My grandma made chicken and dumplings like this. She cooked like you do. “Don’t worry about it, it”ll be fine”. She cooked so much she didn’t even measure. Just eyeballed it. Thank you so much for this!

You saved me Mrs Rita. I kept having my dumplings turn out flat tasting no matter how much salt I put in the broth. I forgot that my Mom always used some of the broth for her dumplings. I bet mine turn out right now that I caught that little tip. Thank you!

God bless you girl !! there is not many of you left, thank you so much for sharing this with us. I hope your husband appreciates you. That is a mountain of love and the best of the best, and that is just lunch.
My husband’s family is from DE and they do the same kind of “dumplins”. Like slick noodles as you mentioned. They don’t add eggs and many don’t use baking powder either. Loved watching you bang that all out f-a-s-t! Would love to be right in your kitchen to learn from you. Love that bowl!
This is how I make my chicken and dumplings, but like a couple of ya'll, I do not add eggs or the baking powder and I let my broth cool some before I roll them out. Can someone please tell me the purpose of adding the eggs and baking soda? I may have to try it! But you know when you've been cooking for 45+ yrs, it's hard to change- "If it ain't broke, you don't fix it!" I LOVE her style though, comfortable in her own kitchen, Mrs. Rita, you are Beautiful just as you are!! Best of Health and Happiness to you and your husband/family💕 #borncountrystillcountryloves1husb♡4~
I'm from Maryland Delaware line, mom made them without the egg and baking powder. Yup they are thin slippery dumplings. I ain't got it quite right yet but will. Gonna try this lady's recipe to see how they turn out.
@@margaretstokely9016in Canada too... well, my part of it anyways. I've always preferred sliders to those fluffy, sometimes undercooked dumplings lol. I went looking on RUclips for chicken and sliders and all I got was mini chicken sandwiches lol. Modern technology and people sheesh! 😂
Homemade Chicken and Dumplings was the first thing my Gramama taught me how to cook down home in Charleston, S.C. You sounded like her too ❤️ Thanks for the memories and for reminding me of this dish! I think I'm gunna make it this week. LORD GOD bless you & your family Miss Rita 😊
These look just like my mother’s dumplings. Have been looking for a recipe like this. I remember that she used chicken broth and not milk in her dumplings. Thank you I will have to make these.
Wow! There is so many different ways to make dumplings! Some are roundish and some are noodle type! My great Grandma made them with a lil lard ( depression days) flour, salt and water. So many different ways- made with love- and all delicious I bet!!
I thought it was just me and maybe it was dented by accident but it is a heart ❤️ awe how cute. She makes me missy my Granny she used to make the best food especially loved helping her by breaking up the dumplings and putting in the pot😊
Ms Rita you are just as down to Earth on here as you are on Facebook. I only found out about your you tube channel tonight after I had gone to bed. I got out of bed and now at 2:25 a.m. I have already watched a bunch of your videos. I feel like I am right there in the kitchen with you and I do believe I will be making my honey a pot of chicken and dumplins tomorrow!
She’s done this a time or two…yum! my momma, grandparents and great grandparents have passed. I really needed to see this, I miss them so much. She’s a good dose of what ails you. I’ll be doin it this way next time. God bless❤️🙏🏼❤️
She’s a riot got the job done!! She makes it look so simple I’ve always tried to make dumplings and they fell apart I’m gonna try these I think the secret is not to stir to often😂😂😂I thoroughly enjoyed this video!!!
I make mine the same way, but I do roll my dough out in advance and allow to air dry before adding to my broth, and I use warm broth but I do add a large can of Cream of chicken once I have my both for the dumplings....makes it so creamy good. I roll mine really thin also. love yours also, with a thin broth. Thanks for sharing.
Yes! My Mawmaw, Granny, and Mama all made dumpins like this: thin and squared, chewy and slick. I haven't seen a recipe that makes them the way they did until now. Thank you! Going to make some chicken n dumplins soon, and enjoy the childhood memories!
Your dumplings really look good. Kids coming home school would love to dive into that meal. I will try your recipe, I usually make the other, but yours looks delicious. Thank you, Rita.
I was raised on a farm and grew up on all homemade cooking and baking. I love this lady. My grammy Faye taught me how to make pies, bread, best cooks are the people back in the day. 😍 I love the old fashioned life style. Grew up packed water from spring house, for everything. Good best life ever. I miss my childhood days. Cook stove, furnace. Yep I love this lady. Reminds me of ny grammy. 😍 She is a blessing. May the Lord bless you always. ❤❤
Rita, I love your style! You get the job done without a lot of fancy. The dumplings you make are what we call "slickers" back here in the mountains, and a lot of folks make them that way. I prefer my dumplings to be egg-sized and fluffy in the middle, but I've been known to enjoy a plate full of slickers every now and then. Thanks for making the video!
Thank you so much for teaching me to do this how my grandmother used to do. Great simple and to the point video! Hope you and your family are well and healthy, God Bless!
Such a sweet lady you always see in tv movies, but not in real life. With the world going to sh*t, I wish there were more of this. Can't wait to try this recipe & thanks for sharing.
I can tell you enjoy cooking for your family. You remind me of when I was a little girl watching my grandmothers cooking. I loved this video. May the Lord bless you and your family!!!
Perfect dumplings! I love the flat chewy dumplings like my granny and my mom used to make and this is exactly how they made them except they used broth and milk in the dumpling dough. So glad I found Ms. Rita - she makes me think of my childhood home.
I enjoyed watching! Reminds me of my mom and her people. Just ole country Cooks! We make dumplings the way you do... Use chicken broth instead of milk, but, I'd say we use a little more baking powder, and I sprinkle a lot of the extra flour on top of my dumplings, and I push the dumplings down instead of stir, and that broth thickens with that sprinkling of flour.
Nothing's better than country food from beautiful country woman. Just like the ones I used to eat. My mother still makes them and it's always food for the soul
This is the best version of true "southern" dumplings I've ever made! One note, the first time I made it, I kneaded the dough too much and they were a little bit tough. Knead them exactly like Rita does in the video, no more. :)
My grandma would make this without egg and baking soda..everything else the same. We grew up with this and called it poppy.. Everyone in my family still make it today. It's been pasted down now 4 generations. Mmm good. I smother mine with butter salt and pepper we eat it on its own in a big bowl.
Makes me remember my grandmother. Her father's people were Pennsylvania Dutch and she cooked a lot in that style. The best thin cut noodles. Pastry! She made a potato salad with a cooked sweet and sour dressing. I make it, too. I'm making chicken and dumplings today, but cheating with Bisquick drop dumplings.
Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment, I went to your channel. Your video of "Rank Stranger" had me crying...How things change as I grow older.
I would love to have a video of my mamaw making dumplings (or anything else). This one is the next best thing. Been making dumplings myself for years for my hubby-he likes them very thin and not poofy so I don’t use eggs or powder but otherwise this video is exactly how my mamaw did it. Watching her confidence in the kitchen brought back memories of watching my mamaw. Thank you!
My mom used to make those every Christmas and Thanksgiving so thank you so much for making this post cuz my mom isn't around anymore to ask her how did she make them
Videos like these are so much more valuable because rather than see a perfect recipe from start to finish, you get to see how to flow through the slight imperfections that arise. The heart shaped pot seals the deal subbed!
I helped my grandma cooking.when I was 6.she learned me how to make chicken and dumplings.she makes them the same way you do.i watched your video making me want some I'll cook a pot tomorrow
My mom made what she called slickers, no egg, no BP, just broth, flour and salt. Such a good meal from so few ingredients. Very very similar to what this sweet lady made.❤️
I'm almost 70 years old, and I remember my Mother having a bowl exactly like yours. I still use many of her pans and utensils. But the mixing bowl was lost. I'd love to have it now.
I can hear her talk all day..she is comforting, easy to follow and love, love, love her accent, in the way she enunciates her words. She reminds me of a silver screen classic actress, but I can't put my finger on who!?☺Rita made dumplings easy and swift....thank you for sharing.
This is how my grandma taught me to make them, making some today and wanted a reminder, as grandma passed a few years ago. This helped me remember her, and helped to ensure I make some amazing food tonight. :) Thanks
I have been making dumplings for years, taught to me from my Mama and Grandma. use the same bowl, too. LOL So many younger cook make dumplings so differently now. Glad to see the old ways are not lost. Keep up the good work!!

