I live in Vancouver. I recommend renting a car to get to places. The north shore (cities of West Vancouver and North Vancouver) has great hiking trails and beaches and parking is abundant and free there. Though there are a few places in which a modest parking fee is charged. Van Dusen botanical gardens is beautiful. It's not free but it's a nonprofit so the admission is not expensive. The garden is in the geographical center of the city of Vancouver. Just 1 bus ride away from downtown. If you have a car, abundant free parking at the parking lot. Plus free street parking. There will be a lot of places inconvenient to go to if you do not have a car. the north shore is just across the bridge from the city of Vancouver. but expect traffic jams on the #1 highway (trans-Canada highway) in the summer time. Also I think gas town is kind of overrated. If you like historical streets, there are prettier ones in Boston, Europe,...etc
The Georgia Straight is a free WEEKLY entertainment paper. Bob Geldof was a music journalist for The Georgia Straight in the 1970s previous to his return to Ireland where he formed the Boomtown Rats. Bob Geldof is also known for BandAid's Do They Know It's Christmas and the massive world LiveAid concert. Note: If you're looking for movie listings, the Georgia Straight unfortunately no longer lists movies. The best place is the internet for this.
One of my favourite free things is to take the bus to the Cleveland Dam near the base of Grouse Mountain and follow the trail down the Capilano River all the way to Ambleside Park. You’ll also pass the fish hatchery where they have glass walls against the fish ladders and you’ll see tons of salmon.
Tip: Canada Line from downtown to King Edward Station (King Edward = 25th) 10-12min. From there it’s a nice walk a few blocks south then you’re in the park and easy to cut through up to the top without much trouble. If with elderly &/or disabilities then transfer onto Tranlink bus at the CANADA Line station, or hail a cab ;short ride or you can find/book an awaiting available carshare be nearby (ie. popular carshares: EVO , Car2GO or Zipcar, etc). Seriously,if you’re able bodied, it’s not that far to walk.
Georgia Strait is a weekly entertainment newspaper, not a monthly. It started back in the 1960's as an underground, hippie paper, similar to the Berkeley Barb. The owner, Dan Macleod, saw the writing on the wall and gradually increased (real estate) advertising, while keeping a left of centre (Savage Love) viewpoint with excellent reporting and has so far stayed successful.
Vancouvercis a great outdoor town, and there is no shortage of beautyborcthings to do. The views from QE Park are epic. I also like Jericho Beach, as itvis beautiful and less crowded. Kits Beach is the people-watching capital. Stanley Park isxaxtreasure, andcone could spend an entire day there. Just riding the Sky Train is a good way to get the lay of the land. Just walking some of the older heritage neighborhoods is nice, since so much residential is high rise condos now,
U were in Vancouver and also India.....You are so wonderful.......I am living at the foot of Haro street and working at the 150 suites for 14 yeas. This is amazing............U were in Vancouver and probably were in front of my place. WOW.....Namaste
Hi Dan. Thank you so much for sharing your tips. Hopefully I will make it to Vancouver one of these days so thank you in advance for the tips. I just subscribed to your channel. New RUclipsr here. Hopefully you check out my channel too and subscribe to me too. Thank you for sharing! :D
I knew nothing of Vancouver before this video. Now I know what I want to see! Stanley Park bike path and mountain views from Queen Elizabeth park and free yoga classes sound good to me!
I haven't been to Vancouver, but I know that literally all places in the world have a great list of things you can do for free. This video is really useful for that! THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING! Also i reckon you're really confident in front of the camera! YOU GOT GREAT CAMERA PRESENCE!
It's so great to see so many outdoor spaces that are free and open to the public! Queen Elizabeth Park is my favorite- I'm a sucker for great views, and your shots there were incredible!
I don't know but after watching one or two videos of urs, I feel great attachment with you, It's like u r speaking one-to-one with me....I found ur accent greatly clear and yes, Love from INDIA!
Mad props for the Dilla intro/outro! Great tips as well. I'm visiting Vancouver at the end of September so I'll be checking out a few of your recommendations. Awesome channel. Keep it up!
Rick McCartie... I live near Coal Harbour and the West End. It's easy to get to English Bay especially if you want to stay to dusk there are logs to sit on while taking in the sunset which lingers, it seems, forever! So bring out the camera phones! :)
