Mate, you are doing a great educational service showing these areas. Plymouth? But what really gets me is that these places are just left to rot. And the homeless just left to get sick and die. What are the local councillors doing? Where is all the money going?

    • @neilpike6758

Joe, you can go viral nationally if you get a homeless person to put their tent up in the garden of a migrant hotel and film what the police and council thugs do to them. There will be national uproar. Please be the one who starts this stunt to expose the double standards suffered by British homeless people.

Union Street has never been a high street. It serve the Navy. The city centre has all the good shops, none boarded up. A large very busy Mall. The Barbican has tons of tourists so does the Hoe, 1000,s of people every month. The city is in good order, with massive amount of money modernizing the main shopping streets. Right now. There are four parallel shopping streets, not showing any decay. Many annual events both there and the Barbican and Hoe. No sign of slipping into the decay seen around the country.

Sorry to have to tell you this but government is not (and will never be) the answer because they are so out of touch with the reality for most of us. The answer is people. The answer is society in general. The key problem is we've been spoon fed the "American dream" which is based entirely on selfishness and every man for himself. We need a return to core British values of service to others, responsibility for self and care and commitment to a bright future for every single person, no matter what their personal circumstances.
No government, be it Labour, Tory or Reform UK is going to fix it. Fact!

The 'beautiful church' in the city centre is The Guildhall, not a church. The 'derelict office building' next to the Reel Cinema - closed because we now have two multiplexes in the city - is the Athenaeum Theatre, and is used by amateur companies to stage their work. It's used more in the autumn and winter than the summer. There is a luxury motor yacht builder in Plymouth and once they've had their seatrials they are often tied up alongisde in one of the marinas prior to being delivered to their owners. Tinside pool is a saltwater pool, and is open during the summer.
Plymouth has a lot of poverty, but it's helpful if you can get your facts right when you talk about it.

I was born in Plymouth (Freedom Fields Hospital). The building at 3:43 was in my youth The Odeon Cinema. A railway line from Millbay Dock went over the road at end of Union St forming a sort of screen/boundary hiding what was an area of bars/clubs & places of 'sexual release' 😀. I spent many summer holidays at my grandparents in Stonehouse & I found lots of interesting shops in Union St (1960s) in the daytime that is, not the night. You visited to Cornwall street - why not highlight the many excellent food establishments in the Pannier Market? You were on The Barbican - why not show the thriving independent stores? I lived there for a few years not so long ago and I loved it, I was born and raised in a bad run down area in the north east of England, so anything was better tbh. But some of the shops and theatres that were closed in your video I visited when they were open. I think it was already on the decline as I was leaving(about 6 years ago) but it looks awful now, and so sad as I have some great memories down there.

The Athenaeum building, located at Derry's Cross in Plymouth City Centre, includes a 340-seat auditorium and a local interest library. It is still in use. Plymouth may be grim but most towns and cities in Britain have deteriorated in the last twenty or so years.
Many high streets are now boarded up, charity shops or pound shops. Wages don't cover people's expenses quite often if they are working. Violent attacks with knives often happen in some towns..I don't believe British people are lazy, Students turn up for classes at colleges and they have no one appear to teach them. I know that from personal experience. Television has been dumbed down. I find some programmes absolutely insulting by the level of inane stupidity.
I recently travelled and went to a bus station where drug addicts were openly begging in broad daylight. It's accepted as a normal experience.

Hi Joe - I have subscribed to you - it is very disheartening to see Plymouth - which I had such fond memories when I was at Plymouth College of Art and Design - doing my HND Btech Photography course from 87-89 - Union Street was always a little dangerous primarily of when Royal marine fights and Navy .. but it was thriving ... it really is so sad to follow where you going .. where I used to hang out ... its become a dead corpse or a zombie .. yes there ae little bits like the Barbican and marina ... but you cant cling on to little patches and say Plymouth is alright ... because there is too much thats gone ... I would say prob started with Tony Blair back in the late 90`s when he took over and accelorated with David Cameron ... its complete neglect by the politicians and councillors .... how on earth the town councillors live with themselves ... maybe theyre on the WEF payroll too .. Joe be great to meet up for a cuppa and chat .. not sure that I have all the answers ... and it is a tall order to start to gut the rot of society and kick start the economy and rejuvenation of our towns and cities .. but something has to happen ... otherwise England will look like a third world ! Keep up good work Joe and hopefully chat soon my friend - Best Wishes Will

They do - but just not right in the middle of cities.
Go to France - where there is no equivalent of the National Trust, and you'll see loads of beautiful but abandoned buildings in the countryside. I'm not talking small domestic houses here, but large buildings.
So yea, most European countries make sure their old buildings in their cities are well maintained and cared for. But go out of their cities, and it's a different story.

