I’ve had really good luck with mixing neem oil and dr. bronner’s castille soap in the peppermint scent. It’s heavily diluted and put into a weed sprayer. I try to spray everything down every few weeks, but any time I notice a problem, I spray daily for two weeks and it’s always been successful for me.

I also use the Dr. Bronner’s peppermint soap with peppermint essential oil I mix it with water in a spray bottle but I don’t use neem oil I spray my plants at least once a week and I also use it to clean my leaves and I do not have fungus gnats I bottom water all my plants as well and since I’ve been doing this I’ve had no issues with pest at all

I love de. Its never failed me. Especially on more sensitive plants that react badly towards any kind of chemical even the organic ones. I had a bad outbreak of mealy bugs on a portulacaria afra and the de wiped them out. Patience is key with any pesticide and sometimes a few applications. I use de in a spray bottle with water. You just need to let it dry and wait a few days. Then I do it again in a week. I even use it in my garage to keep out bugs or kill them if they get in there. It works!

@mikekufner1192 I didn't know you could use de in a water bottle ..😱😱😱 I have a small outbreak in my Hoya's. I am going to try this. I tried the alcohol route and sprayed them. Eck, eck, eck...I can't STAND the smell of alcohol, now...😂

I wanted to quickly share my experience with mosquito bits for anyone wondering. I Purchased them 3 months into my houseplant journey in 2020, and I never had a fungus gnat problem. I now know it worked, because I ran out and figured I didn't need it. Long story short, I now know what fungus gnats are lololol. Diatomaceous earth didn't work well for me, give me the bits!!

I use an empty 20gal aquarium as a mini greenhouse. The led lights work really well for propagations. I walled the interior with some reflective bubble wrap from one of my packages so it contains and concentrates the light but I’m sure aluminum foil would work just fine and is totally not necessary. The only downside is not being completely sealed off because of the filter/hood but i use a hand towel to cover it. Hope this helps anyone. 💛

The plastic saucers Harli loved had been unavailable for a while. I found out last October when I tried to order them. However, I found another brand, called "Truedays" which is similar but even thicker and stronger. They come in either a 15-saucer pack (6, 8 & 10") or 5 or 10-saucer pack in either 6", 8", 10" or 12." I have been using them since last October, and they really work great! I hope this information helps!

I use Bonide Systemic Granules. Whenever I pot a plant I sprinkle it on the top of the soil. Handy tip: put it in a plastic squeeze catchup dispenser that has the snap close lid for easier application. Reapply as directed. I also use horticultural grade charcoal in the bottom of my pots to keep soil fresh. I also use Captain Jack’s Dead Bug spray on them. Great video Harli.

I love it. One random thing I have found is I really like using old Tazo iced tea plastic pitchers for watering they are cute and a decent size to just like bring to a room. Also hit up Walmart for pots and stands if you never have, they have some cute ass options!

I bought liquidirt specifically because of your rave reviews of it and I just have to say: you are so right! I think I was probably under-fertilizing my plants because I was SO afraid of accidentally giving them chemical burns, so pretty much all new growth just stopped. The plants weren’t dying but they certainly weren’t thriving. I started slow with liquidirt and just the small bit I gave them initially really packed a punch! I’ve only been using it about every other water now and the difference is incredible. I thought my Hoya Compacta was just never going to grow ever again. One water with liquidirt and BAM! New growth point from the base AND new leaves on the stem simultaneously! I seriously can’t recommend the stuff enough and now I 100% understand why you’re always talking about it!
    It deserves the hype!

Don’t let the price tag scare you. If you can afford of course. It is definitely more money than what I would want to spend on such a product but it really is worth it. It makes a ton of product that never expires and will last probably years depending on how many plants you have/how much you water etc. The biggest difference I notice is with plants that are stagnant in growth it really helps to give a push. I have a ficus elastica that just didn’t grow for months even into spring and then a week after I used liquidirt it started pushing out new leaves. If I don’t use liquidirt for awhile I do notice growth drastically slows.

After seeing your video on Liquidirt I decided to buy it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get it through your link because I live in Canada. Either way, thank you so much! My Hoya Karii (Which I’ve had for about 2 1/2 years) had five leaves since I’ve had her and although she’s healthy, she never gave me any new growth. Well, I started using this product and a few weeks later she started growing a leaf! Since the beginning of spring, she’s given me 4 new leaves!
For the D earth I have found it very helpful to put some in a spray bottle and mix it up and spray down the leaves of the plants with it. It got rid of my mealybugs when nothing else did it! Basically, it just dries on the leaves and kills the bugs.

