the context of the question (time period, author, etc), and make up an answer. I'm not going to lie, I made up a LOT of stuff on the AP exam.
6. I don't know about your class, but for me, it helped to make flashcards (or just look up ones on Quizlet) to help get the specifics down for chapter tests. I wouldn't stress too much about memorizing all of them for the AP exam, though. Just one flip thru should be enough
7. GET A PREP BOOK! I cannot emphasize how helpful it is to have one of these
Headphonetiger which prep book do you recommend?
I recommend the Crash Course one
www.amazon.com/European-History-Course-Advanced-Placement/dp/0738612014/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1513648510&sr=8-2&keywords=ap+euro+crash+course
Headphonetiger do you think taking ap world history/Euro history would be too difficult? I'm currently in AP human for freshman year and we definitely never do DBQ's only FRQ's.
Priscilla An It really depends on your teacher. I personally didn't find it hard at all but every class is different so ask upperclassmen. DBQs are basically easier FRQs since the information is given to you. Although you do have to provide at least one piece of outside evidence and do a synthesis type thing (I don't know what it's called now), together they are only worth 2 points and they aren't difficult because you already do those two things in other FRQs
Im taking APUSH this year. Since u have taken it, do u have any tips? Thanks!
Color code
Purple: Essencial question
Blue: Info that answer the essencial question
Yellow: vocabulary that’s bold/highlighted in the book
Pink: questions that you have
Green: information that correspond to the ap course framework
Thank you sm
Ty😁
I don't get the green code
Jennifer Alvarez I use it as “important info that doesn’t fit into the others categories”
Essential*
Good luck with AP Euro! I took AP Euro last year and passed with a 5, and one thing I would REALLY recommend is that you really don't have to know every detail about something. For me, I wish I really understood the CAUSE and EFFECT. Why somethin happened and what led up to it? What was the effect, what was created because of this event?
I would REALLY recommend you to binge through Tom Richey because he was one of my favorite AP Euro teachers on youtube for sure.
Furthermore, KNOW KNOW KNOW your contextualization. I cannot stress this enough because the AP test always loves to test your context (which would go back to the cause and effect). And if you are writing a DBQ or LEQ, make sure you HIPP EVERY DOCUMENT so you are for sure to get the points!
That's all I have, but I hope you see this and take some of the advice!!
Wish my insane history teacher would read this and stop testing us on footnotes and nitpicky details!
I wish I could copy the main idea. My teacher tests me on every little detail in the textbook :/
I'm taking IB HL history :)) my biggest tip would be to make timelines!! Also I like to make one sheet summaries of each section of the textbook (with conclusions at the bottom to answer the question) 😊💜
Imaginfinity same, I am taking IB HL right now
im taking HL history next year and this was super helpful! thanks!
I´m taking IB HL history as well and I´m struggling because I honestly didn´t like history before and my brain just doesn´t work well with remembering the years rippp, could you make a video of how you study for history?? or any tips on making mindmaps?
SAMEEE!!!!!
so am i, i'm in IB2 now aahhh
I make timelines but they have three columns- why?, what?, and results. This helps as so many dates and events link to each other and have a domino effect!!
I'm doing A-level history (UK) and I'm going on to do a degree in history
Not taking a history course, but I still love watching your videos. I took APUSH last year and one of my biggest tips for you would be to make a flashcard or several that condenses down the events in a specific time period. Good luck on your finals!
who else is currently suffering in APUSH🙋🏻♀️
I'm suffering in AP World I'm afraid
Nic Name ap world is hell, good luck (self studied last year and took a 5 😊)
yup. yup.
A what
I’m suffering in AP Euro
History is my favorite subject. (Not being a show-off) I was called a History know-it-all for a whole school year. I love your channel that I help write and contribute to the Subtitles when I have free time!
This makes me so happy.
omg omg omg thank you so much, plus, i had to study for this big history exam and i haven't started because of the amount of pages
this helped me a lot thank you once again
Adelina D ugh same... 😉
ooooh i found an army here...
