Reacting to DEADWOOD | SEASON 1 | EPISODES 11 & 12 | Reaction Развлечения
When Jewel says, “I’m knocked up.” You can see Ian McShane (Al) trying not to break character and laugh out loud. 😆 One of the funniest lines in the series. I love Jewel.
The scene between Al and the Reverend is one of the best i've seen in television. Ian McShane does all his acting with his eyes there. Watching this preacher who has lost control of most of his faculties still continue to preach and keep the faith. everyone on the street passes by and heeds him no mind.. But Swearengen is one captive audience and when he locks eyes with him he is filled with joy to know he was listening. The Reverend is definitely the character that brought Al's softer side out. Probably because he reminded him of his brother.
Doc is heavily traumatized by what he experienced as a doc during the Civil War. That is where a lot of his lack of confidence at times and his fears arise--so many died in agony without any relief from the pain. The actress playing Jewel actually has cerebral palsy. EB was appalled that Alma's father was going to take her to the cleaners. That is some low, when you think of his worldview. Al helping to send off the minister was such a mercy. You nailed it when you said Al has a soft spot. He and Jewel lived in the same orphanage and he was her protector. So as much as he complains, he absolutely trusts her and values her. Her response to why she was seeing the doc was just hysterical.
Watching Swaerengin and Bullock's clmplicated relationship develop as the show progresses is so ultimately rewarding.
Farnam @12:00 sees that the dad is probably gonna try to steal all of Alma's money. Or somehow con her out of it. Even he's appalled by the idea that someone would do that to their own flesh & blood! It's one of the things I love about this show. The different layers of evil bad guys, each with their own moral code.
Yep. Like recognizes like
Farnum's that type of character people underestimate how deviously smart he is
Sophia was a threat to Al because she could have identified the three men that robbed and killed her family and they were associates of his. But one was killed by Wild Bill/Bullock, the second (his brother) was killed by Wild Bill while attempting to get revenge. Al then realised that killing either Sophia or the last robber would equally remove the threat, so he killed the final robber. With no people to trace back to him Sophia is no longer a threat so she is safe from Al.
24:36 the something 'not right' with Doc Cochran is PTSD
He's remembering serving as a doctor in the civil war, all the screams of the injured and dying men. He's praying to a god he feels abandoned those who were sent to war, "What conceivable godly use was the screaming of all those men? Did you... did you need to hear their death agonies to know your... your... your omnipotence?" That whole "Mommy they shot my leg off" bit would've been the cries of one of his patients.
This is of course after Jewel gives the Doc a book about the treatments of injuries sustained in the civil war, which definitely triggered the harsh memories
Every time, “you can go now brother” just rips my heart out.
Seth Bullock was a personnel friend of Teddy Roosevelt after Deadwood. He was the only person other than the secret service that was allowed to carry a gun when he was with Roosevelt.
I sure hope you going to continue right away with Deadwood Season 2 and 3 before you forget stuff...love that show and sharing it with you!
Love Dawn's season 1 recap! Can't wait for Season 2 :)
I'm going through a lot of problems in life I'm an older guy. Just wanted to say I enjoy watching your videos and they make me laugh when you're being goofy. Thanks good reaction.
Jewel is played by Geri Jewell, she's a pretty famous actress here in the US. She's the first actor with a disability to be cast in a prime-time tv series back in the early 80s. I remember her so well from The Facts of Life. It was a very important show for Gen X women.
I was trying to remember what I saw her in when I was a kid without looking it up. She's definitely an icon from the early days of the ADA being passed. People being accepted in society as opposed to being stuck away or hidden in a home of some type. Her comedic delivery is great lol.
I went to college with Geri. We had acting classes together.and became friends. One day the head of the theater department called her into her office to try to dissuade from pursuing an acting career because of her disability. Geri took it as a challenge, and after doing stand-up comedy she landed a role on The Facts of Life- a very popular sitcom. She has written books and currently does speaking tours, advocating for disabled persons' rights. Despite her physical challenges she has proven that her disabilities have not hampered her career. Indeed, she is one of the most successful of my fellow students. We are all very proud of her .
