You should have added what Yu Darvish commented on Bauer playing in Japan. A rough translation is like "he is a person who can explain pitching in a clear and understandable manner based on the latest research and findings, and I believe the baseball in Japan needs such individuals". To be fair, the people in Japan were more skeptical about Bauer coming to play at first, but after seeing his character, performance, approach, etc through the games and his media, they love him for what he brought to the NPB.
Former Red Sox Koji Uehara also said he really likes Bauer's playing style and personality as an athlete, and his teammate Imanaga, who started the game against US in the WBC and will probably be posted to the MLB for the next season, spoke really highly about Bauer as well. I think Japan fits better for him.
@breadandcircuses8127 To fill you in, Yokohama Baystars at that time, was chasing down Hanshin Tigers who were in 1st place with about a game or so ahead. Lots of fans in Japan felt like he knocked some fighting mentality that Yokohama has been missing for a long time when he was yelling his teammates to wake up. Top of the rotation guy from MLB screaming at them shows how he knows that they could do better on the field, and gave some hope to the fans that this year they might finally wake up and go grab that championship..... which hasn't been exactly the case, but yeah a little context for you lol
I live in Japan and he actually has pitched very well. He’s had a couple bad starts like most pitchers do, but it’s funny how the only times I see his name on western media it only highlights his bad starts, but he’s actually been really good here.
Sword celebration is also a non-issue. Stateside media only covers the negative. When there isn’t any negative, they make it up. Most Baystars fans were happy about Bauer being pissed- the fans and Bauer want a championship more than the rest of the team.
Ya the "sent down to minors" story was actually just keeping him pitching due to rain outs and weird game days. This is why Its tough to trust media. They never seem to get the athlete's side of the story.
No matter which team you are a fan of, more than once or twice Japanese people have been hurt by players who came to NPB from MLB. There were players who did not come to Japan despite being paid large contracts. There were players who looked down on Japanese baseball and played atrocious baseball. There were many players who were welcomed with open arms but left in the middle of the season. We were hurt each time. That is why I think that seeing a Cy Young Award-winning pitcher like Trevor respecting Japanese baseball and pitching hard for the Japanese baseball team helps heal the broken hearts of Japanese people. I think that is why even fans of teams other than the BayStars have special feelings for Trevor.
This is the dumbest shit ive ever read.... are you familiar with the charges against trevor? Or is it like well hes here in japan tryin we better cheer the guy is a terrible person
I'm happy for you guys. Btw as a Mets fan - thanks for Kodai Senga. He's been one of the few bright spots on an otherwise very disappointing team. If he weren't on the Mets he'd be in the running for Rookie of the Year.
@@marcoslaureano5562 Did you know that he went from a developmental player to a major leaguer? In the NPB, a developmental player is a player who is not on the roster of the first team and cannot play in official games. In high school, he never caught the attention of scouts. A sports store owner who knew a lot about baseball contacted a scout he knew at Softbank, saying he had found a gem, and hired Senga as a developmental player without much expectation. If the sports store owner had not noticed his talent, he might have led a completely different life.
I'm Japanese and didn't know about Bauer until he came to Japan. It was only after he came that I learned about him and what happened to him in America. To be honest, he seems like a different person in Japan than he is in America. When Bauer is in Japan, his expression is very soft. When he came to Japan, he said, People here listen to me. Like everyone else, people change themselves depending on the attitude of the person they interact with. People are mirrors that reflect themselves. I see him as very honest. And he is also a very sincere person. I like his clumsy way of life and I understand it. I want him to play in Japan forever, but I think he should go back to MLB to play at a higher level, and I want to support him. At that time, I would like American baseball fans to welcome him warmly. I sincerely hope so. (I used Google translation. Sorry if it's hard to understand.)
This video shows him actin in the exact same manor in america and japan... hes defintl choking some japanese woman against their will right now but luckily for him you guys dont care.
@@femka Was he ever convicted? No. Do you just support social media justice? Yes, and that is objectively true, you have already made up your mind. If someone tomorrow decided to call you out on twitter for rape that happened 2 years ago and that tweet was reposted by multiple news outlets, whether it's true or not your life would never be the same again if not ruined. There is literally nothing stopping a person from doing that because society values popular opinon over logic. People like you are a drone for the mass media and have 0 analytical thought process.
If a batter can go yard on a pitcher and bat flip/ do literally everything under the sun running the bases, than a pitcher shouldn’t get any backlash from doing the sword celebration.
It's not about pitcher vs batter, it's about a clueless white man in Japan trying to ape Japanese culture. I don't think it's an enormous deal, but that's not what the controversy is about.
Technically its already been approved by a Japanese player years ago. Tsutsugo consulted him on it cause he changed the side he sheaths the sword to be consistent with Japanese practices.
that story about a teammate having an issue with his sword celebration was a bunch of bullshit anyways. the player that they reported as calling it "disrespectful" literally gifted a Japanese katana to Trevor after one of his first starts
He started poorly with Yokohama and got blasted in his first few starts which earned himself a lot of poor media coverage. However he is 7-2 with a 3.67 era now halfway through the season. I am not a Baystars fan nor really a Bauer fanboy but I can say that he has done pretty well for himself so far. Contrary to what the media has said, he seems to be liked in the team and his teammates do his celebration sometimes. They even got him gloves with the sword on it so unlikely that are bothered or think its racist.
@@cubic_regentize of the ball stitching and the leather are all diff so for sure was an adjustment going from American balls ALL his life to this. Got used to it and only has had quality starts since his rough outings in the beginning. He just won MVP this month in NPB so he’s still got it.He gets to much hate in America lol
I mean, he had a significant amount of downtime leading up to moving to another country where he doesn't fluently speak the language and is playing in a league that has a number of differences in rules and traditions, let alone the cultural differences with the audience. It take some time to adjust to that sort of thing and he seems to making major progress so far towards being comfortable and effective. Hes not instantly the best pitcher Japan has ever seen, but hes doing fine as far as i can tell.