Adelina D AARMMMMYYYYY
I am currently studying History in high school and I usually take notes in class when the teacher is teaching
Those notes are usually kinda messy so I spend a while rearranging and revising those notes. Our history textbooks have a LOT of information, so I usually use sticky notes and annotate the textbook (sometimes with extra information from the net) and just generally engage with the text. Trying to picture what happened, like a movie really helps. One of the best things about history is that if done right it’s like reading a beautiful story, which is also why it’s one of my favourite subjects
Wow I have a history test tomorrow. I was looking for something like this. And here it is.
Hope you did well!
Your notes are so nice! And I've been thinking of buying those highlighters so it's great to know you like them!
I took AP Euro last year and made a 4 on the exam, but you seem to be doing just fine! It's a good idea to be constantly reviewing past notes so the information stays clear and fresh! Good luck!
im taking history next year!! i'm on a binge of your old videos haha, love from new zealand :)
I love how much effort you put into your videos and this channel has helped me try to care about school and my grades and gives me helpful information
That was one thick History book😶😶
Lucy Dragneel you mean,,,
*t h i c c*
Your notes are always so pretty!!
I am currently taking IB History of the Americas. It’s one of my favorite classes :) For anyone taking the class, I would recommend to review your notes as often as possible, and to know not only the information, but also how to apply it in relation to big essential questions.
Are IB history and IB History of the Americas different classes? My school only offers IB History
Clueless Kidd I’m actually not sure. Juniors take IB HOA at my school and during senior year those who would like to choose history as an SL move on to IB Geography while those who want to take history as an HL move on to IB 20th century world topics.
Your notes are so beautiful,so elegant, just looking like a WOW!!😆
Wow your handwriting and calligraphy is beautiful!! Also I just finished a history course in college during fall semester!
I’m using all of your studying and note taking tips this school year and I’m so excited
For anyone else struggling like me, try practicing your notes on a white board or scrap paper and then you decide if they're good or not. This helps for me since it helps me get into the note taking mindset of summarizing with short, concise bulletpoints
I am actually just watching this bcs your videos are calming and I love seeing u writing notes 😂💗
I'm not taking any history classes, but I enjoy watching any of your vidoes. They are so aesthetic and calming
Holy crap I'm taking AP Euro this year and it's really taking a toll on me with all of the work! This video looks so helpful and I'll definitely be using it for future notes in my textbook to get more efficient! Thank you SOO much for making this video!!!!
I'm also taking ap euro this year! honestly it's a really fun class and I enjoy it so much! good luck on your final!!
Imma sophomore in WHAP rn and my teacher actually makes graphic organizers for us to use which is awesome. But if I didn’t have that available I would definitely use this! This is sooo helpful omg!
I just graduated this year and I didn’t do a lot of note taking back then but I’m still here watching your video😂 It’s so satisfying😂😍😍
Great video as always!!! This is super helpful for my APUSH class💗❤️. Happy holidays Jasmine🎄❄️
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS SO MUCH!!❤️
I started advanced u.s history this year, and it was my hardest subject. I am still figuring out the best way to take notes, so this is such a helpful video!
Low key wish there was a love button cuz this is actually so useful. It's a great organization strategy and truly is helpful. Love it.
I’am so thankful for this 💛💛
I love your channel so much, and good luck!
Good luck on your test😊❤️ the video is really nice and the notes are so pretty 😘
my goodness she makes me feel sooo unproductive ..... but also motivates me to work - love love love u Jasmine
Very usefull vids!!!
I'm studying for history teacher, second year now. And the books are a very heavy read. These vids really help me to learn! Thanks!
I’m taking honers American studies. I love that the teacher makes us Wright our own notes.
I think the real reason why I fell in love with stationery was your channel
Great video! Love your work ❤
Ahh thank you! This has inspired me to take notes, and how to properly take them!
I'm taking Microeconomics at my college next semester and am currently trying to study ahead for it during break because I know my other classes will be tough. This notetaking method will be super helpful for me to make notes to reflect back on later!
