- In 1991 I idly compiled a montage of some of the emotional reunions from Cilla Black's 1991 series of Surprise! Surprise! (LWT). Here is my choppily-edited compilation from the original home-recorded video.
This was just magic..The good old days when the world was a much better place.
I totally agree with you.
So true.
No internet/phone where everyone focused on their own lives!
Statically that is incorrect. Generally there is less poverty and less war now. But we hear about it, we've lived rather comfortably, so we think its worse
Yes, the world was a much better place, except, everyone on TV was a convicted sex offender.
The story about the chap who’s daughters were just taken to America without his knowledge, was just shocking. The pain of that moment was still written on the poor man’s face 17 years on. Great television.
I don't know the circumstances but it sounds like a real selfish, scummy thing for the mother to do.
We need more shows like this today
Surprise surprise, Bullseye, The Price is Right, Blind Date, loved all they 80s programs when I was young❤
It's programme not program
The a team take ys pick supergran dusty bin
So true
@@fatsdomu have way to much time on your hands clearly..
@@MylotheMask sorry about that
LWT lets not forget it!!! greatest era of weekend television in British history.
I couldn't agree more.
Better than we utter shite we have now
Nice. My favourite was the man meeting his two daughters and 5 grandchildren.
Awesome seeing a grown man cry with such delight
Thank you so much David, for going to the trouble of putting this together for our enjoyment. I don't care what the quality is like, it still brought "Dust in my Eyes" and some sort of "Constriction" in my throat. Thank you again. Gareth
I couldn't get past the first three minutes of this without shedding a tear...
me too!
Exactly how I felt
loved this programme but can't believe it is over 27 years ago, time flies, missing Cilla off the telly though :(
Met her when i worked at sotheby's London. Wonderful women R I P
33 years now... wonderful stuff
A very meaningful show and has a message to deliver and it brings families together
It was a load of old shit.
Just when I thought I couldn't cry any more..... there I went again. A great compilation

Mm m on
Cilla is so so sadly missed. Life without Cilla as never been the same.
I've watched thousands and thousands of hours of TV over my 70 plus years but never heard "... wished you'd put your teeth in now" before. What a line, Cilla.
That made me laugh so much. They seemed such a lovely family too
I think Frank Berry is my favourite one here. He seems like a really lovely person and what had happened to him was unfair and wrong. His newfounded family seem lovely too.
I also, liked Jan and Pat meeting their brothers - poor Pat looked mortified!
I think she knew they were only yards away
I love the way Cilla is on this 1991 surprise surprise and brings back the time when I which. It on the television. And it also reminds me of my mum and dad. Carol Wilson
What a really nice post, hope you're doing well Carol?
I used to watch this in the 80's or 90's on Saturday night eating ice-cream that I got from the ice cream man who still delivers till this day.
Poor Pat at the end was still traumatised by their childhood ...bless
Thanks a million David for this wonderful montage.
God some of Cilla’s outfits. The 90s were a special time weren’t they? 😂
Those pins she shows!!!
Fantastic upload, thanks for putting together. Remember this was before the internet or cheap international flights, so reunions like this were very rare.
Our Cilla was certainly the Queen of the TV shows. Sunday night you knew there was going to be tears with reunions. And the song written by Kate Robins , perfect
Heartbreaking stories really. A brother in Greece you hadn’t seen in 30 years, you’d just FaceTime him every other day now. Kids who disappeared to America 16 years ago & you hadn’t seen or heard from them since.
I used to love this program on a Sunday night! I knew I could go to the pub, knowing I hadn't missed anything decent on the telly when this was on.
These stories are very heartwarming & yet so tragic with families ripped apart That poor sister Pat was in complete shock at 34.03. Imagine 30 plus years of longing to see your brothers 😢
This program always brought tears to my eyes the reunions
If I'm ever feeling very down and the black hole in my heart is hurting... I watch videoes of kids who surprise their step dads (usually) with adoption papers for birthday presents or soldiers who come back and surprise their kids or families.
There is one particular video of a dog who is reunited with his owner and its unbelievably beautiful...
There's some videos of even like fully grown lions and all just getting so excited to see people who reared them.
Check out one video Rachael where there is a man who finds a gorilla who he reared and let go into the wild...its years later and the crew are very nervous... I mean the gorilla can just pull you apart like warm bread... But he comes down and they reunite and he brings his babies and families down to show him...
Needs to be more love in the world
Lots of ☀ ✌️ 🥂 from 🇮🇪
All these old programs we're the best. Watching surprise surprise I cried every time.
