    The graphs are nice and all, but we really should be seeing at least the Galaxy Fold 4 if not also the 3 in each test. Sure it is nice to know how it stacks against "normal" devices, but we really should be seeing how it stacks against the competition. I'm actually really excited to see the 2nd generation attempt at this. I already like how the Pixel feels compared to the Galaxy (especially the form factor for their foldables, the Galaxy Fold always felt too skinny to me whereas the Pixel Fold actually feels like a phone when folded and a tablet when opened which is what I want from a foldable), but I also know Google is the king of first-gen fumbles so I'm cautious about the fold until the next gen.

    I hear everyone complaining about how some apps aren't full screen on the inner display of the pixel fold compared to the galaxy folds. This is because when the galaxy fold opens, it's technically in portrait mode not landscape because of their different aspect ratio. If you orient the fold in landscape position apps like Instagram, don't take up the full screen.

  • @BushTurkeyProduction
    @BushTurkeyProduction Год назад +5

    Galaxy fold 3 owner since it's launch day! Just wanted to say two things: I think the screen durability has a LOT to do with what kind of user you are, how you handle texh devices in general, AND the climate you live in.
    Foldables have an issue with the plastic inner screen protector becoming stuff in cold conditions, thus leading to bubbles, weird sounds, and I've read of folks who couldn't even open their galaxy folds in our right frigid temps because the screen protector essentially froze.
    BUT if you're like me, live somewhere where it's warm to hot all year round - it's a none issue. I know a handful of other foldable users in my area and all of them have had zero screen issues when it comes to lifting or cracking - we've all been foldable owners for over two year'ish now.
    The tech is really developing. I feel like the jump from the fold 2 to 3 was the biggest yet. Fold 4 was a nothing upgrade, and the Fold 5 feels like it could be the same.... Very tempted to jump to the pixel fold for a year until the Fold 6 comes out.

  • @chrisdpratt
    @chrisdpratt Год назад +4

    Regarding apps like Instagram not filling the screen, this is because they arent optimized for anything other than phones. Samsung doesn't actually get a win here. The difference is that the Galaxy Fold opens in a portrait orientation, while the Pixel Fold opens in landscape. If you rotate the Pixel Fold to portrait, the app looks exactly the same as it does on the Galaxy, while if you rotate the Galaxy to landscape, it looks like the default for the Pixel.

    I had a new pixel fold for one day. I would not charge with a 45w charger or wireless. I let it sit for 7 hrs and it went from 46% down to 36%. All before starting up the phone. I took it back to Tmobile, where the floor model had the same problem. The next day, a different Tmobile store let me know they had 3 new ones in stock. That fold started with 70% charge and in 30 minutes, I had 100% battery! I really like it. It is just a tad larger and taller than the iPhone 13 mini and the front screen is as wide as an iPhone pro max 13. I have average size hands and it fits very well.

    In the heart of the tech world, a new challenger emerged on the horizon. The Google Pixel Fold, a device that dared to challenge the reigning champion, Samsung, in the realm of folding phones. The battlefield was set, the audience of tech enthusiasts from around the globe watched with bated breath, and the herald of this epic clash was none other than ShortCircuit.
    The Pixel Fold was a sight to behold. Its sleek exterior, completely flat when closed, was unlike any other. It was a testament to Google's attention to detail, ensuring that the phone was not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing. The phone's stout form, thicker than the taller candy bar shape of the Fold 4, gave it a unique appeal. It was as if a modern smartphone had been fused with the nostalgic charm of a DS.
    The phone's features were equally impressive. The volume rocker and power button doubled as a fingerprint scanner, a clever design choice that showcased Google's innovative spirit. The speaker grille, the cutout for millimeter wave 5G, and the multiple microphone holes were all neatly arranged, each serving a specific purpose in the grand scheme of the phone's design.
    But the true marvel was the phone's hinge. This multi-alloy polished hinge was the backbone of the Pixel Fold, the component that allowed the phone to transform from a compact device to a larger, more immersive screen. It was a testament to Google's engineering prowess, a symbol of the technological advancements that made the Pixel Fold possible.
    The phone was put to the test, its features scrutinized under the discerning eye of ShortCircuit. The fingerprint scanner, the software, the speakers, the display, and the camera were all put through their paces. Each feature was evaluated, its strengths and weaknesses laid bare for all to see.
    But the true test was in the lab results. The Pixel Fold was compared to the Fold 4, its performance measured against the reigning champion. It was a clash of titans, a battle that would determine the future of folding phones.
    As the dust settled, it was clear that the Pixel Fold was a formidable contender. It had its strengths and weaknesses, but it held its own against the Fold 4. It was a testament to Google's determination to carve a niche for itself in the realm of folding phones.
    And so, the epic saga of the Google Pixel Fold unfolded. It was a journey of innovation and determination, a story of a device that dared to challenge the status quo. As the audience applauded the performance of the Pixel Fold, they were left with a sense of awe and anticipation. The battle had ended, but the journey of the Pixel Fold was just beginning. Here's to the next chapter in the epic saga of folding phones!

