The fact that Cicily and Betys played the roles completely different then the principles. And still managed to pay homage to the animated film is a massive achievement! They deserve so much more recognition. They're wonderful. :)
Wow! Omg she's SOOO good! I wish I could see this show with her in it! It would be so cool to see it live, and with a cast like this would make it even BETTER if possible!!!
I love Cicily Daniels, I might be biased since we are friends but she indeed is immensely talented and I for one am super glad the Disney saw fit to have the understudies flex their muscles and give them and US the privilege of seeing some of the most talents folks on Broadway who are the "support" cast. I am team Cicily Daniels all the way.
I mean if you were in her position, you'd do the same. Those trapdoors are no joke and falling through improperly could be pretty bad. Just ask Idina Menzel.....
You have to. It’s a safety precaution otherwise you could really hurt yourself. Case in point: Sierra Boggess, the main Ariel on Broadway, had a trapdoor mishap. It wasn’t in this show. It was in Phantom. They had their trapdoors malfunction one night and long story short Sierra accidentally tripped, fell into one and knocked her two front teeth out.
@avileable "It must have terrible power, or you wouldn't want it so badly" -Ariel "Keep tight inside of them, or she wouldn't want them so badly -Glinda (from Wizard of Oz)
@BubblegumPopMusic13 Well here's an interesting fact. Pat Carroll attended the Opening Night performance of this show. She aboslutley loved Sherrie Rene Scott as Ursula! So Sherrie must have done something for the orginal actress to have enjoyed it so much. If you don't believe me, there's a video right here on RUclips. It's The Little Mermaid on Broadway Premire Part 1. I don't know if Ms. Carroll saw any of the other actresses though. Jodi Benson also loved Sierra Boggess as Ariel.
Cicly Daniels and Betsy Morgan in the National Tour? I would be all for it if Disney were to relase one! I think Cicly made an awsome Ursula. I saw Besty in the Nation Tour of Les Miserable. She stole the show! I would incredible if she played Ariel again. I just adore her. I'd also be up for Michelle Pruiett as Ariel. I think this was Cicly's first time on as a lead. I know it was Betsy first night being able to play Ariel. They must have been jumping out of their skin with happiness. :)
When will a MAN play Ursula? I think that would be the best choice as Ursula was heavily inspired by the super famous drag queen DIVINE, so that would make more sense with the original character.
Have they even said they are doing a national tour?? I hope they do ... but it's been a while since it closed on Broadway and they haven't said anything about it ... I hope they do one though ... I'd LOVE to see it on stage ... live. Just saw the Mary Poppins tour and loved it
I'm not even sure if there WILL be a national tour. It hasn't been talked about in the news since its launch was announced in 2009, and it's supposedly supposed to start this fall, but we haven't heard anything about it (not even the cast). Plus, all the major theaters I checked don't have it scheduled. Something tells me it was maybe canceled or moved up.
wow. its a wizard of oz mock. check out 3:17 . thats a line from the wizard of oz. and they falling through the trap door thing leaving behind a significant item...
@ozkid911 Idina accident? Did something happen to her in a Wicked performance? I'm only fimiliar with her through Rent, so I don't know much about this stuff...
@LegallyWickedMermaid @bwayfan19 I wouldn't mind her at all. Both would be phenomenal. I think what we really need to wish for is an overhaul of some of the technical elements.
@bodboy106 i think theres often at least one show each day or so that is completely run by the understudies. I know ive never seen a show at my local theatre with all the non-understudy cast
I know this is an old video but I have only just come across it. Now THAT is what Ursula is supposed to be like! I hated Sherie Renee Scott, she had is all wrong, totally missed the point. Cicily is what I wanted Ursula to be, a big black Diva, not a scrawny whiny wasp.
It's okay if you don't have the actual moving video of heidi, but that doesn't matter. All I want is Heidi ans Sherie Scott both doing Poor Unfortunate Souls Reprise all the way until Ariel destroys Ursula forever by smashing Ursula's Nautilus magic shell when Ursula says "Trust your dear old auntie instead!".
you know, this whole production really just...sucked. It really did. Someone should redo The Little Mermaid on Broadway, it's cute that it's all colorful and stuff, but...yeah, this adaptation in general is very disappointing. No woman (or man) can save the role of Ursula in this way, no matter how wonderful a performer they are, which is sad because Ursula is one of the great Disney Villians.
@jadtoon You can't assume Ursula is white because in the movie, she's fuckin gray! And you say you're not being racist but that's EXACTLY what you're being.
it must have terrible power otherwise you wouldn't want it so badly sounds like a rip off of the wizard of oz when Glinda speaks to Dorothy about the ruby slippers.
If you didn't know, the original Ursula, Pat Carroll, is white! There's nothing wrong with a black or white Ursula, but to say one is better than the other for whatever ridiculous reason you might think, is racist. I do agree that this one is very good, but a good one is a good one, regardless of the color of their skin.
I love seeing a black Ursula on broadway. Gives me more confidence that I can get the role if my school ever does this show :)
J-star same here lol
Wow, this women is a brilliant Ursala!!! Such a difficult role to play
Her voice is amazing and the acting is perfect. The energy's insane you can hear she had a blast playing the character love her❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Cicily definitely brings out the sassy side of Ursula, while Sherie's interpretation sounds like Ursula's having fun just being evil.
@@smartguy458 Yes true

