the sheer balls to pull that off means that Cobra is serious also if successful, that would be a heavy psychological effect on the American people. Mostly likely to piss off us unless if they had plans for that.

Actually that was the reopening of the statue of liberty, in the mid 1980s the statue was given a total overhaul, it had fallen into some disrepair and it was covered in scaffolding for over a year while the work was done.
@Jack Rabbit We call those Liberals. They're great at deceiving people into thinking that they're American, when a lot of us know that they are aliens.
Even as a kid I was never a big fan of the Cobra-La stuff, but this intro alone made me rent the VHS tape so many times that the owner of my local mom-and-pop rental shop eventually just said I paid for it and gave it to me.
It’s a small thing, but I love how the Statue of Liberty in most of the shots is animated in the foreground rather than the background. Even in scenes where she doesn’t move her color palette is bright and visible like the Joes. Animating those insane camera pans like the flag being flowing up to her crown took a lot of time and effort, but boy, does that effort show in the final cut.
that and some more like Rambo, or maybe Jack Ryan, who don't take any crap from anyone and who do the right thing for the right reasons. America needs a wake up call to all the crap that's going on and something to inspire them to do something about it.
I’m 42 years old and I’m just glad I am not the only one. I don’t know which one is better this intro or hot rod unleashing the autobot matrix of leadership!
Only Cobra would have the balls to attempt to blow up the Statue of Liberty live on TV during the 4th of July! Of course this possibly also meant that ALL of GI Joe would be standing by, since the 4th is probably their most celebrated holiday, but I digress. You got balls, Cobra.
Well since they’re terrorists, their goal (by definition) is to cause everyone to fear them so they’ll do what they want. Blowing up one of America’s most treasured landmarks which symbolizes freedom on one of America’s most treasured holidays which celebrates freedom would definitely cause a lot of fear.
It's such a beautiful intro there's absolutely no dialogue just the song shitload of action we are to watch it figure it out ourselves you are one hundred percent spot-on he's got huge balls to try to pull this off
I don't care who you are, where you're from, or what your preferences are, this HAS to be acknowledged as the aboslute pinnacle -- the incontestible zenith -- of 1980s animation. And if you can think of anything better, I'd like to see it, because this movie intro is bloody amazing.
I like to think that the actual movie was another universe. Where everyone was stupid. And the intro is the real universe. Also supposedly this was going to be the original ending to their original idea for the movie.
I read that The Movie is best regarded as "G.I. Joe: the Halloween Special" and should have ended with a postscript of Shipwreck telling the tale to a bunch of schoolkids
Yeah, pretty much. Between GI-JOE, Chuck Norris and Rambo, the Americans had the Soviets outgunned so the Soviet leadership gave up the Cold War and let Eastern Europe go.
The Soviets had the Oktober Guard, which also fought against groups like Cobra and The Dreadnoks. They were more rivals, than enemies of the joes. In that they usually operated in countries that weren't friendly with the United States.
That's good to know. I can imagine the October Guard being merciless to Cobra and being brutal to any Cobra personnel that they get their hands on. Anyhow, it's good that the October Guard had the parts of the world that weren't friendly to the U.S covered.
I’ve seen men catch bullets with their bare hands, sword fights That can cut through dimensions, giant mechs fighting giant monsters, super-soldiers fall from orbit and survive, witches that can bend reality, a Titan who wiped out half the universe, and a man who literally out ran time itself. But *THIS* 0:39 an animated intro of a bunch of international terrorist jumping from an air ship, assaulting one of America’s most prized monuments yelling their organization’s name COBRA at the top of their lungs has to be one of the most badass things I’ve ever seen!
it really reminds me of RA2... I wonder if its inspired by GI Joe... theres a mission where the soviets are trying to destroy the statue of liberty as well, and the allies have GIs as infantry units... Theyre both like semi-silly semi-serious style and stuff except RA2 has soviets and allied nations
Hoo-ahh!! That's our nation flag, no one & nothing can take that away. If anyone tries to take or destroy our country & its ideals. Like terrorist organizations such as Al-Qaeda & Taliban...others like them. They'll be in for one Hell of a fight.

