      Orbots took its inspiration from an already existing show. After the first season it was sadly sued into nonexistence. If it had been allowed to continue I have no doubt it would have been huge.

    • @cneterer
      @cneterer 2 года назад +5

      South Korea actually got an action figure set before the show was cancelled, but few units hit the stores. It was made off toys from the "God Mars" series the animation designers copied, which didn't help in the lawsuit. I am friends on Facebook with Taiwanese comic book artist E.j. Su who said he saw those MO toys as a kid but only rich kids had a prayer of getting them.

    unlike volton which was a "butchering" of the original Golion, Mighty Orbots or Maiti ōbottsu as it was called in Japan was a joint venture that was a colaboration between TMS entertainment and American TV producer Fred Silverman to create an animated series that took the "best of both worlds" of both Japanese and American animation and have it apeal to both Japanese and American children. There was very little edited out in both versions was the series was quite good with good humor with good action and suspense. I really enjoyed this series as as little kid and have fond memories watching this series was a little kid.

      The problem was, TMS reused God Mars designs to do this, rights they didn't own and had no permission to use. While TMS did make God Mars, they didn't OWN it. But they acted like they did, sold this show to ABC and everybody got angry. The owners of God Mars went after TMS, Tonka in the US went after the name of the show, Bandai got angry at everyone and ABC was left looking stupid for buying a show with more lawsuits than episodes. The show was a failure on US TV so ABC just let the show die and then nobody needed to fight in court where judge would say TMS was a bunch of criminals. This wasn't the first time they stole IP they didn't own and made a new show.

    I remember that I saw this series on TV when I was in the senior year of High School! and I still do to this day! Here are my favorite quotes from "Mighty Orbots":
    1. Robert Simmons: Orbots, unite!
    2.Robert Simmons: Orbots, separate!
    3. Robert Simmons: Crunch, separate, and chow down!
    I love Rob Simmons in his outfit as the Orbots commander! That's its inspiration!

    Kind of a bummer that this 1980s theme song was forgotten. It rocks out fairly well. Sure, it might not have shredded as hard as Thundercats or Transformers 1986. However, it is great.
    I loved the look of 1970s and 1980s mecha. Sometimes I wonder if I was born to love it. Other times I wonder if it was because I loved the interior of my mom's 1985 Nissan Maxima.
    I think about how I got a burning desire to visit Japan in 1989. The Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo went on sale and it sounded like magic to me. I saw pictures that I now realize included Shibuya Crossing. I loved robots and tech gizmos. Maybe it makes me wonder how people didn't get the desire.

    A rare for a cartoon to finish the series in the 80s. They defeated there enemy.

  • @shadowofbosstown

    This feels like something Alan Moore would give a dark twist to. Like the Orbots each have a human brain in them, like Umbra killed them or whatever and the Galactic good guys installed them in prototype robo bodies. Probably sounds stupid.
