      @@dianamon2727there were more than 3 or 4 ships destroyed. During that one scene of Vader on the bridge, you can see that much of the Rebel fleet is still around Raddus’ flagship. It’s safe to say that all of those were destroyed. Additionally, the Rebel starfighter wing took heavy losses, and that’s the most relevant part to Yavin. They lost easily half of all the fighters sent, including the leader of the Rebel starfighter wing (Blue Leader, I can’t remember his name atm.)

    This was everything that I could've wanted in Star Wars in 8 minutes worth of screen time.
    All grit, no bs. A collective front instead of a collage of meaningless hero single shots.

      I'd put Andor above this in terms of both writing and passion. I was born at the time of the prequels and my dad watched the OT as it came out in theaters; Andor captured both of us spectacularly, and certainly in no way anything else Disney has made with the exception of this movie. I'd even say Andor is better than the OT, heretical though it may be to say. Andor and Rogue One, being Star Wars that doesn't treat or expect it's audience to be a child, is what I and so many others have wanted for so long.

      I guess this scene is based on several real life episode of small Soviet ships ramming US destroyers and cruisers

    • @toddkes5890
      @toddkes5890 8 месяцев назад +6

      The Hammerhead's impact on the Star Destroyer should have been barely noticeable by the Star Destroyer's personnel. A Star Destroyer is ~1600 meters long, a Hammerhead is ~120 meters long, so the Star Destroyer is ~13 times as long. Cubing this means the Star Destroyer is over two thousand times the mass of the Hammerhead. So if the Hammerhead was moving at ~2000 meters per second, the resulting impact will have the Star Destroyer moving at 1 meter/second.
      The scene should have been the Hammerhead impacting with the Star Destroyer crew hearing a thump and maybe a small jolt (gravity still worked, so inertial dampening likely still worked). But as the Hammerhead is in the notch with its engines at full, the bridge crew sees their ship approaching the other Star Destroyer and realize that something is wrong.

      Training is what the body obeys when the mind is still trying to adjust to the situation.
      You are the shield controller for Scarif and suddenly see Hostile forces? Closing the shield gate should be your default reaction.
      For the ISDs, it would have been a mix of getting the shields active ASAP and activating the jammers. Once your location's shields are up you can try to see if a neighbor's shields are not yet up and try to protect them (i.e. someone is doing preventative maintenance on a shield and it can't be brought up for another five minutes). The jammers will cause an attacker's fire to not be as accurate, so instead of their shots slamming into turret rings and disabling weapons those shots will slam into the armor next to the turrets.

    Rogue One had such superior attention to detail versus the Disney Sequels. The camera framing up only Jyn Erso's hand clutching her kyber crystal while they're waiting to hear if their shuttle codes clear or not for example is such a subtle artistic version of JJ's hamfisted 'uh Rey is going to do a Jedi Mind Trick for reasons.'

      I mean, I think they had exactly the mentality Disney did. "Make something that makes heavy use of a very very popular IP and lean on the nostalgia". They just did it more effectively than the sequel Trilogy did. Rogue One's basically an attempt to pack in as many references as they could in a 1970s fashion as possible.
      It's a great movie, but let's not kid ourselves about what it was. It was a cash grab as well.

    Masterful writing and film making.

    the way the battles were created was actually pretty strategic. The X-Wings going to the shield gate to clear the towers of turrets before the bombers did their run.
    Before the Y-wings come in to bomb the disabled star destroyer, there’s two squads of X-wings distracting the Tie fighters chasing them.
    After the destroyer loses power, the admiral says to “call up a hammerhead corvette”, meaning either there’s rebels have more ships waiting or in reserve, showing they’re still strong, or have enough healthy ships to have exactly what he needs.
    The X-wings formations are cohesive and tight, flying in cover for one another, as the Tie fighters are more spread and sporadic, the emphasis on possibly tie fighters having the advantage in numbers as the rebels dominate with pilots.
