My family is from Tennessee. My grandmother put a roasting hen in a big pan with salt, pepper and an onion. Put water half way up. Baked for an hour @350. She took broth out and got it cold. She took chicken out of pan and had the broth simmering. She took 5 cups flour and cold chicken broth, salt, pepper and made her dough. Rolled put in pot with lid on 20 minutes and off 20 minutes. Chicken on the side...yummy!
This is how I make mine too. My family loves them. I add bay leaves and garlic, lots of black pepper.
I love that her cooking is simple, not fancy things nobody really fixes.

You seem to be watching Paula even though you call her names..
Get a life!
I've been a Paula Deen fan for years. In 2005 my daughter went to Savannah to go to college at SCAD. I was thrilled that I'd finally get to eat at Lady & Sons. We tried to go each time I'd go down to bring her home at the end of each year. It was wonderful!! She even stood in line at the bookstore in one of the malls to get me a signed cookbook. She said both of your boys and Michael were there too. You have so many wonderful recipes: one thing I loved to make was your Nutty Orange Coffee Cake. That was as beautiful to look at as it was to eat!! So glad I found you on RUclips. Love you Ms Paula!!❤
One thing I love about Miss Paula, she doesn't waste anything left in the bowl. That's how I was taught by my Grandmother. Scrape it all from the bowl!
Yes!!! I've always hated the cooks that leave a bunch of mix in the bowl. Love that she scrapes it clean.
Miss Paula I’ve been watching your quarantine shows and I just came upon this with your chicken and dumplings there’s only one problem we cannot find Paula Deen biscuit mix in Canada so is there a recipe that you could put out there without using your biscuit mix
@@janetralph68514 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoon sugar
2.tablespoon baking powder
2 teaspoon salt
This should be excatly what is in the box mix. I looked and found her biscuit recipe and just copied and edited out the milk and butter( those are not in the dry mix) I didn't think you needed those as they are specific for making biscuits. But if you want the recipe for making her biscuits you can google paula Deen biscuits recipe. Hope this helps you. 💝
Maybe you love her racism too?

Mrs. Paula Deen, it's so comforting to hear your voice! You were the mom of Food Network. It definitely isn't the same without you, but I'm so glad you're here on RUclips!! I can't believe I never checked!!
love your "mater" pie!!!

maybe dumplings for super bowl!!

Paula and Emeril taught me how to cook. CANNOT thank either of them enough. You used to learn stuff on FN. Now you watch competition garbage. Feel bad for young families today. Might as well buy a Betty Crocker cookbook.
@@jaredbaratono897 Good point, there aren't as much "teachers" on FN anymore.
My favorite winter dish. My Aunt Earlene was the best dumpling maker in three generations of my family. I was fortunate to stand at the stove and observe her technique many times. Thank you for being here!
It's summertime in south Texas and I don't care. I'm making it right NOW. Lol. Have a blessed day darlin'.

I used can biscuits quartered still was a winner
Hey Y'all , can't miss out the chicken and dumplin's Y'all. Also cant forget some booter and oil y'all
That's what we use. Just as good. Saves time!
My mom made them with beef stew too. I always thought you were supposed to leave the lid on too but the online recipe from biquisk said to cook uncovered for ten minutes.
Paula, I didn't know you had a site on RUclips but I'm so happy to see you again. I'm going to follow you and try to make some of your incredible dishes. You're a wonderful lady and I have stood behind you forever, God bless you.

I like to use a pizza roller to cut my dumplings! Paula literally got me through Covid lock downs (I’m in SF, we locked down first and opened last) and these videos were the only thing that gave me joy. I just moved away from my family in AZ, my nephew in LA was just born and I didn’t see my family for two years. Everyone in the Bay Area was scared of each other, my business shut down and was devastated, I got a 50% salary decrease because of the hospitality industry devastation, churches were forced to close, and absolutely no fellowship. Paula, I didn’t know if I would emotionally make it. Your holiday shows always made me feel like home and god bless you for giving us these videos. I come back to watch them and cook with them all the time and I just want to say God Bless you. You didn’t have to do these and you have no idea what you did for people. You saved my heart from horrible isolation. All my love and prayers to you.
Salted butter was good enough for my mother and grandmothers, so it's good enough for me, too. Thanks, Paula.
How did they make them using salted butter?
Amen

