Update: Joe Kovacs, who is 6'0, is now the second greatest shot put athlete of ALL TIME with a throw of 23.23m. He is within 6 inches of Ryan Crouser's world record throw.
6 inches is HUGE😮
Having met Joe Kovacs at the 2019 Arnold Classic Expo he’s 6-0 in shoes after an hour on an inversion table. The same day I ran into Carl Myerscough and that dude was legit tall.
To the short throwers, if you work hard you'll still throw far. I knew a guy in high school who was legit 5'3 and threw 54ft.
I’m 5’4 wish me luck
I’m 5’7 and a half wish me luck.
@@danjunior2622 my friend is 5’7 a senior and he got 63’4 with the 12. One strong dude tho
I'm 5"9 freshman and recovering from a torn ACL. This made me feel better that I might have a shot if I put the work in thank you and love the videos
As long as you're somewhere near 5'10 you're fine. ACL is a tough injury but you got many years ahead of you.
@@uberboat4512 yes it is. It makes you wanna work harder to achieve the goals and show everyone that you can bounce right back if you have an injury that's the way I see it
@@kyle-_-2887 yeah and as a freshman you aren't missing much. Better to deal with the hardship now and learn from it then miss out on junior/senior szn
Nice ima 6'1 freshman who throws 42 ft with a 10 and 39 with a
The video I want from years👍🏽
Thanks 🙏
Could you do a video on being "big" vs "small" as a thrower? Looking at people who do pent and arent huge but can still have some really solid throws. Any tips on working with these leaner athletes?
Mauricio Ortega 5.11 discus thrower pb 69m finish 6th at Tokyo Olympic
I threw for one year in college at a D3 school in Wisconsin. One thing that was weird about our team was all but one of our male throwers, including our javelin thrower and both decathletes, were 6’2.
How do you determine if tall throwers or short throwers should spin or slide?
Can you do one for discus and hammer?
For discus throw also
discus height next?
How height need to Discus throw sir
What’s a good shot/discus throw for an underclass man just starting? I hit 100’ discus and 37’8 shot (I’m also 5’10 155 and don’t have much muscle yet)
Thats alright, but for next year, aim for 120 in discus, and 45 in shot put. Maybe 50ft in shot if you really push it in training, and throw 125-130 for discus.
Im scared im too tall, im already 6 foot 10 and im starting to spin out of the ring
Where at are u in PA?
Fleetwood, Pennsylvania
Dane Miller is similar to Piotr malochoski
What about discus throw? Is 5foot 10 inch is good ?
Hannes Hopley was 1.80m and had thrown 67.66 in college. He had also competed at 2004 Olympics. So I think you can do it!
@@dimbellou7213 thanks a lot 🙏 i m 21years old and i throw 50m 2kg✊🏼
im 5' 6" and in freshmen year high school is that bad my PR is 40 feet even
How tall should a seated thrower be? Just wondering…😁
Joe is officially 1.81m (5-11 1/4)
It happens in every sport.
Hey Dane, I’m really struggling with Shotput and discus in college because of my handsize. Does handsize actually affect the throws? I’m 6’0 but have really small hands in comparison to my height and struggle with grip on both Shotput and discus. Does this even matter and is there anything I can do to help myself.
Not much you can do as far as the discus but in the shot put you can get the smallest legal shotput which is 110 mm diameter (that’s for a 16 pound). That will probably help a lot.
I'm about to go into an NAIA college for shot put and I'm only 5'9" with average hands for my height. I have the same problem so the first thing I thought after throwing the 16 (I just started working with the 16 last week) is to get a small diameter shot even though they're dumb expensive since they don't come in cast iron.
I'm 5'6". I can barely hold the discus.
Gd morning sir
Sir talk to with me I am physically education teacher from India
So me being a 5'7 senior makes it a lot tougher to be recruited?
I’m 5’9” my numbers weren’t crazy in hs but I’m a junior at a d3 school just put in the work it’ll come
@@jacobbarnes814 Thanks, but what were your numbers in highschool becasue right now i am at 37 for shot put and 116 for discis
@@GabeIsClutch52 I threw D3 as well and my numbers in HS were 45 in shot and 120 in disc. However, I knew guys with worse numbers and who were smaller than me get D3 offers as well
@@theleftuprightatsoldierfield Thanks hopefully I can get something similar still got a month
@@GabeIsClutch52 D3 recruiting pretty much boils down to getting your name out there as much as possible. I’ve also known guys who had significantly better numbers than me who got nothing in terms of offers because they didn’t go out of their way to contact coaches at those schools. As long as your numbers are respectable most D3 schools will offer you a spot on the team
What if I'm 5 6 👀
Best sir and am Indian
I'am 200 cm, is that good?
Bench 264 after 1 month of training
Nah
Thankyou for the truth!
Shorter guys are much faster in the circle than taller guys. The only advantage taller guys have is that they have a longer reach and higher point of delivery
Okk i am 5'11" and now 32 , i think let's throw
It appears that you proved height does matter. And you further proved that your five questions are irrelevant because no one can honestly say rather or not if a kid coming from high school has good work ethic.
Well I have a chance of being 5.10...
Height is just eye candy, is the kid an athlete? Plus there are a whole host of other factors that you have to consider.
U don’t have to be tall
Horrendous, no, HORRIBLE title to this video. One does NOT "throw" a "shot put". That ball is called a SHOT, not a "shot put". One PUTS the shot. Hence, the name of the event - the SHOT PUT.
Good grief, use proper terminology!