Thank you!! We are taking a cruise to Alaska and have decided to take a few extra days and spend them in Vancouver!! You just made me even more excited to visit! Any suggestions on where to stay while there? Airbnb or Hotel it?
The first time I went to Wreck Beach we stayed until sun set and everyone cheered as the sun went down. It was really cool to hear all these hippies pay tribute to the sun... sort of this primal feeling haha
Another thing that should have been on that list, was visit Yaletown and the Engine 374 pavilion (where I volunteer) at the roundhouse, Yaletown has alot of shops, parks and history and the locomotive is a great Its a nice piece of history (showcasing the first locomotive to pull a scheduled transcontinental passenger train into Vancouver). Its free to go inside (both the pavilion and the locomotive lol) and take a look (but donations are always appreciated (helps with the upkeep of the pavilion),
To add on to Kitsilano there is the pool ( I get its top 8 go to FREE places but it's good to go to if you have a few extra dollars). It's also the longest North American pool.
Thank you for your reply. But I really tried to cheer myself up by visiting places here in the lower mainland that might give some satisfaction. I drove to Squamish and Whistler three weeks ago . I visited the Shannon Falls and I took the Gandola ride up to the Mountains . It only cheered me up a bit. When I'm in Chicago and New York. The way I look at it it's different. That was thirty years that the last time I was there. I don't know why I'm feeling so bored and anxious here in Vancouver.
Sorry to hear that. If you're looking for more to do around Vancouver, I have a video called "50 Fun Things to do in Vancouver" that you might enjoy. But I agree, sometimes travelling far away from home is the best way to give your mind the reset that it needs =)
Your absolutely right. I look at Vancouver like a place that has got no excitement for me. I don't really mean to say that I look at Vancouver as a Prison.
For myself . As Vancouver does not excite me at all. I myself became a workaholic. I like working over time hours with this huge Company that hired me twenty years ago. I saved up all my earnings just to travel outside the Country in order to change my atmosphere .
I have done 1, 2, 3, 5. Curious to try the rest, maybe minus the nudist beach lol. The Queen Elizabeth Park view looks amazing. I ma in Montreal and a fun free thing I would say is the tam tams on Sunday
1- Watch out if you walk one block East of Gastown you will regret big time because one block away from Gastwon is Vancouver East Side Hastings Street (one place you don't want to see if you are a tourist). Consider yourself warned ;) 2- Watch out for your photo gear if you go to Stanley Park after 9pm (someone just got killed there during taking pictures late evening). 3. If you in Downtown be prepared to be asked for a spare change outside almost every convince store. Outside of every liqueur store homless people living 24 hour so you might see somone urinating in front of you (that's why it smells urine in most public areas in the Downtown area). 3- Please watch your belongings, if you in a coffee shop don't leave your backpack, cellphone or laptop on a table most possibly it will get stolen. 4- Remember all liqueur stores close at 11pm you will not find a place to buy liqueur anywhere else in the city (bars and nightclubs alcohol cut of time 1am). 5- Enjoy this beautiful city, it's truly beautiful!
The New Travel Should be London haha coz i like the melting pot of London society, bcz of that travelers get to see ppls of diff ethnicity, get to eat diff kinds of foods..
Hej, Nice vblog. Good Trips ;-) go on ;) Nice to know also is The Rainbow Crosswalk at Davie Street :) Or The Lynn Canyon Park w The Suspension Bridge and waterfalls for free. You only Need a Bus Ticket.
I've never been to Canada but I've heard how pricey it can be! I hope to explore Vancouver once I move to the US and I'll definitely come back for your tips :) The waterfront looks particularly gorgeous! Are the mountain tops always snowy? When I think of Canada, I never imagine so much blooming around the city. Thanks so much for sharing :) you're so lucky to live there!
Hi, I'm new watching your videos ... I enjoy seeing your travels around the world. I'm from Honduras and I speak spanish but I love English. I AM YOUR NEW SUBSCRIBER😊
We love hanging out in gas town when we come to Vancouver. I wanted to go in the look out last time we went but nobody else wanted to go. We have been everywhere on your list except wreak beach. 😂
They are really great to do but only during summer months. Just during Jan and Feb the weather is terrible and there isn’t much to do indoors and not a lot of festivities compare to summer or Christmas seasons
