Hello Miss Lori! I've been a subscriber for about a month or so, long enough to watch several of your videos. I wanted to say thank you for such a AMAZING channel and I'm so thankful I stumbled upon it. I love the fact that it's a God loving , down home cooking, with delicious recipes like my momma, Grandma( who was born and raised in Arkansas) or I would make. I love yours and Mr. Brown's loving and sweet personalities. It's like visiting part of my family virtually :) Thanks so much for opening up your home to us all, and giving us a glimpse into your lives, and sharing a portion of your day with us. Also, for talking to us like family, or a neighbor in your home sitting around the table for coffee, and a good ole chit chat. Your truly a special type of person. I believe everyone of your subs can see that , and it keeps them coming back to Whip-poor-will Holler as often as you can upload. God Bless :)
~Sarah
Lori, I just love love love ❤ you you’re such an inspiration and I’m binge watching you I wake up in the morning watching you and go to sleep watching your videos! I’m 72 and you’re still teaching me new things God bless you and your husband and your whole family!
Love this show! It is just my husband and me now, I often said, I just can’t cook for two. So I started putting the extras up in the freezer. Then started making extra on purpose! Mrs. Lori our lives are similar but I’m now retired but busy at home and helping with yard and garden work. I also like to do canning and preserving. My youngest granddaughter is graduating from HS this year and then off to college. Life will slow down some more, and lots of days I’m ready for a slow down actually ready for winter for those slow days. Love freezing soup, we often eat just a hearty soup for our dinner, and a slice of bread or crackers. Life I good, God is Great 👍
Thank you for all the great recipes,I’m glad you are in my life !
I'm glad your in mine! Xoxoxo
Ms Lori, I’m 66 years young and I don’t cook my noodles. Been making lasagna for over 40 years with uncooked noodles. The only thing to remember is cover the noodles with sauce. It makes assembling so much faster and easier. Thanks for your fabulous videos. You and Mr. Brown are a blessing. 🥰
They even make special noodles for that, don’t recall the name but they’re great for putting in dry! Oven ready or the like they’re half cooked!
Me too
I make freezer Lasagna using regular uncooked Lasagna Noodles- I just make sure my sauce is not as thick as it would be if I was using the cooked noodles. I've done it that way for years.
Yes it tastes much better letting the pasta cook in the saus and cheese.
I guess people prepare and cook differently. We always cook the pasta first.
Another great video Lori. Thank you for sharing all your delicious recipes with all of us. Your truly a blessing and God Bless you and Mr.Brown
Please show more freezer meals and even crock pot meals. I look forward to your videos. Love your channel!!
I used to do once a month cooking for my very large family. Now all my kids are grown and my husband died so it’s just me. It’s hard to cook for just one when you are used to cooking for 11. I started watching videos about cooking and freezing for individuals. Now my side by side freezer is full of homemade meals instead of TV dinners! It is so exciting to go to my freezer and choose what I will have from healthy choices! I would encourage anyone to do this! I’m a great grandmother who is handicapped. If I can do it you can too!
Offer to do some freezer meals for your busy daughters/grand-daughters. Get them to drop off ingredients and containers and enjoy your home cooked meals.Your experience is invaluable and you'll feel useful and appreciated!
I love your idea of freezing cooked lasagna noodles! We also keep lots of Dollar Tree foil containers with tops on hand. That smaller size you used is our favorite for sending home leftovers for family and friends 💞!
I love watching you cook. I too love cooking once and eating off of it multiple times. I make my husbands lunches throughout the week and always cook extra meat, breads and cookies and throw them in the freezer too. Like you said, it makes food prep so much easier throughout the week. ❤️. God bless you and Mr: Brown.
Homemade lasagne takes time to make, so making extra when making the one is a fantastic idea. Great food ready anytime!
I love the idea of just doing an extra meal every so often. I have tired doing weekend preps and I just find it so hard. The idea of just doing it little by little would work for me so much easier. I am so glad I found your channel!!!!!♥️♥️
Thank you so much!
