Big EDC guy here. Never without my knife, flashlight, pen, hank, Leatherman, and since I started watching your channel... my miyoo mini plus. I never leave home without it
Can I just say I really appreciate a SNES Aladdin enjoyer. People claim that the Genesis version is the best version because it was drawn by Disney artists, or whatever, but that game plays like thrash. They prioritized art over gameplay, which is a total gaming sin. The SNES version has awesome gameplay, music, and the art style is just as amazing. Don’t even get me started on the carpet levels and the final boss. Thanks for restoring balance, TechDweeb!
The Mr sujano reference made me actually laugh. I carry the A30 as my EDC and it's really really good. The inset screen makes it more durable and looks super retro in the famicom colour way.
It took the better part of a month, but I have now officially watched every single Techdweeb video. And I finally own my own retro looking Miyoo Mini as well. Bravo, good dweeb!
Thanks, TD. You're awesome as always, your videos makes everyone day better, the joy to have such small and precious things which bring happiness and nostalgia (my collection is getting bigger...)
I own 12 different handhelds The Miyoo Mini has by far the most play time. Miyoo Mini + Minui is a match made in heaven. No bs, just turn it on and game.
For me, I either have my retroid pocket 5, or my RG nano. My nano is for when I don’t have a coat/bag on me, for example my work has a lot of downtime so during then. My RP5 is taken pretty much everywhere else - if I have a way to hold it I’ll bring it! Sometimes i need a middle ground so my miyoo mini or mini plus comes along for the ride.
Just got my Brick in the mail... this screen just leaves me absolutely salivating, its amazing! Compared to my SP (which I love dearly) the Brick feels really premium in its build quality.
I like the Trimui Smart Pro, it's about the same size of a smartphone and a lot of people carry two of those so it's not bad in the pocket. It's basically everything you said about the Trimui Brick in a different form factor. I also like the extra bit of power to squeeze out some psp, which is great to play on a device with this shape and size.
Really looking forward to your next hidden gems video! I wasn’t around for any of the retro systems, so I love learning about cool games I never would have known about otherwise!
My A30 has been on the way for about a week! I'm so excited! I do expect to love it, mostly for price, portability, and especially wifi for those retrocheevos!
Love my Anbernic 28xx, but its the Nano that lives in the front pocket of my 501s. Music, video, photos, and my favorite arcade games with me all day, every day, without even noticing its there. Nothing beats that, lol.
The Trimui Brick's backplate is now sold separately. It ships with a plastic backplate from now on, kinda a dealbreaker in my opinion. Great video as always.
@@MrRagingMammoth They also don't directly address it. Brings the value down and i haven't seen video's about heat dissipation without a metal backplate. It already gets pretty hot, so now i expect it to be worse.
Wait, where did you find the info on it being shipped with a plastic one? Only thing I can find is someone saying “my purple brick didn’t have a thermal pad, looks like they might not be using the backplate as a heat sink anymore”, and even that could just be the manufacturer forgetting to include the thermal pad. If you’re talking about the custom metal backplate that you can have a logo custom cnc’ed, that was always an option from a good number of resellers.
Ok yeah no, just asked someone on the RH discord that got their Trimui Brick Friday, and they confirmed it still has the metal backplate and the heat sink. They ordered it last Monday, and I can confirm I outright can’t even find any evidence of a plastic backplate existing to begin with (except for the plastic back shell that’s separate from the metal backplate of course).
Because I missed out on the OG Miyoo Mini, I found myself latching onto the Miyoo Mini Plus a lot last year. And since Christmas, my bro has a Plus, too, and it never leaves his side! I'd consider it a good compromise between the smaller Miyoo and the Trim Brick. IMO anyway.
For sure, especially since the Miyoo Plus has wifi where as Mini doesn’t. So if you set up cloud saves they will all sync with your other handhelds or PC when you get back home on wifi.
lol love it... TechDweeb your the best. My go to is the RG34XX+ I like it because it is almost the same size as the og gameboy. I really don't have to worry about pockets sent I have a purse, got all the best retro stuff in there. My 2003 ipod that I upgrade to 128gb, my ti-108 calculator, my camera and my multicolor pen that is in the shape of a unicorn.
