a 700$ machine with excessive vibration and heat, immediate dealbreaker for us who sometimes correct for more than 10 hours a day.
They should have worked forced orbital into it. I would have bought one. But hey, finally seeing someone else using dry sanding! I saw a mobile bodywork/headlight guy using K grit from Eagle Abrasives dry years ago. I've been using it ever since. Amazing for knocking out headlight restorations quick and easy. It takes awhile to get used to dry sanding, at least for me it did, but K grit is the real deal. It cuts like lower grit and finishes like a higher grit. I do wish they made a wet/dry variant and offered it up to 5000, though I was told more grits were in the works. Thanks for the video! 👍👌✌
I would of liked a comparison on vertical panels Jason with another machine , as I think it would cause user fatigue such as shoulders, forearms and wrists , with the sheer weight of it, other than that it looks quite a robust machine. 👍👍
Absolutely - I don't understand why the weight wasn't mentioned in the context of vertical panels.
@@gregsullivan7408 I had said this last year, gets uncomfortable and it gets a little hot as well. I had this machine for about 3 weeks last year.
I used it last year, if you want you can throw this into a polisher rotation. For Hoods , trunks lids it’s awesome. Not so much for vertical panels as other machines are lighter and get the same amount of work done ( I do realize moving from 15MM , 21mm on the fly is cool) still the cordless ShineMate 21mm is much more comfortable, less expensive and cutting power is very much present. You can comfortably use the cordless machine at speed 4 doesn’t get too hot and works great with the Udos pads. A side note I like the Udos pads as well. Realistically if this was a 3” machine with sander , rotary & 12mm machine with a lighter form factor it would’ve been a instant must have. Other brands have already established themselves with quality polishers already. The juice isn’t worth the squeeze at this size and weight , in a 3” it’s golden.
You guys are spoiled year’s ago there was only a 30lb rotary and wool pads.🥵
I like this video and personally I would not use this machine in a shop setting. In a mobile van where space is a premium and your only using the machine sparingly this could be used. Meguiars has a three inch backing plate for their da polisher but it is still to bulky for tight areas.
The topic of dry sanding is really interesting to me. I have never dry sanded but I did hear during a Meguiars webinar how dry sanding keeps the temperature down and is really effective. Dry sanding would be a great video that none of the other you tubers have tackled yet.
Thank you for the great video!
Easy choice here. How much sanding are you doing on a daily basis, or defect removal that requires a rotary? If it’s not much there’s no reason to switch all the buffers to this, having a few to work specific problems makes sense.
Great feedback. So nice to see a video that is actually unbiased. Looking forward to a video on the Eagle abrasives too 👍
Eagle Abrasives make pretty awesome stuff. Been using their discs and K grit for awhile. I wish they would make a wet/dry version.
Awesome idea but needs to be refined.. Biggest problems will be the heat and vibration for long term usage those are 2 big issues.
Although it is very versatile, you will have the advantage on horizontal panels only because the weight helps keeping it flat effortlessly. I don't see many times sanding a vehicle with a machine when it is preferable to do it by hand since scratches are sanded in a smaller range instead of sanding the whole panel. To me you're going to have a limited advantage horizontally. In case you have problems, Do they send you a replacement fast while yours is being serviced?
In terms of rotary, it is always great to use but again the weight will be a bummer vertically.
Although they seemed to have designed it with the idea of just having one tool, I don't see it very convenient for mobile Detailing but it is also great so don't have to carry many tools at the same time; and still this is not real because of the weight. The P3 should have been labeled as 21mm, P2 as 15mm, P1 as 12mm.
I remember from years ago, the GEM that was 14 lbs and 16 lbs in weight and this one is 7 lbs, and DA's are 5 and a half lbs. Something great is that it has a trigger locking.
How hot does it get and how do you feel it spreading that heat from vents it has?
Does it require the use of specific pads for this machine?
1st! to reply! hihi
Whar sand paper did you all use
I can definitely see the weight being an issue, but I'd be more concerned about the heat. You really didn't use it that long for so much heat.
Anybody drop one yet?? I'd be interested to see how the quick change system does, or does not get damaged. Sometimes dropping solid metal is much worse than dropping a plastic housing.
Did they fix that issue the 21 mm DA throw lil vibration. Wtf lol❤
If this is a 3” machine everyone buys it, everyone wants a 3” rotary , a 12mm throw and a 3” and smaller sander with extensions. If that cost $700 I’m all over it.
Just saw a 25% discount for the udos the other day..must not be doing very well... I mean it’s a very small amount of people who want that many different throws, and even less that knows how to utilize the different throws...when you have rupes and flex and not a whole lot of people using rotary in the US...I never thought it was going to go super far
i use a light weight rotary often, love the speed and finish, But, if your tool is heavy....!!!! vertical panels ...No way !! plus the head gets hot already... not good! lot of money for that one tool! and if the tool fails~~~~~!!!!!!! back to multiple tools! lol!
Yep. I love a 5" plate on a light compact little rotary. When everything is dialed in it is a dead smooth surgically precise tool. I don't know how guys stay efficient without it.
Now that these are 549 it seems more reasonable
It's 480 at detailed image now
If its getting hit when you use it to test it.... its getting way to hot for a few hours of work.
Had it on a old flex and it was to hot to handle. It would be a no go.
And btw jason the prices are a lot cheaper for the machines.
Had my mini rupes for 200
My 15 mk 2 rupes for 300
And 21 mk1 for 100( second hand)
Rotary for 250.
Sooo that machine is still cheaper but you miss the mini and the hybrid machines.
I dont think i would buy it when its getting that hot.
😲 Where the heck are you buying from that cheap? 🤔
@@jdisdetermined its because i buy the machine not a full detailing package
Kovax is the best.
Rotary! Rotary all day.
1st
And besides that we don't care you just saying 1st.
Not from what I see there's 7 comments above you. Why do idiots like to comment that they are 1st? 🙄 So what as we don't care. Get a life will you.
@@dangermouse3619 🤣🤣🤣🤣I got way ahead. 🤣🤣🤣🤣you definitely care, this is why you are here being judgmental.🤣🤣🤣🤣
