It just doesn't make any sense to commit to a one thousand episode show when you can be watching multiple shows with different stories and settings in that time span. Samurai Champloo or Code Geass are good examples of shows they could watch next.
During their podcast they said that they chose to react to another anime instead of Death Note, because they wanted to react to animes with "action" and "shocking moments". Yet Death Note is full of shocking moments, and even though there isn't a lot of fighting, there is still action, both physical and psychological.

The obvious hype anime would be action like my hero academia and attack on titan. Obv death note has action but it can't compare to the flashy scenes of action anime its pretty simple

Believe them, or don’t. Support them or don’t. Just respect others’ decisions on the matter.