As someone who‘s really concern about portability and weight, i appreciate the individual crotch time for all the devices. And omg, In the Hunt! i totally forgotten about this game that i had loved so much in the past! Thanks for reminding me! 🤩
@@TechDweeb Ooo...Nice! With no other choice i had to just live with it and play In the Hunt and oh man, i fell in love. Beat the game multiple times and now i’m gonna go re-live my childhood memories again on my retro devices. Thanks again for reminding me!
I LOVED my miyoo mini - the controls, the firmware, the size - there’s something truly special about it. But I also wanted a EDC handheld I could use as an mp3 player. The brick is 100% that for me, with really good OTG support compared to similar devices so I can use my portable dac with it, better battery life, and a better headphone jack. The screen is also a very nice thing to have.
My wallet is so happy that I have the Miyoo Mini+ and RG35xxSP already. They cover a lot of the base, but I am going to be looking into the RG406V/H or Retriod Pocket 4 Pro now that the 5 is out. Great video as always.
I kept the miyoo mini plus in a grip case for a long time in my uniform pocket for time between 911 calls or while holding the wall at a hospital waiting for a bed (sometimes this can take over an hour if your patient is stable and sometimes they don't want to talk) But a couple months ago the 35xxsp replaced it, though it's just a hair bulky and the buttons are just slightly too firm so it gets a little tiring if I play for an hour, so I ordered the miyoo flip since it's identical in size to the original GBASP with supposedly lighter buttons. I think that will be my final form of pocket device until someone comes out with a version of that with more premium features like an OLED screen
Hail the Miyoo Mini! As much as I enjoy the likes of RP5, RGB30 and my high-end tablet for portable gaming there's still something magical about the Miyoo Mini that keeps me entertained.
My a30 is my edc. I take it everywhere. The analog is not only great for a ds stylus control, it’s great for some gba games that require diagonals. It’s not great with psp unfortunately but it’s more than enough for me. It’s not my favorite device I own, but I still adore it.
Howdy Mr dweeb! Id love to hear about why you choose the games you do, what you look for in a game to know if you want to actually play it or not, and how you play games (play one fully through, or play a bunch all at once)!
The A30 has been the one for me. I tried to fall in love with the Miyoo Mini but it just never felt comfortable in my hands, although it is so cute that you can't help but want to pick it up. I bought the A30 out of curiosity when I saw it going for
As I work from home, I barely got out. But when I do, it depends a lot of what I’m going to do and where I’m going to. My collection is small and these are the ones I consider when going outdoors: - RG 35XX (the original one, best size and battery endurance) - RG 35XX H (which I’m planning to give away and get the 40XX H instead) - I like to be a show off as it’s the smallest gaming device that runs GTA III and Vice City via Portmaster on the MuOS - RGB 30 (Greatest screen ever, my perfect choice for arcade games)
I saw a post on Reddit, where smn had the MM v2 in a transparent box for playing cards. I got one on Ali for like $2 - fits perfectly, is less bulky than the case and the MM has some level of protection
Nice list. Yeah, the Miyoo Mini V4's really grown on me. Thought it was too small for months but now I prefer it over my Miyoo Mini+. Can't say I'd choose either over my Purple Trimui Brick tho
Exactly my experience. I have both the Mini and Mini Plus but ended up picking up the Mini more often. Lately, I have been using the Brick and its amazing, the screen, the buttons, game options and how pocketable makes it an easy pick up. The overall look of it makes want to pick it up more often.
I have the TrimUI smart pro, MiyooA30 and RG35xxSP. The A30 is very light/pocketable and has wifi for retro Achievements, the screen is a bit small so good for short gaming sessions only. The RG35xxSP is compact but is does not feel good in the pocket due to its thickness. The Trimui smart pro actually fits well in the pocket, it's light and thin just like a phone and has a large screen. When I carry the device in pocket I don't put any other nonsense in the pocket like keys and coins so have not had any damage/scratches. I would like the Miyoo mini but pity it does not have wifi, it would be good for one handed play sessions while in the train or bus.
Right now, for me it's the RG Nano. It's mostly a music device, but a couple of minutes of GB/GBC here and there is good too. Even in its case, it's very small and lives in my pocket. It's the one that's always on me and I can just charge it at work when not using it. For non-square-handheld games, it makes sense to get something else but I don't have a lot of time to get stuck in a game when not at home.