23:47 Blood-thirsty Dawn is arguably my favourite Dawn. 😻
I love Doc and Al's interactions. The amount if people Al always to speak to him the way Doc does can be counted on one hand.
Jewell: the woman that fell in the road that no one help is Geri Jewel, a comedian/actress who, in real life has Cerebral Palsy, she's been acting since the early eighties. I first saw her on a show call 'The Facts of Life'
conds ago
I have to admit as a kid the facts of life episodes with her made me uncomfortable. then you grow old, I see her now, and a tear comes to my eye. happy. very happy for her.
stand up comedian her joke was 'juice newton, reminds me of prune juice and fig newtons, diarrhea for a month'- juice newton was/is a singer that was popular in the early 80's
Watching this again with you reminds me how good it was. You're awesome Dawn!
Jewel has cerebral palsy
In the 1880s?
@@dallesamllhals9161 Yes, it was invented in 1875
It's amazing what typing " when was cerebral palsy first diagnosed?" into Google will get you . . .
@@davewhitmore1958 ..in "The New World", right? 😛
@@davewhitmore1958 I didn’t think it was invented until the 1900’s? 😂😂😂😂
Hi Dawn im loving your reactions to deadwood, a truly magnificent show. When are you going to post season 2 ? I can't wait !
Omg yay finally someone new reacting to this show!!! Excited for the other seasons!
one of my favorite series, cut off before it's time. they were always talking of creating more seasons, but the major stars were constantly do their own films and going big time, they ended up making a film to tie things up 10 or so years later, with the main cast, minus a few that past away in real life. the film is amazing, i was always getting updates on twitter from the deadwood channel. they did justice to the characters, and storyline. a great reaction! enjoy the other seasons! 👍
I used to live near Deadwood, South Dakota. It was a fun place to visit. It has made quite a change over the last 30 or so years back into a Gambling town. Wild Bill and Calamity Jane are buried next to each other in a small cemetery over looking the town. The cemetery is named Mount Moriah cemetery. The bar that Will Bill was killed in was called the No. 10 Saloon. It burned down but was rebuilt. When I was station there, they had the chair he was sitting in when he was shot hanging over the door. Fun fact trivia...... In the game of poker there is a hand called the Dead Man's Hand, because that is the hand Wild Bill was holding when he was killed. The Dead Man's Hand is two aces, two 8's and a queen. They used to. have a reenactment regularly of the Trial of Jack McCall. the town is a big tourist attraction. It is also very close to Mount Rushmore.
If you really like Timothy Olyphant (Seth Bullock), you should watch the series "Justified".
Bring on Season 2!
It’s just as good!
You’ll get what you asked for…
2:56 -- RE: "If it doesn't bother her...."; A: Ah but Dawn Marie, Jewel does have some trouble walking too. It *does* bother her, she's covered in mud, but she's stubborn as all get-out and Al is a convenient and obvious excuse. It's right there in the title of the Episode, and the Doctor is a GD genius at times.
Saving this for my Friday night entertainment. Its great that you are doing the show, its criminally underated.I hope you follow this up with Season 2!
U should visit deadwood. Its amazing. All the characters in the show were real people. Real names and real historic events in the show actually happend in real life in deadwood south dakota.
“Gull your own blood” = grift your own family
This is one of my top 5 favorite shows and I am really enjoying your first time watching it. Thank you for sharing it with us.
my great uncle was on this march under Crook also known as "The horsemeat march" he ended up in Manitoba Canada with a native woman. AWOL
Deadwood was a real place and many of these characters were real people. Wild Bill, Calamity Jane, and others. The general mentions General Custer and his last battle with the Indians at Little Big Horn.
