@@LordHorst He's right though, knowing a language at a basic level (like A2) is nice for your personal self esteem and it's better than not knowing another language at all, but it would be delusional to think that such a level is anywhere near sufficient to actually communicate with people in a country that speaks it. You can order food in a restaurant in their language but as soon as they have a single question about your order you won't understand a word and they will have to switch to English, if they speak it.

It's quite interesting to see how (not always, but generally speaking) most people who said they only speak one language they're actually English. Sometimes we complain in Academia it takes non-native English speakers much more time to read and process a paper than an actual native speaker, but most of them are not even aware (or worse, they refuse to acknowledge) how much easier it is for them due to the fact the the bulk of the literature is in English, most important conferences are in English, and so on and so forth. It is also interesting it seems most of the non-native speakers, in addition to making the effort to learn English, they also find time to learn a third, fourth language.
The snobby world of Academia doesn’t appreciate foreign languages and non-native English speakers who can speak more than one… What a bunch of tossers. 🤦🏻♂️

Speaking as a native English-speaking Londoner...I went to Prague 5 years ago with my partner, his German mum, and our son. We were waiting for service in a restaurant and a couple of French ladies were sitting at the next table. I was vaping and one of those French ladies commented "oh that smells quite nice!" in French and then she waved her hands around to try to explain what she meant. But we all already understood what she meant because we understood French. We then proceeded to chat to them in French. They were the only people I'd met in Prague who didn't speak either Czech or English. I'd spent three months before we went on holiday there learning some basic Czech, and it did come in handy, because not everyone speaks English there. But the waiters in Prague? My God, they're utterly multilingual, and they're smart. When our waiter came to take our order, he spoke to us in French because he'd been listening in to our conversation with the French ladies at the next table. We responded in French but said we were actually English speakers from London. 🤣 And of course, he immediately switched to superb English. I have so much respect for the waiters in central Prague.

I too love the way it sounds, just find it hard to replicate. Need more practice.)))
@@TERN666 absolutely!
I know what you are trying to say, but I think what you meant to say is that RP (received pronunciation) sounds beautiful.... its shame to hear British being labelled as an accent, when Britain contains around 40 different English accents.
@@Anders-B yes, that exactly what I meant, thanks for clarification
Good to see you finally found someone who spoke farsi
These videos are always interesting but, you should do a "Best Of" compilation.
The most fluent speakers in your library.
I hate when people say that they speak another language and they're like stuck on A2. That's not "speaking". I never say that I speak German or Swedish because I understand them and speak them on A2. Speaking is B2 or B1.2 (and of course C1, C2), below is just not speaking, it's understanding.
Totally agree
You're right! Had a friend learning French for 3 years at school. Asked her then, whether she would be able to count in French from 1 - 100? No!
Quite honestly, it's a mindset like yours that make people afraid to try and speak in a foreign language.
I agree but Lord Horst also has a point though.
I love how you incorporate more architectural and cultural shots in this video than the previous one. I haven't been to London in about a year, and am really missing it.
Also, in the ad in the middle you're obviously in Iceland.

Great work man, these videos are very interesting, keep going. ❤
That brunnete of the 12:15 minute is really wonderfull 😍😍😍
Thought it was quite funny having a clip of a building with a bunch of Irish flags as the Ivorian guy was being interviewed as they share the colours just in the opposite order! Idk if intentional or not...
watching how people in London speak different languages is very special. I hope the number of interviewees gonna be larger the next time you shoot a video. Well done

I really wanna record some videos of me going around speaking the latter two with strangers.

I speak five at different levels. When you get to the fifth the grammar gets easier. The fifth is Welsh. Nearly all European languages are subject verb object. In Celtic languages it is verb subject object. And mutations!!.
4:52 it's so rare to see someone in London speak actually nice English. I know that to the natives this seems like posh bs, but to me, as an immigrant, it's a pleasure to hear someone speak in such a manner. British women just as pretty as anywhere else.
I was just now binge watching this channel, perfect timing

London and diversity, its all a sham and just a superficial impression. I lived long enough there. Gang wars, strict zones of ethnic ghettos... you name it
It's quite interesting to see how (not always, but generally speaking) most people who said they only speak one language they're actually English.
Personally, I speak 6 languages; Luganda, Kiswahili, German, English, French, and Zulu😅😂😂So it's great to see such videos that continue to show how disparate we are.

it's fun, Chechya is occupied by russia ;) It's been part of Russia since 1860, similarly you would say Scotland is occupied by England or Texas occupied by US or Barcelona occupied by Spain etc...
