I'm a KTM 390 Adventure (2020) owner. So my benchmark will be that bike. ( I have a problem with the KTM's high seat and stalling issue).I took a short test ride of the Himalayan 450 today. My impressions; Pros 1. I'm 5'.8"...and I was able to almost flat foot. 2. The initial pick up is very good. The bike springs forward as soon as you release the clutch. 3. Engine not too noisy..feels smooth 4. Gear changes are unbelievably smooth and accurate ...particularly amazing because it's an RE 😜. 5. All the switches seem to be good quality 6. Suspension is soft and comfortable over speed breakers and rough road. 7. The instrument cluster is nice and legible ( but will require getting used to) 8. I've heard some criticism of the rear view mirrors..but i feel they're very good. 9. The acceleration is decent given the weight of the bike ( 195 kgs ) Cons: 1. The bike is HEAVY and you can feel that from the moment you start. 2. Due to the weight, it won't be "flickable" in city traffic. 3. I found the gear lever a little difficult to reach... its placed a little high. 4. The riding triangle isn't as comfortable as the old Himalayan ( maybe one can get used to it). My current bike is a KTM 390 ADV...so thats a tough bike to measure up to.....but i think RE have really got a good bike finally. But does it do enough to make me switch? Probably not.
@@InvictusCoaching All depends on what you are ( young/older) and what you want to do. I've not been able to spot a better value for money deal than the 390 Adv ( and I'm too old to be a fan boy of any brand 😄). It actually compares with one segment higher. If you are taller than 5'9"....get the 390 Adventure ( presuming you intend to do a lot of touring). Heard a few good things about the Triumph Scrambler too. Test ride that ( I haven't...so can't compare).
40-50k ? Thats crazy. I was expecting it to be not more than 20k. Didnt know cross spoke wheels are that expensive atleast for a single cyl ~3L rupee bike.
Tubeless spoke wheels are patented technology. A proper offroad tubeless spoke wheel costs north of 1lakh. For reference, just a simple Excel aluminium rims cost 25k in the market.
Having ridden my Classic 500 and Xpulse in extreme conditions of Ladakh and Himachal and having had punctures at the most remote places, my main attraction to the new Himalayan were the tubeless spoke wheels. Ill wait till the tubeless version is offered as an accessory. I plan to pick up the Kaza Brown and get the wheels. Until then not picking up the bike. Also carrying soare tubes and tools to change them amount to around 30% of my total luggage weight.
All points most beautifully brought out...A few thoughts... 1. As an interim, for such audience who want this as a long dist tourer, why couldn't RE come out concurrently with an alloy wheels tubeless option as in the interceptor, which is infact a heavier bike? Perhaps for such a tourer version, RE could have given a 19 inch front wheel with alloys, instead of the current 21inch tubed spoke wheels. 2. What does RE expect the current owners to do, once tubeless spoke wheels are released?? Selling the current wheels is next to impossible. 3. The current only option of spokes tube tyres were a deal breaker for me. Yet to cancel my Kaza brown bkg. Meanwhile, bought myself a Suz V Strom 250, at a great price of 2.3 on road at Hyd. Thanks for the read
It is just a market strategy to book more profit after launch. Sell the bike with tube tyre and old spoke wheels at 2.69 and after 2 months charge them 20k for tubeless spoke wheels, just to show the price of the bike is competitive
Hanle Black is GBP 6050 vs Hanle Black Tubeless is GBP 6300 ( in UK) 250 GBP (INR 27,000) for cross spokes. The price should be around 20K here in India
I hope the cross spoked version rims are not made an add on accessory but should have a variant of the bike with the cross spoke rims. It does not make sense to by normal rims and then separately purchase the tubeless rims. And I hope the cross spoke rims fit the 411 too.
Agree - that would be nothing short of looting! pay for the useless spoke wheels on your bike and then upgrade to the cross spokes - and try to palm off the extra rims and tubes which will have no market value.
Good point - many of those who bought the RE H 452 are the "super enthu" bunch and were not willing to wait for the cross-spoke version (which makes total sense on the Himalayan, considering its usage)
In principle there should not be any change in price for the tubeless spoke wheels. It's RE's responsibility to provide tubeless tyres when making a off road vehicle
I have seen RE Himalayan with cross spoke wheels in Germany and USA they are excellent for long drives and off road riding, it's been a year that RE said will release cross spoke wheels but do they released now?
Very nice!! As you pointed it out, it all depends on your excitement level. I am not waiting for the spoke wheels, since I want to get the Himalayan to be able to ride with you guys, lol. Since I am not going to do adventure touring on Interceptor 650. However, I will be eventually getting these wheels as and when they come out. And from what I have seen on the internet you can convert it into Rally version by getting the products that RE will offer in the future. Everything from spoke wheels, to seat to the handlebars, all will be available. Bolt on Fit is always good. Good video, cheers Jasween!
Great video. Spot on. Just going to wait for spokeless wheels or atleast rally seat and rally engine crash guards to be available in accessories before booking 450. Plus as you mentioed xpulse 440 might just roll out in June :)
Also factor in the price of a set of tubeless capable wheels will be higher than the difference between the tube and tubeless models of the bike. As opposed to buying a model that comes from the factory with tubeless capable wheels, upgrading afterwards to the cross spoked tubeless wheels might not be as reasonable as you will effectively have paid for two set of wheels.