That was lovely, really enjoyed watching, thank you for splicing and dicing. x
Always shed a tear watching these X
I just loved to watch this program when Cilla Black did it. Carol WilsonX
Cilla was a false woman
@@penelopepitstop197 Have some respect. Cilla isn't here to defend herself against people like you.
Yes, I agree Carol. Can't stand Holly Willoughby.
Easy to forget what a legend Cilla was. Perfect rapport with the public..made it look easy..RIP Cilla
She really does her background homework!!! Amazing !!
The researchers do all that.
God I love Frank. Miss Cilla - cannot stop crying but love love it.
OMG that was a perfect transition at 22:13, at the end of the song.
"That's all we got time for this week, but we will be back next week with DAVE!"
That was perfect!!
Thanks - completely random edit! It even rhymes - "...back next week with DAVE! - Give us a wave!"
Mister E
This was brilliant. Must have cried 5 or 6 times. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Seeing Cilla reminds me of watching tv with my mum and auntie Anne as a kid.... good memories rip cilla darling
everytime I see Cilla Black I realize that what you see is what you get - a very nice person !
she's notorious for having an on screen persona and being a total witch off it, theres whole forums based on how she has treated people off screen, google it.
She's a damn good actress because if you read things like the flight attendants blog, you will find out she's not all she seems.
I'd get pissed off with being "on screen" 24/7 also.
Peter Byrd Her choice!
@@TheAnn2shoes you do get to see it now and again in an interview setting.... she will drop quite a harsh or nasty comment & get a laugh for it and say something like 'im just been honest'
she was a token narcissist, it was always planet cilla
We loved this & Oprah regular weekly whose actions spoke louder than words .Cilla was our treasure with this & Blind Date .
This show was far more meaningful than blind date, ever was!
Behave yourself. Numerous weddings and births came from blind date. All that came from this was a headache from Cilla singing.
@@fatsdom double oh behave yourself.
Why compare?
I like this video of Cilla on the reunion of surprise surprise in 1991. Carol Wilson.
Dont you wish you'd have put your teeth in now. Made me cry with laughter. RIP Cilla
Really, I thought that was crappy.
Manuela Darazsdi I think it just depends whether you understand complex colloquial humour if you don’t it will probably go over your head unfortunately!
I cried with laughter at this.🤣🤣🤣♥️
@@neil1261 That cracked me up too, so witty.
I am going to view these shows as I was on one of them reunited a friend in NZ with his family in UK and OZ, think our show was Easter 1997 with David Essex on it as well.. We dont get this show in NZ and I loved meeting Cilla Black..
Did you find the episode?
thats brilliant, i guess if you type in david essex suprise suprise, you might have a good chance of finding that episode
So Frank Berry's ex-wife just upped and left for America taking the 2 girls with her and not a word to him - unbelieveable !
NOTHING AFFECTS ME MORE THAN THIS UPLOAD.
BE HUMAN, WITHOUT. MERRY CHRISTMAS. MARK.
X BBC. ON THERE, TRUTH. SECOND SIDE UP FM. X
I definitely don't think they did not want to meet - it was just different times and some were just emotionally overwhelmed and finding it too difficult to deal with plus the added pressures of tv cameras and being on television. It deals with heart-wrenching topics and life events. Id never seen this program until now - amazing stories. My only piece of criticism is that FLAMIN STEP!!! Id like to know if some bright spark eventually realised they'd be best getting rid of it - people come out to be reunited with long lost family members, they've travelled halfway round the world, defying illness and health problems - only to be nearly finished off right at the last second by that Flamin Step!!!?? No health and safety in those days!
Talking of which yeah there's much harsher things even before then but that's just the way it was then, though I do think sometimes its like what Adam Hills says now Bureaucracy over Common sense, for them to even have a candle light would require a fire expert at the ready with a fire extinguisher I'm not kidding either.
For some reason when you said about health and safety it would have existed then but then been far more relaxed about it as opposed to now, I mean going far back to the 1800s even just general working of course Hanna Dyson an 11 year old girl her leg was factually crushed in a Mill in Leeds, forms part of the realisation of what it was like in Industrial Britian the latter part of that same revolution, ended up having it amputated, 1864 I think it was, some can't watch the reconstruction video of the surgeon prepping the student Dr's about it. That's at the Thackary Museum the Leeds Teaching Hospitals museum rather.
time has flown cilia been gone 5 years this august can't believe how time is gone
She was a bloody class act was cilla. A bloody class act!!!! God love her.
she were a flaming menace, ask anyone that worked for BA when she were alive
@@poppenlolto be fair ive heard this too, but just thought it was heresay
a great series with our cilla, back when britain was still britain and we had a respectable way of life.