I was watching the game which Bauer was angry, but the mistakes of those infield players were terrible. The commentator also said that it was not a professional play. It's natural for anyone to get angry, even if it's not Bauer. In addition, the Yokohama BayStars have not won a championship in over 20 years, as both players and coaches lack the enthusiasm to win. Fans have longed for a player with a fighting spirit like Bauer. He is the savior who leads the gentle team to victory.
I was at that game in Yokohama. I’ve been a life long fan of the Baystars but that defense has to be the worst play I’ve seen during the past 9 years (there was one even worse in 2014). Personally, I don’t blame his outburst at all, and I believe the majority of Yokohama fans felt the same. These things happen.
Last time Baystars won the championship, their MVP was Kazuhiro Sasaki (future ROY with Mariners, and he recruited Ichiro to play with him in Seattle).
Bauer won pitcher of the month and got selected for the All Star game with the final spot. He got over 360,000 votes compared to Murakami (Japan’s reigning home run king) who only got 30,000 votes in second place.
The sword issue wasn't even that bad. His teammate told him that he was doing it on the wrong side so his teammate showed him which side is correct and now Bauer does it on the correct side. In his videos that he posted everyone on his team is now doing the sword. He went down to the minors for a week because the majors did not have a game so he wanted to pitch so in Japan you can move down in the minors for a week to play if you are not playing that week in the majors. With him yelling and telling the players to wake up. This guy is competitive, if you played in any level and your teammate was doing that too someone would be yelling the same thing. I think a lot of people Criticize him because of his past. It seems that he took a break and apologize for what happened and is now doing better.
It's so weird that American media kept on twisting things and re-interpreting stuff. Meanwhile, his teammates are having fun in his vlogs lol, making hilarious poses at the camera during training lol
@@pulsed13 I know. They are more busy bringing up his past when we was in the MLB compared to what he has accomplished in Japan. Just in his first season.
@@pulsed13 The media lied about him being an attacker when he was the victim of sexual assault by women who lied to him to have sex so she could concoct false stories to go after him for money. Bauer actually proved his innocence in court which is unheard of. No one usually gets the chance to prove innocence in cases like this, they usually settle to remove the risk of losing in court because of lying. Bauer's attacker made the mistake of asking for a restraining order, giving bauer the opportunity to prove she is lying. Bauer WON. Fighting a restraining order is extremely hard because judges error on the side of allowing them. Bauer proved his innocence to such a degree, the judge called out his attacker for lying and ruled against the restraining order. The suspension by the MLB was just long enough so the dodgers did not have to pay bauer, proving he was suspended because the team just wanted to weasel out of his contract after the team smeared him by bolstering the lie from bauer's attacker. Players should be extremely pissed about this, bauer's entire contract was essentially canceled by a false accusation bolstered by the team that could benefit by not paying bauer. This is a new way teams can turn guaranteed money to non-guaranteed money. A big ramification is that players must stick to long term contracts that are too long for a suspension to cancel to reduce the incentive for teams to suspend players to avoid paying or rostering them. Bauer was an advocate of short term contracts which benefits the above average players.
I support the sword it’s the same thing as bat flips, bat drops, screaming when striking someone out, getting pumped up when reaching a new fastball velo, and even running onto the field after a walkoff it’s all competitive gestures that should be tolerated by everyone and if not then baseball isn’t for them
Also to be fair with his past, he won the case. So legally he didn’t do anything wrong. It actually came out later through one of the accuser’s friends showing texts between her and the accuser where the accuser was saying she was going to “get him” and things along those lines making their night together seem more sinister from her side. Honestly it’s messed up for both buaer and women. Buaer likely will not pitch in the mlb again and now when women who are actually assaulted speak up it’s going to be taken with a grain of salt. So shame on that girl (who operantly was hooking up with tatis and was a padres fan and cheerleader)
Ive read what media says US and Japan since he was in MLB. Japanese media has been more neutral than US. He has been nice, smile with Japanese media. Media attitude to Bauer is different US and Japan. We knew his past but not got bias like US. Japanese culture is called high context, means believe what you see and feel than what people say, feeing culture. In US people believe what people( media) says. Bauer said " I wants to improve as a player and human. " on his ch before come to Japan. He show us process swallowing his pride, work hard, enjoy, selfless. Im glad that his face is getting softer and softer. He show us his natural character in Japan is no enemy, I guess.
He’s had teammates do the celebration with him. He also asked to be sent down because his start got rained out and he didn’t want to wait 11 days between starts. So many of the stories about him are twisted negatively.
I can see that many people aren't watching his vlogs. He explains everything good, about outburst or going to minors. But everybody loves to hate him, bottom line
Lol those are the nice ones! All the news releases on these bullshit assault allegations are the real bs stories and do way more damage. This is why the news media is the enemy of the people, only post outrage articles with zero facts!
He has not played bad in japan at all. Sure he had some trouble in the beginning but now he is one of the top Pitchers playing in the Allstars and being last months player of the month.
Let's clear some stuff up from someone who actually lives in Japan and follow the Baystars. 1. Bauer had no such arguement or disagreement with his teammate about the sword celebration, that was a miscommuncation and was about a different issue, not wiht Bauer himself. 2. Bauer WAS NOT sent down to the minors, he chose to go there so as not to miss his start due to a delay in pitching rotation.
@@BroskiBigDuck what you mention happened in the video was only addressed once for the two times he was sent down. Maybe watch the whole video next time
@@BroskiBigDuck I’m aware, but the start of the video lists those things and I know some people will not watch the entire thing, much like the people who initially read these reports
As a Japanese, I can say that all Japanese baseball fans love him. He is enthusiastic and trying to fit in with Japanese baseball. His record is 12G 6W-3L 3.46ERA. But he's now allowed 12 home runs, the most in the league. And he's getting used to Japanese baseball, so I think he'll get better from now on.