If they perform live, then holy fuck, congratulations, what a wonderful cast.
This is the best Ursula I've seen
Iagreeded
I mean agreeded
Sandy Dirienzi *agreed tho
I agree!! candie :)
She does this better than even Sherie. I'm very impressed Cecily!
AnaxErik4ever SHUT UP NOOB
@@therandomman9831 .-.
Howard Ashman would of loved to see this.. as he loved Broadway.
I wish we could see more actresses playing this role.
4:18 The way she soo subtly makes sure she is standing on the trap door. LOL
I mean if you were in her position, you'd do the same. Those trapdoors are no joke and falling through improperly could be pretty bad.
Just ask Idina Menzel.....
@@tonwilliams5277 LOL, I've fell thru them personally

I love this version. She’s amazing, I would love if Sherie and Cecily did a collab on the song. Or if they did a LM2
I love the way she says, "You're mine now mermaid!"
Same her acting is absoulutly perfect
I must say Cicily adds a lot of sexy evil to Ursula. Heidi and Sherie too!
My God....Cicily is so perfect for Ursula.
@avileable "It must have terrible power, or you wouldn't want it so badly"
-Ariel
"Keep tight inside of them, or she wouldn't want them so badly

4:08 Ursula sounds like Cruella when she was reunited with Alonzo. 😂😂🤣🤣😆
I want to see this show live so bad!!!!!!! I wish it would come to Austin on tour!!!!
Cicily has an amazing figure for Ursula!
Cicily adds a lot of soul to her singing!

it was great if they choose Cicly as Ursula and Sierra as Ariel.
THAT WAS FREAKING AMAZING!!!!!! I LOOOOVVVVEEEED IT
You go sassy Ursula! :)
She has quite a powerful, "POOR UNFORTUNATE SOUL!"

She actually did a good job!
When will a MAN play Ursula? I think that would be the best choice as Ursula was heavily inspired by the super famous drag queen DIVINE, so that would make more sense with the original character.
TheStone I've been trying for years to be Ursula and some day I will be
TheStone rumors say That in the live action movie Ursula wil be played by a man
Don't men have enough jobs?
Pepijn Mathijssen Nope Melissa McCarthy is going to be Ursula 😭
3:18, oh that is why all spells are reversed.
this is a better ursula then the other one (the white one, no racism intended)
Sherie Rene Scott
This esopdie shows the evolution of usrula
I WANT THE NATIONAL TOUR
I always loved her as Alana and thought she'd make an awesome ursula! I was right!
i think all of them are great!
Wow! What a woman!

LOL MY BLACK MAGIC. Sure is black magic.
I would like to see it live too!x333~
Why does the scream from 4:32-4:36 sound just like Sherie?
Probably because it's pre recorded and since Sherie was the lead, it's her voice.
weirdloverofthings same thing at 2:23 when Daniel laughs, the recording was originally from Sherie Rene Scott
RANDOM E that’s not Ursula laughing. That was flotsam
wow. its a wizard of oz mock. check out 3:17 . thats a line from the wizard of oz. and they falling through the trap door thing leaving behind a significant item...
2:59 that was Sierra's voice.
@theatrecr8zy a tour was announced shortly after the show closed, but given the lack of info since then, it's most likely not happening
True. Cicily would have been SUPER in thw final performances.
@ozkid911 Idina accident? Did something happen to her in a Wicked performance? I'm only fimiliar with her through Rent, so I don't know much about this stuff...
I just want the national tour to come already. Has any one heard any new news about the tour?
she was cool :) way to go Ms. Cicily :) \m/
@LegallyWickedMermaid @bwayfan19 I wouldn't mind her at all. Both would be phenomenal. I think what we really need to wish for is an overhaul of some of the technical elements.
She is also awesome!=3
"well, look who has my black magic now."....seriously?
I think I prefer her to Sheire. I liked Sheire in the role but I think Cilly feels less like Cruella de vil and more like Ursula.
Either or, I would love that!
Can you add Heidi Blickenstaff doing this song? With Ursula destroyed when Ariel smashes the shell?
Luv her
@MovieDudeProductions What are you talking about???
@thewzrdofoz No she is supposed to leave it behind. King triton comes up and grabs.

"Black magic" very funny!
Broadway you can never understand them
i seen it also but i still liked it
When does the national tour start and end, anyway?
well, from what i understand, that's how she dies in the original non disney story, or something relative to falling. Melting possibly?

Lion king under the sea~

@wickedjpan I agree with you there are very few lead roles that are performed by black people smh
Was this broadway or a tour?
HarryPotter 360 this was broadway, before they went on tour
aww you couldve been a doll and showed us the rest of the show bummer but nice ersla well she is a good.. um it was good lol
@LegallyWickedMermaid ep! She had to go to the emergency room all made up and in the dress, with her husband taye in tow.
it must have terrible power otherwise you wouldn't want it so badly sounds like a rip off of the wizard of oz when Glinda speaks to Dorothy about the ruby slippers.
yea, had to do some research, btw the reply button helps xD
not to be racist but the white one wasn't the best this one is amazing and black people have beautiful voices she has of facial expressions
