Your description at the beginning (around 1:30) is so magical. Sigh. It makes me realize how grateful I am to be alive during the era of abundant retro handhelds that keep growing and getting more capable at a time. It's like my younger self (who grew up in the 80's and 90's) gets to be excited every time I fire up my retro handheld because I can play ANYTHING and I can even take it WITH ME?!?!?! I'm one of your early subscribers and I'm so glad RUclips recommended you to me. You make me feel such joy and happiness with your dweeb schtick, I'm sure we'd get along well in real life (attention: NOT a stalker!). Hope your weekend rocks, TechDweeb.
I'm totally with you. Every time I feel bitter about a device not being perfect I have to remind myself how crazy it is that we get EVERY retro game in our pocket. Appreciate you sticking with me buddy 🤓
I still want the rg353v even though I have a rg405v. I’m just really drawn to it for some reason and find it really cool. Also I only choose the gray models as well because I love the retro look it has
I just ordered one and would love if you made a video on ark os. I got powkiddy v90, hacked ps vita and hacked nintendo dsi xl and i think that this one gonna be nice addition. i love v90 but it just a bit to small to enjoy it for more then an hour. my hands a bit to big for it. was debaiting between RP 3+ and this and this video was exactly what i needed. Thanks!
I love the 353v. It's my pocket handheld when I don't feel like pulling out my chunky Steam Deck. I much prefer to play 4:3 consoles on it. My hands do get cramped using the analog sticks for long periods tho.
Hey! Be careful when cutting battery wires, I saw you snipped both wires at the same time with scissors, this means the scissor blades can short the battery. It's usually best if you cut each wire individually and at different lengths so that they never touch! :)
Thank you for not glossing over the HDMI functionality. For some people, like me, it's one of the most important features in a handheld. I'm still pondering my next handheld, but the RG353V has always been on my shortlist.

Hey tech dweeeb... just a word of warning and to others... NEVER cut both the positive and negative wires of a battery with scissors at the same time... I had an RG35XX but couldn't get over the ergonomics of it. Or lack thereof for my hands. So I sold it and my other older Vita to buy a Retroid Pocket 3+ and not missing the RG35XX in the slightest. Right on!! I dig this pick as your new “daily driver”. Great compromise point for everything retro 2D but also the early 3D stuff. And the portability/pocketability is still good. For me it’s the same pick except I opted for the 353VS instead of the regular V as a cheapskate lol - no dual boot to Android and less RAM but it still seems to run everything up to Dreamcast pretty smoothly. I’m fine with the stock Anbernic Linux OS tbh but I’m going to do an Ark OS install this weekend and see how I like it - hear great things about it. Anything more powerful or harder to emulate or must play in a horizontal form factor or aspect ratio I’ll use my Odin Pro. Anything beyond that I don’t feel the need to play with a handheld and that’s why I have a gaming laptop I guess. I’d love a deeper dive video on Ark from your perspective - have seen the Retro Game Corps guide but was awhile back and I’ll prob need that to get the install going I’m sure! ☮️

I LOVE the Mini Plus. It's probably my favourite device in terms of look and hand-feel, and pocket factor. The shortcomings are - no TV out, fewer ports, no analog stick (although I could live without that because of the form factor), no portmaster, and as much as I love Onion OS I have to admit that I prefer Emulation Station because of the customization and library management tools.
@@TechDweebAh, ok. That makes sense. For me, I just can't get over the gorgeous look of the RG35XX and Mini plus. I love Garlic OS, but I must admit I prefer Emulation Station for the customizability and the file management tools (and the extra features of ArkOS like ports and built-in metadata scraping are icing on the cake). 32gb system card, 256gb games card.

This is a great handheld emulator. Got mine off of facebook marketplace. A lot of consoles work and their games. Been tinkering around with it. Changing the operating systems and all that jazz. Able to connect to the tv and have wireless controllers. Fun little machine. Will you be getting the retroid pocket 4/4+?
Would definitely like to see a good setup and “tweaks” video especially with some good info on shaders and other rendering tweaks. Most of the install vids i have seen for it dont go into optimizing retroarch for the device.