I took AP Euro last year and passed the exam w/ a 4 and I was so shook tbh. But I’m pretty sure you’re already doing my main tip which is to basically just do your reading. Like ALWAYS. Doing your reading and being able to know what your teacher lectures about in class is so important bc it helps you process everything so much better once you’ve read and you hear it all over again the next day in class. Lol but yes the reading is the most important part as my teacher last year (he was pretty great) always emphasized to us
History is my all time favourite subject. And your note taking technique helped me a lot.......
Thank you for your videos, you inspire me so much 💖💖💖💖💖💖
Very beautiful notes 😍😍
I really love your videos. You are my favorite studyblr by far. I watch your videos at least three times. It's honestly just so calming. I'm hoping you'll do one of those '168 hours in my life' videos again.🙂
This is a life-changing video that is helping me a better student in my AP EURO class as a Sophmore. Thanks so much.
omg i love those kirarich highlighters! i just picked them up the other day :-)
This video is really helpful. Thank you!
Hey jasmine great video, I love your videos even though I'm not in high school or college yet, but my older sister watches you too and would really need your method from what I've seen.
Actually glad I procrastinated on my history notes this time bc this was so helpful!
your calligraphy is BEYOOTIFUL hecc!!!!!! also i use that site sometimes deff recommend as well! ly jasmine
I love you u r so inspiring and encouraging you continue to help me get organized so thank you
this'll be v helpful now that i'm going into a pre-uni academy!! thanks jas💕
i’m taking ap world history! & these videos really inspire me to put effort into my notes bc currently they’re like really ugly lol so thank u!
Thank you for the video! I'm currently doing my As level(British system) course for history and this really helped as the content is excessive
Btw good luck with your finals I hope they go well!
I'm actually in AP World, my first AP history class. Notes are an integral part of the class and to say this video helped is an understatement 💕💕 thank you!!!
I finished our last topic for the quarter, American Revolution and French Revolution. It was really fun since we talked about some stuff related to Hamilton. I took my quarter test on history just yesterday :D Love your notes always and the video inspired me 💕
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO MORE OF THESE VIDEOS!!!!
I take Us History right now and also please do some for chemistry if you haven’t already
I am currently taking texas history (because I live in Texas) and I love it!! It is so interesting and fun to learn about. Next year I am taking PAPUSH (pre-ap us history).
Thank you for your video. It was very helpful.
I'm taking AP U.S History right now. I took AP Euro two years ago as a freshman. Thank you for showing us how your take history notes! My finals are this week and I still gotta study for APush. Hopefully I'll do good :)
I love you smmm ugh ❤️
good luck on your exams / finals. love from Sweden 💛
I’m starting my second semester Friday and I have Honors/Dual Enrollment World History. I never thought to take my notes like this, it’s so much more organized than how I usually do it.
Im taking WHAP this year and the thing that helps me most is to write down a topic sentence for each paragraph and bullet point basic things that relate to the topic or very specific things like places and dates
I took AP Euro, and it was honestly my favorite class ever!
I survived Euro by watching a lot of videos, to be specific TOM RICHEY. He is an AP Euro and APUSH God! His videos are always so entertaining to watch and are full of amazing explanations, so you should definitely hit them up! Good luck on your finals!
yes!! Tome Richey is very thourough and helps contexualize info i totally recommend!
i'm taking world history this year! btw ur notes are so pretty :)))
Handwriting is so pretty! 😍😍
I'm not taking any history courses, but I still watched the whole video because all of Jasmine's videos are so interesting to watch!
Thank you so much... I needed this!
I’m not even in history right now, I just love your videos so much haha
So helpful! Thank you so much!
I'm taking AP Euro you happen to have the same textbook as me lol i love your style of notes so much. This video helped so much thank you !
I know that you've heard this many times but lemme just you, your handwriting is super gorgeous😍😍😍 Loved the video❤🖒
I'm currently in college taking a course on American History before 1877 (online). I love learning history but am having a hard time trying to condense my notes when there is so much information and also trying to figure out what points are the most important. I haven't had my first quiz yet or anything to gain better insight on what to really focus on. Thanks for this helpful video!