    For those looking to buy this phone, its a great phone. I have used Z fold 4 and this seems to be more practical when it comes to the usability of the outer screen. However, you have to be careful with the inner screen because the dust particle may get stuck along the hinge alloy and then when you unfold it, they would get pushed inside resulting in dead pixels/screen blackout. It happened with me but I had warranty so I got it replaced. Since then I use a case which covers the hinge as well. VRS design has those cases. I highly recommend them as I have been using the case on my pixel fold for the past one month and never had any issues. I had many other issues including wireless charging not working when I got it initially. The replacement pixel fold that they sent me is working great with no issues thus far..

      Interestingly, I'm the exact opposite, I much prefer the Samsung OneUI compared to any other Android UI, including Pixel. Maybe it's because I had multiple Nokia Symbian S60 smartphones, then the Nokia N9 with MeeGo Harmattan and SwipeUI and then went to BlackBerry 10...I still miss my N9 and Passport. OneUI reminds me so much of SwipeUI and BB10, which is why I prefer it to anything else. Just goes to show you how far ahead Nokia and BB actually were, they knew where the market was going in terms of UI/UX, they were simultaneously 18-24 months too late to market and 7 or 8 years too early to market with MeeGo and BB10 respectively. Might have had a 3 or 4 mobile OS options today if both could have given their huge user base modern mobile operating systems just a little bit earlier. Competition is a good thing!

    The Fold 4 is also a great DS emulator.
    It also has the added benefit of being slightly long, so if you have to use the virtual buttons there's plenty of room remaining for the dual screens.
    Although I just hide the buttons and attach one of the USB-C controller thingies from Amazon. (I use the Gamesir, but any should work. I went with physical connector to eliminate lag, which was pretty significant on bluetooth devices for Nvidia Geforce Now. You just have to pick the model that has the connector on the left side of the controller instead of the right, or your screen will fold downward instead of upward, which can be hard to get used to and awkward to hold.)
    edit: What the fuck happened to that Fold?? I've had my 4 for a year as well and it looks *nothing* like that. I've even dropped mine and dented my hinge, and my Fold 4 looks like it just came out of the box in comparison to that one. The Labs may take accurate readings, but you guys really have to work on how you process and present your data. Measuring charging by % is not good because those phones don't all have the same battery size and layout, so you have to normalize for battery capacity. In theory, all those phones should be charging at the same rate, so you're measuring how well their fast charging algorithm works. The Fold and Zenphone are practically the same for fast charging for an hour. The Xperia is the outlier and the best phone in this metric, and the one-hour chart at 65W doesn't show it. 77% for the Pixel fold is 3,712mAh, meanwhile the Zenfone at 87% is 3,741mAh, which is close enough. At 86%, the Xperia is at 4,300mAh. We can see that the Zenphone and the Fold charge at the same rate, both much slower than the Xperia.
    The same logic applies to the charging time, lower isn't necessarily better, and even where it is, the way it is presented is misleading. The Zenphone has a charge rate of 53.75mAh/m, the Fold has a charge rate of 50.22mAh/m, and the Xperia has a charging rate of 53.76mAh/m. We can clearly see that the Xperia and Zenphone have the same charge rate, but the Xperia takes more time because its battery is 16% larger, which also happens to be the difference between 93 minutes and 80 minutes.

    No offense to this presenter, but I seriously think Linus should have been the one to review this first given his direct experience with folding phones. He most likely would have immediately brought up during the Fold 4 comparison that you can TAKE OFF THE SCREEN PROTECTOR AND REPLACE IT. The screen protector on the Fold 4 is like any other - it will get dirty and nasty over time and eventually needs to be replaced. The only difference however is once it gets incredibly dirty the adhesive gives up at the hinge points which immediately tells you it's time to replace it. Whoever was using that Fold CLEARLY never even thought of replaced it which is NOT the fault of the phone yet this review made it seem like the quality of that inner screen was "just what happens to these phone" which is absolutely incorrect. That's also probably a good reason why the screen won't open as flat anymore since the lifted portion of the protector acts against the hinge and why it sounds nasty to close. It's not because of the phone - it's blatant negligence of the owner.
    I really hope he revisits this himself to give this kind of review justice.
