Arlington Stadium... Before the Final Series

- A few photos of the first home of the Texas Rangers... Arlington Stadium. I shot these in September of 1993 just before the final series was played there. I went just to take a few photos from the outside, and found the main front gate open and no one was around. So I walked in and just started shooting. Lost some of those pictures throughout the years, but recently found these. I hope these bring back some good memories for you.

In the late 80s my best friend and I would drive from Flower Mound to Arlington while listening to the game on the radio and then we'd park in the parking lot for free and continue listening until the middle of the 5th inning in the car. At that point, they would open up the outfield for free and we'd go watch the 2nd half of the game for FREE!.
We saw Nolan almost pitch his 8th no hitter, he took it into the late 8th inning.
Such precious memories. Enjoy life while you're here, soak it in, cuz it goes fast!
They should put this stadium in mlb the show for all the rangers fans
Yeah! I first went to see my first MLB game in 1984! At Rangers Stadium! It was the finest to able to pound our feet on the metal bleachers in the outfield. We were the deplorables before there were deplorables. Friday night night baseball, $2.00 cheap seat! 4 hours of great fun! The field about the 7th inning was full of Malboro Man smoke! It was cool to see! It was the best a teenager could experience!
Man, that stadium was really not all that great, but I absolutely loved it! I still remember my first game there. The White Sox were in town for the first time after my then-favorite Ranger Scott Fletcher had been traded away to them. It was a Saturday night (9-23-89, to be exact -- Thanks Baseball Reference!). My grandmother had bought discount tickets through her work and so my mom surprised me and took me. We got there late because my dad had to work until 7 that night, so we left the house as the game started. I remember having the game on the radio and just getting giddier and giddier with anticipation of my arrival.
We got there in the middle of the third. The Sox had just taken a 1-0 lead. Our seats were just behind third base and honestly not that bad! What was pretty cool and also sad was seeing Scott Fletcher leave the White Sox dugout in Chicago gray to take the field. But he was right there!!!
The Rangers won on a big comeback in the 8th, but the highlight of the night was a foul ball off the bat of Lance Johnson in the top of the 8th. (The great Kenny Rogers was the pitcher at that moment, when he was still a reliever) It bounced off a seat about seven rows in front of me and landed right in my left hand! First Ranger game, saw my former favorite Ranger, the Rangers won and I caught a ball!!! It was amazing and I was hooked on live games from that moment. I've shagged a few batting practice balls since then, but actual balls in play have alluded me since.

I always love reading about stories like this one. What a magical time it must have been for you. I never went to a Rangers game, but I did attend their AA team's game at Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco on September 5th, 2016 -- a game in which the RoughRiders won by a final score of 5-1. It was a fun time, and an emergency fireman even gave me a ball that had landed somewhere behind me in the concourse. I will never forget that day and hope to attend a Rangers game in the near future.
Arlington Stadium was actually one of the better places in the 70s. It was far better than Veterans Stadium. The only problem was the heat.
I could always see it in my mind. But this video is such a treasure. Thank you!!!

I miss this place. I don't have a whole lot of memories but I do remember watching Nolan pitch as a 8 year old kid. I'm really going to miss Globe Life Park or Field or whatever they call in now lol. Had tons of memories there
Globe Life Park is so miserably hot. Very little shade
My dad owned a restaurant called Khaki's Fresh Food off Little Road in Arlington. One of my earliest memories was one night after work, he took me to this ballpark and parked in the parking lot and proceeded to tell me stories about it and The Rangers. Told me the next day it would be demolished. Miss you pops and thanks for the memories.

I interviewed David Clyde in Arlington Stadium in Sept. 1973, three months after his Ranger debut. A junior in high school, I was only slightly younger than the rookie phenom.
So bittersweet.

Always enjoyed this place. My first game at 7 years old in ‘88. Saw Nolan countless times, including the 5000th strikeout. Plaza seats were quite nice…and cheap

Another one who has memories of this place with his dad. Dad is gone, as is Ranger's Stadium (that's what we always called it). Didn't realize the old stadium was basically just north of the Globe Life stadium. I knew they were close in proximity, but not that close. Driving around there today, you can't see even a trace of the old Ranger's stadium. Weird.
I miss this place. Last game I attended was on my birthday August 28, 1993.

Spent my teens and twenties going to this park. $3 bleacher seats. My first MLB game, twilight double header, farm and ranch night, vs the expansion Blue Jays. Have been hooked ever since!

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I couldn't believe it myself. I just KNEW at any moment someone was going to come kick me out or arrest me for trespassing... but they didn't. I felt very fortunate to get those photos.
Not entirely true!! I walked right in an unattended door at a Rolling Stones concert in 2013. Literally nobody standing there and I walked right in and saw the show for free.
texas rangers stadium 1 from 1972 - 1993 for 22 seasons.
texas rangers stadium 2 from 1994 - 2019 for 26 seasons.
texas rangers stadium 3 from 2020 - present.
They went from the worst stadium to the best. There is something fascinating about this stadium, though. It was an enigma. You got a rare glimpse of it on TV on ESPN if Nolan Ryan was pitching. That's it. I did not live in Texas.
The worst was the appropriately named Sick's Stadium.
My first MLB game was the Astrodome...Astros/Cubs. But I can't count how many games I enjoyed at this old place. I hated to see it go.
I have the Section 413 sign (upper deck behind home plate). It's still in pristine condition.
From 1-9, my favorite offensive lineup ever...
I remember when it was "Turnpike Stadium", home of the Dallas/Ft. Worth Spurs.
I also attended many a Spurs game there.

Hey Dusty i remember seeing KTXA-TV ch 21 not to far from either stadiums. Was that true and do you have a picture of the old KTXA-TV Ch.21 studios?
They were very close to the old Arlington Stadium on Randol Mill Rd. The studios had to be moved after the construction of the current ballpark. They were there until the bitter end. I remember the ballpark rising up right next to the stuidos... and it was finally torn down shortly before the ballpark opened in 1994. In fact... If I'm remembering it correctly... Randol Mill Rd is now where the studios were, running along the south side of the ballpark. Sorry though... no photos.
There wasn't a bad seat in that dump.
I remember having seats by the bullpen one time and you had to sit at the edge of your seat and turn to the right to see home plate, because the seats were strait towards the field instead of angled.

texas rangers has 3 stadiums in arlington tx in the dallas fort worth area.
They've had three. One still being used, the other has been converted for the UFL and the 1st one is gone
I saw Reggie in 1973 hit two 3 run homers and a sac fly for 7 RBI and signed autographs for 30 minutes after the game sitting in a chair beside the visiting dugout. I liked the place but is was not up to standards
I grew up going to games there, and even as a kid, I knew it was a horrible stadium, for fans and players, alike.
But, aside from my childhood memories the few milestone events there, its only real claim to fame came in the movie, Bull Durham.
Can you name the scene?
That one event wasn't the stadium's only claim to fame. But it ranks up there for sure.
