Crowbar's are actually very useful, can tear clothes into rags, make bone hooks, open cans, mine stones etc. Obviously you still need a knife but it can help your knife go further, or can be used to get the stones for a stone knife.
Great point about crowbar being both bladed and blunt for crafting purposes. I like to keep stones on me when fresh spawn as they take up one space and can turned into a knife if your better one gets ruined.
Bought this game and Livonia DLC for $33.somechange OMFG THIS GAME IS AMAZING! Thanks for all the help. I have two dudes one on official the other on Aftermath. Absolutely video gaming at its best.
I was about to leave the exact same comment until I seen yours. Starting out crowbars are lifesavers because of what you mentioned. Cutting up clothes and you can cut up way more rags with the crowbar before it ruins than a knifes. Plus mining stones to make knives. And carry one extra stone so you can make a knife using only one bone instead of two. If Im just starting out I always pick up a crowbar if I find one.
Start up focus guide: 1.Knife (Sledgehammer/Hammer/Crowbar - hit rock OR combine 2 bone) 2. Rags (sharp items INCLUDING crowbar) 3. Rope (Combine 2 full stacked rags “6” to make rope or cut cuts) These are the ESSENTIALS to start off, and crowbar is HIGHLY HIGHLY valuable for fresh spawning. Demonstration: Use knife to cut (damage or utility) use rags for hand wraps or (PVP) footwraps. Use rope to make belt for knife to save inventory room (bone knife and stone knife not available to be held in belt) once you have these, you can use rope (even untie rope belt) to make fishing rod and catch fish on your way north, and can use bones from fishing to always have a knife indefinitely. All that is mentioned above is why chickens or roosters are 100% none argument winnable are essential in starting. They are extremely common on coast, and can now be carried in inventory to be cut up once you find an obvious sharp object in a shed. Once cut up, they provide all 3 essentials listed above AND FOOD!!!!! Great hunting/surviving! Hope I helped.
“Cooking can be dangerous at times..” You can craft a fireplace in a shed, dry off, get your heat buff, cook AND there’s no smoke trail to give yourself away. Great info all around!
Finally someone who just shows raw footage with no cuts. Most youtubers try explaining without showing the whole process. Thanks for the simple and detailed explanation on how to play the game! 😊
Minor point, but I always turn my rope into a rope belt. Gets the rope & knife out of your inventory, which saves 6 slots. If you end up needing the rope to make a bag or fish with or whatever else you can just untie it and use it for whatever you need, then turn it back into a belt when you're done. The tying & untying doesn't appear to affect the durof the rope as far as i can tell
Hey! Just taking this opportunity to stop lurking a moment and say a heartfelt "Thank you, Nitno!" for these types of videos. They have helped me on my journey to feel like I'm making progress in DayZ. I'm now reliably able to make it off the coast and into mid-tier areas. Much of the credit for that goes to you. I'm probably never going to be a PvP goddess, but I'm definitely getting better at survival. Again, thank you.
Honestly PvP is something that just takes practice. Dont be afraid to lose it all to get in those lessons, ya never know when it'll come or how but when it does... That first PvP win is a great feeling. Like an accomplishment. Plus the more you spawn on the coast the easier it gets lol
Just started playing Day Z yesterday. The way I’ve been playing seems so funny when I watch someone like you breeze through the early game. No more having an inventory full of nails and batteries whilst trying to locate a knife to skin the chicken I'm chasing with six zombies chasing me 😂. Great vid mate. Can’t wait to put it in to practice tomorrow.
@@Nitnomate what a difference your vid made. First go i had all my vitals full to the brim. So good to see after bumbling about on the brink of passing out. Managed to cook my chicken today n all. Happy days. Thanks again.
in my opinion , specially as a new player .. don't use a map , don't log out during nighttime either ... the fun part of DayZ is that it has no guide or map. Not knowing whats going on and having to figure things out for yourself as you go is basically the vibe of the game .. sure you will get lost and you'll probably die more often in the beginning but after a few runs you'll learn locations as you progress
I use map to locate where I am and give me a general direction. But do not use it for finding detailed spots just to make the adventure and discovery feeling. 👍🏼
No problem! Sometimes they will last a month or two at a time I believe. I still think they are worth checking out. I seem to have decent luck with them.
