OMG you just saved me over $700 buying a new Wide format printer. I have been putting off making these flags for just this reason. You are the ABSOLUTE BEST!! Thank you for being such a great teacher.
Wow, what another great tutorial!!! I have wondered how I could make garden flags and now you have provided the instructions. Thank you so much Jennifer!
If you spray a UV protector over your flag, your colors will last a lot longer since strong sub N can restart the dye sublimation process a little at a time.
It may be too late, but I am just getting to my garden flag project. Thank you for your tutorial. I have a question, however: I don't know how to "center" to create the red vertical and horizontal lines to split the design into 4 quarters. Can you tell me what I am missing???? I have centered after selecting size of 12.05 x 18.05, but no red lines. Thanks again, Cathy
Here are a few steps to ensure you get those red lines: Ensure Guides are Enabled: Make sure that the guides feature is enabled in your design software. This is often found in the view or settings menu. Select the Correct Tool: When you are trying to center your design, ensure you are using the move tool or the alignment tool, depending on your software. Drag the Design: Click and drag your design towards the center of the canvas. The red lines should appear when the design is aligned with the center of the canvas both vertically and horizontally. Check for Lock Icon: Ensure that the lock icon is closed to maintain proportions while resizing and moving your design. Use Alignment Options: If dragging doesn't work, use the alignment options in your software. Look for options like "Center Vertically" and "Center Horizontally" in the alignment or arrange menu. jennifermaker.com/sublimation-garden-flags/
Thank you for your reply!! I was able to figure out how to split the design. I also learned that I was trying to put a PNG file into Adobe Reader. When I made a PDF file I was able to actually use Reader as a "free guest" and not on a free trial. Thanks again....from Cathy of Monroe Michigan!!
Absolutely love this tutorial. I know you have an epson and mac. When I go to print poster, my epson 2800 does not allow me to. I read a bit and some say it is not compatible. I wanted to know if you had this issue or knew how to fix it?

I am not sure if you have tried this workflow on the Brother SP-1, but I am having problems with printing the tiled images using Acrobat. Do you have any advice? Have you tried printing from Adobe Illustrator instead?
It sounds like you're having some trouble with printing tiled images using Acrobat. While I haven't specifically tried this workflow on the Brother SP-1, I can offer some general advice that might help you. Check Printer Settings in Acrobat: Ensure that your printer settings in Acrobat are correctly configured. Go to "File" > "Print" and make sure your Brother SP-1 is selected. Under "Page Sizing & Handling," select "Tile" and adjust the "Tile Scale" to fit your needs. Make sure to check the "Overlap" option to ensure the tiles align correctly. Use System Dialog: Sometimes, the print settings in Acrobat might not offer all the options you need. Click on "Print" and then select "Print using system dialog" to access more detailed printer settings. Ensure that the media type is set to "Premium Photo Matte" and the quality is set to "Best" or "Highest." Adobe Illustrator: Printing from Adobe Illustrator can give you more control over the print settings. Open your design in Illustrator and go to "File" > "Print." In the print dialog, select your Brother SP-1 printer. Under "Media & Quality," choose the appropriate media type and quality settings. Illustrator also allows you to set up tiling manually, which might give you better results. Check for Software Updates: Ensure that both your printer drivers and Adobe software are up to date. Sometimes, issues can be resolved with the latest updates. Test Print: Before printing the entire project, do a test print on regular paper to ensure that the tiles align correctly and that the print quality meets your expectations. If these steps don't resolve your issue, you might want to consult the printer's manual or contact Brother's customer support for more specific guidance.
Hi! I am going to order these flags and give it a try but I had a couple of questions about the double-sided ones. When you sublimate the second side, it looks like you did it with the second side facing down instead of up? I'm curious why that is? I didn't hear the reasoning in the video. Also, do you feel like the double-sided ones are pretty thick? For example, could we put a design for one holiday on side a, and a different holiday on side b without being able to see through it?
You would be able to see both side of the flag unless it is put on a wall. It is right side up on both sides. jennifermaker.com/sublimation-garden-flags/
Hi there - I am having so much trouble trying to flip this. I figured out mirroring and as you mentioned, all printers are different but I do not have a flip option. I do have a rotate 180 degrees but even that doesn't work. Any suggestions?
It sounds like you're having a bit of trouble with flipping your design. Since you mentioned that you don't have a flip option but do have a rotate option, here's a workaround you can try: 1. **Rotate 180 Degrees Twice**: If your software allows you to rotate by 180 degrees, you can rotate your design 180 degrees twice. This effectively flips the design horizontally. 2. **Use External Software**: If the above method doesn't work, you might want to use an external software like Adobe Acrobat Reader or any image editing software that allows flipping. You can open your design in that software, flip it horizontally, and then save it before importing it back into your design space. 3. **Check Printer Settings**: Sometimes, the flip option might be hidden in the printer settings. When you go to print, look for an option like "Flip Horizontally" or "Mirror Image" in the print dialogue box. 4. **Manual Adjustment**: If all else fails, you can manually adjust your design by rotating and positioning it as needed to achieve the desired effect.
Jennifer, I tried to make a garden flag using my sawgrass 500 but, it won't let me flip my page so I have to keep trying to figure out how to add the text and have both all pages flip before printing? Can you help?
Here is some guidance that might help you: Design Preparation: Use the rotate tool to adjust your pattern. The rotate icon in the upper right-hand corner allows you to rotate your design. Hold down the shift key while rotating to make it rotate in neat increments. Horizontal and Vertical Flip: Use the left flip icon to flip your pattern horizontally and the right icon to flip it vertically. Mirror the Design: On the prepare screen, make sure your material size is set to 8.5 by 11 inches. Click the mirror option since you’ll be applying the design face down and using heat to transfer it. Double-check all settings before printing. Here is a link from Sawgrass. care.sawgrassink.com/hc/en-us/articles/10865564779803-Print-Manager-Print-Settings-Explained
Hey i have One Question. I am getting a single line on my flag and its not where my press is cutting it off since I am using a 15x15 and pressing twice. Any recommendations on what this could be?
Ensure that your design is properly aligned before pressing. When you place your print face up on your work surface, make sure the top of the design is oriented correctly and centered. This helps avoid any misalignment that could cause a line. When pressing, make sure that the pressure is evenly distributed across the entire area. If the press is not evenly distributing pressure, it could cause lines or uneven transfers. You might want to check if the press is level and if the pressure settings are consistent. Since you are pressing twice, ensure that the overlap between the two pressings is minimal and even. Overlapping too much or too little can cause lines. Try to keep the overlap consistent and avoid pressing the same area multiple times with excessive pressure. You can show a photo and post in the group for better help with this. facebook.com/groups/sublimationmadeeasy