    • @Heaven-dy9lj

@@robtyman4281 Central Europe, in my experience look after their buildings and maintain them. Birmingham for example has eradicated most of its old buildings, instead of maintaining them. Sure new buildings in UK city centres, but majority of buildings gone. Prague for example the ratio is the opposite -they've kept their buildings.
As the video points out the levels of degradation (shops closed etc etc) as seen in Plymouth centre, is absent in most Europe cities. IME

A friend of mine has had an ongoing issue with a neighbour in the block opposite to him for several years now, the council are fully aware of him but won't do anything, he recently put his own windows through with a hammer. The vast majority of people are living off the wealth accrued by house prices going up so much. They believe they'll be able to continually equity release their home to continue their life of consumption but they don't realise that when they need to do it, so will all the rest of them. At that point, overpriced 4-5bedroom homes owned by childless people who no longer work will drop in value like a rock. Who will buy all these big homes? the new arrivals certainly won't give them going rate for them!

    Joe
I have a friend who lives there, and we normally meet up at the end of August/start of September.
It is not cheap staying there, but use Hotel near the Hoe, where we know the owners who give us a great deal.
Plymouth is very easy to get around, with everything close together!
We have dogs who love walking around Plymouth, and there are some great restaurants/bars to go to, but
    they are still having problems.
The Barbican is where most tourists go, and is very busy/all shops filled, etc!
Unfortunately, the British have no back-bone, and take 12"s, all the time!
Everything is "Designed to happen", with so-called "Elite & Politicians", nothing but "Freemason Puppets" who
do what they are told to do!!!
Here's a true story which happened in Plymouth, in a Fish Restaurant in 2022, while we were on holiday, having
    dinner!
A loud American man & a young Chinese girl came to the door, as had just come off Ferry from France, and wanted
    some food & drink.
Restaurant said they were full, but American kept on, until they said ok, where they sat next to us, with their suitcases.
After a few minutes, I asked the Chinese girl..."Who own's China?"
I got no response, so I asked again, with no response, so I said..."The Jesuits of the Vatican!"
    She "Head-Butted, His Chest!"
The American, knew who I meant, and said..."What about the Jesuits?"
I said they own & control everything & everyone worldwide, using their "Freemason puppets!"
He then said he had been to a WEF Meeting in France with Klaus Schwab(WEF Head!).
I said that...We are not all stupid, and know what is going on!
Like most things in UK PLC(UK is a CORPORATION!).
Game Plan of ROME/Elites is to ruin/destroy Western Cultures, with forced immigration to bring in a "One World Citizen!"
There is a massive "Depopulation Agenda" to reduce World Population by about 90%, with UK going to about 19 Million,
    Germany 29M, USA 99M, etc!
Russia, Far East, etc are mostly untouched for now!?
Upcoming WW3(like WW1 & WW2!) will be run & controlled by the Jesuit Order(Vatican Military Arm!) with ALL sides
    WORKING TOGETHER for maximum deaths!!!
    All Military heads are "CONTROLLED-FREEMASONS"

Sorry to see this sad state of affairs, but lets get this straight: Spanish Armada was defeated by a tempest in the sea. Had it been a sunny day, you guys would be speaking Spanish now.

What has happened in the last 15 years??......This government, the UK always looks like this when the Tories are in. It's not the cost of living crisis, it's the cost of Tories crisis. The speech Rishi Sunak made about Labour spending money on deprived areas and him undoing that, this is what he was talking about.

It's easy to make it look bad if you pick the right bits. Most of Plymouth is superb. The lower part of town and Union St. is an absolute mess though.

Tbf… union street is one of the only streets in plymouth that is completely derelict. Basically it was a road full of smallish nightclubs and pubs- all on one street- all on the edge of the city centre. Then new bars and clubs opened slightly closer to the city centre- plus the new complex with the cinema was built… and union street closed down- end of! All the bloggers walk up and down this one street (and its side streets) and clickbait it…. Plymouth has its rundown areas, but an empty union street is definitely a one off…