When we brought Angie home on hospice, one of her girlfriends spent hours preparing freezer meals. and tons of breakfast burritos for us. It was such help.
God bless you and Angie and her wonderful friend ❣️
Having a loved one at home with hospice is a very noble gesture that totally exhausts the care giver. Blessings and prayers.
I was a Hospice RN for 17 years. It was so sweet seeing friends and family support our patients and their caregivers, so often with meals.
Thank you Lori! Keep the freezer meals coming!
I love the format Miss Lori - with you adding the voice-over after. I do frozen meals too, just for the 2 of us - because some days, I just don't feel like cooking (aka: lazy 🙄)
Tip for lasagna - I don't pre-cook nor do I buy 'oven ready' ones. Just use them right out of the box, but break them a little smaller & leave a bit of space in between noodles, since they'll expand as it's cooking. I make my sauce looser on purpose, so there's enough liquid for the noodles to suck up.
~Hope you and Mr. Brown are well & staying safe 💕 ~Greetings again from Canada 🇨🇦
Love you Miss Lori! Wish you had been my grandma. Your kids are so lucky to have you.
This was in my day was called "cook once eat twice meals". I cook now for one but freeze micro ready meals for one. Much better than eating out.
Eating at home is much better than eating out.
Much healthier and economical! Not to mention the satisfaction of home cooking!
thank melt to tmnvxt ppl in Tx
Praying for you both💕🙏🏼. I love your transparency. Love you my friend.
Freezer meals sounds like a great idea to me! I've never made any freezer meals but I sure am thankful for the vegetable beef soup we canned over the summer! Open a jar, heat it up and homemade soup for supper! Love y'all Mrs. Lori!
Great way to fill the freezer. I used to do that when we had a family at home. But, now, I still freeze leftovers. It is just smart. Where did those 62 years of marriage go? I miss my husband so much. Real glad I have my kids. The years fly by. Enjoy every day.
Nothing’s better than homemade. Homemade freezer meals really are a game changer. Thank you for the recipes. You’re recipes are always a winner!! ❤️ 🥘
My wife made me this today and all I can say is WOW. Love it, thanks so much Lori.
Oh good, I hope to do more freezer meals!
I raised 3 children and worked as a RN, in a busy Emer Dept. There were days that I was just exhausted! I send you prayers and a word of encouragement!
I just love to listen to you (and Mr. Brown) and love your recipes 😍
Thank you, xoxoxo
I agree her voice is so peaceful she needs her own cooking show and I'd love for her to make a cookbook!!
I love the way you lock-up those meals for you and Mr. Brown. I enjoy listening to you talk, and telling stories.May the Lord Bless you both.
🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧
I don't often make freezer meals, but they always made sense to me. They are definitely a time saver.
Great idea and Lori❣️ Please share videos of other freezer meals you do. Always love your delicious dishes.🥰
I have to admit to doing this when my children were small, but as they grew and moved out on their own, I stopped. Thanks for inspiring us to do it again! Like you said, it's homemade and it comes from your own kitchen! Much healthier I am sure. Love watching your videos-makes me feel like I'm right there in your cozy kitchen with you!
The greatest is having the grandkids over helping, teaching & /or even their laughter is the greatest also!! Count blessings daily!!
Thank you for talking about freezer meals - I’ve been doing it for many years. It just makes sense if you have an extra freezer. And thank you so much for always including your recipes, I’ve made several and they are all very delicious. ❤️
I love this idea. God bless you Miss Lori and Mr. BROWN.
Thanks for your tips and advice to freezer meals made ahead. God bless you.
Love cooking freezer meals. I always make a huge meatloaf to divide into many meals, or cook 3 roasts at one time and divide. Thanks for the ideas.
You're so awesome with what you teach us I just love watching you cook Thank you so much Tammy 😊
Thank you!
Only one of me but I still do freezer meals for myself. They are a life saver when your busy, for Shabbat, or for having a friend over you don’t have to cook you can sit and visit instead of cooking. I do it with desserts too. Thank you Miss Lori! GOD bless you all.