A survivor's stomach is the same size as a cooking pot, two liters of shared space for energy and water. The "stuffed stomach" warning comes in when the stomach is half full at one liter. Lastly, a sip from a water pump is 65mL. Higher level but good info.
Just started a few weeks ago on PS5. Thanks for all the videos I learned so much from them. Super appreciative. What ever musical loop you use in your typical videos has been stuck in my head now for days. Its not a bad thing and its super chill. Jazzy elevator music while learning how to craft a burlap backpack.
1:15 one small detail you missed though specially for new players is first person only and third person servers are separate meaning if you gear up on a first person only server and later on join a third person one it will not carry over and you will start as a fresh spawn
Namalak is wild. I don't suggest it for a new player... But I've met players that said they started on Namalak and only play it, probably taught them quick!
Just got the game and love the video! The 'here is what I am thinking' concept is great and much appreciated. Also, looking forward to Part 2. Please make more of these! ♥. Thank you.
This is my new favorite game, I still haven’t left coast. I was stuck in a cycle of staying on coast too long to find gear and dying and there is never really stuff on coast. but this video will help me
Great to hear! Yep getting off the coast I typically find better loot. There's always a chance that there's just one dude about 5 minutes ahead of you taking all the good stuff too, it happens.
Excellent video, great tips, and good reminders for those of us who've already played many hours. You present your information well, and your personality/voice is welcoming, but not over the top or distracting. Keep it up.
Just as WinTartanBelle mentioned. Thank you sooooo much for the guide, the way you show us everything is brilliant, so we are following you along. This is os helpful, and I greatly appreciate the effort. 14:25 I'll keep watching : ) loving it so far.
A really underrated food source is fruit tress tbh theres over 140 around the map at 1 time that's the main food source at the start i run a hardcore server and people struggle for food if there new to game but if your at least experienced you know fishing or hunting have the best results for food in my opinion
This is great... I know content like this helps a lot of players get ahead and most of the new players I've interacted with say it's beneficial. Though it's great info many have a hard time putting it all together in game without somewhere to "practice" and apply your lessons- To help them out a bit more I started a Bambi University with stations that are set up to let them try out a bunch of this stuff with an instructor. Helps cover the basics like essential crafting, melee combat (armed / unarmed), pistol / auto / hunting rifle shooting and a little early game beneficial knowledge like making the most use out of resources. I'll definitely link this video to my future students!
You should probably start doing tutoring sessions for new players. You could even charge a fee for it. I'd consider paying so that I could get up to speed with some help. The game is super unforgiving and as a lone player without the benefit of a team or squad mates it's especially hard to get going without getting shot to pieces 😂
New to DayZ and this is the first video that really helped me get on the right track. I’ll make sure to share this with any friends who pick up the game 💯
This is a fantastic video for DayZ beginners to watch. DayZ can be overwhelming at the beginning. This video does a great job highlighting the priorities for a freshy. Once again, Great Video Nitno!
Even with 3k hours in this game I still watch all your tutorials & how to guides. I tend to forget things over time & they're overall just a pleasure to watch. Keep up the great work my friend
You can use the crowbar to crafted rags as well....then make handwraps to protect your hands right away. And turn that rope into a belt to hold your knife to reduce inventory
To add, town zombies also spawn head wear, backpacks and knives along with food, also when checking a buildings safely, check behind the door right away when ever possible, alot of players like to camp out behind the door for a easy kill in the back. A Plate armor vest might sound good and is good safety but it is also the heaviest item to grab which results in very low stamina. If you can find one, grab a tatical backpack which normally spawn in the nw airfield, this back oack can ne used as a riot shield bc the pack is bullet proof, which is also the rarest item. last thing that is very important. Wear any mask or face protection at all times, alot of crazy olayers will secretly try and feed you human meat, with a mask it orevents it, as a result you first will throw up then after thirty minutes Koro will kick in and their is no cure, you historically start laughing and also get a twitch witch makes it hard to shoot. The more human meat eaten the worse Koro will be.
This was a great tutorial! Thanks! I've been hanging in that town for a bit, after a lot of battles inland i head to the coast to re-up on supplies. The threat level is low, and the fights are easier.
