Tim Driscoll, Al & EB conspired to sell Tim’s gold-claim to Brom because they thought it was “pinched-out”, and planted the original gold that Brom found there, before Brom bid on & purchased the claim. But when Al decided to kill Brom out on his gold-claim ridge, Dan found a huge vein of gold when he was finishing Brom off. That’s why Al wants to buy it off of Alma aka the widow. Also, the widow wasn’t going through menstrual cramps, she was going through laudanum withdrawals.

Once he decided it was not in his best long term interest they took Bullock to the claim and “discovered” the gold for Mrs.Garret.
I can understand her confusion on that front, though. They planted gold on the site in order to sell it to her husband. That's still stuck in her head.
@@mgordon1100 It can be a confusing show. They don't hold the audience's hand much. They show mostly, and don't tell, and leave it to you to figure it out. The very first vaccine to smallpox, and also the one we're seeing in this episode, was literally to just infect the patient with the closely-related cowpox. (More complex vaccines against smallpox weren't invented until the 20th century.) That's actually where the word "vaccine" comes from: Latin _vacca_ means "cow", and _variola vaccīna_ was "cow pox", so to give someone the _vaccīna_ was literally to give them the "cow" so they won't get the "small".
According to Jim Beaver (Ellsworth), Miles and Flora had a longer storyline planned, but Miles' agent tried to hold the show up for more money, and Milch fired them both and gave the brutal ending to their storyline. This was not the only time that an actor was fired for being a pain in Milch's ass. It happens again in season 2, when an actor/character is gotten rid of because people representing them were a pain in the ass. It changed the whole planned storyline of season 2.
There were lots of small gold claims at Deadwood, but there was one record breaking huge mine. The show isn't historically accurate about who found the big strike or how it was found, but the widow's claim appears to represent that huge find. Swearingen missed out on it.
Here's a comedy movie for you to react to: "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World," from 1964. It has an all star cast. Everyone in it is a top movie star of that era or earlier.
The widow's claim was loaded with gold. That's why Al wanted it. That's why they killed the husband. The widow was hopped up on drugs and her withdrawal caused her cramps and sweating. Trixie thought her only way out was suicide as she knew she didn't have the strength to leave Al or that her place would ever be with the widow's family. She knows who she is and hates herself for it. The killer of Wild Bill was taken to a county seat that had a real government so he could be tried correctly and put in jail for good. That was the honorable thing for Bullock to do, as he still feels the duty he once had as a law man in Montana.
You have everything right except for the reason they killed Allma's husband. He threatened to bring in the Pinkerton Agency if Al didn't refund the money he paid for the gold claim.
Much though I love Dayton Callie's performance as Charlie Utter, I always thought it was rather an odd choice of a way to portray the man. In real life, Charlie Utter was renowned for being excessively, shockingly neat and tidy, with a constantly dapper appearance and a clean look to him. It was how people knew the man, so to make him grungy and unkempt was a bit odd. Still, personality-wise they do a great job of making him likable without being ingratiating in any way. He's tough and self-sufficient without ever needing to display violence or even strong hostility. Elsworth, by the way, is my favorite character as the story goes on. Great performance by Jim Beaver in that role, again making someone who is imminently likable and tough whilst also being just a touch enigmatic. Doc Cochran is a very close second for me. Such a brilliant performance by the ever-brilliant Brad Dourif. Oh, and yeah, you were essentially right about the "brother and sister" duo. They were likely just small-time con artists who played that act in different camps. They just screwed up bad trying it on an absolute psychopath like Cy Tolliver.
There is gold on the claim. That white rock is veined with gold. But they didn't find it until after Dan killed the 'dude'. They tried to buy it back from the widow without letting her know there was gold, but she didn't go for it.

About the claim--Al had been selling that claim to multiple suckers over the years because he thought there was no gold there. They used to salt, spread around a little gold to get the sucker to buy it. After the sucker worked for months with nothing to show for it, Al would buy it back for pennies on the Dollar. After they sold it to the future widow's husband, Al found out that it might be the richest claim in the area. Might be. Good shows often peter out. The widow refuses to sell and Al can't offer a price that would make her change her mind because he is a stubborn ass and can't gamble--he needs a sure thing. He also considers it his property because it was his scam for years and he thought his plan of killing her husband was foolproof.
Ok try to give you a brief rundown on Alma's claim. It was sold to her husband with AL being a go between and he got a substantial cut of the selling price. Al knew there was or thought there was no gold on the claim amd they cheated Alma's husband. Al planted gold on the claim. 31:10 -- RE: What's going on with Alma Garrett's Claim?; A: I think you're mixed up because nobody knew if the "Claim" was good when Al tried to trick Mr. Garrett into buying it. When Mr. Garrett died, Dan tossed him over the cliff and he literally fell onto an outcropping with a gold vein in it, *So This Claim Is Good.* That's why E.B. and Al are trying so hard to trick her into selling it back *before* she finds out how much it is really worth, which is what Bullock is telling her in this episode. At any rate, Alma Garrett *PAYS* Trixie a *LOT* of money by giving her that gold nugget, and then Trixie dutifully goes right back to her "Boss" AKA pimp, and hands it over to him. Everyone's pretty much happy, well, except for Trixie.
As far as Trixie/Al goes. There’s a pre-existing relationship there. Trixie’s suicide attempt was real and her own idea, she explains her thinking more in the next ep.
Cy's worse then Al cause Cy's a sadist that needs everyone to know who's in charge where as doesn't necessarily need to be in charge and isn't a sadist. Al's is always purposefully.
There is a great deal of gold on the claim. Which was found on the day Dan killed Alma's husband, if you recall he looked at the cliff face and gained a look of oh after finishin Brom Garrett off, that is why Al wanted to buy it so very much. Go back and re view the bit where Dan murders Mr Garrett.

