Someone might have already said that but canonically speaking a lot of overwatch characters don't actually know eachother
Thats neat to find out! I started to realize this after Sojourn had mentioned there were thousands of personnel in Overwatch back then
You could also see it in the OW2 announcement cinematic where Tracer had to introduce Mei to everyone because besides just being frozen for a decade, but also as part of the science side of OW, she wouldn't know the military side personnel.
@@KingdomAce Many of the characters in Overwatch weren't even Overwatch agents either, just characters in the universe. Take Widowmaker for example she wasn't an Overwatch agent, and Junkrat and Roadhog had even less to do with Overwatch when it was still operational

Ramattra was a special type of Omnic that was not created by Humans but was created by the God AI that tried to overthrow Humans.
After reaching sentience Ramattra went to Nepal and develop a close relationship with Zenyatta and they both consider themselves as close as brothers. He legitimately tried to live peacefully among humans and coexist with those close to him.
After enduring the cruelty of Humans during the war and after and seeing his people being outright destroyed and celebrated, he had enough and founded Null Sector to fight for better life for his people.
My favorite quote from him is when he transforms in his hulking form. “I’ll speak to you in a language you understand, VIOLENCE!”
Man he is arguably the most interesting character so far. Or at least he has the most interesting overarching story so far. I'm really interested in seeing it develop further.
Ramatra has the most regal model as well in my oppinion. With an awesome voice to boot. The tragic but charismatic antagonist. He's unlike all the other Talon or even OW characters who have very generic reasons to do what they do. Ramattra believes he carries the future and survival of all omnics, his "Suffer as I have" never fails to send chills. Also the fact that his ult is called "Annihalation" is a testament to his power and state of mind. Nothing like "Nano boost", "Missile barrage", "Shatter" and even DVA's "Self destruct" doesn't carry as much oomph.
To briefly expand on brigitte, torbjorn is her father, and reinhardt is her godfather, basically rein saved torb's life on a mission, they became friends and rein as a life debt got to name brigitte (thats why she has a germanic name spoken in a sweedish way im pretty sure) and became her godfathwr and basically rein is very close to the lindholm family and brigitte became his squire later on

Idk but in Eu is pretty popular so i doubt it would be out of place in sweden. I live in slavic country and it Brigita is a common name. one letter least but spelled differently.
The original Overwatch game didn't have many canon interactions, it was mostly out of universe. Only some limited event story missions were canon and happened in the past, before Overwatch was dismantled.
Some characters knew Lucio before, cause he was a popular DJ and Activist, but he never encountered Overwatch in person. Not until Overwatch 2's campaign which has canon interactions, cause it's part of the story.
Other characters that have never met with Overwatch are the Junkers, and Winston isn't aware yet that Hammond is back on Earth I'm pretty sure.

@@KingdomAce well in Winston’s Defense the whole colony was crashing down around him, he probably wanted to but knew he only had a small window to escape, also his father figure dying didn’t help matters. But to Hammond he probably saw this as a betrayal that ended with him struggling in Australia.
Its frustrating but also kinda interesting how you haft to put together a story through so many different types of media. I havent read them but i think alot of the story hast to be read in books and comics to fill in some of the gaps. There are more flash back cinamatics to before overwatch was shut down that where in the first game and they start to show why parts of overwatch were kinda sketchy.
Yeah i kinda hate when a story is scatter amongst different media outlets. I've played some game franchises comfortably on my Playstation but now I have to download a mobile game to continue the story. Its kinda frustrating as someone who notoriously cant get into mobile games even when they're really good.

If you want to mend the frustration about Overwatch being banned, I would heavily recommend looking into a deep dive of the lore.
Specifically lore surrounding "Blackwatch", cause while Overwatch being disbanded is overall not the best thing to ever happen.
They did have a dark shadow, a shadow that caused a lot of damage in the world.