Lord Thank You for this Lady ! And Thank You Rita's Roost , God Bless ..
Thank you for explaining what you’re doing and what you’re thinking all the way through! So helpful. You seem like a lovely person too ❤️
Best dumpling recipe I've tried. Took me back to my childhood to my grandma's house!
Oh gosh.... I love her! She's a treasure. ♥️
I love this! This country girl grew up in the mountains and coal camps of Kentucky This is how I was taught...one of the ways. Thank you so much
I would love to have a video of my mamaw making dumplings (or anything else). This one is the next best thing. Been making dumplings myself for years for my hubby-he likes them very thin and not poofy so I don’t use eggs or powder but otherwise this video is exactly how my mamaw did it. Watching her confidence in the kitchen brought back memories of watching my mamaw. Thank you!
God Bless you and yours. My mother and grandmother cooked just like you do. Special memories of the heart.
Loved your take on the dumplings. You made me smile today. TY
Good old fashion cooking!! I love it!! Reminds me of my late Grandmother and Mother. This is REAL cooking
Just found this video. She's a sweetheart. I've been looking for this recipe. Thank you, Miss Rita!
That heart shaped pot is friggin awesome...My Grandma used to make these with pork and had to drop them in slow. She called it drop pot pie.
It is not heart shaped, It should be, I cook with love. but its just one side of a large pot that has a pour spout.
My mom made what she called slickers, no egg, no BP, just broth, flour and salt. Such a good meal from so few ingredients. Very very similar to what this sweet lady made.❤️
Love u videos eaves Corinth ms
I'm almost 70 years old, and I remember my Mother having a bowl exactly like yours. I still use many of her pans and utensils. But the mixing bowl was lost. I'd love to have it now.
I love those Texas Ware bowls also ! I have several and they get used every day….I am enjoying your videos. Thanks!
I love the heart shaped pot! This looks like my grandmas recipe!
Thank you I was thinking I was imagining things❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful. Your a great teacher and we're blessed to be able to see you make these wonderful dumplings. Thank you for the recipe💕
:) Thanks
We have that same bowl and have had it for years. Looks delicious. Blessings ❤️
My mama has one too!
She’s pretty cool fast and get it done love it

It’s just like watching a mama or a gramma . It makes you feel warm & cozy.
Reminds me so much of my mother's homemade chicken and egg noodles, she used more eggs. She rolled them out the exact same way. Yours looks delicious!