Never knew you can make a backpack with a Burlap sack, rope, and short sticks 😭😭 like man that’s the best tip I could’ve got thank you so much for making this vid Nitno, you’re gonna make some of runs so easy now
One of the nice things about it besides being craftable is it being small. You have limited space to store stuff but it is not so noticeable to others. That means you aren't so heavy and thus your ARE more quiet and have more stamina.
Hey! Good vid, keep them coming! Maybe a tour guide video. As a new Dayz player, my biggest challenge is finding my way around Chernarus. The landmarks guide would help a bunch!
0:50 Tin, bro. I am playing on a server with 25-50 players and didn't have PvP in a week 😂 3:30 I agree. I always find better loot on small towns. I looted Cherno hospital yesterday, and I only got a medical pack. But whenever I loot a field hospital I get a tons of medicin. 5:15 I sometimes make a swarm of zombies follow me (safe location like top of a car wreck or kill them with a sharpened stick from a window) then kill them and get enough food for a while.
The absolute best advice I ever received was - "Don't get attached to items & runs." You will die in DayZ......A LOT! But that is part of the experience & it's really not that bad starting over because you learn new things each death & maybe this go will have better stuff or a more memorable experience. Story time. I will never forget the first time I ran into a friendly player. We stuck together for almost 5 hours straight before a group of cannibals ambushed us, tied us up, took most of our gear & force fed us "fresh meat" before letting us go. My new friend couldn't handle the thought of being a cannibal & decided to crowbar himself while I was out looking for replacement gear. "I'm sorry my friend. I can go on knowing what human tastes like.....Find them, make them pay." Radio silence. Rest in piece Henry.........you were delicious.
Reminds me of another game. Fallout 4. Almost all animals will attack you. Even bugs. Eating animal meat, even bugs, will keep you alive. Raw is low value food that has radiation. Cooked is higher value food and no rads. Some players can't handle eating bugs because it's "gross". Some players can't handle eating any animal meat at all. Survivors will eat any cooked animal meat, including bugs.
Love your how tos, even though I've played for months I always get something from them. One thing I've noticed though, is that you don't have to stand for the stealth kills, standing seems to be part of the animation. You do need to crouch again after the kill though. Maybe it's just me though. Thanks again, great vid, as always.
Hey! And also solid video for beginners. I’ll forward this on to some pals that my buddy and I are trying to convince to join us. Cheers and keep up with the awesome!!
Since they last updated the loot distribution, I've noticed chlorine tabs are more prolific than the containers we use to keep water in. I the only time I even bother with a pump, is sometimes to fill a jerry can to store in my farm stash. Yes, I know, you don't need potable water to plant crops... but I usually plant in tier 4 and let them grow while I sort loot, clean weapons, etc... so it's convenient to have water on-hand for the hour or so.
A good video overall but e.g. 19:25 - u got the opportunity to change your raincoat (20 slots) to a police jacket (30 slots) and you fail to do so. In the early game, being able to carry more is one of the key points and this seems like a an easy win you lost.
One thing that I always do is eat that first piece of fruit right away. There is no use holding on to it. It's not enough to keep you alive if you get in the red. It also usually adds a bit to your hydration level as well.
dont drop a rope for space early game... put in your hands and craft a belt. now you can even stow your knife in it! later if you need it for fishing or backpack or what ever put the belt in your hands and craft it back into a rope.
My first few to to things are hang around in corn fields and backs of string of houses, im after crowbar, screwdriver or knife, burlap sack, clothes, anything useful and after 5 min in areas mentioned i fill up with fruit or mushys..even rotten..rotten DOES not make u ill as quick as people think..eat 3 in quick successjon and 50/50 ill but why would you..eat in slow halves with few mins between stop when grumbly tum sign...rest as video...oh and the sack. Want rope and 3 sticks.. make burlap backpack thats good for ENTIRE GAME until find mountain/dry or 90one..then carry ur burlap.
HEY! Pretty good run. A few things I would have done different is swapped that blue rain coat for the black one you passed up, checked the hospital for any meds or paramedic clothes, and checked a few outhouses for sharpening stones for those knives. Great start though. What was the purple thing in the grass by the water pump?