Yeah, overwatch wasnt shut down for being super heroes, they were shut down for their shady blackwatch stuff
@@KingdomAce Basically Blackwatch had the dark members of overwatch. Reaper, Cassidy, Genji and Moira. Overwatch kept criminals alive while blackwatch killed them. People started getting aware of it so blackwatch was pushed further and further back. At some point blackwatch had enough of Overwatch's passivness and cold shoulder. They tried to take over and that's what led to it's destruction.
Sadly a lot of really important lore is in form of the Overwatch comics on their site. Like with Baptiste, Zarya, Dva, and Pharah suddenly joining Overwatch, was because Cassidy after the Reunion animated short, travelled the world to recruit new people to rebuild Overwatch. But no one would ever know that because Overwatch rarely ever talks about the comics :(
Watched all of the overwatch reactions so far and gotta say you're probably one of my favorite reactors. You have a great understanding from the cinematics alone and have amazing artistic commentary on the reactions. The depth you go into and understanding is great, especially when it clicks for you and can pull back to it like with Mondatta. Love it love it:)
One of the things to take note of is that, even in OW1, a lot of Characters haven't met eachother in Canon (as seen with Lucio), they just have connections to other storylines/worldbuilding. Not every hero in the game is part of Overwatch or has met the Overwatch Team. Lucio has met Orisa because of Doomfist in Numbani, but again Orisa isnt apart of Overwatch yet either
Baptiste, Zarya, Pharah, and Dva, are all with Cassidy because of a series of short comics where he recruits them after the "Reunited" Cinematic
1. Lucio never was in Overwatch the organization. He was working alone/ in a rebel cell against Vishkar.
2. I think a valid reason why people lost trust in Overwatch is explained in the Retribution mission archive, if you can find gameplay and cutscenes from that I recommend watching them.
Lucio was not Part of the first Overwatch team.
This is when Overwatch was coming back together with Winston as the New Leader.

Cassidy is called Cassidy because the name Jesse McCree came from an employee with that name, they used that employee's name because they thought it fit, however, that employee was revealed to be one of the main perpetrators of the Blizzard sexual assault scandal, so they changed it out of respect
Several people still use it, but a good portion of the community finds it rude, I'm ambiguous, just thought you should know
A little late but thought I should say- just because they're on the roster as a playable character doesn't mean they're part of Overwatch the organization. There are Overwatch agents, Talon members, Null Sector, and plenty third parties like the Viskhkar Corporation , Volskaya Industries, and the junkers. A lot of these characters have ingame interactions but have never met lorewise up until now, i.e. lucio here.
Other people have probably mentioned this, I'm sure, but yeah, the cast of overwatch in lore are not all acquainted or anything like that. Some definitely DO know each other (ie. former overwatch agents, those with fame are known generally like Lucio, and personal relationships like Cassidy (formerly Mcree) and Ashe) but not everybody knows each other. The in game interactions, while some are DEFINITE tie ins to the actual lore, quite a lot of them are just fun little interactions that don't really mean anything, like for example, Roadhog and Ana interact in game but to my knowledge have never met (im sure if im wrong, someone will correct me on that). There's even some for characters that may know each other lore-wise but to my knowledge havent actually seen each other in YEARS.
Holy smokes! Zenyatta's life is at the center of all of this mess. I think that Unfortunately both Zenyatta and Ramattra will end up fighting against each other. And Zenyatta is gunna fold all the talon agents there. Widowmaker and sombra are not going to be able to run fast enough.
When that time comes I NEED to be there to experience it. Makes me wish Overwatch turned into an RPG instead of a shooter!
These invasion cutscenes were told in-game by the pve missions you can play right now, each of the three missions has the beginning and ending video that you saw in this compilation, and you play through it yourself
With the Lucio thing most of the hero’s don’t know eachother and are just being recruited as this story is unfolding. Characters like Mei, Lucio, brig, dva, zarya, pharah, and bap weren’t appart of the original overwatch team but are joining Overwatch as new members. The characters like dva bap pharah and zarya were recruited by mcree in the new blood comic
Part of why Overwatch was shut down was explained in the Retribution cinematics. Reaper, while still a member, murders a man named Antonio in cold blood.
A few of them *knew* about Lucio, mostly because he does concert tours around the world. So anyone who enjoys his music (Efi (Orisa's creator), Tracer, D.Va, etc) would know about him, but he was never a part of Overwatch, despite he wanted to join so badly.
The original reason Overwatch was shut down was first explained as 'the world keeps getting worse and Overwatch is always at the center of every problem. Therefore, they are the problem'. It was expanded upon with Blackwatch who did the less morally sound jobs and jobs that required a silent and unseen approach. It started to go down hill though when Reyes assassinated a key target rather than capture him.
Arguably, the world caused its own problems, because despite being praised and accepted by the United Nations, every time a serious issue broke out in certain parts of the world, the country would deny Overwatch interaction. Wanting instead to clean up its own mess and do so very poorly. The whole point of Overwatch was to help maintain peace across the globe, but how can they be expected to do so when every time a problem arose after the Omnic Crisis, they were turned down?
But Sojourn isn't seeing the bigger picture (which is humorously her shining trait as a leader), she thinks that because the UN made a decision, it was the right one. Nations are like corporations; they can be corrupted and they can make bad calls. Blizzard's always been great at telling stories, so I'm wondering what we're missing with Sojourn that she would make such a shallow decision.
You should react to PVE cutscenes before Overwatch 2. which was Retribution and Storm Rising. It was about Blackwatch.