I have the 353M and it's all this and super pocketable. It's THE device to grab and go for me. Its really versatile (including for watching videos through the Kodi media player), has a (stock) Linux interface that approaches the appeal of Amber Elec, and it has to be the most capable device at its size. If there's something better, I'd love a recommendation but it being so small and coming in black (basically), it's the perfect subtle and discreet device for an adult to kill time in a public place. I always have it. EDIT: by the way apart from Portmaster, I highly recommend the stock firmware. What I did for the ports is I copied my ports over from the 351MP. Almost all of them work perfectly under the 353M stock Linux OS. So, I basically just use postmaster on the 351MP when I want a port and I'm good to go.
This is also my most used device since I'm playing through the Zelda GBC titles. I really prefer the vertical form factor. I'd love to see a setup video.
If you can get a hold of one, try out a KTPocket KT-R1. It's pretty compact and pocketable, but can play a lot of GameCube and PS2. It also has a 3:2 aspect ratio display which is amazing for GBA and is awesome for 4:3 and 16:9 content as well. I love mine! Thanks for the video.
As far as the joysticks go, I’ve been using my Nintendo switch as my main console for the past 6 years, so I’m so glad that anbernic basically just put the joycon sticks into a Gameboy with triggers. Literally my dream handheld
I have the 353v and i like it for what i have. Unfortunately i deleted the linux os and don’t have a computer to redownload the os. Honestly i really love it but i kinda hate how people glossed over it for the XX and miyoo mini as far as customization goes
Please tell me. where do I get a sanpao mini android TV. I have been looking for one for a month and everywhere I have found has 0 tvs. I am dying to get my hands on one.
It's different on every device. The save files will be held in a 'saves' folder somewhere on your sd card, and you have to move them to the saves folder on your new device (probably in a different place if it's a different device). It's not hard but it's tedious and a pain in the buns.
If you do make a ArkOS video for the 353 handhelds that would be awesome! I know RGC made a video a while back about it but im sure theres been some changes since then plus another opinion on options would be great! Honestly havent even touched my 353m at all because when I received mine the 405m came the week after but this video is giving me a second look at it.
That's the Miyoo Mini. They don't have any in stock right now but check back because they restock often. miyoo.aliexpress.com/store/912663639/pages/all-items.html?spm=a2g0o.store_pc_home.pcShopHead_6001952523151.1&shop_sortType=bestmatch_sort
Yeah the VS is nearly identical, all of this applies to the VS. The X55 is probably my favourite budget device. Great quality and screen size for the price.
I just realized that your intro music has that distinct C64 sound. Like an underwater synthesizer or something. Is there a name for that sound? Someone had a great sounding remake of the famous C64 Commando music, I need to find it now.
Pretty cool choice, I might have to put it on my Christmas list. Santa better be real or I'm going to have find another reason to sit on fat stranger's laps.
Curating the roms to specific devices is one of my favorite to-dos in the hobby. I have a specific set iended up with on the RP3+, and recently a specific set for my RG35XX H. Around 16 to 100 roms only for each of the systems, and i only have 13 systems on each one. Basically i just ditched the systems i had no love for.
I would love so much if you did an in depth set up guide for this!! I got mine a week before the 405v came out and I’m very salty about that, so to see that someone enjoys this device so much would definitely help me appreciate mine more (hard coping rn)
Hello, I would be interested in the ArkOS guide. I tried it, and also Jelos, but in the end stayed with the stock OS. When I tested the 3, the stockOS had the best performance for Dreamcast, plus I love the hotkey for auto-fire, for SHUMPS. Thanks! Great stuff
Completely off-topic, in case you didn't notice. Russ did a video recently, where he showed his youtube. The first video suggestion was yours (RG405M if I recall correctly), and it was showing up as already watched.
I pretty much have a 35xx and a modded switch... those two do a lot of usefull stuff including playing games on tv having included controllers. Great vid tho :) keep it up!