Too true.
What gibberish
@@and2rew why gibberish? it's the truth.
Great show with a lot of hard work gone on behind the scenes with Cilla the perfect host but I felt the first reunion didn't seem to be all that joyful. I am not a body language expert but anyone could see the lack of emotional embraces when the three sons met their dad for the first time followed by an embarrassing silence.
Nerves. It's bound to be awkward. They wouldn't be there if they didn't want to be.
Loved the show. Thanks for uploading. Best bits are when she starts to sing and it's cut. Fan of the show but not of her singing.
It's like a sofa of Deirdre Barlows.
Aww Fabulous thank you x
Lovely surprises weather they get along good together living different lives....only time will tell
I'm crying now! Thanks for uploading x
Wow was this what it was like in 1991??? I thought we were WAY more cool back then...
Fraid not. Lots of ww1 and ww2 generayion people still around in immaculate dress. Different times indeed
3:26 These lads look like they'd prefer to be doing their cricket umpiring than meeting their long lost old man
And now sadly he is no longer with us. God bless his soul.
rubbish. theyre there arent they?
Thanks for this man, good times eh ?
The best, wish we cud all go back to these wonderful times 😘
i need so many tissues. love em. thanks for posting/sharing x
Cillas outfits are amazing
Wonderful childhood memories of watching with my family. Why do we have to grow up.
One of the biggest legends from Liverpool heart of gold ❤️
Nah. Proper Tory. Loathed in Liverpool by many
@@user-zr6ee6lb9m and loved by many more I bet..
30 years ago 😱😱😱😱strewth LOVE THESE
Only Cilla Black could do this programs it was her own and blind date used to love so much was unbelievable she only this programs and nobody can ever take this away from her(the wife)
This was beautiful.
I just love this video of Cilla. Carol Wilson
Great programme one of the best.....
great memories. cilla was a legend.
I think this video is brilliant and very moving. Carol Wilson
Thank you for up loading .made me cry
REST IN PEACE CILLA WE MISS YOU SO MUCH XXX
Poor Frank how happy he must've felt but sad at same time
This is a very good video to watch. Carol WilsonX
"Don't you wish you had put your teeth in!!" ... classic Cilla .. RIP xx
😢Oh I got something In my eyes this was a lovely programme so emotional I have family in the USA who I have never met but seen photos
beautiful days
I never saw these shows as I was not living in the UK. But I now wonder if these types of shows weren't the inspiration for Long Lost Family?? Many similarities. Loved Cilla as a singer.
Yes you're right
love how those cayman island bods were wearing the same jumpers
r.i.p our cilla.she really was ahead of the game. did you see the state of the general public in 91 geez
Loved this show. Apart from the two theme tunes!
Our lovely CILLA x bless x her x
I cried so many times...
Pat doesn't look too happy, at first I thought she wasn't going to leave her seat !
Yep she looks fuming like she doesn't want to know
Rest In Peace, Cilla.
A touching story so far
@2:15 i like it how Bob doesn't help his wife up lol
Tara our cilla , i wouldnt have stayed in liverpool if i had a choice either , not because it,s bad , just because you are born somewhere doesnt mean you have too stay there forever , loads of normal people emmigrate everyday , RIP you were a one off x
Cilla was so loved by the people .... because she always was 'one of the people' without the self important airs and graces.
Father's having their children taken to foreign countries without their say so or knowledge. Oh my god...I couldn't bare to listen. The law wouldn't allow that now I don't think. Its nothing short of kidnapping. Imagine going to visit your children...and the house they were living in is now empty! I would almost die on the spot with grief!!!! Then I'd go searching for them until I found them!!!
Brought tears to my eyes. Beautiful.
I just love Cilla on Cilla on surprise surprise. Carol Wilson
This is a good video. Carol Wilson
Cilla's rollin' the haters are hating. Ta-ra Cilla!
I love this video of Cilla. Carol Wilson
This is a very good video. Carol WilsonX
Some of these people don't look too happy to be reunited
No, I remember reading that someone overstayed their welcome and had to be thrown out of one of the guests house..
Just the one with her head down. Seems too self conscious
That was probably the same Studio they filmed *An Audience With*
It looks like some siblings never change, even in older age!!!😆😆😆
From a time when people dressed up to go to see a show they didn't know they were going to be on .. unlike today.
You found your dad, then you realised you had a grand mother as well!!! Of course she bloody had a grand mother!!!
"Sit down there, chook"
that's was completelt happy emotional .