As much as they are able, Cy and Al love Joanie and Trixie. Both women are emotionally tied to the men, hate it, and resent them for it. None of them know exactly how to navigate any of it.
Al is so much more likeable than "mayor" Farnam. I've read that the real E.B. Farnum was a well-liked and respected man, who was independantly wealthy. Since this is "historical fiction" every character is at least partially fiction, compared to the real people they represent. But it sounds like o'l E.B. got done the dirtiest.

Russia and America have stocks of the virus which were supposed to destroyed but never were, so I'm glad I was vaccinated.
Ah, she's watching the German version. Dedwüüüüd!
Love you dawn! So glad youre enjoying thia banger of a show
"Hoople Heads" is a derogatory term for Scandavian immigrants
you're thinking of square head
Yup, that was Kristen Bell who played Flora.
Funny thing is the term Hooplehead wasn't created until the 1980s.
I’ve never heard that expression anywhere other than this show
The formation indicates a deposit of precious metals ore.
Jane is my favorite.
Holding up fingers like that could mean ' do you need to pee or poop'; not sure that would help, kerk
great reaction again Dawn!
Dawn, they want you confused at the end of each episode so you wont miss the next one, if the violence gets to you and you need a break but still want to watch a western, check out "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs" it has some of the funniest violence you'll ever see.
Good movie but it has 2 of the saddest stories ever.
Pew Pew Pew It was Justified!🤠
Non-alcoholic cider is just apple juice.
As much as they are able, Cy and Al love Joanie and Trixie. Both women are emotionally tied to the men, hate it, and resent them for it. None of them know exactly how to navigate any of it.
cant wait for your reaction to the big reveal of a character in a few episodes. lol
and there it is. lol
Nothing to say about "Deadwood," (I know nowt about it. Never seen it) except, I will give this video a like to help your channel. Luv you Dawn. X
Lol, how did you get chocolate in your hair
Please make sure you watch "Deadwood The Movie" when you finish the series.
“Pox is pox.”
Never seen someone so confused watching a show that is not that confusing.
Yes, Kristen Bell, and if you've never seen Veronica Mars, put it on your list.
A western Shakespeare 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
10:14 "XoXo Gossip Girl" Kristen Bell
It's OK to be confused!! x x
😂Pinkerton detectives investigating the rich guys murder means government. They like territorial lawlessness. Buying the claim insures that.
No it doesn't. The Pinkertons are a private agency that did security, private investigations, and even mercenary work. They would only report findings to the government as necessary and in an unincorporated area like deadwood they would do whatever the customer wanted.
That's a southern term (an interesting piece of strange).
Southern? It's been used in Northern Iowa forever.
@@brians48now Sure, if you say so??

Hell on Wheels is a great series, it's on amc
Hell on Wheels wanted to be this series, but isn't. It's still pretty good though and well worth the watch, imo.
Hi Dawn Marie after you have finished watching Deadwood then you really should check out the series " JUSTIFIED" this series stars Timothy Olyphant who played Bullock in Deadwood and Justified is such a cool and stylish series.
Both Deadwood and Justified share having great writing IMO.
The _Fargo_ series, too!
Hey Dawn, since the baseball season has started, when are you going to do the movie Major League with Charlie Sheen? Want to hear you sing wild thing, oh yeah!😊
You realize Europeans don’t know or care about Baseball right?
@@KrazyKat007 Just like everyone else, they have to learn, like we learned about soccer. Question is, have they ever played soccer with a frozen soccer ball in the winter like I did?
@@gillesjacques1022 You no one in America cares about Soccer once they grow out of adolescence right?
10:09 Fake newz NOT a new thingy...
Seth Bullock wild Bill Hickok calamity Jane are their names real people
Umm.. She was on opium. She was addicted to opium!! How did you not see that?????
Strange in this case refers to a woman’s private parts.
👍👍👍📺
Younger people might be shocked to know that they re-used needles until the AIDS crisis in the 1980's. Most people born before the mid-1970's have memories of getting injected with needles so dull they practically had to hammer them into your arm, they were re-used so much. People who are afraid of shots nowadays with those single-use needles don't know what a painful injection is!