@@marilynread364 that would be "smart alec"
@Melach of the earth more than likely gone to meet their maker after a long and happy life. Duhhhh...🙄🙄🙄🙄🤷♀️but that would have nothing to do with 'salted butter'🤦♀️
So I'm from Pennsylvania and we call are chicken n dumplings potpie. I would watch my grandma and mom make potpie as a kid and couldn't wait to learn how to do it myself. I cook a chicken with 2 boxes of chicken stock in my insta pot after it's done I tear it apart and put the broth and chicken in a huge stock pot. Next I peal n slice potatoes and set aside then start on the dough. The ingredients I use is flour, crisco and cold water. I use about 3 cups of flour 3 table spoons of crisco and 1 cup of cold water. The flour and crisco I mix with my hands to make sure it's blended well then slowly pour water. I flour my counters and roll the dough out and then cut into squares. I bring the chicken n stock to a boil and start with 1layer of potatoes then 1layer of dough. I continue until everything is in the pot n let it cook for about 45 mins. It is very time consuming and my kitchen is a mess but it taste so good and is worth it!
My mom and I are from S.E. North Carolina. She rolled out and made "dumplings" like this as well. But she always called it "Chicken and Pastry". So beautiful! Very comforting dinner to me 😁!!!💖

Hey Paula, I just wanted to holler at you and tell you we still love you and it's good to see you doing well!
To this day we call you "oh momma" cause when my youngest son was little he loved you so much he'd get excited waiting for you to come on tv & when you'd feed ppl, so often they'd say "mmm... OH MAMA that's good! Mmm"!! No lie he'd cry himself to sleep if he didn't get to see oh momma every day. 💗💔💗
I always told him we'd write you a letter but bad ol momma (me) never did.
He's 15 now & everyyyy once in awhile he asks me if I remember you as though you're a long lost family member.... 😞
I have no idea whether or not you read these comments but if you do I hope you see mine and know how much you're loved & admired by ppl you don't even know.
You helped us through a lot of tough times too. My middle son is 18 & your stories you shared when your boys were on the show about not having money for a Christmas tree and things like that; (teary eyed) you just really helped us know we weren't alone & it wouldn't be like this forever.
Anyway. We love you Paula. Kiss those boys & that hubby for me lol cause yea they feel like family too.

I've said this before and here I go again. I have tried to find or duplicate my grandmother's incredible recipes before and this one is the same. Every recipe used those dry biscuit style dumplings but these are what I remember!! Thanks again!
My Gran made me chicken and dumplings my whole life. When I first started watching you Paula it was because if I closed my eyes I could swear my gran was talking to me. She has be gone 3 years now but tonight we are having dumplings. I remember when she found the frozen dumplings at the store also. She was so excited because she to used the ice water to make hers. She said they were "sorry" dumplings but used them anyways. I miss her so much. Thank you for for your southern hospitality it brings her back to me every time

When I do my chicken and dumplings I cook my chicken the same way she does and as it's boiling I chop up my chicken but I saved the breast and use all the other meat in the chicken and dumplings the breast and make into a chicken salad but as far as the dumplings go I've always used Bisquick and their dumpling recipe it's awesome and so so easy
My family uses grands butter biscuits. We fight over the dumplings.
It's my signature go to. We're from Charleston SC. We cook a pot of rice and then decide what we're going to make with it! Always serve this over rice. I use your recipe for grandma Paula 's sour cream pound cake. Love your show sweet Southern lady👸of Savanah!

How’re you and your wonderful family doing?
Paula I love your cooking may god bless u and it's so good to see u healthy and still cooking Amen. We appreciate you ❤️
My mom’s family is from the south, Arkansas & Georgia, but I didn’t grow up eating chicken n’dumplins!! I just made up my own over 25 yrs ago. Served it to my beau a few yrs ago, he took one bite, looked up & said, sorry mom, but it’s better than yours!! I was in a woman’s shelter a couple yrs before that & some of us got together in the double kitchen, made meatloaf, mashed taters & all the fixings on a Sat., next day I made 2 pots of chicken n’dumplins...they were gone in nothing flat. One of the gals would always just walk through & really keep to herself, after eating by herself what was made Sat & she got a bowl of this on Sun., she came & introduced herself to me to say thank you!! I think she had southern roots like me, she was African American, & she told me after eating my cooking, she said it tasted like home. I thought that was one of the best compliments someone can get on their cooking.
Oh your story really TOUCHED my heart!! You made her feel at home in a difficult situation! ❤❤ God Bless!