Al died in 1904 in Denver, CO he was found dead in the street with a massive head wound, he brother was murdered a few weeks earlier. and Calamity Jane was one of the first dancers at the Gem the saloon made $5000 to $10,000 a night
Domestic hogs might look fairly harmless, but if one of them sinks its teeth into you, you're about to lose about half a pound of meat, probably out of your calf or your thigh.
One of my favorite episodes of television ever. Bullock beating her dad is absolutely peak. So much going on. Great storylines.
You’re one of the very few to react to this show and it’s one of the better reactions
Are we doing season two ?
Season 2 always reminds me to drink more water 💦
Still a ways to go with Deadwood, but I think you would absolutely love Justified - Tim Olyphant (Bullock) is the lead in Justified as well. (And the series is equally as good as Deadwood.)
Back for my Dawn/Deadwood fix. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
You are going to love when you see Jane again 😂😂😂😂
I haven't gotten very far into this reaction yet, but have enjoyed this series for many years. I find the finale of the first season of Deadwood to be my most favorite season ending of any show, ever. I am hoping you find the ending to be good also.
33:40 -- RE: The Name Of Cy Tolliver's Place; That's the *Bella Union Saloon,* which is a common enough trope name for the period plus historical Deadwood had it, too.
After you started watching this, it made me want to watch it again after l first seen it when it first aired. I picked up a used box set in excellent condition on eBay for only $10. I couldn’t understand most of the conversations they had in the show when l first seen it. But now l do.
Wild Bill Hickok is not coming back. He died in that salon. This is where Poker gets the term (dead man's hand). Which means a pair of Aces and a pair of Eights.
Dorothy fell into the pig pen in the Wizard of Oz and one of the hands jumped to save her she was very much conscience
Jewel understands the Tropic Thunder rule perfectly.
Let me enlighten you about pigs. They don't care whether you're alive or dead, only that you're helpless. Even cats will usually wait until you're dead before chowing down.
EB is a scumbag and he always recognizes another of his kind right away.
There are two more seasons, but sadly the show was very expensive to produce so HBO dropped it before the story played out. There should have been at least two more seasons.
Will you be viewing season 2 of Deadwood soon?
NOPE Not enough views.
Jewel used to be on the 80’s sitcom Facts of Life some useless info
When are you dropping more episodes?
Lovely reactions. Love you and your laugh.
I love the way you say Deadwood.
Dawn great review you had me at Hello.😉👍💓🇬🇧
Looking forward to your reaction to Season 2. Also, since you seem to enjoy modern westerns you should check out "The Missing". It stars Cate Blanchett andTommy Lee Jones and coincidentally has Ray McKinnon ( the preacher in Deadwood) in a small but memorable role.
Can't wait for S2 E 1&2
More seasons and there is a movie also
33:10 -- RE: "... And I still haven't learned how to play Craps..."; You're in luck, there are movies about the Experience, not exactly about how to do it. See also "Hard Eight" (1996) directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, a crime-thriller with a Craps McGuffin as the Title.
Hard Eight is excellent and filmed in my neighborhood.
One day I was trying to help a homeless person I saw at this church door I didn’t know he was blind I gave him some money but he yelled at me because he couldn’t see it
Thank you for reaction .
you know Deadwood made a motion picture with all the actors
Love you!
25:30 Tee-Hee! Al's so nice 😀
When's II?
When Al is getting head, you gotta pay attention. He’s working shit out - personal and professional at times. Awkward, yes. But still amazing
Next up............"Justified" You'll love it. Much of the same cast as Deadwood.
Dawn, you make a good intermediary for me and this series. You scrape most of the crass and vulgar off the characters and allow the story and their stories to come through. I might find Deadwood and watch it for myself now. P.S., you should add Justified to your list of series to watch. It stars one of the main characters from Deadwood.
the real Al was never in an orphanage he lived with his parent til about 28 yrs old then became a pimp
Dawn: What you can do between seasons watch Unsolved Mysteries S5E13 because it's the Deadwood episide. HOWEVER, it also the Black Dahlia episode so maybe you might want to see that 2001 film at some point.