Lucio is just a mere dj from Rio. Really just a regular popular music artist. The most interesting thing about him is that he robbed technology from Vishkar (the company where Symetra works) to fight against them since they took his dad or something like that (and also Vishkar is something of evil as it has connections with Talon (Doomfist, Reaper, Widow, etc) even tho they make architecture and reparations by using materialized light to "save the world", but you can only know that by reading the oficial short stories in the OW page, so it's not weird that most of OW players know about his lore. In the cinematic, Reinharth doesn't know him because he's old and doesn't know about pop culture, but characters that are young like DVA do in fact cannonically know about him as he's famous arond the world (even tho they have never met in person).
Btw this "cinematics" were just cutscenes from game if u want u could watch full story playthrough to see some of the interections

I don’t even think Lucio was an adult when Overwatch was a thing😂. He just became a resistance fighter for Brazil during the second omnivore invasion, when Overwatch reformed 👍🏽
The Iris is a believed god-like being, especially by Omnics. Those who believe in that religion believe that Omnics truly have souls, just like humans. Zenyatta, and many monks of this religion, including Ramattra at one point, harnessed the power of the Iris to achieve magic-like abilities. Zenyatta is one Omnic with an extreme ability to use the Iris, as displayed in his abilities, emotes, etc. in game

After the Mauga animated cinematic, it is likely Ramattra and Doomfist made a deal that Talon will finance Null Sector and once Null Sector has a proper army and becomes self-sufficient, Ramattra and Doomfist cut ties and fight on opposite sides. Talon for humanity and Ramattra for the Omnics.
If you remember, watching bastions, animated cinematic, you will probably also remember that during that cinematic bastion keeps having almost like PTSD flashbacks to his time in the first Omnic war. He wasn’t a part of overwatch. He was on the enemy team during the first war.
The reason overwatch was shut down was largely due to the public not trusting them anymore. Blackwatch, the secret black ops division of Overwatch, was revealed to the world after a mission goes really badly, and it opened a whole legal investigation into the organisation. That was essentially the catalyst for the downfall of the organisation as a whole, and sparked the formation of the Petras Act, outlawing all Overwatch activity.
Reaper (before he became reaper), McCree/Cassidy, Genji (very shortly after Mercy saved his life, cyberaugmenting him) and Moira were the main members of the group. Reaper and Moira eventually join Talon, as I’m sure you know already.
Really recommend finding a video going through the Retribution in game event. There’s two cutscenes in that too.
There’s also Kings Row Uprising, and the Havana Storm Rising missions from overwatch 1, but Retribution is definitely the most important lore wise.
What i remember the part reason why overwatch was shut down because a mission in Italy for blackwatch was to take a talon leader to intricate but Gabriel (reaper) killed him so they had to switch the mission leading citizens witnessing them and having propaganda of overwatch was doing illegal things and started becoming a big topic then a event happen with a bombing of a overwatch headquarters killing many agents then getting shutdown of having more bad guys coming on conflict of overwatch falling. I could be wrong but that's what I remember but there's a video explaining the time line and events that happened in history. Its a hour+ long but worth the watch
Lucio's backstory is that he is a world famous DJ who loves hockey, and actually has a soundtrack you can listen to if you are interested (Its kind of dope). And a resistance fighter against Vishkar Corporation, the company Symmetra and Lifeweaver work for. He was never apart of overwatch.

