I do a 24-hour fast every week. I eat 2 meals/day. I save so much money on food this way. Car is paid off. Still owe a few years on my house.
But everything you suggest is just common sense for most of us.

I ran our church's food pantry for 8yrs and I would say about 25% were truly needy. If they qualified for low income, which was a pretty generous amount, they could be helped at our pantry. Coming to pick up groceries in your Mercedes, or showing off your new nails is really irksome. But we learned not to judge anyone, because we really don't know their circumstances.

You keep being honest keep telling the truth. You would make an excellent president. Love your cookbooks. I only shop sales. Also got a fixed upper house and the LORD blessed me with the talent to remodel it myself while my husband was at work. Saved a bundle by doing ALL the work by myself. Then added to the house about three times. No house payment no car payment no credit card payment. I just thank JESUS every minute of every day. THANKS AGAIN LOVE YOU BOTH

So thankful God watched over you & your family this week. We'll definitely keep praying for each of you. Like most here, I believe in God, the power of prayers, and miracles...even the miracles we never see.
I enjoy shopping garage and estate sales, and from thrift stores. Months ago, I bought my SIL a brand new set of Pioneer Woman dishes for a few dollars at a garage sale. She loved the dishes & could not believe my find.

Your tough love is helpful & important, Tawra! Thank you! I think what's helped me is changing my perspective on "needs" & "wants" as it seems that "needs" these days are not "essentials" but more like "wants." I keep stripping back, but then fall into old patterns over the Christmas season. So I'm going back to reassessing needs, wants & essentials, especially after this live as a reminder. 🥰Blessings from South Australia💕🐨

    I hope this encourages others...
I have Menieres Disease, Fibromyalgia, a brain injury with chronic migraines and brain fog, digestive problems, and a frozen shoulder.
    1. I have a job where I can work as many hours from home as I want to. This enabled me to work twice as many hours.
    2. I recently started making soup and home made muffins, instead of gluten free sandwiches for lunch.
3.i recently committed to making 3 to 4 meals a week that allow for leftovers. I do this on my days home.
We've significantly cut our grocery spending by hundreds a month.
If I with all these disabilities can do this, most people can do this (I do understand the weeks of can't be on your feet) and I acknowledge that there are people more disabled than I am. Just hope this encourages some.

Grocery prices have went up but it is still possible to stick to my grocery budget. It’s just a matter of doing things differently. When you try to tell people that it’s possible all I hear is “but I need this” or “we don’t like that”. People aren’t willing to change. They just want to do what they’ve always done. They don’t want to inconvenience or deprive themselves of things that are not necessities.

I didn’t vote those for those yahoos! But enough about ancient history. My new strategy is this (because I am the worst offender): 1) STAY HOME. Save gas, save money, save time, and use what I have. I am whittling down my stockpile of older food and cooking smarter. 2). REIN IN AMAZON. You are so right! We are so spoiled! Despite living in a rural-ish area, staying home requires discipline in ordering from Amazon. The horror of my track record haunts me. Mostly, my choices are not needs. Well, that’s my plan so far. I bet discipline will correct many missteps. Thank you for this show-a cry for sanity!!!!!❤

Tawara: Buy chicken leg quarters, and the 8 least expensive vegetables, and be creative with them - potatoes, rice, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, onions, and zucchini. When you add in eggs, dry pasta, and some canned veggies, you can make a lot of different meals. My new grocery list for March includes all of these, and peanut butter!

Morning from the Uk. I found you years ago and use your book all the time.
We are both retired and live on a joint uk pension of £320 a week. We keep one room warm ,I been able to build up a good stock cupboard we eat meals cooked from scratch I spend about £40.00 a week on food and things like washing up liquid. We got a dog he needs more experience dog food as he got a tummy trouble but buying food that doesn’t upset him is cheaper than what the vet would charge for meds. We have a car old but is kept serviced. We get free books from the little library in the post box.
We do not feel we missing out on life. Spring and summer is spent in the garden we budget all year for someone to come in and help with the garden doing things we are not able to do any more. Your way of cooking and budgeting works yes we do have treats.

She would call(no cell phones then) and we would worry. I would always tell her to have eggs and bread at least. Sandwiches, fried eggs, egg in a frame. My husband was a shipper so he was able to ship food packages to her but yes buy eggs. 1 dozen eggs and a loaf of bread will go a long way even with the increase in the price 🥰🥰🥰

Love your channel Tara but we just learned with our 16yr old Jeep that taking an uber is not cheaper every day than a car payment... Not when it's $80 a day to get into town and back when you can't afford to live in the city limits because housing is $2,000 for a 1 bed/1bath so you live 20 mins away in the "bad area of town" for affordable housing and a car payment is $300 a month for a car with no issues. Feels like everything is a lose lose right now.

Rent a car...there are other ways and Yes! It is WAY cheaper to still take an Uber at $80/day (around $1000) for 2 weeks vs. $6000/yr. interest.

The Stanley mugs. They used to be marketed to blue collar men, but some Instagram influencers started using them, so the company now makes pink ones. Women are going NUTS over them. 🤷

So many countries people work to eat, whereas we have discretionary income. I am fighting cancer and absorbed my expenses increasingly 12Xs. If it weren't for practicing frugality it wouldn't be possible. I admit I have let hubby go for take ou4 more often than usual. Just gave myself a pass. For some folks their smart phones are their only internet.

I wish people would take your advice. I have no problem with groceries ( and I'm a 71 year old widow living on a limited income) But we raised five kids being frugal so it's just a fact of life for me. I I think something is to expensive, no matter what it is, I just don't buy it. funny story, I was at the gas station the other day, a woman drove up with a really beat up car. the door was wired shut and the window, had duck tape on it, She actually had to climb out the passenger window to get out just to BUY HER CARTON OF CIGARETTES ! ( for the price of those cigarettes she could have bought a newer used car) I just don't get it.