I'm a Blue jays fan, and that stat line reminds me of Yusei Kikuchi! This season, Yusei is 7-3 with a 4.13 era but also with the most allowed home runs in the American League. I love both players, and I'm glad that for his first season Bauer has been doing pretty well all things considered
I honestly kinda miss watching his vlogs. It was great insight into the MLB and the daily life of a starting pitcher. I never really liked the guy, but it was worth watching. But now I can only look back on it as narcissistic vanity. There's a reason why nobody else does stuff like that. You are literally in _the show_ and you have millions of dollars. Why do you feel the need to do this when literally everyone else just wants some alone time in between games? It was never about the insight, it was always about the spotlight. Good riddance I say.
I mean, Japan is supporting him because he’s by far the best player to come to Japan from the MLB ever. The team that has signed him and the whole league is making a lot off of him going to Japan and the change in country allows them to leave most of his controversies in the past. The Japanese people have little to no knowledge of his history and his sexual misconduct issues and are quicker to overlook than the US fans. The same would be true of course if the situations were reversed. At the end of the day, it’s all money. Edit: Not sure if there is a language barrier here, but one does not need to be convicted of a crime in criminal court in order for any one individual to dislike or disagree with the actions of another. I do not care if Bauer is brought to criminal court over these specific cases. My coworker never went to court for groping a female worker last year, but he damn sure did it and he was absolutely fired for it. Not facing criminal charges is not a defense to say someone didn’t do something or that we, as people, can’t hold opinions that may even disagree with a verdict (think OJ). Remember, the court lets far more guilty people walk then innocent people jailed (think type 1 vs type 2 error for those who know). Bauer has been problematic for a long time now and this is just one more thing in a long series of him being a total ass. His teammates have always hated him and he’s only brought negative publicity with hime wherever he’s gone. There’s not some big conspiracy, people in the US are simply done with his diva bullshit.
@@TheHeadincharge Translation of @user-ig8dp9bs3l's post: Of course the Japanese know about Bauer's past. So, was there even one case in which he was convicted or arrested as a criminal? It's crazy to think that anyone can be convicted by saying, "He did terrible things to me." I think it is really shallow to criticize him or make fun of him when you don't know if it is true or not.
if you watch his videos you see someone experiencing the culture and people in a country and being honest about his own struggles. (disclosure, i'm from the UK) it's the kind of thing we don't get to see from pro athletes and it's excellent. he did a whole segment on how the muscles work in relation to throwing the ball and pitching hard. it might be a bit nerdy but it comes across really well and wanting to tell stuff that people don't see from traditional sources.
He was the most interesting player in MLB for all he's done to innovate training and in social media, and really the only player with an actual personality to speak of. He is such a wasted asset for the game. The MLB front office is a bunch of cretins, and the average 'fan' on twitter is a hateful devil, all because MLB sent some nameless prostitutes after him to defame his name. American culture has become garbage. It's a minority to be sure, but that minority is in power.
I think everything he went through was politically motived. He made a lot of enemies in MLB by being so open and critical of the league. Even his teammates didn't like him because of it. So it wouldn't be surprising if someone in the league paid these women to make false allegations against him
He didn't get sent to the minors for poor performance. NPB doesn't work the same way as the MLB. He was going to have to miss a start because of a conflict between the schedule and the pitching rotation, so he took an opportunity to play one game with the minor league team so he didnt miss a start. Also, he appears to get along well with his teammates, and the fans love him (even non-Bay Stars fans).
@@richardcharles4126 I think the most damning piece of evidence against him is that he couldn’t get along with Terry Francona. If you can’t get along with Tito there’s something seriously wrong with you.
Prior to this season, I probably never gave Trevor Bauer a second thought. He didn't play for any of my favorite teams, and his antics seemed to be a bit overblown. His exposing of the sticky stuff scandal seemed to earn a lot of hate for him, and I found it highly convenient that the allegations against him came out not long after. Even still, I didn't really pay much attention, up until the point he signed to play in the NPB. I've always been interested in baseball in Japan, and started watching his videos to get a glimpse of what I've been missing out on. I can honestly say now that I've become a fan of his. The videos he puts out are excellent, giving very detailed information on how he gets ready for games, what he does in his free time, and oh, you can't talk about him without mentioning his glove reviews. Seriously, he gives the absolute best reviews, putting product reviewers for a lot of other products to shame. I'm rooting for him and wishing him success.
He didn't expose the sticky stuff issue, nor was it a "scandal." MLB knew it was going on, fans knew, players knew, but it was one of those "we're all doing it, so we don't really care and it keeps batters somewhat safer" things. The rule against foreign substances had been in place for decades.
Bauer has great content, and is great content. Watching Bauer succeed in Japan is like watching that movie "Mr. Baseball" all over again. His youtube page is also pretty awesome. Its not only his amazing pitching knowledge but how he goes about setting up his body to be at its best for every start. He really is pretty scientific about all aspects of baseball. I encourage people to check it out, it will really change your perspective on the guy.
Trevor Bauer's channel is absolutely fascinating. He shows what being a professional athlete actually entails in great detail. His channel has singlehandedly made me a fan of NPB. Yokohama Chozen!
Lars Nootbaar's mother put it best: Baseball is like a religion over in Japan. Seems like it's significantly more popular over in Japan than it is here in the US.
He is working hard. We can tell he loves baseball. There are always some foreign players who come to Japan who look down on Japan and don't try to fit in. We don't feel that way about him. It's neither cowardly nor arrogant, it's very natural. He is humanly cute.
Every time I watch some of his videos fans are coming up asking for pictures and he always seem happy. Then they all bow at him a bunch of times. Baseball is big over there it seems.
@@dcoker9738 I never really thought about it. But I never have heard anything about Soccer and Rugby over there. Bigger than Baseball? Of course, on a global scale.