Blackwatch was Overwatch's Covert Ops, doing the dirty work that can't be public. Surprise, knowledge of Blackwatch became public. Specifically, Reyes murdered a politician or something in Italy instead of arresting him, which was the original mission objective. This is what lead to Overwatch being protested against and shutdown. Then Reyes blew up Overwatch HQ while fighting Jack Morrison.

I think the most frustrating part is that Sojourn went from the Dark Knight Batman in her cinematic to the Dark Knight Rises Bruce Wayne. Also react to new animated short "A Great Day." Starring Mauga.
I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure even though we haven’t been told this yet that somehow remoter is actually corrupted the iris or is working with a corrupted version, because I’m pretty sure the iris is that yellow triangle with us fear inside of it that that first sentient Omnic became. What was her name, Aurora or something like that. I say that only because I’m pretty sure we’ve seen somewhere cut scenes or cinematics of some sort that show what the Irish looks like and I’m pretty sure it looks the same as that. in fact, from some of the cinematics we’ve seen in the game playing, it seems almost like Ramada is lying about it being the iris. I guess what confused me the most about it is the way that Zenyatta usually talks about the Irish similarly to hell some religious groups talk about their worshipped being like it’s the god of the Omnics.
Not every hero was a part of Overwatch. For example Junkrat and Roadhog were in the first game but they weren't part of Overwatch. Same with Lucio.
Also they are bringing more story missions and cutscenes sometime next year. They're releasing it slowly overtime they said
Yeah unfortunately these missions are likely to be a one time per year thing, as blizzard said they would take all the criticism of the first 3 missions to improve the next batch. So I wouldn’t expect anymore story until deep into 2024. Can’t believe they’re making us wait on that cliffhanger for this long
There were previous pve events, Storm Rising had some cutscenes. They’re really short, but it’s pretty cool to see the characters in action (obviously we saw it before but it was our first with mercy)

As far as I know that's everyone. Might have missed someone. Everyone else is just in the universe.
For context on why the world doesn't trust OW. Its because they had a secret black op division called black watch lead by reaper. Ginji and cass were given a clean slate from thier criminal past if they joined. Moria joined when she realized she can get away with more is she was in that division. The world found out when they were cought attacking the mercinary side of talon (talon uses the mercenary side as a front for their terristic activity.) The world lost trust because they learned of their shady black ops.
Blizzard heard your cries and threw out a Mauga animated short.
I don’t think Sojourn’s ideals is bad writing. They wanna put alot of these characters through an arc and whether her ideologies change is yet to be seen.
She’s a character that’s never had her Reinhardt moment in honor and glory. No feeling of needing to answer the world’s call no matter what and be their champion of peace. Her main job consisted of making sure her teammates got back safe and move onto the thing. She’ll help them but she doesn’t want to be more.
There was a few ingame interactions that wasn’t shown, because they weren’t technically a cutscenes like the ones from this video. Those ingame interactions might of stitched the current story a bit better, because the cutscenes kinda just jump from one big point to another
Yeah it felt like individual cinematics stitched together instead of being a flowing story
4:04 i’m gonna be honest if you’ve ever watched really actually crazy good Lucio players, they can absolutely do that and more in the game
I think zen is gonna be the one to end the war tbh. The first war was stopped by a sentient omnic who was a monk. Zen is proably gonna do something similar to what aurora did and trancsend.