It definitely would, but the 35XX SP is too heavy and bulky, and I don't have a Miyoo Flip yet so I can't say for that one (although in theory it could work well for this).
My EDC is an SA-HCPC, a ZT 4", and a knockoff Leatherman. And my trusty Flipzizzle and Cuktech battery bank... and my laptop, 100W power supply. #7 and #3 DaVinci Maestro kolinsky travel brushes. A synthetic flat brush. Medeed travel pallette and a stubby 60ml water bottle. Paul Rubens 7" pre-gummed edge watercolor book. A Sailor Fude fountain pen loaded with grey. A Kuretoke brush pen loaded with permanent black. At least two sizes of jelly roll pens. A light blue colored pencil. An HB2 Ticonderoga. Extra business cards for my store and my coffee roastery. Extra socks, glasses, and gloves. Ear buds with ambient sound. And of course, phone, wallet, keys, and a vape. And my waxed canvas bag for all of it because clearly I'm a level 100 hipster and that completes the look.
Gotta be honest, TechDweeb's thumbnail made me think it was for one of the EDC channels that I watch. Almost ignored it because there's so many "Best EDC [INSERT]" videos lol
The A30 has become my daily driver. I really just want to play GBA, GBC and GB titles. This is pretty darn great for those titles. It fits nicely in my EDC bag too.
If you are the type that always carries a bag or a purse, then suddenly so many more devices are EDC friendly. I always have either my TSP or Squazizzle with me. More recently it's the Squazizzle, because of the nice ergonomics, and how big GB and other squarish handheld systems are on its screen. Also, just loaded the TD theme on my O2 Portal... Yay!
For a long time, Miyoo Mini was my EDC, I even bought two in case I break one. I still think its size and shape are the perfect balance for EDC. But lack of sleep started to bother me. It'd lose power quite fast if I just paused the game and turned off the screen instead of turning off the device. Then I tried the 28xx, but the screen was too dim and didn't like the controls on it. Finally, I settled with MagicX Mini M. I liked it enough that I ordered their newest releases Zero28. Its right stick is convenient for Shmups in vertical orientation. I also have the Brick, but the narrower horizontal form factor feels more at ease in my pocket.
For me, the best GB clone is the RG35XX, Miyoo kind of got the scale wrong IMO, for the regular and Plus. Still amazing devices, all of them. Cheap retro handhelds cannot stop blowing my mind! And as always, great video!
I can understand the desire to have a light device and different things work for different people. But personally I found going from a Miyoo mini to a 35xxSP was a solid choice. I feel like the 35xx SP is the right blend of Good enough quality not to immediately break, but also cheap enough to replace if met with catastrophe (water damage, battery damage, impact/drop damage, etc.). Not only that, the 35xxSP for me has SLIGHTLY better ergonomics than most pocket devices and to me that is important. It has to be comfortable enough to play for longer than 45min and as much as 2hrs before my hands get crampy or stiff.
Before the 35xxSP I EDC-d the Miyoo mini... I got a 3D printed shell for it because I was ALWAYS afraid of damaging the screen. The "35-SP" solved that by just being a excellent clamshell.
TechDweeb me fait rire plusieurs fois à chacune de ses vidéos, alors que je ne ris pas pour rien. TechDweeb makes me laugh a multiple times on each and every videos of his, whereas I don't laugh easily. That character is so adorable.
I am very close to having my dream rotation of devices (instead of spiraling into buying 20+ that I really wish I had). I have my couch device (Steam Deck), a midsize one that's lighter and more portable, but less powerful (original idea was getting an RP5 but for some reason I can't get one from their website. So for now it is an android phone + USB c controller that works surprisingly well), and finally, a portable EDC! I'm really leaning torwards the Trim UI Brick but I gotta admit the Miyoo Flip is tempting me over, mainly because of the form factor. For now, my EDC is my old New Nintendo 3DS and while it is not that portable in comparison, I think I'm pretty happy with my rotation for now (also I promised my wife I wouldn't buy another device this year lol). Anyways, thanks for the video! Been loving my TechDweeb themed ES-DE devices.
Just a heads up for those that are considering buying the SD card for the Brick. I bought the Surwish cross mix 256GB card from Mechdiy and in hindsight I shouldn’t have. Since cross mix is still made for the the smart pro, a widescreen device, you will run into a couple of issues navigating menus and playing some games (Stardew valley port was in widescreen so half of the screen was chopped off).
