For those who are concerned, you do get a dual-portal gun in this mod. Yahtzee was only a couple of chambers away from it.
I like that they came up with a few new mechanics for this one. I'll still put Mel and the time portal one as my favorites but this one is mighty beefy with all those chapters. I'd argue it does a better job than Mel of explaining mechanics that Portal 2 doesn't teach you, like how those early levels remind you that you can re-summon a cube intentionally as part of a puzzle as well as how, when you only have one portal, a fizzler wall will only impact your blue portal, not the existing static orange one.
Change too much, people will complain that you weren't "True to the original". Don't change enough, people complain that you didn't innovate enough.
IMO, this mod carefully straddled the line, and did a pretty fine job at it.
It's a free self-published mod, of course it doesn't have AAA voice acting. The story was as good as you can reasonably expect and was better than I expected it to be.
As long as Jack is reading the ad, I won't skip.
I love that Jack does all the ad reads now, he def has the voice for it. :3
This is the first time I’ve seen Frost, and he looks exactly how I expected him to.
Came for the ads, stayed for the content
I'm going to try this mod out now. Looks really good.
Love Watching Yahtzee and frost. I watch Yahtzee tries just as a fun distraction while I clean or just to watch. Let's drown out I rewatch constantly. It's fun I keep up with both Gabe and Yahtzee though I only recently discovered Gabe's channel. This reminded me that Portal 2 was the last Let's drown out Yahtzee and Gabe did. To my knowledge.
Gabe did make a brief return in the Post-ZP Stream for Vampyr and Jurassic World: Evolution
Pretty good mod, would recommend especially since it's, y'know, free. Expect it to take you 5-7 hours to beat. The ending was not great but I think they could've done much worse, and it didn't sour my enjoyment of the game as a whole at all.
For all those judging a full game after seeing not even half of it the second half of the game mixes it up with a second character and more complex puzzles
"Only half the game is boring!"
Isn't the argument you think it is
@@gyroscope915 saying you know a 4 hour game after seeing 2 isnt jsudging it fairly
@@gyroscope915 I'll defend the first half. They got a lot of mileage out of having only a 1 portal device for a good chunk of the game. And the puzzles actually threw me a bit because Portal 1/2 really only utilized the 1 portal device to establish the basic portal mechanics. This mod actually reserved on getting the dual portal device to much later and let the mechanics of having a static portal work more in its favor. Where it failed gameplay wise was where Portal 2 did as well. To many segments of just you walking or progressing through set pieces while dumping exposition.
As far as it failing on writing, well, how the hell was a fan mod with a low budget going to afford a quality VA? The writing itself is just serviceable. You can't really get the top brass that Valve had.
@@valcant940 if half the game is boring then its fair to say its a boring game.
Half the game being boring doesn't magically stop being a fact because the other half of it is slighty better.
If you like the game then good for you, that's your opinion, have fun. And its other people's opinion that its boring and saying *only half of it is boring* isn't a great defense
Timothy Spall is my guess for the actor. He was the game mechanic guy in the squid ink episode, the rattish dude in Harry potter, and surely he's been in Dr who.
Speaking of: is anyone else still disturbed by the fact rimmer had a swimming certificate and he didn't know how to swim. Check the i!
He has not been in Dr Who but he probably will be at some point, it's a rite of passage 😂
I just finished this, and I will admit, my prior Portal experience prevented me from realizing that, in this game lasers don't hurt you, for a really long time.
I will also say this: I just finished this game, and I hardly remember these initial puzzles. It was ok fun overall, but when core parts of your game are so easily forgettable........
I came here for the video game, but I stayed for the Red Dwarf
Not guessing Kirby Airride was killing me XD I adored that game as a kid
My fav HL2 mod that became a game is Infra - worth a look IMHO.
Emilia was the best part of this game 😊
Another year, another portal mod that's "basically portal 3 guys i swear it's that good!!" uh huh 😒
I won't believe that a Portal Mod is basically Portal 3 until Wolpaw's on the writing staff.
ehhhh, it's Portal 2 1/4. If it was twice as long, and had Cave Johnson back (yes, voiced by JK Simmons), maybe you could call it Portal 3........or 2 3/4. A real Portal 3 would introduce entirely new mechanics, not just rehash the ones from 2.
@@codmanout9861 A real Portal 3 would be developed by valve and not just be a mod for Portal 2 which is all this is. it should be on the P2 workshop, not the steam store.
I just finished playing the mod because I didn't realize it was coming out until I saw this video.
Gameplay is pretty solid, it's just more Portal 2 with some very mild gameplay twists thrown in and a bit more effort put into it than a typical mod.
But the story is just Portal 2 fanfiction and by the end I was getting tired of it.
It's portal 3 you guys
Mechanically okay but Portal's signature was its writing and humour, and this just doesn't have it. Also, that voice is just so grating.
sounds too much like a shock jock
It'd be forgivable if the plot wasn't a wet fart.
The voice is...this over exaggerating is grating indeed.
it reminds me too much of the corpo speakers for the fnaf games and it just kills me inside a bit
@@thedukeofdoom6323 sounds like a C tier let's player
1:56:46 - we hate the source engine as a whole tbh :)
Yahtzee said he liked the Talos Principle because the puzzles never had too many steps. Man, did he play a different game?
edit - he might mean Talos 2, in which case yeah, the sequel was better at this.
So, all in all, not very revolutionary.
I can't shake the feeling that these puzzles are just copy-pasted from portal 1 :/
No offense to the other guy but i think this would be much better if it were just Yahtzee playing and talking to the chat
"Lets Drow out", a series of videos where Yahtzee plays games with Gabriel, back when he was in Australia, showed that he really shines when he is with someone else to counter or challenge his points.
No, no it wouldn't.
@@SecondWindGroupYahtzee responding to randos in chat all stream? Even he hasn’t committed that many sins in life.
I couldn’t bear to see Yahtzee that uncomfortable for that long
@@MrAzulmagia I still think it would be better, he didn't really have much to say about portal, there wasn't much countering or challenging of points that wasn't him just misremembering the original games. And he seemed to always talk over dialogue, which wouldn't have been as annoying if 90% of the stream wasn't silence. Would've preferred if it was just Yahtzee playing and talking about the game, not necessarily even talking to the chat.