Hahahahahahahah YES!!! 👍
Bouncer
America, the beautiful
Gotta say watching GI Joe and Thundercats as a kid played a part in me becoming a professional Firefighter.
It’s the greatest example of Reaganite Propaganda I’ve seen
Agreed!
Happy 4th of July to those watching this
Yo Joe!
No matter how many times I hear it, this ALWAYS gets me pumped up! YO JOE!!!!
I'm now a grown-@$$ man who served in the real military. Why does a cartoon from my childhood still elicit tears of pride? SMH
Same here
Same here
And here as well...Desert Storm / Shield
Thank you for your service. It akso makes me feel a great pride.
GODDAMN RIGHT !!!!!
I really miss Chris Latta with his unmatchable voice for Cobra Commander and Starscream.
The world 🌎 lost a legend the day Chris Latta died.
Damn brain hemorrhage
It’s gotta be a good feeling having played two of the greatest cartoon villains of the 80’s. Hell I’d say two of the greatest villains all time.
On gawd
Wish he would've lived to do conventions so he would have known how much the fans love him.
They never give up! They never say die! Walking tall with banners high, they sound the battle cry!
I get choked up at that part for some reason.
I have been a Lifetime GIJOE fan and this is the MOST EPIC animated intro ever. You can't help but getting hyped when hearing this intro! AWESOME!!!
Their guns fire bullets *AND* lasers at the same time. Holy shit.
Laser Bullets: When you need to kill a guy more than dead!
General Hawk was blasting wasn't he
Spiderman TAS flashbacks intensify.
Lasers: for when you need a target dead and turned into swiss cheese.
The guns are actually powered by AMERICAN SPIRIT.
Cobra Commander doesn't need a reason to try to blow up the statue of liberty.
That's just how he rolls.
He prolly doesnt like the French. Lmfao
funkydanieluk yeah he just a jerk
blowing up the Statue of Liberty makes you feel like a Nazi!
the sheer balls to pull that off means that Cobra is serious also if successful, that would be a heavy psychological effect on the American people. Mostly likely to piss off us unless if they had plans for that.
@@DeathScepter oh
Just watched the new Transformers film... you gotta see that ending
May the crossover be everything we hope for...
Anyone else here after watching transformers rise of the beasts?
For sure after the end of rotb i am so excited gijoe is back!!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Yep
Yes sirrrrr
Let's hope this newer iteration of G.I.Joe fares better than its previous failures which, even by this IP's standard, feels like a GIANT leap of faith.
Most cartoons: we need to tone down the violence for the kids
GI Joe: Yeah kids! I killed the shit outta those snakes on the fourth of July!
No human ever gets hit by any of those guns fired. Robots and vehicles? Oh yah, everything hits them.
It's the Gundam logic. The MC will blow up entire space-faring batteships, killing the entire crew, but then have hangups about killing one enemy in a duel.
Actually that was the reopening of the statue of liberty, in the mid 1980s the statue was given a total overhaul, it had fallen into some disrepair and it was covered in scaffolding for over a year while the work was done.
This was created before the statue was uncovered and reopened as you can see the torch is still in the original configuration.
🎆🇺🇲 *AMERICA!* 🇺🇲🎆
When you're sad and just need to feel like an American, you play this.
@Jack Rabbit We call those Liberals. They're great at deceiving people into thinking that they're American, when a lot of us know that they are aliens.
This actually gives me more feelings of patriotism than the actual national anthem XD
@@koolmckool7039 as a Liberal myself I know the kind you mean and they drive me crazy too
@@Dragonrider1227 They complain and complain about the U.S but don't realize that it's really the only country you can do it in.
well said
Even as a kid I was never a big fan of the Cobra-La stuff, but this intro alone made me rent the VHS tape so many times that the owner of my local mom-and-pop rental shop eventually just said I paid for it and gave it to me.
One of the baddest theme songs and show openings ever! Loved it as a kid!
the guy in the background singing CO-BRAAA
Is like the greatest part of the song XD
Yeah... A Canon
COBRUUHH!
He sounds like he’s lost and looking for the rest😂😂😂😂
This should be played every 4th of July publically
MetalmaT Same with America fk yeah.
I've always wanted to see a music video of this song being performed by the Marine Corp Band.
Agreed.
Awesome intro had a wonderful collection that was stolen...Real estate lady you stole from a kid I still remember you!
MetalmaT GOD DAMN RIGHT!!!!!!!!
We could sure use some real GI Joe these days. This intro was an inspiration.
that and some more like Rambo, or maybe Jack Ryan, who don't take any crap from anyone and who do the right thing for the right reasons. America needs a wake up call to all the crap that's going on and something to inspire them to do something about it.
@@brodielarson9096 Agree.
Ladies and gentleman, please stand for your new national anthem.
lol
Just keep Roseanne away from it.
;)
"And here to sing the GI Joe Theme song, Fergie ..."
I would gladly!