This looks like a good meals for a widow like me to do. I often don’t feel like cooking for myself in these would be easy to fix and stead. Thank you for your great ideas and your lovely personality and attitude.
I have a tip...add about a tablespoon of olive oil to your boiling water when cooking any pasta...prevents sticking! Blessings 🙏🏻💖
I love doing this it helps out for sure.
The recipes looked sooo good. I agree. It is just as easy to bulk up ingredients to make extra meals than it is to make one. And such a big help! Thanks for the recipes! ❤️
I'm a huge believer in cook once eat multiple times. Especially things that take time. Soups, sauces, stews etc. Freeze it up in meal size serving containers, like enough for a meal for us. Boom done.
Me too! And slowly over the years I’m teaching my husband 😆
So with the soups and stews or roast you can it in one serving containers in case one wants stew and someone else what another item.
@@christinainmichigan6726 Sometimes I freeze it in individual servings (like if I’m giving it to my single brother) other times in family size. And sometimes I do both! Soups I feel like potatoes and pasta don’t freeze well, so I often leave them out until we are actually eating it. So like last month I made homemade chicken orzo soup. I froze some for my brother it was complete minus the orzo. So all he had to do was thaw it, bring it to a boil, toss in the dried orzo and simmer a few minutes. I only see him like once a month so I’ll freeze up individual portions when I can so he can have home cooking for one anytime:)
I also can soups.
@@TracieSmithpomeranian My grandmother used to can soups and they were good in the refrigerator for like a month. I have no idea what she did or how she did it. How do you can your soups?
I surely do like your demonstrations!! Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you for doing this video! I’m going to start doing these for my parents. Can’t wait to see more freezer meal ideas! God bless!!!
I make casseroles to freeze. I call it a Casserole Day. I spend most of the day cooking but it's so worth it
Very awesome idea!! I’m doing it also!! I need to have a soul day also!! I think I’ll have my grandkids help!! They love this in all their ages and we can make them some also!! What a win situation isn’t it?!! Much love
I save leftover gravy and sauces to put in my rice when I cook. I also keep a container in my fridge for 'bits of veggies, leftover cheese bits, peppers and such) that can be used. I guess I learned to cook from a depression era mom and nothing was wasted.
No need to feel guilty. They're still wonderful home cooked meals.
Mrs Lori. It's just advanced planning.
I love already cooked meals, God bless you guy's
When my grandma died, I made up about 7 different meals and divided each into good-sized single serving freezer containers and packed my grandpa’s freezer with them, writing the instructions on each container for reheating or baking. It supplied him with meals for about three months while he learned how to cook for himself because grandma had always made even his snacks. He talked about those meals to people for a very long time afterwards.
Was a learning lesson of sorts for me today, when watching this. A couple of reminders of a shortcut or two, along the way. After I was divorced , with 2 young girls, an extra meal in my freezer, helped tremendously. The older daughter woul read on the outside of the pan, what was inside of it. She age 8, & her sister age 4, alway was the one to decide what was going to be thawed out for the next day’s meal. Was so easy. Then as they became older, I would be receiving more “volunteer” help from them. Was so nice to have a cooking lesson, & precious time together. Yes, it could be a bit more messy ever now & then, but it didn’t kill me. I’m now 67 years old, an amputee, & I still do the “fix ahead meals” when possible. It just takes me a bit longer when I do it, & pretty much each time, I reflect back on the 3 of us girls in that kitchen during those years. No regrets whatsoever…😉💕🇺🇸
Thank you, For sharing, xoxoxo
That is a wonderful idea and both recipes look delicious!
Everything looks so good and i am sure is delicious !! Thank you so much !!
Lori, I have watched ya'lls videos for a couple of years now and just love them. And, I always come away from from them with two things 1.) I'm happy and 2.) I'm hungry! I just wanted to say thanks and only the best to you both.
Thank you so much!!
I also make meatloaf ahead. I freeze it raw and vacuum sealed. It's one of the things I do when I get a great deal on ground beef.
I just did 3 loaves of it in the freezer. Froze the metal pan covered with plastic then took out the next day and dumped from pan and vac n sealed in bags.