I watched your video before going to Vancouver for the first time and thank you so much it helped a whole whole lot!!!! In my personal opinion queen Elizabeth was beautiful I liked it even more than Stanley 💜💙🍁💕🍁
I will be visiting Vancouver in October, would recommend public transportation or car rental? Cost isn't an issue for transportation, my main concern is spending most of our time looking for parking then actually enjoying the city.
Hey Judith, great question. If you're going to be staying around downtown I would definitely recommend public transport. The skytrain system is convenient and the central area is very walkable. If you want to visit some of the nature outside the city, a car might be a good idea.
Good question CyborGod! Right now I live in Vancouver so it's a bit easier. I have time to plan out videos and shoot the locations. But I'm spent a lot of time travelling while creating content, and it can be difficult to manage. Since I usually travel solo, that allows me time to set up the shots I want and to take time off to edit footage. But it's important also to not be working all the time, and enjoy the places you are in :)
Never been to Vancouver but if I should go, these are some useful tips. I like the clock and the view over vancouver and the mountains is so nice! I don't know if I try out wreck beach though... Maybe I should vlog about it ... What do you think? better not, huh? lol
vancouver is such a beautiful city, thanks for sharing all these tips, we will be planning a road trip up there sometime soon hopefully as we are only about 6 hrs drive away. We will def go to queen Elizabeth park to check out that view! so amazing,.
Yay! Just what I needed to watch and great timing cos I fly out to Vancouver tomorrow. Looking forward to exploring what looks to be a beautiful city. Have you got any tips on museums, galleries, or free/cheap live music venues? Also is Grouse mountain worth the cost and do-able in a day? Cheers!
This time of year Granville street usually has cool street performers playing downtown. On Grouse Mountain, the grouse grind is a very popular hike, gets busy in the summertime, but it's very do-able in a day. Commodore Ballroom is a cool music venue, maybe you can get a chance to see something there :)
Commercial Drive great. Main Street may lead you to drug infested East downtown You still need 12$ daypass for a day. For me going into Vancouver Art Gallery enough, cost around 24$
If you're into TV show, movies, it could be fun for you to walk around locations where things have been shot, a bit like a treasure hunt. Some examples here: www.fangirlquest.com/vancouver-filming-locations-guide/
plenty of free parking at Spanish banks. May I also add that the admiralty trail (part of the pacific spirit park) is a hiking trail that is parallel to Spanish banks. Ocean view hike!
I´m from Costa Rica but all the paperwork you have to present to apply even for a tourist visa are crazy like dude chill I´m not trying to conquer Canada lol but that hasn´t changed my mind about your country. You have to do a travel vlog here btw (Y)
Hahaha! I hate paperwork too.... I actually have an uncle who lives in Costa Rica! He lives in Quepos :) I've been to visit him, but that was before I started with youtube. Next time I'll be sure to make some vlogs, it's paradise down there 😎 🌴
Oh yeah it's cool in Quepos, lots of nature and close to the beach. I live in the city so it's a bit chaotic but whenever you come back and stop by in San José I´ll be more than glad to assist with anything you may need, I won´t charge you for a walking tour around the city hahaha I mean it, I already follow you on twitter as wanderwabo (Y)
Thanks for visiting my city! I hope all those nature walks opened your heart and allowed you to see the beauty in all people even your President Donald Trump. Love leads the way to truth and a prosperous healthy life. 💖
If you are going to mention Gastown as a place for tourists to visit you should warn them about the aggressive drug addict pan handlers and the steam clock is really electric. Real tourist trap.
I live near there, and yes, as you say there are drug addicts and there are pan handlers. The pan handlers are mostly in the area because there are a high concentration of tourists, so there are more people to ask for money. From my experience it's like that in pretty much every major city in the world. The addiction in the downtown eastside of Vancouver is clear to anyone who has walked through Gastown / Chinatown. It's not something I would ever try to hide - in fact I point out drug needles on the ground in another video of mine called "The New Guide to Gastown". But I don't think there's any need to mention it in a video about free things in Vancouver, or to give a warning... our panhandlers are a lot less aggressive than the ones I met at the Eiffel Tower, let's put it that way :)
Are "8 THINGS" not enough for you?