What do you do when you can't find a vessel to carry your water? I have 100hrs or so and recently died while inland because I don't know where the wells are at and didn't have a plastic bottle or canteen
That can be tough. Vessels are bottles, canteens, cooking pots, and Jerrycans. Sometimes I'll empty then lug around a jerrycan filled with water till I find a better solution. Another trick is if you have a Tetra Pills, you can pop a pill preemptively then drink from a pond or stream, and you'll not get sick with cholera. I only do that in dire situations.
Excellent vid. What a start! I think I'd have made a load of rags with that saw you left. And I was seriously worried your knife would break. Can't do anything without a sharp edge. But I'm rubbish at this game, just my thoughts. You could have made a bone knife on a boulder though I think?
Thank you, good to know about which places to loot, especialy in the start I always feel like I should check every single corner for something valuable.
Understandable! Yeah no problem. It's a fine balance, between getting the essentials and overstaying your welcome. Spawn town DayZ really is a different beast than a few towns deeper into the map.
Very nice video! Ever really want a giggle; find a BRAND NEW player (30 hours) and give them a loaded KA, Field Backpack and Medium Tent. Watch them just flip lmao.
I just started dayz again. I always get hyped up and play it for like two weeks and then stop. I really need to give it time because something about it always brings me back. finally starting with modded servers and different maps as well as a new mindset and it feels good so far.
Nice to hear! Yeah it's really a game that takes time to break into, a lot of learning experiences, sometimes very frustrating. Glad to hear you keep coming back! That's what its all about.
People sleep on coast guns too much. Luck had me deep in land with a sporter and a pump. In between towns i came across a geared player, presumably fresh from a helicopter or nw, boiling some fish near a pond. One well placed 22 and a serving of buckshot later, all my looting was done for me.
Hey! I wish my starts were like that 😂 I just started playing but your videos have really help me so I don’t die on the coast and actually have fun playing 👍
Hey great fresh spawn vid. I would also add the color dots on the inventory quicker to know what ruined or not. I love following power lines it will allay take you somewhere.
I like power lines because you don't have to be right under them to follow them. I think they are safer than the roads, but even safer still when you follow them while in the nearby woods or brush. As long as you can see the power lines, you can follow them.
Great video. I've just started playing DayZ, have like 10 hours in the game and struggle sometimes with the start phase. Sometimes it's water, sometimes it's food, sometimes zombies but this video shows the way. Looking forward for Part 2. I do have a question though, from how far can other players hear footsteps or noises like gun reloading, healing, etc???
I play PVE only !! but your video's have taught me how to play the game. I have watched a ton of your video's in the past 2 weeks and i feel like a seasoned pro now.
One thing you can do with a rope is tie it into a belt, and with the rope belt you can put a knife on it. A very good way to optimize storage and even if you need rope to make a bag or fishing rod you can untie it to make a normal rope again
Just got this game a couple of days ago ! It’s really confusing, and every game I play , I found all towns looted, literally every door is already open 🙄
We have found out that if there is a rain and it stops, there are loads of apples on the ground. You might have apple trees next to you with nothing on the ground for you to pick, but after the rain you might be surprised of what you'll find! Probably rain knocks them down or something. Try it!
I think I'll make a part 2! Yep I know how you feel, I usually am more on the friendly side. After a certain point into the map its real hard to be friendly anymore.

I really appreciate that! Happy to help.
Thanks for your help! I’m a noob in the game and had a lot of questions, after looking into your videos they aren’t so many! Keep on the good work 💪🏻😃
Great to hear! Good luck out there!
Never knew you can make a backpack with a Burlap sack, rope, and short sticks 😭😭 like man that’s the best tip I could’ve got thank you so much for making this vid Nitno, you’re gonna make some of runs so easy now
Probably my favorite bag!
One of the nice things about it besides being craftable is it being small. You have limited space to store stuff but it is not so noticeable to others. That means you aren't so heavy and thus your ARE more quiet and have more stamina.
i gotta hand it to you. you reply to everyone and thank you for the tips
Anytime! I try to do my best haha!