I appreciate you mentioning the Funkey and the RG Nano, those or the Q36 mini would be my personal ideal EDC handhelds. Anything bigger is just too noticeable in my pocket and would distract me. Would be so awesome if they got a refresh for the funkey someday with a type C port and bigger battery considering those 3 run games better than the original GKD pixel lol. I might bite and try the pixel II gotta see how I feel.
The idea of having a EDC handheld is something I've been working towards for some time now. Got a 351M first, later on a RG35XX and they are both great. But it finally clicked after I got a RGB30 and Miyoo A30. I can use Syncthing to transfer save files on the go (Miyoo A30) and at home (RGB30). Nailed it...! Or so I thought. Turns out my A30 is having major WIFI issues and that pisses me off and makes me wanna throw it out the window. Haven't gotten the WIFI fixed yet - it can't detect ANY wifi networks - even after some google searching, so if anyone out there got a fix, I would be a happy camper!
Buddy there's no way you don't hike especially considering that you carry a pocket knife like that which is cool. I have a good sized knife myself along with a can of bear spray and plan on getting the Miyoo mini even though I already have a Switch and Legion GO. I also have a 3 liter mil-spec camelbak and added a Pokeball plus recently to that list. Hiking is great and I go easily 20 miles. Gonna get a CCW permit and G31 as well since I go into dangerous hiking areas alone too. I'm really glad to see more people posting self defense carries as it's a matter of survival and always good to be prepared. You should just do a straight up EDC video with the retro handheld and other stuff included.
The miyoo mini does exactly what you need it too and with the highest efficiency thanks to OnionOS. Any extra power to play higher end system is meaningless if the device isn't optimize for the experience, and this device is exactly that it's not just a handheld it's an experience like no other and still my number one vertical micro handheld.
Gotta be honest, when this video dropped I was sitting at work watching RUclips and playing on my Miyoo mini.
Either you did everything you had to or you don't have that much work to do. Or you just don't want to work now. Either way, congratulations.

It's the one that's always on me and I can just charge it at work when not using it. For non-square-handheld games, it makes sense to get something else but I don't have a lot of time to get stuck in a game when not at home.
Wow, TechDweeb has more than his fair share of handheld babies :p
I get around 😏
I always carry my 35XX in a shirt pocket for when I have to wait for my kid at the bus stop or anything else
I would have thought that a flip device would have been featured. I figured that the built in screen protection would have been quite the positive.
I carry the ambernic sp. Love that thing
My usual EDC is my Miyoo mini plus , but last month or so it has been my Retroid mini .
Yay!
i realize I spent my 20s raving entirely too much when my brain defaults EDC to is the festival lmao. I was all "wait, TechDweeb is a festival go-er?"
My EDC is a Canik Mete MC9LS and a Nintendo Switch Lite, one to save myself from potential harm and the other to save myself from guaranteed boredom
Don't leave us hanging, which is which??
It's the miyoo mini plus for me. A little bigger than this list, but the extra size makes all the difference... that's what she said
For a long time, Miyoo Mini was my EDC, I even bought two in case I break one. I also have the Brick, but the narrower horizontal form factor feels more at ease in my pocket.
miyoo mini + bluetooth + hdmi = Best of all!!!!
When dweeb says put it in your pocket then you PUT IT IN YOUR POCKET!
0:29 nice touch 😄👏🏼👍🏼
A tiny metal candy bar handheld would quickly become my bestfriend lol. I need a metal A30
My pick, and the one a have, is the AtGames Genesis Ultimate Portable Game Player. It plays both Genesis AND Mega Drive! Well 80% of games
Next arts and crafts with Dweeb. Making a leather slip to keep non foldable handhelds nice and minty in the pocket.
If that Surwish card doesn't have the TechDweeb Theme on then I DONT WANT IT.
Dude! The Datafrog SF2000
Sujano lmao... Dweeb, you cheeky. XD
I love EDC handhelds
i used your theme on my anbernicrg35xxsp, looks so 😎
Buddy there's no way you don't hike especially considering that you carry a pocket knife like that which is cool.
Rg28xx is my pick.
Free worldwide shipping is actually awesome. ❤
