On New Year's Eve, I took a stroll through Aomori city once again. My journey began at the station, where I stumbled upon a delightful art installation, seemingly crafted by some creative kids. Afterward, I made my way to Utou Shrine, where the hustle and bustle of the New Year preparations were in full swing. Next, I ventured to Shotoku Park, which offered an amazing view of the port. I then proceeded to Aoimori Park, where I had spotted many crows on my last visit. To my delight, the park was still bustling with crows. Finally, before heading back to the station, I paid a visit to my neighboring shrines, Hirota and Ryu.

Since moving out of NYC, I miss the feeling of walking through crunchy slush on city blocks, having cold toes & wet socks and the sound of tires rolling on melting roads! Thanks for the memories!

To be very genuine with you, Japan has been truly on my list to visit, but mainly experience the incredible and inspiring culture. Ajigasawa typical weather and snow conditions during the last week of January at the middle elevation of the ski area at 658m, based on historical averages over the previous 15 years: At this time of year the average freezing level (150m) is slightly below the mid altitude of Ajigasawa. Reliably snowy weather is average in Ajigasawa at the end of January.

Have you also been to the tourist information center inside the pyramid-like building? When i went there, a lady from an amber-jewelry store (what the city is apparently known for) was desperately looking for some conversation with me, since no other tourists came by. 😊 Also the ship you can see at 28:35 seems to be a museum.
With respect, those things at the very beginning appear to have gas bottles in the boxes they are mounted on and gas pipes running to them so I am guessing they are lanterns which are lit inside at night? You have some pretty sophisticated kids in Aomori if they are able to do gas fitting!