Hey! Good vid, keep them coming! Maybe a tour guide video. As a new Dayz player, my biggest challenge is finding my way around Chernarus. The landmarks guide would help a bunch!
Thanks and good idea. I do have some "loot route" videos.
@@Nitno cool! I'll be sure to check them out!
0:50 Tin, bro. I am playing on a server with 25-50 players and didn't have PvP in a week 😂
3:30 I agree.
SuspiciousFreshy! Good seeing ya in the comments. Agreed on all points.
Excellent video, really clear, bought this game a while back but not played it yet so your starter guide is just perfect for me. Cheers 👌
Excellent! Good luck out there. Every life is a learning experience!
The absolute best advice I ever received was - "Don't get attached to items & runs."
You will die in DayZ......A LOT!
Great comment and story! 🙌 Love reading these
Reminds me of another game.
Good tip and thanks!
Hey! Great vid, as always! Only just got into DayZ this last month so your vids have been a huge help.
Awesome, glad I could help. Good luck out there Survivor.
Wonderful video. Love your vibe. I get so much out of watching you start fresh.
Thanks I appreciate that!
Hey! And also solid video for beginners. I’ll forward this on to some pals that my buddy and I are trying to convince to join us. Cheers and keep up with the awesome!!
Awesome, love to hear it!
Ahhh interesting
Hey man - great vid. Good for new people, and for us who has played it for a while, we can still learn a few things too 😄👍
Thanks I appreciate that!
I enjoyed this, it corroborated what I'd learnt watching streams of DayZ and taught me some new stuff too. Thank you.
Anytime John! Thanks for checking it out.
Good vid! I don’t have DayZ (yet). Thinking about getting started! Looks fun to me!
Nice! Yeah it's a bit of a steep learning curve, but if you are stubborn with it and stick around, it really does get "easier".
Nice video. I like the way you approach the game. I really enjoy watching you while im waiting for customers at work, thanks for the videos. 👍
Thanks Mike! Anytime.
A good video overall but e.g. 19:25 - u got the opportunity to change your raincoat (20 slots) to a police jacket (30 slots) and you fail to do so. In the early game, being able to carry more is one of the key points and this seems like a an easy win you lost.
It was overcast and I figured it would start raining, by 30:00 it had begun raining. I do get what yo mean though.
Staying dry as possible is also important because getting cold can kill you.
One thing that I always do is eat that first piece of fruit right away. There is no use holding on to it. It's not enough to keep you alive if you get in the red. It also usually adds a bit to your hydration level as well.
Great tip too! Thanks for the comment!
And you deprive the guy who kills you from the reward of a little bit of food.
@@edmartin875Absolutely. Fuck that guy.
On the other hand if I'm doing the killing how dare you deprive me of that food.
Hey thanks for the tips. Hoping to get DayZ next month so these tips are very helpful. Would love a second vid
Thanks and sure thing!
Really nice Video Nitno, keep up the good work
Thanks Sean, will do!
dont drop a rope for space early game... put in your hands and craft a belt. now you can even stow your knife in it! later if you need it for fishing or backpack or what ever put the belt in your hands and craft it back into a rope.
Good tip!
Good tips!
I find on console that stealth kills are easier in a full crouch run instead of slowing down. I struggled with them at first until I made that change.
Ahh good tip!
HEY! Pretty good run. A few things I would have done different is swapped that blue rain coat for the black one you passed up, checked the hospital for any meds or paramedic clothes, and checked a few outhouses for sharpening stones for those knives. Great start though. What was the purple thing in the grass by the water pump?
Thanks, all good advice there! I think that was a fireworks box that a player must have left there. Maybe the farmer who made the plot.
Good thoughts. Yup for sure, also bone knife by just combining bones
Something huge I learned from u is opening inventory to loot stuff, I just got dayZ and had no idea on how to loot a sombie
Nice! Haha happy to help!
Lmao me to I spawn in 2 die to hunger
I appreciate your calm direction, thanks.
Anytime!
That garden plot is from those special souls who leave it behind for others ❤
True, the farmers of the world!
hey
made it to the end, learned a lot from this video man, thanks
Hey hey! Good luck!
Very nice video! Ever really want a giggle; find a BRAND NEW player (30 hours) and give them a loaded KA, Field Backpack and Medium Tent. Watch them just flip lmao.
