Wow this is amazing up and surf foiling with no white water 😮 plus mega paddle power 😃
Foil waves everyday now 😀
Really love this simple video. I appreciate the Ka’a vids, Josh, Voyager, all the Aussies but this brings prone into perspective. I started with DW winging on a 7’10” 21” 127L board with zero success.,sold it and went giant to 8’8” 26” 150L. Still, no flying in 15 sessions, 4 on the bigger board. But it’s waaay better until I blistered my toes and had to dry dock a few months. Now, at 72, I’m ready to put the wing and paddle away and glide into some high tide SoCal waves. 60 year fish surfer and snowboarder so I’m already front foot biased. Can’t wait to get on it. Thank you… subbed. Henry
Thanks Henry that’s nice of you to say, wow that is a big board! I bet you get some nice glassy conditions over there, enjoy, cheers - Martin 😎
I’ve been sup foiling almost a year now on a 29 inch starboard and bought a Armstrong 7.7 121 liters 21 wide down wind board for sup surfing Down here at scorpion bay baja but trying to paddle it is proving to be super hard but now after watching you I’m keen on trying it prone or knee paddle it in to waves . Thanks .
I hope you are getting some good waves 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Let us know how you go with the prone n hand paddles 🤛
Amazing! How does it pump compared to a 40l board? Do you feel every prone surfer should have a dw board in their quiver? What size would you recommend? They have wide and thin versions. Whats your weight? I already have 4 apple tree foil boards
I weigh 78/80kg plus winter wetsuit. The last few days at home have been too small for me to use my normal board n foil set up, so yes essential for my quiver. Depends where you live I guess, I get lots of super small days here. I would still much rather be on my smaller appletree and small foil though, when there’s waves. Pumps way better than you would expect 🤙🏼
what do you think is the minimal volume required for knee paddling using the kalama hand paddles? Say 85-90kg rider, experienced surfer and already prone foiling 40l
Hard to put a figure on it without seeing you foil, mines 99L and I am 78kg and that’s no worries for hand paddles in tiny waves. Don’t know about downwinding though as I haven’t done that yet.
When will you release the first how to prone foil educational series??
Ha, yea I have been making notes but haven’t got around to it, I keep going foiling too much 😂
Hello @Surfingtechniques ! Would you change any measurements on the table? For example, would you make it narrower to have better paddling? Have you done wing with her? all the best!
I reckon I would go smaller board for super small days and also use it for bigger days for the paddle power. I reckon 5’0 could be good.
@@110SurfingTechniques1 really? So don't need so much length? Thanks!
Some of your waves are with hand paddles and some with out witch do you prefer ? Thanks .
I prefer without hand paddles, the hand paddles get the board moving faster but with normal prone pop up I find it quicker to get on foil, the dynamics of the prone up up seem to unweight the board and make it easier. If that makes sense?
Is the 79 or 89l versions of the apple tree narrow board even better for proning only? For normal surfing the biggest board I use is 7'6 49L and I can catch anything with it, so is going to 99l really an advantage over the 79/89? For prone surf only.
Good question, I can’t give you a definite answer as I haven’t tried the smaller versions, but I reckon the smaller ones would be super fun in the tiny waves as they will be easier to pop the board onto foil and less swing weight when turning.
@@110SurfingTechniques1 i also had a question about catching waves and popping up on foil. I am already an experienced prone surfer who is using foil drive to practice prone foiling. Recently, ive started on my belly and been trying to catch waves, then pop-up, to emulate the pop-up process. Question is, for bigger waves (2-3ft hawaiian), good size period, are smaller foils better than larger foils because they have less lift? I find the hardest thing is right after catcing the wave that doesnt have a super mellow shoulder, that it feels like im going too fast and i can also get bucked off the top. Let me know what the issue you think is. For really tiny waves, it seems like the 1300 axis is good to catch waves with this way.
with all the Hawaiian juice I would prefer to be on a small foil, having said that the gofoil GT1250 stays nice and level in bigger waves, so even though its a larger area (1250cm squared) it doesn't buck me off. My day to day foil is a Fone Sk8 950 (950cm squared). And the wing I used on the 6'11 Appletree is a gofoil area of around 1800cm squared for super tiny waves, or the gofoil Gt1250 (1250cm squared)
@@110SurfingTechniques1 would it be possible to paddle on the knees with a 79/89l board? Or do I need the 99l? Paddling from knees is more ergonomic and efficient then paddling from prone right?
yea I would say it would be fine to knee paddle 79L. I prefer to prone paddle though
Love the video 😍. Have you ever surfed a bigger wave with these board? I see you use your smaller, normal 40l board, but this DW board could help to better or sooner entry in a big wave, especially if it's not steep yet. Or not? All the best!
Thank you, I haven’t surfed big waves with this board, I prefer to be on my 4’6 37L, or my day to day board which is 32L. Going fast on a bigger wave might feel difficult to control on too big of a board.
@@110SurfingTechniques1 thanks!! Comment if you try something similar 🙏🤪
I ride my 7-7 all the time in overhead waves. It is challenging to make the drops with the extra length, so much fun.
How tall are you ? Thanks .
6 foot
How much do you weigh ? Thanks .
78KG 😀
Nice, mast size?
Thanks, that’s a 72cm mast gofoil 🤙🏼
How long ? How wide ? How many liters ? Is your board And how long of a mast are you using ? ". Thanks .
6’11 20.5’ 99L and it’s a 72cm gofoil mast with GL240 front wing with short fixed tail 🤙🏼
Inspired by your video, ordered a custom 7-7 x 20.5 107L, 200lbs/61yr, Axis Spitfire 1100, riding everything from knee high to overhead waves, pure fun. Web gloves make it easier to get in early. - ruclips.net/video/sEfpWBtLB9M/видео.htmlsi=hUy-v4-UoD0K1Zz_&t=204
Stoker, that’s awesome to hear 🤙🏼🤙🏼 looks like you have some good foil spots and cold like here (England) 🥶
