Hirosaki is a city in the north of Japan not far from Aomori city capital of Aomori prefecture. It's famous for apples so you will find a lot of apple stuff around including vending machines selling nothing but apple juice.
I walked from Hirosaki station to Yasaka shrine and Saishoin temple where met the New Year. Then I walked further to Hirosaki castle.
Did not find cats but found many snowmen ⛄

What is everyone in line for?
It's a tradition for japanese people to visit a shinto shrine on new year's eve to pray for health & good luck for the coming year. It's called hatsumoude. It's like catholics going to a mass on christmas eve.