What blows my mind to bits is the fact that MLB suspended Trevor Bauer for 2 entire seasons of play all because of "allegations" as well as a couple of salty teams & managers. Whereas Alex Rodriguez has done steroids, cheated in every way possible, lied, etc. & yet the worst suspension he ever got was only HALF of that.
@@sfdko3291 Honestly I think the 2 go hand in hand, not trying to start a debate though but fair enough. The main point for me is that Arod has done far worse things than Trevor Bauer up until this point & yet he only got 1 season's worth.

You do not need to be found guilty of sexual assault in court for me to say that his behavior was inappropriate
Idk why people keep saying he was sent down, he put himself down to get more playtime because the game he was suppose to pitch got weather delayed and therefor had to wait I think it was like 7-14 days before his next start.
@@erikheathnat3212 yeah literally. It didn't take me long to realize that this guy has clearly not watched any of Bauer's behind the scenes explanations of various things such as the minor league start and the "conflict" about the sword celebration.
But side note, that Bauer fan club idea is amazing. Most teams could probably do something similar to their star players and they’d sell out. Imagine how many people would do that for someone like Acuña, Judge, Ohtani, etc etc.
The information in the video is not totally correct about the fan club. The $15K price is only for the highest tier and only a few of those are available. There is a regular tier that is $2380. The regular one gets you invited to special events, an autographed official Jersey, Bauer Outage apparel, signed ball in a case and official fan club plaque.
Japan understand what the NBA and NFL does here- you can market individual players and create brands away from the team. Player empowerment is low in baseball bc of old school attitude and its really missing out. When people complain about baseball not have strong coverage- let the players market themselves. But also I hate Bauer and wish he was in jail so not him
Whatever his reputation in the United States, there is no rule that Japan must follow suit. NPB and Japanese baseball fans see and appreciate Trevor Bauer for what he is. And we don't want other countries to interfere in any evaluation. The NPB saw value in Shohei Ohtani as a pitcher and hitter, developed him as a two-way player, and helped him pursue his dream of making it to the MLB. Likewise, if Trevor Bauer wants his team to win the NPB title, he just wants to see it.
He was the only MLB player with a personality. Also an important innovator in baseball and off the field. All thrown out because he called out corruption and some random prostitute tried to defame him. Baseball has always been full of egos and dumb rules, which is why he had such a hard time before turning pro. MLB/conformist fans think players throwing bats, making teams as foreign as possible, and having Pride Night is revolutionary but in reality Bauer was revolutionary within the game with mechanics and antics, and also off the field with his youtubing.
Do you know why Japan loves him? Because he's an American baseball player playing there in Japan. The fandom weebs here in the states have for anime and disconnect from actual Japan culture is the exact same fascination Japanese baseball fans have for literally any American who played in the big leagues playing over there. They don't care about the allegations, because beating women and children behind closed doors is still acceptable in that society.
@@Jaberdoodle can you reference a court case with a verdict of not guilty? Every court case is public record. Not too hard to find if you're so sure of it.
Trevor Bauer wants to combine baseball and pitching techniques with physics and always improve them, so even when he comes to Japan, he exchanges information with excellent Japanese pitchers. For those who think that even professional baseball is a money game, Trevor Bauer, who wants to pursue the truth through baseball, will be uncomfortable. We Japanese love him because we know instinctively that he has the potential to further deepen Japanese professional baseball.
I'm a BayStars fan, and yeah he's putting in the work, took some time for him to adjust as expected but his pitching is great below the 100 pitches. He's showing dedication and strong spirit, Japanese fans love that, even though he ends up throwing way beyond his limit, and compromises the team.
Also to add on, he wasn’t sent down the minors due to “poor performance”. Bauer stated in his video that he wanted to throw on a certain schedule every few days. He went down so he could throw that game.
Is that team he's on any good? That one play looked worse than tee ball fielding. I'd be livid as well. I was livid as a 5 year old and at a 5 year old.
The Japanese are genuinely impressed by his essential "way of tackling baseball with an uncommon amount of passion. He has something in common with Ichiro and Otani, the only difference being whether his outpouring is static or dynamic. The scene in the game against the Chunichi Dragons, which was also shown in the video, is a reasonable argument from the pitcher's point of view. It was just that the outburst was dynamic, just like him, so it stood out more than it should have. Above all, it would be unfair to turn a blind eye to the fact that, even after all that turmoil, he still wears the blue uniform of Yokohama and continues to make efforts to make the city a champion city. It is unfair to report the fact that he is living a full life far away from the city where he was once so tormented, but it is still unfair to twist the facts to make a vicious accusation.
No, the primary reason other MLB teams didn't sign Bauer because Rob Manfraud has more power and influence than previously thought, public backlash is secondary...add in Bauer having an overall bad reputation with other players(he's not " old school " enough), he had to go overseas to play(doubt he'd have wanted to play in Mexico/Central & South America)
Theres not a ton of money in affiliated and independent leagues in latin america. Combine that with the unfavorable weather and possible living arrangements and i could see why he would rather spend a year in japan- or rather why he wouldn't have received offers from them.
It's not that he's "not old school" he's a whiny entitled egotistical brat. Maybe you guys didn't hear all the stories but as a lifelong indians fan, I promise you he can be all of those things
Rob Manfred is the owner's pet, he has zero influence on this. It's 100% public backlash or should I say, media backlash. The first team that signs him will be hounded by headlines like "[MLB TEAM] SIGNS RAPIST!" "[MLB TEAM] PROMOTES MISOGYNY" and so on.
The Japanese love passion and spirit. I've been stationed in Japan for a few years now and the culture surrounding baseball is more akin to college football in America. The crowd feeds off energy and the team feeds off the crowd. The crowd never stops cheering no matter what and it's incredible. A great example of giving everything your all. Body and soul. That's why Trevor is thriving in Japan. American sports media absolutely hate it when players show any personality at all. Especially if they show any enjoyment about overcoming an opponent. Combine that with some piss poor journalism in America coupled with a motive to absolutely ruin Trevor's rep, you get some absolute bullshit. I still enjoy major league baseball but the media surrounding it is just so awful.
