      Man I can definitely agree with you in the fear part. I went to college straight out of high school and got a bachelors degree in something my heart was just not in. Since then I have decided to start over and go to welding school. A lot of people around me told me I was dumb and that I was making a mistake. But I had to follow my gut and with the support of my fiancé I am on my way to do something that I love. I am excited to go to welding class everyday day. Every time I strike that arc I make sure to that I am trying to get better. One day i wish to break out like you man. You're a real inspiration. Keep busting out them vids!

    Your videos are awesome. This one hit home. I spent every dime I had putting a rig together and taught myself to weld downhill while I’ve been working as a millwright. Scared to death brother 😂😂 spending my last few bucks driving 13 hours to Dickinson next week. Thanks for the good content and I hope I can tell you that you helped a new guy break out burning pipe.

    I've a question for you, Jacob. Okay, I'm 25 and I'm about to try to breakout welding for the company I've been a helper for for 7 1/2 years. I've already passed two welding tests, but I have not been paid as a welder on a job yet. This company is notorious for paying under the going rate for welders, laborers, helpers, etc. Our welders make $3800- $4200 a week plus a fuel card. I believe they are going to try to pay me $3500/week with no fuel card because it's my first welding job. I don't believe that's right/fair because the only reason they want to pay me that is because they know me and know I'm green (as a welder). I know I could go to another company and make $4500/week or more right now! My father is the welding foreman for this company and I would definitely prefer to breakout under him. It's not really the money that upsets me as it is the principal of it. I just know if it was any welder they didn't know, green or not, they would pay the full rate, no questions asked. I've sacrificed so much time and money rigging up and practicing my rear off every chance I got, I don't know if I should stand up for myself or just take the money. What do you think???

    To give up or not try because of fear or anxiety is failure . I would rather drive 24 hours shaking in my boots miss my test then not to even try . Because to not succeed in a goal is not failure it Is a stepping stone of life . Like you said it builds confidence . Builds self esteem and you believe in your self and what you can do . I've always tried my best and that's all you can do . Don't worry about what others can do . But what you can do and get the knowledge from others that makes you a better tradesman , welder bad person !! Never give up and fear and anxiety are something that happens when someone cares or wants to do goof . It's good to have that and keep you on your toes !!

    Thinking about breaking out, where & how to u find the pipe to practice on welding & doing the branch test? Im going on 47 here, been a welder since 15 & the manufacturing jobs here around Pittsburgh are hard to find & dont pay all that well. I love your videos & feel inspired. Money is holding me back ,Need to buy bevel cutters n such. Have a machine & truck already to start. Keep up the videos, i enjoy them Thank You

      Jeremy Kilo what's up. Pipe you can always go to yards and just see if they would give you scraps I used to do that a lot when I didn't have much money. Another thing is buying it. It it gets pretty high dollar though that way. I used to weld old tire rims lol!! Anything that was circular I was trying to weld it lol!! Hope that helps. And thank you for the comments keeps me making these videos.

    Great videos Jacob keep up the good work I work in the refinerys and I see them use more tig then stick what's the difference in pipeline and refinery

    • @JacobSchofield
      @JacobSchofield  7 лет назад

      Freddy Gutierrez I ain't sure man I would guess the pressure maybe or like when I weld in food plants and what not we use straight tig. I believe it's to keep things cleaner to not contaminate and through metal pieces or sparks in guessing. I just do the procedure they tell me to do lol. If you find out let me know.

    I use the internet as tool and have just started watching how to videos. I game across videos that catch my eye like yours. I'm in Mechanical Integrity and your name is everything. I heard your name from work and when I saw your name was like I wonder Schofield is that the same hand or link-In. I might be replying / commenting on the video. When you said these guy want to entertain them self than use it to network with the people in the know and when your looking for people it works both ways.

    Hey man I just subscribed and like your videos. I'm 24 and starting at my community college next semester. I just bought a little Hobart stickmate xl to practice at home been thinking about it for a year now and going for it. I even quit my full time job and got a part time job while I go to school. Interested in pipeline welding and want to own my own rig one day. Ok so my plan is to actually learn to weld at school and practice as much at home as possible. Don't have the money to buy my own truck and welder at first so I was going to try and get a welder helper job at first to save and buy my own rig plus kind of learn how everything works in the pipeline world. After about a year I should have enough to buy my own rig and start testing. Just wanted to see if that sounds like a good plan or a little input would be much appreciated.

      Martin Ollis dude that's perfect man you will probably be farther ahead then I was when I broke out. I like the idea of going to school and being a helper both of them will teach you different things. Keep it up and thanks for watching. If you stay focused on becoming the welder you will go far.

    Looking to get started in the oilfield. Do you know anyone I could talk to to get out in my truck. I know a few guys but none that care to help a fellow get started. Been welding 12 years and tired of plant work still working hard regardless. Just wanting to get started on pipeline.

    Good stuff man, keep it up !I found a little trick for those shaky nerves.. Try Wim Hof breathing method. Just took a test Friday and was pretty steady! Usually I'm freaking out welding at 70% of my capability during a test but now I do the breathing when I get nervous and I would say I was about 95%Anyway hope that helps For any guys going to test for the first time.
    PS a good video would be some tricks you use for your branch test.Or just a basic how to.

      upload a custom photo from your computer using the youtube editor. If your videos are on your computer you can usually save a still shot from your video. Upload that as your custom thumbnail. Has to be less than 2MB in size.
