Using a wood welder to quickly make a table top

  • Here I am using a wood welder (yes that’s an actual thing!) to speed up the setting time of the glue up. In fact the welder “sets” the glue instantly and therefore clamps can be removed straight away to start on the next project.
    Although the glue sets instantly - I still leave the top at least an hour before starting sanding etc.
    This whole glue up process took around 10 minutes. Without the welder it would be a couple of hours before I could remove the clamps.
    The welder allows me to make around 10 table tops a day (from milling the wood to removing clamps after welding).
    This tool is a luxury and cost £1800 used.

    This is not the wood welding you’re looking for

      Depends what you need it for. It’s great for speeding up the process of panelling wood for furniture

      Gluing != Welding

    It looks like a microwave generator which heats up the wood. I recognize this device from a termite company (since out of business) that came to my house and treated areas with termites by using a microwave heater like this.

    He's just using a heater to dry the glue. He just used tightbond

      Correct, it’s a portable wood welder. www.scosarg.com/tn4000-portable-rf-wood-welder?geoip_country=GB&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA7t6sBhAiEiwAsaieYmyd5VO0kJ5qtLichI42YL0UYH_TDVFTGCQJMdl1iNH4OUOJ0ih9AhoCkeQQAvD_BwE

      No sorry it was from my old place of work before I started my own thing. It was an old machine though I don’t even know if they make them anymore!

    This can't be real. I just heard of wood welding and it looked quite a bit different

      This is a ‘portable’ wood welder - generally they’re much bigger as they’re used for more industrial woodworking

      @sampennistonPWB i found out the process existed 2 hours ago, looked it up and only saw it used on 2 it little blocks in an industrial setting. Why isn't this more widely used? There's gotta be some drawbacks?

      The only real drawback is the price, they cost 1000’s even for the little one we used. It was definitely a nice luxury however since I’m now working for myself I would much rather have more clamps and leave pieces to dry over night than use the welder 🤷🏼‍♂️

      @@nateb4543 i’m 99% sure that the guy who posted the video doesn’t know what wood welding is because I also just learned about this a few hours ago. There’s no vibration happening here. I’m pretty sure it’s just drying the glue. With the real wood welding, there’s no glue used.

      @davidx1 I 100% know what I’m talking about. You’re thinking of friction wood welding which this is not. This is a portable wood welder ideal for speeding up the glue process of panelling table tops. www.scosarg.com/tn4000-portable-rf-wood-welder?geoip_country=GB&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA7t6sBhAiEiwAsaieYmyd5VO0kJ5qtLichI42YL0UYH_TDVFTGCQJMdl1iNH4OUOJ0ih9AhoCkeQQAvD_BwE