His insights for the game of baseball are very entertaining to watch on his vlogs. Brings me back to when I used to play. I was never at his level, but with the technology and data he uses to improve his game, it's brought a whole new dimension to the sport I love. Gotta give him credit for that.

We love what he is doing in Japan right now. I know you have your opinions, but aren't we the ones who decide who loves who? I love watching him pitch, so I hope he continues to play an active role. I want you to stay in Japan forever.
Controversial implies there's two sides. The opinion OJ killed Jessica is pretty unanimous, and the only reason he really got off was because there was a majority-African American jury and this trial was in light of the LA race riots in the 90s. The 30 for 30 documentary is pretty comprehensive in its analysis of it.
@@richardtherichard26 clearly you mentioning a player that played in the 70s and was notorious for something in the 90s, bringing up the 80s means you have no clue on the fucking subject. He just made a video fully exposing the women who sued him and explained everything. The lawsuits are officially over and he should be able to resign this off-season.
No team will sign him. They're too worried about the "MeToo" crowd protesting. All the GMs and players are chicken shit scumbags. Because none of them will stand up for Trevor or sign him. All the fan club stuff is common in Japan for all major athletes in every popular sport. You should look into Sumo fan clubs sometime. Also, whether or not you’re being actively prosecuted makes a big difference in Japan. And if found guilty of almost anything, there’s generally no way back. At the accusation stage, the public generally stays neutral.
The fact you never even mentioned (Edit* talked about) the LARGEST PART of this story, him calling out the MLB for turning a blind eye to cheating, is a major oversight at best. It cause me to wonder if it’s not intentional.
For 1 second. It’s such a quick glance and doesn’t explain the overall picture. If your going to paint a overall picture of the player I think the person could have dug a little deeper.
@@Advent787b true, him calling out the mlb definitely sparked so much discussion in the baseball community. Nobody has had the courage ever since to be as outgoing about it.

The accusations were a convenient excuse and I wouldn’t be surprised if those women were encouraged to make them by the league through some back door dealings.
Nah, this is a crock. If MLB was gonna blackball him for foreign substances, he wouldn't have had the Dodgers, Mets, and other teams bidding for his services. The Dodgers cut him as soon as his suspension was up because the optics of having an accused rapist/documented woman beater on your active roster aren't great, regardless of the outcome of Bauer's legal proceedings.
@@Panasonicy0uth your argument might hold water if there weren’t multiple players in the MLB accused of domestic violence but are still playing. Remember a few weeks ago when everyone was going crazy for Domingo German’s perfect game? Julio Urias still pitches for the Dodgers and he actually got charged unlike Bauer
Orange man supporter, that's why. He's also supposedly an a-hole to reporters, who get to direct the narrative, so clearly not learning from Curt Schilling's hall candidacy, continued to speak his mind when he could've waited until he got his plaque in the ahll. He's clearly not smart at making personal decisions too, considering whether he sexually assaulted any or all of those 4 women or not, he did sleep with 4 women crazy enough to claim he assaulted them. Bauer should have just worn a chastity belt and taken it off when he got his plaque in Cooperstown. Now, he's playing in Japan for a fraction of the pay and fame. That penis of his cost him probably $100 million. World's most expensive penis right there.
he really does seem to be having fun playing ball in Japan. Good for him. Training methods being found to be quite effective even in the worst light probably feels nice. Like him or not his passion for baseball is undeniable .
Honestly as an American I want the NPB to grow larger than the mlb. The passion, the media, the culture, everything about it is better than the ridiculous cash sucking beast that is the mlb. I mean look at this season and all it’s controversies. They treat the sport like a joke compared to the NPB putting their heart on the line. Thank you Trevor for bringing us into the world of real baseball and I hope you continue to thrive as I will be there every step of the way
@@RunRoss the thing is they focus on sucking cash instead of putting a better product on the field which isn’t as much of a problem in NPB. They also compete in the wbc putting their best players instead of randoms for “injury prevention” I believe it’s a more respectable league
MLB will end up like The FA in soccer, a former pinnacle authority of the sport that got left behind in complacency when the international game appealed better and struck better capital lines to rise, lest attitude changes in owners about making an culturally engaging product instead of a quick buck or sensationalism for the sake of boosting merchandise sales.
NPB fans really would like to say thank you to Trever Bauer. He is a youtuber and gave us something special inside team and his make-up via his video. It's a very brand new approach to us and enjoy watching his Vlog every Sunday morning in Tokyo Time Zone.
He’s a big personality and a great pitcher. He brings a lot of excitement to the game. In terms of his issues off the field, it seems like they are just trying to get paid IMHO.
@@PlaySA You don't need a to be a legal expert to see a bunch of women trying and failing to extort money from someone and also failing at bringing him down in court.
That’s why I said in my honest opinion. Its funny to see how upset you were. However, maybe I should be a lawyer, because the facts show he’s not guilty. I also liked your use of the word scintillating - it made you seem smart, but as the facts show….
@@PlaySA You're literally a joke. All those claims on sexual assault are fake and women just wanting to get a payday because they weren't happy. Media is crazy for making this become so big and he lost a lot because of those false allegations.
Sad thing is we all know he didn’t sexually assault anyone. But once one person “claims” that they were sexually assaulted and others see the media attention and the publicity, many more will “claim” he sexually assaulted them. This is the case for many and it won’t change until the people who make false claims are punished the same.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if these women were paid to accuse him. We all know that he made a lot of enemies in MLB with his criticisms of the league and of the juiced balls. He also had a lot of teammates who didn't like him. And all it takes is one woman to make a false allegation, and then predictably other women will join, probably smelling money in the water.