No matter how many times I watch this, I ALWAYS, get excited & pumped when I see Duke go into action picking up the flag.
This was the BEST PART OF THE MOVIE!!!
anyone else get goosebumps from hearing this?
every damn time
JEFF HIGGS This intro bring tears to my eyes every time I watch it to be honest 🤔
yes
I’m 42 years old and I’m just glad I am not the only one. I don’t know which one is better this intro or hot rod unleashing the autobot matrix of leadership!
Yup
The Joes only fought Cobra. Imagine the glorious morale knowing every mission you're 100% the good guy.
It's such a beautiful intro there's absolutely no dialogue just the song shitload of action we are to watch it figure it out ourselves you are one hundred percent spot-on he's got huge balls to try to pull this off
@@blountman747 there is one line of dialog "Cobra Retreat!"
He woke up that day and was liken"you know what? Ima fuck with them today lol"
Who after seeing Transformer Rise of the Beast?
This is the most American thing I've ever seen in my life!
I want to love my job as much as Cobra Scream Guy.
You will someday.
Same.
My cousin made me feel guilty because I liked the Cobra part! R.I.P Big cuz…
Gi Joe is totally badass, but the Cobra Crimson Guard have the absolute coolest looking uniforms
I preferred the viper uniform?
Iron grenadiers are better as ceremonial looked soldiers
I'm partial to General Hawk. Camo pants, tanker helm and goggles, aviator jacket.
@@OverlordGrizzaka
General Hawk did have a cool look.
Actually the Crimson Guard had to be educated in both combat and in business and law
I don't care who you are, where you're from, or what your preferences are, this HAS to be acknowledged as the aboslute pinnacle -- the incontestible zenith -- of 1980s animation. And if you can think of anything better, I'd like to see it, because this movie intro is bloody amazing.
The intro alone has more class and style than any anything they have done in the last 30 years with gi goe
The credits should just start scrolling after this intro. I mean seriously do you even need the rest of the movie after this?
Yes, you do. How else would you get to watch Sgt. Slaughter get his ass kicked by Nemesis Enforcer?
Deleted scene
I like to think that the actual movie was another universe. Where everyone was stupid. And the intro is the real universe. Also supposedly this was going to be the original ending to their original idea for the movie.
This one intro is better than both the live-action movies combined.
I read that The Movie is best regarded as "G.I. Joe: the Halloween Special" and should have ended with a postscript of Shipwreck telling the tale to a bunch of schoolkids
Who ever lived in this era of cartoons is the best era hands down i miss the 80s
GI JOE ACTUALY SHOWING THAT THE UNITED STATES SHOULD AND ALWAYS HAVE A STRONG US MILITARY
Hell yeah, my friend. I miss it too.
@@TANKTREAD count me too.

We all miss the 80s. The Rock, the toons, the shows, Nothin like it ever
Happy 4th of July and to my fellow Joes, Yo Joe!
I missed seeing this yesterday! I try to see this on July 4 every year.
I have always loved the GI Joe intro from the 80s. This takes that old intro to the next level! Very well done.
I've always loved this theme more than the original.
Easily
I can see why
I'm sure you, me and most everyone familiar are in the majority on that opinion.
@Ursine ComicGeek dude, everybody likes this theme song.... even ppl that have never heard it before..
This & Jem XD...
Little known fact, after viewing this sequence the Soviet leadership decided to call it quits.
TheLordUrban Mostly likely scared shitless of what GI JOE could do to them.
Yeah, pretty much. Between GI-JOE, Chuck Norris and Rambo, the Americans had the Soviets outgunned so the Soviet leadership gave up the Cold War and let Eastern Europe go.
Putin and Ivan are already a match for all badass American heroes put together in one fight.
They could literally re-release this movie in theaters , have it be only this intro and I would still leave with a smile on my face
Fathom Events did it for the 35th anniversary.
If they re-released it would be a bunch of guys in their 40s and 50s screaming like it's the Superbowl. I'm in
This year is the 35th Anniversary of this movie.
😂😂😂💪🏾
unbelievable

My freedom boner so hard i can fight Isis and North Korea with it.
Still one of the Bad-ass greatest cartoon movie intros of all time.
That opening was badass.
Cobra Cammanders voice is always hilarious.
Steve Rogers watches this intro on a loop.
Steve Rogers IS this intro.
I don't doubt it
Well, G.I Joe was based on Marvel.
Can you blame him?
Hahahahaha.
that intro was better than BOTH live Action movie
It was better than the animated movie too, sadly. They kinda blew their load in the first few minutes, and spent the rest of the rundown wiping everything down awkwardly.
Better then the animated movie that followed this. And all the cartoon. This was clearly the peak
I completely agree!
I personally liked GI Joe Retaliation.
best cartoon song of all time.
This intro is EPIC!
We could use some GI Joe right now.
If only gi joe were anywhere near as popular as it was over thirty years ago....

Wouldn't punching Cobra Commander in the faceplate hurt Duke's hand?
Didn't Cobra Commander appear in an episode of Transformers
@@White_Tiger2169 yes he did.
