  • Ryanair Group CEO Michael O'Leary has told Simple Flying that he wants Europe's largest low-cost carrier group to operate more Airbus A320 family aircraft. O'Leary made the comments on the sidelines of the recent Airlines For Europe Summit, hosted in Brussels, Belgium.

    Always trying to pressure people is Mr O’Leary. It’s always about getting the price down further.

      True., It's his job. And he's damn good at it. This is another trick straight out of the Ryanair playbook. MO'L doesn't want Airbus. He's after the cheap 737s which will be popping up shortly with United and others pulling their orders. The timing is right too. With the FAA quite rightly watching over every bolt Boeing screw in, his max deliveries will be delayed even further.
      Last September (2023) there were around 43 max8 jets still to be delivered, initially supposed to arrive by this month! He has got 15 since then, costing Ryanair more money on fuel and lost revenue due to operating less seats for sale. Not to mention the 150 orders and 150 options for the max10. His goal is to get cheaper aircraft and quicker deliveries and with Boeing in turmoil at the moment, he's striking while the iron's hot.

      @@steinarnielsen8954 So you realise that the 737 Max aircraft can wrest the plane from the pilot or driver. The 737 Max aircraft is the most dangerous modern airplane. It entered service in 2017 and already has 346 deaths attributed to it.

    I will avoid Ryanair even more if they purchase the 737-Max-series instead of A-320-neo. At least the latter plane-type will make me come home in one piece and with significantly lower risk of incidents.

    If I calculated correctly, Ryanair is the reason Boeing still sells more 737s than Airbus does 320s. O'Leary is basically threatening Airbus to build more craft, at the same time dangling the lure of becoming the head honchos right before their eyes.

      Airbus is trying but it really can't, at least based on the current supplier situation. Adding new assembly lines is meaningless if suppliers can't keep up. However, Airbus is ramping up production at it's existing sites.
