Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Space & Aerial Battle of Scarif Supercut

  • I never saw the movie Rogue One, but heard it had a really great space battle set piece. Though much like the Battle of Endor it's broken up throughout the movie. So I made a supercut of the space battle scenes back in 2017 and hey it was well received, then Disney did their thing and yeah, anyway it's back for now. Update: The Appeal was successful and this video will be up for the foreseeable future!

      I guess this scene is based on several real life episode of small Soviet ships ramming US destroyers and cruisers

    • @toddkes5890
      @toddkes5890 4 месяца назад +3

      The Hammerhead's impact on the Star Destroyer should have been barely noticeable by the Star Destroyer's personnel. A Star Destroyer is ~1600 meters long, a Hammerhead is ~120 meters long, so the Star Destroyer is ~13 times as long. Cubing this means the Star Destroyer is over two thousand times the mass of the Hammerhead. So if the Hammerhead was moving at ~2000 meters per second, the resulting impact will have the Star Destroyer moving at 1 meter/second.
      The scene should have been the Hammerhead impacting with the Star Destroyer crew hearing a thump and maybe a small jolt (gravity still worked, so inertial dampening likely still worked). But as the Hammerhead is in the notch with its engines at full, the bridge crew sees their ship approaching the other Star Destroyer and realize that something is wrong.

      It appears to be homage to the “frigates” from Knights of the Old Republic (game / lore). Very similar shape and form.
      I also like the idea that possibly what was once considered the size of a frigate is (or could be) considered merely a corvette at a later time, much as in the modern world how what was long ago considered a cruiser (or light cruiser anyway) weighs about as much as a modern destroyer - as in ships have generally gotten much bigger over time.

    This is one of my favourite Star Wars space battles
    Having the strengths of both factions on display imperial capital ships strength and the superior rebel fighters and bombers and the way the 2 Star destroyers are taken out with the superiority of rebel x-wings and y-wings over their imperial counterparts to disable a star destroyer to open it up do a daring move from a hammerhead corvette was some absolutely inspired direction, writing and cinematography.

    Definitely feels good to see the TIE's being an actual threat once again without needing to have some main character behind the wheel to justify it. While it was still numbers advantage, they actually had legitimate presence in the battle, were rapidly claiming kills even as they lost ships and were posed as a legitimate threat to the Capital ships. Getting to have the pilot cam on the Imperial pilots with that black pilot suit and them being legitimately deadly makes the battle feel so much more tense.

    What many don't get about this, beyond the cool effects and the link to ANH, is that shortly after it;s release, Carrie Fisher joined the stars and for those of us who saw her for the first time back in 1977, and once more, in a fashion, in Rogue One, it was a hard nut to take, Dream on Princess.