Nope. The hardest games will not run at full speed here. If you want all N64 you'll want to go for a T618 device like the 405v or the RP3+ (or my current fav, the RP2s)
Noooo, TD went with the lesser good Firmware. JelOS has OTA updates nearly weekly, as of now. It's constantly being improved and all the Ports are there, too.
I'm still waiting on someone to make something that can play PS2 and that is also pocketable. I don not care about having a giant screen. I just want to be able to play those games on the go. Mayyyybe the retroid pocket 2S. But idk how well that handles the PS2 games I actually care about.
Hello Tech have you tried the Gamma OS for android ? because i put all of my games and saves on the Linux side on SD card 1 except for NDS i play that on android and on the android SD2 on Gamma OS i can combine it with SD so i have a 128 SD card so i have large internal storage and i can install games like TFT, Legend of Runeterra, Yugioh master duel, Guardian tales, Dragon city, and clash royale but for clash royale it rotates to vertical but it's ok XD and the only downside of Gamma OS for me is it doesn't have a built-in button to on-screen mapping software but small price to pay for to be able to install a lot of games and android games with controller support can detect the gamepad and it detects it to be xbox wireless controller but i haven't found a way to install a mapping software app for it yet because Gamma OS disabled display over other apps. I managed to install Genshin Impact, Honkai star rail, COD Mobile. but it so laggy i had to uninstall it XD
I have the RG353M and run the stock OS on android and use Daijisho on it. Love the simple use of it scraping all of your games. I love the ability to run it as a console. The Hall effect sticks are big plus as well and the ability of Bluetooth controllers. Great overall daily driver to have with you.
I really like the RG353P but I wish Amberelec would support 3566. I don't like where they put the power button because I kept hitting it while playing. I thought about getting a 353M but I don't like metal and still the cfw. So, I'm just going to hold on to my 351p even though it doesn't have stacked shoulder buttons. I use a x86 handheld as my main because it plays it all. You left out the Retro Arena and UnofficialOS also works on the 353V. I do prefer ArkOS.
2:52 I thought for sure the device he took all the time to tweak was going to be the OG Gameboy in the center, and that tweaking was going to be turning the contrast knob so the green and yellow play off each other juuuust right
Cool Video and I am happy you love your Nintendo style devices. Unfortunately, I don't have the same experience in life as for some reason the Chinese keep thinking that no one will buy a Sega style device. So, I am stuck without a handheld. Unless you want to consider the RS97 with IPS display and CFW firmware on it but, that's still a Nintendo style and the only one I will own as right now it's the only one I can afford to have and play. Even though it's many years old now. Oh well, guess gaming is for those who love Nintendo and not Sega like I do. Don't know if there ever will be a Sega handheld for me.

Able to connect to the tv and have wireless controllers. Fun little machine. Will you be getting the retroid pocket 4/4+?
Yup!
Excellent point on the analog stix
Now that we know this is your main device, which one is your favorite?
I guess I gotta make a video about that because I keep getting asked!
I don't even know how to grab save files
It's different on every device. The save files will be held in a 'saves' folder somewhere on your sd card, and you have to move them to the saves folder on your new device (probably in a different place if it's a different device). It's not hard but it's tedious and a pain in the buns.
My "main" device changes every few months or so.
Depends on what games I want to play, where I am & just my mood.
Excited for the AOKZOE emulation video
It's in the works!
Just bought a second hand grip for the Miyoo Mini +
Now i have a hard time spending time in the real world tbh😂😂
Been there!
Playing movies or music on the RG353V is redundant when you can just use your phone.
True, though it may be handy if you're out and about and don't want your phone to go flat? Doesn't hurt anyway 😅
Would this be good for a Pokémon/pokemmo machine. I’ve been on the fence for awhile about purchase
It's no RG353P but close enough :)
Hello can somebody point out to me the exact model of the smallest one (on the left side) at 1:31 please?
That's the Miyoo Mini. They don't have any in stock right now but check back because they restock often. miyoo.aliexpress.com/store/912663639/pages/all-items.html?spm=a2g0o.store_pc_home.pcShopHead_6001952523151.1&shop_sortType=bestmatch_sort
Awesome as always!! Please do an ArcOS tutorial so we can all enjoy this retro device!!