And the media loves to report on sensational claims like this. Look at Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Justice won out, but in the media, men are guilty until proven innocent, and there is no apology from the media.
Any woman assaulted by a wealthy man will NEVER be believed. No matter how many may come forward. No matter you needed medical attention. No matter his past of disrespect towards so many. It is ok for a wealthy/ famous man to get away with beating a woman. This guy is a jerk on and off the field.
It's funny how in the US he is looked at this narcissistic evil annoying violent devil, and in Japan he is looked as a hard working charismatic athlete lol To give some context, people in Japan were in favor because at that time Baystar was around a game or so behind the 1st place Hanshin Tigers. We've been away from Championship for some time, always ending up a little short, when we know we got the talent for it. (Especially when we lost against the Hawks in the Nippon Series... that stung man...) Lots of fans took that "Wake up" as a wake up call to become a championship team. We all thought felt like he was trying to inject some of that winning mentality to other teammates. Knowing this will make a huge difference in how you comprehend that yelling. He is just trying to win. That's all. Hope he does well in Japan so well that the MLB team just cannot pass on his existence anymore lol Would love to see that tipping point
I mean, the guy’s an asshole and has always been an asshole. That doesn’t mean you can’t like him, but this narrative that he’s just this nice guy who works hard is ludicrous. The guy’s been a dickhead and a troll since the start and other players have always disliked him. It’s still absolutely wild, for example, how many people still believe that “BD911” didn’t mean what we all know it meant. Bauer has done that constantly. His interactions with that girl on Twitter were also pretty fucking appalling and once again, people still defend that bullshit. He’s a great pitcher, but he’s just an asshole.
@@warlordofbritannia I would rather cheer for the guy if he doesn't perform than become a write for the Athletic and start criticizing, so I have no interest in that.
People just hate on Bauer for claims that were thrown into the trash by the courts. Bauer is one of the most passionate players of the game and loves to learn about the game
All these coaches and trainers hated him for ignoring their training suggestions and sticking with his own training routine that helped him go pro. From the beginning he had been stuck with the reputation of being "uncoachable" and a "diva." He also got into a ton of trouble for calling out all the pitchers who keep using illegal substances in 2018. Hes right though, as the only way for any pitcher to increase their fastball's spin rate is with foreign substances, specifically pine tar. So it was the combination of pissing off coaches and catchers with his training routine, and the MLB commissioners office on his Twitter crusade against pitchers using foreign substances, that when the bs sexual assault charges came along, they suspended him. Even after they were all dropped, the League still banned him for so many games. They just wanted to send a message to the other players what they would do to them if they ever tried to show them up. Its sad though that the players union didnt stick up for Trevor Bauer.
Japanese people try to be the best in any field.Even after coming to Japan, Mr. Bauer is trying to understand and adapt to Japanese baseball. The Japanese respect Mr. Bauer's intellectual approach.
"I am a Japanese person living in Japan.Until his arrival in Japan, he was scarcely covered by the media here. The information that Japanese people knew was that he had won the Cy Young Award, and there seemed to have been some issues in America, but the details were not well-known. It is not the case that issues related to women are taken lightly in Japan. In fact, a Japanese NPB player became major news due to a women-related matter in May of this year. One of the reasons for his popularity is RUclips, which helped spread his presence to the general public through social media. His approach to Japan is also a factor in his popularity. Generally, Japanese people have a fondness for Westerners. His positive impression has contributed to this. Moreover, he has achieved significant success as a baseball player. All these factors make him popular in Japan. He is a Cy Young Award-winning pitcher who excels in baseball while also engaging in RUclips streaming.
I wouldn't be surprised if he takes an offer that's less than half of what he made in the US. He's already made a ton of money, and he seems to legitimately enjoy pitching in Japan way more than the US. He might just take the best offer he can get in Japan and run with it.
Truthfully, he's just a big nerd. That grates on some athletes here in the US. In Japan, it's just normal. I wouldn't be surprised if nobody showed interest in Bauer because he wanted to play in Japan, and Chalupa (Rachel Lupa, his manager) poisoned it by asking for more than the league minimum. If he does stay over there and lives happy, more power to him.
As a Yank living in Japan who wants to go watch and appreciate his play, I hope he stays here, too. I know I only planned to stay for a few years but it's been almost 20 now. Japan's much saner and kinder than the U.S. is now.
Bauer is trying to adapt to NPB. He has respected Japanese pitchers many times in his RUclips videos and Japanese fans also respect him as a baseball player.
The biggest issue for Trevor is American Baseball shines light on great players who uphold the unrealistic “good guy” standards. Think of Bryce Harper Vs someone like Mookie Betts. Mookie’s the favorite for a LOT of people. In Japan, they just want you to be best at baseball. They don’t care about your creed, they care about how you play the game that they love. In a few ways though, I guess your opinion on Bauer likely lines up with your feelings on the “unspoken rules” I’m on the side of Bauer is a great player, and the unspoken rules ruin modern baseball.
If you watched his videos you would know he was sent down so he could pitch more innings, he didn’t want to miss a start due to a off week. Was not sent down due to performance.
Honestly, good for Trevor. He's being apreciated for his skills and he's playing in Japan. It's certainly better than the current state of American sports in general, where politics is eating it alive.
And if I was on a team with someone that makes as many stupid mistakes while telling himself he’s a god half the time out of laziness I’d blow up worst than he did and that’s coming from a reds fan
This whole mis-characterization of "And no MLB team wanted the risk of signing him with all of his legal baggage, even for the league minimum" is a bit disingenuous. When he got Released from the Dodgers, he's still getting paid by the Dodgers through the rest of the term of the contract. If another MLB team does sign him, they could pay him League Minimum, and the Dodgers would still be on the hook for (Original Salary) minus (League Minimum), meaning he would still be getting $20 or $30 Million for the year, and the only way he could make more money is if some team was going to sign him for a deal worth more than the Dodgers' deal. That just was NOT going to happen. I'm sure his agent was fielding interest from MLB teams, but the agent was probably very frank in their discussion with teams and said "unless your offer is going to supersede the current Dodgers contract, we're not interested." But, by going to Japan, he's able to keep getting his Dodger deal, PLUS the BayStars $4 Million for the year. Why would you NOT go to Japan in a situation like this? The US media is so quick to paint him as persona non grata in any clubhouse in MLB, but people have looked passed far more serious accusations when it comes to someone that can perform on the field of play.