@@GM-gy4ck Great idea!
When I was younger, I use to watch six kids-my house was spotless!
Now I am older, and I am lucky to clean my birdcage everyday!
Thank you for giving us freezer meal ideas. Sometimes I’m in the mood to cook and sometimes other things take over my day. I am going to work on making freezer meals and filling up my freezer. You are such a great help. Bless you and your family. 🤗❤️
Everything Looks Delicious. Thanks for Sharing. Take Care and God Bless.
Great tips Miss Lori! One of my goals for 2021 is to Meal Plan every week and also to do freezer meals! And like you said, it really is not that much extra work to make more of the same dish! Thank you for ALL of your wonderful videos!
Thank you for the great freezer recipes. I've been spending more time in the woods on my trapline so these ready made meals the big kids can throw in the oven and by the time I get home we can eat not just start supper. Take care and keep safe, Kevin.
@@dannybrown1085 Hi. I live in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. There's no better life than living on the trapline and trying to live a self sufficient lifestyle.
@@dannybrown1085 Thank You!!! Its been a tough start to the season, the weather has been sloppy and wet so far. As far as prices they were very low the last auction but hopefully it will come up. May the Creator watch over you and your loved ones during these tough times. Would really like to talk with you more.
I love how you guys talk TO US. not AT us.. Thank you both for that.
Thank you Miss Lori for sharing your recipes, showing how you prepare, process and cook. Most of all I get such joy watching. I am definitely one of those glued round your video counter!
Lori, you have such a good Heart, thank you for all you do!
Such a good idea. And your recipes look delicious! Thanks, Miss Lori.
mrs. Lori you just helped many families an individual to est heatley an save time in the kitchen, that's a great blessing, ❤
I don't know how that wrong spelling got in my commit (eat)
I love doing this
Right now my freezers are full from trying to get ahead of rising cost of groceries
This is exactly what I needed to be considering ! I used to do a weekly prep and I actually tired of doing it when COVID struck, plus I began doing keto. There is no reason I can’t do prep like this with so many of my keto meals ! Thank you so much ! Can’t wait to see future freezer meals that you make ! God Bless you and Mr Brown 💕💕
I'm going to be doing more too!
At dollar tree they sell no boil nodles you just take out of box make your pasta recipe I make four at time save time you don’t have to boil
I also use the no boil noodles. They are a game changer.
My elderly mother is living with me. But we still cook "family sized" and freeze portions for meals later. We even have biscuits and rolls in the freezer.
I really appreciate these, i not only cook for my hubby and myself but I also cook and send meals over to his parents. These will be great for that, thank you
Thats wonderful that you do that for your parents! Xoxoxo
@@WhippoorwillHoller my in-laws are in their early 90s and still live in their own home and need help to do so. So I just throw extra in and send over with my husband.
Very thoughtful.
Bless you
@@lynnsteiner1580 thank you
God Bless YOU and Mr. Brown. When I was a young woman, working lots of hours,I figured out a simple easy way to "help" myself.I fixed out 4 weeks worth of menus, asking family to add their preferences.
This helped TREMENDOUSLY, before I went to grocery store ,I went through that weeks menus, adding whatever I would need for that week. That helped with keeping budget better also. Family liked it,because the menu hung on refrigerator door,no guessing .
Since I am alone, that took a lot of adjusting 🤔.
But I have friends that are older than me who are unable to cook now.
They love my meatloaf.
I started making "mini" meatloaf. I bake them in muffin tins. When they are cooled,I put them in freezer on cookie sheets until frozen, then bag them up. I take bags to the friends that need them. That way there is no waste. If you want one mini,or three... they are ready to heat and eat.
Wanting to say Merry Christmas to everyone, love this time of year 🎄🎄🎄🌲🎁.
Oh my.... that looks so good and you're so smart Miss Lori !! I love cottage cheese in lasagna . I've never tried ricotta cheese , but I always thought that it look good though . The salisbury steak and gravy look good too . Miss Lori, my little granddaughter used to call it strawberry steak . lol !! That's when she was about 2 yrs old. Thank you for sharing some more delicious recipes and some more great ideas with us. God bless y'all !! ❤❤❤
I love this . I have copd and there are days I can't get out of my own way ! This is going to work for me . Thank you 😊
It all looks so good! I love being ahead like this.