When Jennifer clicks on Printer at 10:26, I do not have that option, nor are there more printer options to do that anywhere else. I tried mirroring in Google drawings first, but it won't mirror the text box. I tried various other methods (using Word Art in Drawings, fumbling my way through Inkscape) but when I print, the letters are outlined and not filled in in the text box. HELP.
Thank you for the tutorial! Very helpful but... those flags you recommend.... while they sublimate well they are cut horribly uneven and sewn crooked on the top. Had to try and trim them all to get them to match up with the design which then caused fraying on the edges...and... they are gray and not white like in the photo. Hugely disappointed in the product mentioned. But I love your channel! Just wanted to mention this in case the quality went down hill from when you bought them and did this video..

I pulled out an old Windows laptop and have managed to print with Acrobat that way but can't seem to keep the lines out where the 4 pieces come together. OK for me but not if I wanted to sell any of my garden flags. Any tips on how to get a seamless press?

I have tried to print this over 5 times!! Any ideas on what to do? I just get a printer error. Doesn’t say what the reason is. I have a ET-2760. Thank you.
without knowing any other information I don't know why it would be doing that! Have you tried printing something else?🥰
@@JenniferMaker yes. It only stops printing from acrobat and the poster setting. I printed the poster size on my regular printer and it was fine.
Clever

Help, please. I followed this video and came out with a much bigger print out than my original size with many more pages than I thought I would need.

I'm having a lot of trouble with this if anyone can help. I have a converted Epson 3760, and use Adobe Acrobat Pro for reference. I cannot figure out a way to mirror the image. HELP.

i like this video😄
I'm so glad to hear it, thank you! 💗
The poster is greyed out and I am not able to see any of these options...help

Can you use Cricut design space to upload your files?
Yes, you can download SVGs and upload them to Design Space.
@@JenniferMaker does the file used for sublimation need to be in PDF format? Or can you use Cricut design space for sublimation?
For some reason the 'Poster' option is not highlighted or it won't give me an option to click on it when I am in Adobe Reader. I have tried several different times and still not working. Help please. Thank you

@@JenniferMaker None of the information helped me. I did find that by changing my printer to ‘Send to PrintMate’ then it worked. Thank you again!
All of a sudden the Poster button is grayed out and it doesn't work. Any ideas

@@JenniferMaker Oh sorry. I guess I wasn't paying attention 😬
HELP!! Every time I try his I get lines in my designs 😩
Check to see if you have the right printer settings. You might want to check the print head alignment, you can print a printer purge file to force the ink through.
I making my own picture
That's great!