That’s the device I got! Well, the VS but close enough. The blue Powkiddy is tempting too for the screen size.
Yeah the VS is nearly identical, all of this applies to the VS. The X55 is probably my favourite budget device. Great quality and screen size for the price.
353v is a good companion to Steamdeck.. in an emergency situation you can use it as controller tru USB-C
I love my rg35xx
I just realized that your intro music has that distinct C64 sound. Like an underwater synthesizer or something. Is there a name for that sound? Someone had a great sounding remake of the famous C64 Commando music, I need to find it now.
Yeah I dunno! I found it on free music archive. There's a link in the description. Catchy tune huh?
I literally had a dream that I got a Miyoo Mini Plus the other night LMAO
Dreamin of handhelds!
Pretty cool choice, I might have to put it on my Christmas list. Santa better be real or I'm going to have find another reason to sit on fat stranger's laps.
Never fear. Mall Santas will always be real, and they'll always listen to your wishes, and always whisper what a good boy you've been.
Yes please show us the way of arkOS
The original MIYOO MINI V2 is back in stock in yellow with a crispy 750x560 display. Please grab one and do a review on it!!!!!
The output is worse, it's using 480p upscaling to 750x560 and hence less sharp!
@@TheJarnojarno miyoo is releasing a firmware update next month that fixes this.
Let us know if the rg405v becomes the new go to or if it's too big for the cargo pocket! It's about the same size as the original Game Boy!
I have one and will be testing extensively soon!
Hello, I would be interested in the ArkOS guide. I tried it, and also Jelos, but in the end stayed with the stock OS. When I tested the 3, the stockOS had the best performance for Dreamcast, plus I love the hotkey for auto-fire, for SHUMPS. Thanks! Great stuff
"it looks like a Gameboy" but you modified the face buttons!
I think that's what I'll get I've been wanting a system that plays almost all consoles
I'm getting one Mr. TechDweeb! Thanks for the recommendation!
Nice!
Can this thing do ALL N64 with no problems?? Goldeneye/perfect dark level ish??
Nope. The hardest games will not run at full speed here. If you want all N64 you'll want to go for a T618 device like the 405v or the RP3+ (or my current fav, the RP2s)
@@TechDweeb very helpful 👏🏾
lastly..interesting you favor the Rp2s over the rp3+? Would that be just a preference in form factor 🤔
Noooo, TD went with the lesser good Firmware. JelOS has OTA updates nearly weekly, as of now. It's constantly being improved and all the Ports are there, too.
i NEED that tutorial for ark 🙏
What game are you playing that has the 2d female protagonists
Give me a time stamp and I'll tell ya.
did he customize the buttons cuz i cant find that look :(
08:12
yes! ark os guide please!
2:52 I thought for sure the device he took all the time to tweak was going to be the OG Gameboy in the center, and that tweaking was going to be turning the contrast knob so the green and yellow play off each other juuuust right
It's a pipe dream! There is NO contrast knob setting that makes the screen just right! It's NEVER just right!
Cool Video and I am happy you love your
Nintendo style devices. Unfortunately, I don't have the same
experience in life as for some reason the Chinese keep thinking
that no one will buy a Sega style device. So, I am stuck without a handheld.
Unless you want to consider the RS97 with IPS display and CFW firmware on it but,
that's still a Nintendo style and the only one I will own as right now it's the only one
I can afford to have and play. Even though it's many years old now. Oh well, guess gaming
is for those who love Nintendo and not Sega like I do. Don't know if there ever will be a Sega handheld for me.
I promised myself i wont get another retro handheld but you might have made me break it. It sounds perfect. 🤬
New subscriber here, dunno why but that dance in pocketability part was awesome ahahah😜✌️✌️keep it up brother. I'm currently using 351p hope i can upgrade soon. Thanks for the info🙏 peace & respect from Malaysia 🇲🇾✌️
My main for retro is 405m. Better than 353v and way more comfortable. Basically the same size too. Its not much bigger at all.
Ark OS please sir!🔥
Just got the 353V today and love it.
Nice! Hope you love it!