Haha! 😄
Great video as always. Surprised you didn't check outhouses. They spawns lots of good stuff.
Good thinking I should do more of that!
Awesome video! I have been playing DayZ for weeks and am trying so hard to love it😂. A lot of the tips will definitely help. Thanks dude 👊🏼
Happy to help! Good luck out there!
Also boy howdy that mic sounds SO GOOD
Thanks my friend!
That it does!
Personally I always make a rope from rags, try to get a burlap sack and three sticks after getting food/water
Good thinking for sure!
This game is so good i cant stop playing PC first person officials
Niceee! Good luck out there Survivor!
Moments like that are so good, well played!
Hey! I wish my starts were like that 😂 I just started playing but your videos have really help me so I don’t die on the coast and actually have fun playing 👍
Haha, yep not every run is like this :) enjoy!
Great starter video. I'm only at 30 hours but trying to get better, especially at food and Z management. Fun as hell though!
Awesome to hear, stick with it! I still learn with every death. Each life is new opportunity!
Was there ever a part two? Thought this video was fantastic.
Thanks man
Anytime!
Hey great fresh spawn vid. I would also add the color dots on the inventory quicker to know what ruined or not. I love following power lines it will allay take you somewhere.
Yep power lines are clutch!
I like power lines because you don't have to be right under them to follow them. I think they are safer than the roads, but even safer still when you follow them while in the nearby woods or brush. As long as you can see the power lines, you can follow them.
Great intro video! Can't wait for thr next installment.
Thanks Dwayne!
Hmm I'm not sure the exact distance on reload. I want to say like 30 feet.
I play PVE only !! but your video's have taught me how to play the game.
I have watched a ton of your video's in the past 2 weeks and i feel like a seasoned pro now.
That makes me so happy to hear, good luck out there survivor!!
One thing you can do with a rope is tie it into a belt, and with the rope belt you can put a knife on it. A very good way to optimize storage and even if you need rope to make a bag or fishing rod you can untie it to make a normal rope again
Great tip for sure!
The detail I needed this
Thanks for checking it out!
Definitely up for a Part 2!
Sounds like a plan!
Just got this game a couple of days ago ! It’s really confusing, and every game I play , I found all towns looted, literally every door is already open 🙄
It can really be rough getting started. Just stick with it. The deeper into the map you go it does get a bit easier to get loot.
We have found out that if there is a rain and it stops, there are loads of apples on the ground. You might have apple trees next to you with nothing on the ground for you to pick, but after the rain you might be surprised of what you'll find! Probably rain knocks them down or something. Try it!
Interesting! Apple a day!
I alway spawn in an area that has like 4 houses and then starve trying to get to a city
Hmm that's no good.
The moment you made that burlap backpack and ran out I immediately got upset that you left Mr.Qluckers in the shed all alone.😂
Mr.Qluckers 😂
Would looove to see a part 2, only have around 850 hours so mostly struggle mid - late game with other players because I'm too kind
I think I'll make a part 2! Yep I know how you feel, I usually am more on the friendly side. After a certain point into the map its real hard to be friendly anymore.
@@Nitno do you have any idea when your going to release pt2?
Don’t forget folks, 20 sips at a water pump equals 1 bottle of water drank.
Good tip!
I like early game. It's more fun than being kitted out, trying not to lose it all.
Agreed, I like early and mid the best while playing it a bit risky
Menn!! Thanks for this videos im a new player and im having some progress thanks to you!! Keep it up!!!
Thanks for the comment! Keep at it, good luck Survivor!
Thank you i needed a video like this
Anytime!
Hey, great vid. Look forward to P.2
Thanks!
I love these types of walkthrough videos I really think u should do more ! Love ur style man good job
Thanks! I'll keep that in mind for sure
Elektro is surrounded by fruit tree orchards, you can get all the food and and water you need from fresh fruit.
Good thinking
my inner hoarder in games was triggered when I saw you pass all the loot lol
Haha 😂 I can imagine. I was trying to be a bit more selective
@@Nitno I swear bro 5 minutes more and I'd have lost my crap lol, great run
@@ataglance556 haha 🤣