Love your pan!
FYI for anyone who hates cottage cheese or Ricotta in Lasagna, I learned a trick years ago, softened cream cheese plus one egg mixed together makes a great substitution for each cup of the other. Tastes awesome too. Thank you so much for this recipe and video. Love everything you do.
Purist italians do not use cottage cheese or ricotta. Our lasagna is made with a beautiful bechamel sauce, and then of course, the secret is in the sauce. Layered with mozz, parm, I top with buffalo mozzarella. Your sauce looked lovely, Miss Lori.❤🇮🇪🍀
Yes I was always taught to make a bechamel sauce for lasagne (and not to be stingy with it either lol). However this method looks intriguing and I just may have to try it too : )
Yes, Lasagne alla Bolognese, made with a ragu and bechamel, is considered classic lasagna in Italy, and common in the north and central areas, having originated in the Emilia-Romagna region, but as you go south you get other varieties. In Naples, you'll find Lasagne di Carnevale, or Neapolitan carnival lasagna, layered with a pork based meat sauce, meatballs, mozzarella, ricotta and sausage. In Sicily, you'll find Lasagne alla Norma layered with eggplant, ricotta and a light tomato sauce. There's of course other varieties as well.
I'd also point out why I'm switching between 'lasagne' and 'lasagna', for other readers. In the Italian language 'lasagna' is singular, meaning one lasagna noodle, and 'lasagne' is plural, or more than one, so in Italy its 'lasagne' unless someone has made the dish with one noodle lol....but outside Italy its just called 'lasagna' and more familiar with people so when using English translations I stick with 'lasagna' to avoid confusion and explaining this every time.
Thank you, we have no room our freezers to put anything in there.
I've been working on small jar canned & single serving freezer meals. These recipes help a lot.
I made up freezer meals before my last baby was born. I have always said that I was going to start doubling or tripling my meals so that I could freeze em, but we always end up eating the leftover during the week! 🤣 Thanks for sharing!
This is what happens here too. I still double or triple, but the family is wise to my ways, and immediately says "don't freeze it!" before I have a chance to squirrel any away! Besides, no room in the freezers.
Yes teenagers are the worst, at eating any extras. With teens around, you can forget about getting ahead. 😥😀. But alas they will be heading on to their future soon, and then you will have lots of leftovers. 😕🥺
I love freezing meals. I also freeze small portions for my single brother. He loves home cooking and is always getting takeout. I think frozen food from his sister might be his love language☺️
I live alone and do this all the time. I also buy 5 pound bag of Yukon gold potatoes. Peel and cook. Add butter, cream cheese or sour cream. Then I make potato patties with 3/4 cup. Place on cookie sheet and freeze. Once frozen I transfer to freezer bag. I take one out when needed and heat in microwave.
You can throw in some sweet potatoes with the white potatoes and change things up.
You have really inspired me to make freezer meals for my family. Thank you for sharing.
I used to do this years ago; don't know why I got out of the habit. So glad you reminded me. This is such a HUGE time-saver. You've inspired me, once again. God bless, girl!
Thanks for the recipes, Lori. I have a lasagna recipe that I've perfected over the years, but I've never made Salisbury Steak. I'm going to try your recipe.
One tip.......I construct my freezer meals and then freeze them solid BEFORE covering them and writing on the lids. I've found that by freezing them uncovered for several hours first, the lids never stick and it's much easier to uncover them straight from the freezer. Thanks again for the recipes!
Lori...you are one hard working woman! 👍❣️ great ideas!
We just became empty nesters a couple of months ago. I was struggling feeding just 2 people. I started freezing the extra from my normal family meals. Here in a month or so I am really going to be happy to have all those yummy meals and not have to cook them from scratch. I loved your recipes, gonna have to make both of them. Thanks for sharing. TTYL, my friend. ~~~~Tina
Oh my word Ms Lori they both look delicious. I have got to make these. Thank you so much for sharing. God bless y’all.