Good morning Paula !!!! 🌸💗🌸
You are such an inspiratin for me.
In these times I got so much work to do and nobody there for help.
I got 2 gardens here, a small one and an bigger one.
We had a lot of rain in this June, so it happened, that I did not drive to the bigger garden, which is about 10,5 miles from where I live and where the smaler garden is.
Yesterday, we had hot, hot weather here, I desided to drive to the bigger garden.
Arriving there I could allready see when unlocking the garden gate, that there is a lot of work to do.
Eveything grew damatically.
Espacially the blackberry bushes have grown a lot, over and over full of flowers and bees that were in their pollination work. there is a rich harvest to expect.
But unfortunately I have to cut back a large part because the branches overgrow the paths.
There were also a few ticks hauting me, so I couldn't start working because I wasn't dressed properly, was only in a light summer dress and didn't have a repellent with me.
The meadow too had grown up and needs to be mowed and the hedges urgently need a pruning.
A violent thunderstorm started and I headed back to my house 10.5 miles away.
In the evening I got the feeling that I can never do it alone.
Today it is raining again, I hope it will stop later.
So I took my macbook with my morning coffee and checked what Paula Deen was sending to cheer me up a little.
Paula, you mentioned your restaurants and I thought it was so huge what you started alone and what you have achieved so far.
You gave me a big boost of inspiration and I think I will get my garden back in shape, whether alone or not and despite ticks and bees.
I only discovered your videos in youtube during the quarantine period. and I'm so glad you cheered me up so much and your positive manner gave me a lot of strength.
Thank you Paula Deen you are an inspiration for all the women who have to master their lives out there.
You showed us that you can build a life even as a woman alone and that help comes with success.
I wish you and your team a wonderful day and please everyone stays healthy and stays spared the virus !!!

Hi Paula, Wow your Chicken & Dumplings look delicious. I make my grandmas recipe, her recipe has carrots in it to. Her dumplings are the big fluffy dumplings that take like 10 to15 mins to cook. I have never rolled out dumplings, but I am so excited to make this recipe!!! I have never had a dumpling like this. Thank you for sharing your recipe. I will be making your recipe this week!! You & Mike should have a bakeoff for the best chicken & dumpling dish LOL!! Happy Sunday, God Bless & Take care☺🍗💝
My grandmother made the big fluffy drop dumpling, too. But, I don't have the recipe for it ! Do you?
If so, would you share it with me? I've looked for it all my life and am 62 yrs. old and miss them !!!
@Romaine Jayne
Same as Paula makes them but dont roll them out, just take a big spoon and drop them right out of the dumpling mixture bowl. Cook them for 10 to 15 mins before adding chicken back in. Drop Dumplings are wayyy better too..
@@troyivan9301 Thats how we always had them too. My mom would make a beef stew, leaving the liquid a little thin. Then she would drop spoon fulls of biscuit dough in the pot, put cover on and simmer for about 10-15 minutes. The flour from the dough would automatically thicken the liquid into a gravy texture. We would always have a small plate next to the bowls to but our BIG fluffy dumplings on and smother them with butter after splitting them open. I would use my spoon to scoop a bit of biscuit off the plate and then into the stew for a little bit of meat, veggie and gravy. I sometimes buy a can of good quality vegetable beef or chicken and vegetable soup and mix a few spoonfuls of biscuit mix in a little bowl to make myself a couple dumplings for a single serve dinner. Just have to keep in mind they double in side!LOL!
Love that stock pot -- my grandma had one like that -- I wish I had it today! looks delicious....making me hungry

It is broth, actually. Mixed with processed chicken base and a can of soup. Far from 'pure stock' is what i meant :)

As a born/raised southerner (Charleston, SC), I cringe that others think we say the word "y'all" in every sentence, or pronounce the word boil as "ball," oil as "all," etc., etc. As I stated, I've lived in Charleston all of my 50 years on earth and don't know a soul around here who talks with that accent. It's obviously from some rural part of Georgia (where she was raised). HOWEVER, all that superficial stuff aside, I think she is a good person, a great southern cook and you have to give her credit, she is NOT pretentious - doesn't even try to be. She is what she is, and she's lived the American dream with her success story. Summary: I like and actually enjoy her in spite of the above (as do many others, obviously). I know the "y'all" thing is her trademark, but she should really slow it down a bit. Again, as a lifelong proud southerner, I don't know ANYONE who uses ''y'all" as often as she. A little overdone. It would be the equivalent to someone from the Bronx, NY, saying "you'z Guyz" in EVERY, single sentence.
Kiko Man no I’m from South Ga & she talks just like the rest of us!
@@okeekonokee5282 I live in NC and grew up in VA and ya'll is a central word in my vocabulary. I don't know a true Southerner who doesn't use it probably excessively. It's just the way we talk here in the South. It is too bad you are so hypercritical.....Paula is a lot of fun and you are missing out on the fun of watching Paula as who she is. Alton Brown might suit your taste better.
I dont think its confusing at ALL! Rather easy if u asked me! Looks GREAT!
When you say Love and Best Dishes Y'all, I just want to yell out NOOO!!!! Don't go!