Coming in mid Nov for a visit, hope sky would be clear

Go to Wreck Beach when it´s a clear day/evening and you´ll see an extremely beautiful sunset!
The first time I went to Wreck Beach we stayed until sun set and everyone cheered as the sun went down. It was really cool to hear all these hippies pay tribute to the sun... sort of this primal feeling haha

I don't know of what so exciting about Vancouver. I've been living here for a long time.
Sometimes it's hard to appreciate what you already have... I've lived in quite a few different cities and I think Vancouver is great!

Judith Martinez Definitely use public transportation
Finding a Parking space in the City is not quite difficult compare from Chicago and San Francisco.
I'm glad I stumbled upon your channel :) I wonder how you take time to stop and edit your work when you're simultaneously travelling. Very Inspiring !

On Grouse Mountain, the grouse grind is a very popular hike, gets busy in the summertime, but it's very do-able in a day. Commodore Ballroom is a cool music venue, maybe you can get a chance to see something there :)
The New Travel awesome - thanks for the tips! I'll be sure to check them out 😊
enjoy your visit!
Helpful video! What month was this filmed in? Is the weather pretty similar (warmest) from June - August?
this isnt free but something fun to do a lil outsider of vancouver is visit the capilano suspension bridge
Great video like a lot :)
Very good
Commercial Drive great. Main Street may lead you to drug infested East downtown You still need 12$ daypass for a day. For me going into Vancouver Art Gallery enough, cost around 24$
Enjoyed the video - thanks!
No problem ;)
This got recommened to me the day i got back from vancouver 💀💀💀

Tks for sharing
i love you and your video.
Thanks a lot bro :)
If you're into TV show, movies, it could be fun for you to walk around locations where things have been shot, a bit like a treasure hunt.

Hello
Gastown it is not dangerous?
thx
Spanish Banks best kept secret in Vancouver and let's not forget Granville Island
plenty of free parking at Spanish banks. May I also add that the admiralty trail (part of the pacific spirit park) is a hiking trail that is parallel to Spanish banks. Ocean view hike!
you forgot Grenville Island Market Dan - good vid tho!
It looks cool, I´d like to visit Canada.
Too bad that getting the Canadian visa is like mission impossible.
I know a lot of people here on working visas... where are you from?
Thanks a lot man :)
what is your camera?
Thanks for visiting my city! I hope all those nature walks opened your heart and allowed you to see the beauty in all people even your President Donald Trump. Love leads the way to truth and a prosperous healthy life. 💖
thanks!

Lol, the advice basically is "walk around the city" (which is free everywhere in the world)
Swimming nude in the ocean sounds fun!

Dave Franco visits Vancouver.
😂
Thanks for sharing. C u bc 😁😁😁
coool
Thx bro :)
The New Travel you are Welcome, wish I could visit Vancouver or even move there