Hi! I took AP Euro last year (also as a sophomore) and I wish I would've taken notes like you did! I didn't have a good experience with the class because our teacher never taught us anything (crazy I know), and all we did was answer 5 questions from the text book daily (it was almost optional to read because you could easily find the answer in the text). Keep taking those amazing notes, practice your timed writing and DBQ's (we also didn't practice those at all :/) and you'll do amazing on the AP test!!
Thank you very much, I am taking world history next year and I have American history this year. This will be so helpful for online school!
i took AP euro back in 2015 and passed with a 4. honestly the best advice i can give is to write down practically everything your instructor says, then re write those notes later on after class, and even a while after you went over the material the first time. im doing the same thing for my US history class in college. also dont focus on the dates too much (although dates are good to know when it comes to remembering the context of the time) because its rare the exam will ask you anything specific to a certain year over a certain event.
good luck!🌟
I am taking AP World History and it's so stressful haha. These videos help me feel inspired and ready for homework. :)
I just answer 5 questions:
- background info (who, where, and when)
- the causes of the incident
- the incident
- the effects of the incident
- the purpose of the incident
It may be easier to remember it as:
- who (background info)
- where (background info)
- when (background info)
- how did it happen (the causes of the incident)
- what happened (the incident)
- what were the effects (the effects of the incident)
- why did it happen (the purpose of the incident)
This is more of an outline for events, but if you are taking notes on a specific person or place, the “incident” is what they did or what happened there. If you are taking about other concepts, the “incident” is basically what the concept is.
I took A.P. European History during my high school freshman year. I didn't take any notes, and we barely used our book since our teacher used PowerPoint to present the chapters and lessons to us. She kinda used the same techniques you use, except she didn't highlight anything. She would, however, make the words bold if it was a key concept or something to be remember for a test or for future reference. This video was really helpful since I am taking A.P. U.S. History now, and I needed a few new ways to take notes specifically for this class.
Omg this video is sooo helpful. thxs
Watching this while writing my AP world history notes... second semester and I FINALLY started taking neat notes lol
I have to do the cornell notes format too bc I am in AVID
yasmen ali thats sucks. I was in avid last year but i moved schools and chose not to be in avid again.
K and R Castillo I know it's really hard
I’m lucky I’m not in AVID. I’m not quite fond of the Cornell format
It becomes extremely helpful in college I highly suggest using it.
ugh me too
wow,it is soo helpful video thank uuu very very much
omg i can't emphasize this enough but this video is a *godsend*
THANK YOU! I am a channel to help people with study by making playlists and you are by far one of my favourite creators to save videos from
Thnkyouuuuuu!!!! I love this vid ❤
yes yes yes!!! Been needing this, I'm taking history and in our course (i'm from the uk) we do; american west, elizabethan england, the weimar republic and medicine xxx
I’m doing the same but instead of The American West, we’re doing Conflict & Tension with Hitler
Grayce Bee that's the weimar republic for us!! x
Natasha Rodgers that’s super cool - I’ve always been really interested in the Weimar Republic, but we don’t have any courses that discuss it in detail.
here in thuringia, germany we do: French Revolution, Industrialization, Rise of America, Soviet Union and Communism, 1st World War, Weimar Republic, 2nd World War, Cold War and the European Union
it's compareable to an AP Course - it's called eA
Sounds good. Is it interesting? Which topic is your favourite?
I'm taking AP European and AP World History next school year for 11th grade. I'm going to Use "Crash Course" and maybe a textbook over the summer so I'm a little head hopefully. I love all your videos! Wish me luck
In love with your notes 😂❤ Saludos desde Colombia 💛💙❤
I'm new, and I really like your handwriting! Also tomorow I have an oral history exam, so this will help (if profesor has time for me)! Thanks!!!
lol this is so helpful i was just wondering this today
I tried this and this made it easier to study also