Ms. Lori I made your white bread tonight and it was so good. It turned out so soft and delicious. I cooked supper for my son and daughter in law and we had a wonderful meal. I sent a loaf home with them and I kept the one we cut. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful bread recipe. God bless y’all.
Dear Lori, love this video.... after raising 6 children, I now happily live alone , but meals are so challenging. I just don’t cook for myself. I have just got to get back to cooking! Happiest of merry Christmas to you and Danny! Love you both! God is good all the time.
I watched this video to see how Mrs.Lori cooks her Salisbury steak and am going to use her method and try it.
Same! Although I got a few new ideas in the lasagna part too, so I'm glad I watched both.
This homemade lasagna looks delicious. I started adding oregano and Worcestershire as well and it’s been a game changer for my family. We all love my lasagna even more. If that’s possible 😂😂
Looks delicious 💯💥 as always
Happy holidays everyone🎼 🎄🌺🎄🎼
Miss Lori I am so glad for your video. Our household has been very sick for two months. So that being said , the good Lord has got us healing. I haven’t cooked in those two months so I am getting inspired (slow n steady is gonna win my race 🙃) by your recipes and freezer meals. I some how bought everything for lasagna right before I got sick ,😀. Realizing how vulnerable we can be with our health, having some frozen homemade meals makes a world of difference.
Specially for my dad and husband when I am not able to help them, they can.
Thank you for all your recipes, love, and videos.
God Bless you two always .
Ms. Lori, this is so timely. I made double batch meatballs and pot pie filling and froze them this weekend. I too work 11-12 hour days so I really appreciate you doing this. Thank you!
Your recipes look so scrumptious! Thank you for sharing your recipes with us. I like to cook large recipes for my son and I. I freeze most of it so we can just thaw and warm it and dinner is done. What a relief to have quick, home made healthy meals.
Our dearest Lorie and Danny, we are so happy to say" MERRY CHRISTMAS TO OUR ARKANSAS FAMILY"!!! Love you both! Cee💚💚💚☘️☘️☘️
Would love to meet ya next time
I'm totally going to make the Salisbury steak! Thanks for the inspiration
Me too!! They looked great.
Love love love Salisbury Steak. That is an absolute favorite for me. Thanks for sharing your recipe.
Have a Blessed day.
Mrs. Lori my MIL cooked 3 vegetables for at least 5 days or 5 meals and she refrigerated her biscuit dough in a tightly sealed bowl and then she made cornbread. If they wanted meat she would cook that one of the days to add to the vegetable and slice a garden tomato. These cook ahead items made it easier on her. She didn't have all 3 vegetables each night. Thanks for your wonderful video's including Mr. Brown (I enjoy his Bible readings and stories. Both of you are so Blessed to have each other. I can't wait for both of you to RETIRE!
Easy peasy, Thank you! Keep recipes coming, please!
I make potatoes that look like those called “hassle back potatoes”. They are good. I’d love to have Lori’s recipe also. I’m sure hers would be better than mine! I love watching Whippoorwill Holler!
Such a good idea 😋 Looks delicious, Thank you ❤️
I love how Miss Lori has two different teaspoons => One for all her ingredients, and a special one for her garlic, (or what the rest of us call a 'canoe paddle'). I love garlic too. I even like to use it as aftershave.
Love my Food Saver! I tried to make freezer meals to save time, especially when I worked outside the farm. I worked at school until I turned 70. Now it should get easier for me to start making freezer meals again. That salisbury steak looks yummy! Great idea!
I have been watching your video for about a month now and I just love the way you cook from Philadelphia
I want to thank you for this video on freezer meals. It's always intimidated me, worrying that I haven't wrapped it enough to prevent freezer burn or it taking on unpleasant freezer smells. Guess I'm just paranoid. I actually prefer the riccota cheese but cottage cheese is also good. I love your sauce recipe, can't wait to try it. Love you Lori and also Mr. Brown.