Hm, I wonder if people would watch a video like that since its not like the widely-watched Official stuff. 🤔
The story mode was good and well put together probably the missions themselves were exactly what they planned on giving us, but people are mad and cranky, because a lot of the extra stuff surrounding the PV story mode was not also included, and because they decided to break up the story Into multiple chunks and drop them slowly overtime drip feeding them in a way that allowed them to charge more for the final product then if we would’ve gotten it all at once. If you didn’t know, story mode was originally supposed to have a lot more to it than just omissions, it was supposed to have the ability to customize and upgrade your characters abilities so the abilities in PVP would’ve been only what you would’ve had may be on your first play through but after playing through one, she probably would’ve gained XP and access to skill tree that allowed you to upgrade the abilities. As a good example, they showed off in some of the promotional material for the PVP that they were planning on having you get an upgrade for Genji’s ultimate dragon, Blade ability that would then allow him to launch bracket shaped damage beams dealing damage from a distance. I think if I remember, there was another one where mie could create like a large snowball, and roll it at a group of enemies. all of this is only available and useable in the PVE of course but sadly some thing we will probably never see at this point. Yes, of course it’s disappointing that the PVC really got stripped down to just being these missions, and I guess I understand people being a little bit mad that they waited so long to tell us about the changes, but I still think people are being a little bit overdramatic whiny little babies about the whole thing. People who honestly say that this has no reply ability probably just skipped all the cut scenes care only about the mindless action and really only try some thing if there’s a major enough reward in it for them, which is just kind of sad. Honestly, in my opinion well it certainly doesn’t have as much replayability as it could have had just the story alone makes me at least feel like I would want to play through it again, even if not right away certainly at some point and I for one, hope that they do make more of these, and will continue to occasionally release them, because I am super excited to see where the story goes and would definitely hate for that to actually be the end.
Missions were fun I just want the continuation but we won't be getting that for months.
I think the reason people dislike it, is because you're basically paying a good sum of money for cutscenes and repetitive gameplay. Like, you can basically watch the whole thing on youtube and it'll be the same, it's not like an actual story game where you do your own schemings and giggles.

He's got to check out Overwatch Retribution Event really leads to the fall of overwatch
PVP in overwatch isn’t fully canon Certain aspects of it are loosely based on Canon, like, for example, a lot of the character interaction, voice lines/dialogue that happened during the pregame while you’re waiting for a match to start is loosely based on their Canaan relationships to each other, and often makes references to canon events. As well as a lot of the various different activities that the game modes will have you perform are loosely based on the types of things that the characters may have experienced during their various missions, but that’s about all the connection PV P has to the games, story cannon. even the Maps in game are only inspired by Canaan locations. When you play through the story or the old archive missions, some of the maps, you will encounter are similar to ones that you see in the PVP but often times altered in someway to make them fit more into the story. I mean, just based on these cut scenes/cinematics alone, I would think the PVP in Overwatch2 wouldn’t even have Torbjörn if it was a meant to be accurate to Canaan, considering the whole thing about Torbjörn not answering the recall, and only helping out for supposedly that one mission

Not everyone was apart of overwatch. Like how Lucio is "new" to the team, there are char that have close to no connection. But most have at least mingled

@@KingdomAcefrom my understanding, Zenyatta's only connection to overwatch was that he taught genji to accept his cyborg body after Overwatch split.

@@KingdomAce It was PVE mission before overwatch 2. There was some cutscenes which was Retribution and Storm Rising. It was about Blackwatch.

Okay, cool, and the lore/story is pretty good? Hopefully, it's deep enough to sink my teeth into. Overwatch's is nice, but it feels like reaching for breadcrumbs when there's so much more they could do.
Yeah feel the same with overwatch as well as tf2. Not super knowledgeable on the Warhammer (total war) lore but it's basically a world of constant war between forces of chaos (demons) Humans, High elves, Dark elves, Skaven (ratmen) lizardmen, wood elves, vampires, Tomb kings (Undead egyptians), Dwarves, Orcs + Goblins and a ton more, obviously some of them find common ground and work together. But honestly I would really really recommend the cinematic trailers to all 3 of the games, you don't even have to get into the games to love them @@KingdomAce
Idk if anyone else had said this yet but overwatch 1 didn't have a story mode its was just pvp so overwatch 2 was originally just gonna be the story mode but they ended up putting all the pvp and story mode stuff in overwatch 2 making them one game

While i make you a playlist for the gameplay trailer, Apex and Valorant have some D A M N good cinematics ✨ ( if you want something silly to react to thats still overwatch related, you could watch some nostalgiawatch things, its basically funny moments just in the community)
The reason Overwatch was shut down was because of a lot of controversy, black ops missions, corruption, overreaching of authority. There's a reason Reyes became Reaper, Moira left etc. The villains, known as Talon, are basically what Blackwatch, their secret ops division became. Exactly what you said about "they don't need to solve all the world's problems" is why they were shut down. There is a big period of time between the end of the Omnic war, and when Overwatch actually shut down, and its that era between the war and the present where Overwatch wasn't always needed, but was policing the world regardless.
Ahhhhh this adds a ton of clarity now and makes a lot more sense why the decision to shut em down was made. Thanks for explaining it to me! And of course for supporting the video 🙏🏾❤️