No matter what you do, everyone is going to perceive you in a different way. It gets more spotlight because Trevor Bauer is a celebrity, but it's part of life. All you can do is continue living, just like Bauer has.
It's not hard to understand why he's popular. Think about it from a NPB fan's perspective. If you're a NPB fan, why wouldn't you want to see how a Cy Young winner would pitch in your league? And with his vlogs he's shown he's taking the NPB competition seriously, which, again, NPB fans are bound to appreciate.
The American media has made their money by only telling stories that fits their narrative. Can’t have any critical analysis or free thought. That stuff doesn’t sell.
Standard operating procedure for the mainstream media in the US. When they want to make someone or something look bad, they'll go out of their way to do it. Now, think about this: if they are willing to go this hard on a baseball player that hasn't been arrested, had no charges, no solid evidence against him (especially when compared to other players that have BLATANTLY beat their wives, yet they are STILL playing in MLB), then what else are they lying about?
Also he wasn’t brought down to minors because he did bad. It was the weird rotation in Japan he wouldn’t pitch for the next week. Baystars not wanting to keep him cold brought him down just for one game so he can stay warm and immediately then brought him up. Realistically he’s actually really controversial and I wouldn’t necessarily trust the sport media that he’s suing and the tuff translation to Japanese to English all to well. If you look at his stats he’s pitching extremely well and most times in his game it’s unearned runs that he gives up. If you being honest he never was convicted, his stats are good, and it seems to me Japan loves him for a good reason.
if people just watched his yt channel you learn why he dose these thing or this thought process through games its crazy to hear all these things and people arnt doing there full research
The performance of Mr. Trevor Bauer governing the sword may be offensive to Americans, but from the Japanese perspective, it is interpreted as saying that he has put away his sword, so he won't hurt you any more. All Japanese love him because he looks like the reincarnation of a Japanese samurai.
You need to change the title of the video because he is hated in Japan right now So many people in Japan are pissed off at him because of his recent comments on instagram
Yeah, it's pretty funny how poorly this video aged but it was honestly just a matter of time until Bauer pissed off the NPB and Japanese fans too. Dude really sucks at just going out and playing baseball (the one thing he actually gets paid to do).
@@Edacity An American Navy officer killed 2 Japanese citizens in a reckless driving incident. The US arranged for his transfer out of Japan and back to the US. Bauer put out a "Welcome Home" message in response which upset Japanese fans and guaranteed he wasn't going to get another NPB contract. He's now pitching in the LMB in Mexico.
Leaving this comment here while watching, but Bauer was not sent down to the minors due to poor performance. It was a timing issue. Also, he had MLB teams contact him, but he saw the opportunity and money better in Japan. I know this from people close to him.
I'm glad he's doing well in Japan. When it first happened i thought his career was over, but it seems like it was the best decision he could've taken. I can think of a myriad of teams that could've used his services in 2023. I bet the Dodgers are wishing they could have him right about now, with that decimated rotation they have.
Trevor Bauer is extremely intelligent and inquisitive.Despite winning great awards in the American major leagues, even when I come to Japan, I try to exchange information with excellent players who will eventually go to the major leagues and try to improve each other. All Japanese respect him because he tries to do his best in any environment. He may be the reincarnation of a Japanese samurai. That is why we Japanese instinctively have a sense of closeness and respect for him.
I don’t know if Bauer assaulted a woman/ women or not. But I 100% believe the only reason his penalty was so harsh is because he was so vocal about sticky stuff and practically single handedly thrust it into the media eye.
@breadandcircuses8127 a footnote, Yokohama BayStars has a female owner.
@breadandcircuses8127 Having to deal with less haters :D
This video sounds like hate against Bauer.
I live in Japan and he actually has pitched very well. He’s had a couple bad starts like most pitchers do, but it’s funny how the only times I see his name on western media it only highlights his bad starts, but he’s actually been really good here.
Goes to show how media is around here. They only care about what would bring in the most views. Not what’s accurate 😢
Yep
Sword celebration is also a non-issue. Stateside media only covers the negative. When there isn’t any negative, they make it up.
Most Baystars fans were happy about Bauer being pissed- the fans and Bauer want a championship more than the rest of the team.
I saw that
Ya the "sent down to minors" story was actually just keeping him pitching due to rain outs and weird game days.

Amen!
Technically its already been approved by a Japanese player years ago. Tsutsugo consulted him on it cause he changed the side he sheaths the sword to be consistent with Japanese practices.
He doesn't get backlash. Not from Japanese players or fans.
that story about a teammate having an issue with his sword celebration was a bunch of bullshit anyways. the player that they reported as calling it "disrespectful" literally gifted a Japanese katana to Trevor after one of his first starts

I'm a Blue jays fan, and that stat line reminds me of Yusei Kikuchi! This season, Yusei is 7-3 with a 4.13 era but also with the most allowed home runs in the American League. I love both players, and I'm glad that for his first season Bauer has been doing pretty well all things considered
he needs some more games and time to improve his command back to his level. of course he did not pitch for two years and this is understandable.
In America they worry about the bet theyare against their own team.
Duh hes going to lead the league in homers. Hes a fly ball pitcher. He throws alot of off speed pitches.
Most of those home runs came when he was still adjusting to the league. It’s not really relevant as of right now.
Honestly, he seems way happier now, so good for him
Trevor Bauer has his own channel and posts videos about his games in Japan and it’s actually interesting.