Lysm Dawn Marie❤🥰🥰🥰🤍🤍🤍🤍
For me, it was weird seeing William Russ play a character like Alma's deadbeat dad because I grew up watching him as the wholesome dad on Boy Meets World.
See, when I was growing up I first saw him as the lunatic colonel who thinks he's a god in the first season of _Stargate: SG-1_ so I have no problem seeing him as a villain!
@@rhonafenwick5643 I remember him on that too but that was only for 1 episode and I had seen him on BMW long before that so I still remember him more from BMW. It's good to see someone else on here that's a fan of Stargate SG-1 though. SG-1 is my favorite show of all time. I really wish more people would react to it.
I think the first time I saw him was in Miami Vice! Many moons ago, lol.
awesome
I know what it means!
The average life span in deadwood was about thirty years... not much time for learning and healthcare.
Low average lifespans in the past were caused by high infant mortality. People weren't dropping dead at 30
I am 800!
I'd love to see you do Breaking Bad.
Seth is my hero...so is Al.
Just so you know, even though most of this is actual Western American history, the basic story lines have been enhanced by injecting the collective works of William Shakespeare.
The showrunner and head writer, David Milch, was a Shakespeare fanboy.
Things are really heating up! You are gonna be so surprised at a new character.
Are you still reacting to Deadwood?
..guess she ain't 😞
She said she’s just taking a brief break between seasons.
@@KrazyKat007 Hrmph! That's what "THEY" said after S03!
@@KrazyKat007 Ty!
I really think you would like " The assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford" loosely based on true events
👍👍👍📺
I think Jewel has cerebal palsy
the closest thing to Shakespeare you'll find from America, this and Lonesome Dove
No, he cannot have him hanged. He is a general in the US military. In the United States, the military cannot interfere in local law enforcement in a States or territory. It's called (posse comitatus).
At this time, Deadwood, South Dakota is about to apply for statehood.
The area was not yet a state and whether the military can interfere depends entirely on the circumstances. Aside from that, as deadwood was not actually part of the US and was legally indian territory, the military could do as it pleased to enforce laws and could absolutely have hanged him
@@JS-wp4gs Both North and South Dakota became U.S. Territories of the United States in 1861. The timeframe for this show starts with the death of Wild Bill Hickok in 1876.
So no, it doesn't depend on the circumstances. So again, He is a general in the US military. In the United States, the military cannot interfere in local law enforcement in a State or territory. The military is restricted by (Posse Comitatus).
To bad; not enough Folks watched this...Well, that IS Deadwood 😕
Plz find a way to get more OV dialogue in. Too hard to follow if you haven’t seen in a decade or so.
Al is a big old softy on the inside
I love it when you put your hand on your face and nose, you look so beautiful, do it more times in your reactions
Wild bill is dead
I’d like to give you a whirl Dawn like Doc did with Jewel 🙂💯 NOJOKE 🙂💯
I love that Bullock has 2 speeds, rest and insane rage, his wife is the wife from Breaking Bad
or you can not spoil the next episode
Slow. . . the fuck. . . down. . .when reading the names of your Top Tier Patreons. It sounds like one name!
your gonna see jack McAll again only not as jack, the actor who played mcall plays a different character in series two, he's a really good actor, if you hated mcall, your gonna really detest his new character, really really detest, can't wait to see your reaction to him.
I'm not sure that's the kind of spoiler she wants to see. Hopefully she's watched far ahead and just hasn't released the episodes yet, or doesn't read the comments to her videos until after she's finished watching the show.
NO SPOILERS!!!!!!!
the guy who played McCall comes back as a different character, a worse one
Deadwood Dawn.....😂❤😂
You're such a Calamity ❤❤