Hi ! I loved this video! Food grade Diatomaceous earth is great! I first discovered it when my pet had fleas! Sometimes I will leave it all over the plant for some time…not too pretty but really works! The trays are great…I will use them to repot or anything not to make a mess in the kitchen 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Will try the Liquiddirt and Captain Jacks.
RePotme MSU (weak) ,Kelp, and calcium are different things that I use with orchids.
When I can I use rainwater on my plants . If a plant is having a problem that needs humidity…I’m finding /experimenting that the plastic zipper bags that you buy comforters in are great( my orchid is growing new roots!,!) Thankyou so much for this video!

This video just saved my life!! 😹 I have done little to no pest prevention care in the time I’ve been collecting my plants and just discovered ✨thrips✨ that I think came from my really long Brazil that I don’t check up on too often. Now, half of my collection has thrips and it’s pretty bad. I’m really stressing about the time it’s going to take to keep up on the pest maintenance since I don’t have much free time as is and I’m just trying to figure out the easiest and most effective way to take care of this. I went online and bought some neem oil, captain jacks, and diatomaceous earth…I guess I’m just wondering what you might do if you were me? Should I start by wiping every leaf down, spraying it with captain jacks and let that dry, then sprinkle some diatomaceous earth on the tops (I also bottom water) and then just repeat the captain jacks treatment along with neem oil every week or so? Would that be too often? And if I’m using the captain jacks, should I still do the neem oil or will that be too much at once?? Any input you might be willing to share would be so very appreciated!!

I'll put the cafeteria tray into my grow room. I think it will make cleanup quick when I pot up a small plant. Some soil always seems to spill, and it will catch it, and easily pour back into the soil container. Thanks for the idea.

Good stuff! Thank you for sharing, Harli! I
I use Espoma Indoor Liquid Plant Food. I have over 150 plants in my collection and one bottle lasts me about 10 months. You can find them in any hardware stores or online.

Great video Harli. I'm quite new to plants and have been finding many of your videos really helpful. I just mixed my own soil too with some perlite, orchard bark, cactus soil and houseplant compost. No idea if it will be good yet but I'll see how my plants go! I would personally really love to see how you mix your soil, the ratios etc. I don't know if you've already done a video on that? I would also REALLY love to see a guide on bottom watering! I know it may sound silly but as a beginner it's hard to navigate how long should I leave the plants in the water, how much should I put in, can I add liquid fertiliser to the water as they are being bottom watered etc. Maybe a "back to basics" video where you could teach us newbies some of those things? xxx

After seeing this, I used the food grade diatomaceous earth that I had in the house for flea/pest control. I mixed it in my soil and put it around the base of my plants. It worked great! I haven't had any pests since I used it about 6 months ago. Could be luck and circumstance for sure but I can't ignore that I haven't had a pest outbreak since. Thanks Haili!

I got liquidirt after your video, and I LOVE IT!!!! I do have to say, it is stinky if I close the container, so I just leave it open. It has been an absolute game changer. I also have a ProTek and using the rest of my SuperThrive in my water. I have five separate gallon jugs I fill up at one time.I also put a splash of horticultural oil and isopropyl alcohol and hydrogen peroxide. I also tend to overfill plants at the top and they trickle down to the bottom.
I will definitely want to try some of those grow lights for winter, my whole porch will be coming inside!!

I love neem oil for preventing mold/mildew especially in the cooler months. I like Schultz brand liquid plant food, it comes with an easy dropper so it’s super quick to add the drops into a watering can or bottle. I use the plastic saucers too. I also like to have the little tiny plant snippers for my indoor plants. Great for easy snipping of leaves and stems especially for smaller plants.

IKR. There's something about that smell that I can't deal with. Other people complain worse about fish emulsion but for me that's not nearly as bad as need oil. Yuck.

@@jamesjoseph9721 Neem oil to me smells like rotten garlic drowned in rotten lemon and soaked in sweaty gym socks🤢 It’s wretched. Fish emulsion was not quite as gnarly to me but I didn’t use it for all that long, only a month or two. Fish tank water was good too but made my whole room smell like fish tank when I watered worse than the emulsion!!!😂 Liquidirt is my new fave and captain jacks has almost no smell unless i use a LOT inside, love that odorless life haha

I’ve used Mosquito Bits before. I found mixing them in a tea was so stinky! I had to move those plants onto the deck til the smell went away. The dry bits don’t stink at all!I’m definitely getting the LiquiDirt and sphagnum moss!

You can buy coconut coir in bricks that expand when you add water to them. You can even find them in pet shops in the reptile section as a substrate (Eco Earth is the brand I usually find).