Dude puts the work in. And explained why he went to the minors
I wake up every Sunday and it’s the first thing I watch, love baseball and Japan so getting to watch both in English is awesone
It's enjoyable to watch
I am subbed and like to watch it
As a Japanese person. We appreciate passion and hard working ethic and spirit. It's just our culture.

It's crazy to think that anyone can be convicted by saying, "He did terrible things to me."
I think it is really shallow to criticize him or make fun of him when you don't know if it is true or not.
if you watch his videos you see someone experiencing the culture and people in a country and being honest about his own struggles.

He didn't expose the sticky stuff issue, nor was it a "scandal."

No team would allow Ohtani to pitch and hit until he threatened to leave for the MLB.

The scene in the game against the Chunichi Dragons, which was also shown in the video, is a reasonable argument from the pitcher's point of view. It was just that the outburst was dynamic, just like him, so it stood out more than it should have.

Media is crazy for making this become so big and he lost a lot because of those false allegations.
ive never watched a single minute of baseball in my life, but I love the way you present these stories. Keep it up my guy
Please, explain how you know
The copium is real lol
Any woman assaulted by a wealthy man will NEVER be believed. No matter how many may come forward. No matter you needed medical attention. No matter his past of disrespect towards so many. It is ok for a wealthy/ famous man to get away with beating a woman. This guy is a jerk on and off the field.
I don't even watch baseball and I can't stop watching your videos. Your editing style and engagement is top tier, some of the best I've ever seen.

It's funny how in the US he is looked at this narcissistic evil annoying violent devil, and in Japan he is looked as a hard working charismatic athlete lol
To give some context, people in Japan were in favor because at that time Baystar was around a game or so behind the 1st place Hanshin Tigers. We've been away from Championship for some time, always ending up a little short, when we know we got the talent for it. (Especially when we lost against the Hawks in the Nippon Series... that stung man...)
Lots of fans took that "Wake up" as a wake up call to become a championship team.
It’s only been half a season and he’s pitching well. Let’s see how much they still love him when he does poorly.
Not all of us Americans eat up the media bs so easily, but I can unfortunately see why we have that reputation.
@@warlordofbritannia I would rather cheer for the guy if he doesn't perform than become a write for the Athletic and start criticizing, so I have no interest in that.
@@nalgene2474 allegations are all fake? Sure…
@@Slayer8957this comment right here folks^
Fr the more I read the hate for him on reddit I think those people are morons who failed pre-k
Japanese people try to be the best in any field.Even after coming to Japan, Mr. Bauer is trying to understand and adapt to Japanese baseball. The Japanese respect Mr. Bauer's intellectual approach.
About time we update this video 😂
Japanese fans are starting to worry that no teams in NPB can afford him for the next season.
I wouldn't be surprised if he takes an offer that's less than half of what he made in the US. He's already made a ton of money, and he seems to legitimately enjoy pitching in Japan way more than the US. He might just take the best offer he can get in Japan and run with it.
I honestly hope he stays in Japan. He is loved there and he seems to be much happier there as well.
We here in America don't deserve him.
If u watched this video u would know the same
Honestly, good for Trevor. He's being apreciated for his skills and he's playing in Japan. It's certainly better than the current state of American sports in general, where politics is eating it alive.
Hahahaha. Trump lives in your head rent free. He tells you what you can and can’t enjoy, because reasons!
If my teammates made that many stupid mistakes back to back, I would also be screaming uncontrollably
For real tho.
And if I was on a team with someone that makes as many stupid mistakes while telling himself he’s a god half the time out of laziness I’d blow up worst than he did and that’s coming from a reds fan
Yet Bauer made the mistskes
I'm sure his agent was fielding interest from MLB teams, but the agent was probably very frank in their discussion with teams and said "unless your offer is going to supersede the current Dodgers contract, we're not interested."
But, by going to Japan, he's able to keep getting his Dodger deal, PLUS the BayStars $4 Million for the year.
Japan??? Mexico loves Trevor too!!!!! This pitcher is great!!!
He went wild in Japan and in Mexico, literally winning awards
It’s crazy that since he’s been in Japan I’ve heard about all the negative stuff but none of the positive stuff.
That's what happens when you're a bad person. We're not gonna highlight and praise him doing positive things when he should be in prison
That's how the US media works now. Once you are accused, then they have to follow the narrative that you're automatically guilty.

It's ironic that he is now the most hated American in Japan Lol
The performance of Mr. Trevor Bauer governing the sword may be offensive to Americans, but from the Japanese perspective, it is interpreted as saying that he has put away his sword, so he won't hurt you any more. All Japanese love him because he looks like the reincarnation of a Japanese samurai.
You need to change the title of the video because he is hated in Japan right now
So many people in Japan are pissed off at him because of his recent comments on instagram
Yeah, it's pretty funny how poorly this video aged but it was honestly just a matter of time until Bauer pissed off the NPB and Japanese fans too. Dude really sucks at just going out and playing baseball (the one thing he actually gets paid to do).
what did he say?
Coming back to this video is a little funny considering he himself got ran out of Japan as well
Love Bauer man glad you covered this ❤
he isnt guilty he is a innocent man⚔⚔
What happened to the Dallas Braden video?? It was taken down when I was half way through it
Your videos are really well, please make more more often.
外人ウケ狙って侍とか言うな😂
Bauer is a legend - one which will never get the recognition, more importantly the justice, that he deserves.
Japan knows he’s innocent
It’d be cool to see you do a deep dive into the Japanese high school baseball tournament.
I love his RUclips channel. SWORD! 🗡️
I don’t know if Bauer assaulted a woman/ women or not.
But I 100% believe the only reason his penalty was so harsh is because he was so vocal about sticky stuff and practically single handedly thrust it into the media eye.
His getting blackballed 100% was for calling them out not for the failed accusations
