Mine aren't in UK. Costs me 1/7 of cost of running petrol or diesel using 100 % renewable elec. Reliable and minimal servicing. Guarantee on battery was 7 years, now 4 less. Much better than most ICE cars. Battery deterioration 2% over 40K miles. Ultra smooth and quite. There are some places not appropriate for EVs but the longer those who have no idea about them spout rubbish, the more likely their own car manufacturers will be left behind.
The charging stations are usually owned by supermarket chains, hotels and hydro electricity producers. Petrol stations are going electric, too. Do not think there is any oil or gas money going into it.
Hypocrites? The foolish ones are purchasing their oil. They know what the wise thing to do is. Other countries, not wise at all. The speed at which China is moving is staggering. Once electricity is made by all renewables, the price of electricity goes down. The citizens have more money. The country has more money to purchase excess battery capacity. Hydrogen sounds like a viable alternative to batteries. There is, however one major problem: Hydrogen has a considerably lower energy density than does petroleum. also, hydrogen is produced through electrolysis of water. Electrolysis requires more energy to break the H2O bonds than the amount of power you get out of the resultant H2. Guess where that electrical energy for electrolysis comes from. Yep, the grid. All you’re doing is changing emitters from the car to the power plants. But, I guess you can’t virtue signal that.
It's even worse than that as (US 2021 figures) 95% of hydrogen is 'blue' generated by steam methane reforming. Yes, that is using natural gas to create the hydrogen.
H2 can be made from other alternative than Eloctrolysis. Only people with lack of knowledge thinks it's the only way to make H2. It can be made i.e. of natural gas where the carbon is captured and then the carbon is a solid that can be used to other things. It's such a stupid argument that production of H2 uses electricity, so it's better used in batteries. What about: the pollution in making Lithium batteries? What about the amount of water used to make Lithium? What about all the mining for the batteries? What about, theres isn't enough materials to make the worlds fleet of cars and truck with batteries? As to repair cost EV's have much longer guarantees on batteries than ICE car engines. 7 years verses 3. As for environmental you are wrong again. If you do the UK average of 12k a year the amount extra emissions from production will be offset within 3 years (given mixed electrical power generation) and over the lifetime it's way better.

Here in the UK, the used EV market which is extremely important is at best flat. All data points to EV desirability being low. Which translates to used car retailers having to be prepared to keep hold of used EV stock much longer than either petrol or diesel.
A lot of Brits are also not able to charge EVs at home on a low energy tariff, due to having to park in residential streets. This makes charging electric vehicles more inconvenient and expensive to run. I can’t see this situation changing in the near future.
Give people the choice of different technology vehicles and let the market dictate where the market goes. All companies cover all the technologies, they then cover there risk. Some of these CEOs are not worth there salaries.
The only smart choice when buying a car is a TESLA. Tesla cars can now drive them self. FSD tech is freaking AMAZING. I spend about 65 dollars a month home charging my Tesla. The app on my phone is a key and it tells me exactly how much money i spend in electricity .

Hydrogen is a nonstarter and EVs are dead until someone makes a battery that isn't a serious fire risk AND the power generation plants and distribution grid are updated to carry about 50% more electricity (percentage varies by country based on driving habits and non-EV electricity usage and by safety factor applied).
It took over 100 years to build up the power grid on the most efficient fuels available. Doubling that in 10 years with windmills and solar panels.... not going to happen.

I've owned two BMWs, however an i4 is not worth two-and-a-half Tesla Model 3s. I bought a Tesla and am happy I did. Hydrogen is incredibly expensive to manufacture, inconvenient to distribute, energy inefficient to produce, and to use. Don't hold your breath waiting for widespread adoption of H2 as a vehicle fuel.

What both BMW and Toyota seems to have missed when comparing hydrogen to electricity, when it comes to propelling vehicles, are two very important factors. The efficiency factor is the first thing to consider. The total process to produce hydrogen, then distributing it, and finally making a vehicle run on it is as low as 25%, which means it is even lower than fossil fuel. When comparing with EV's, we already have the production and distribution network in place and the total efficiency factor all the way to run the vehicle is around 70%. This big difference in efficiency is absolutely decisive as it means that running vehicles on hydrogen is very costly compared to electricity. The other factor is that a hydrogen propelled vehicle is more technically complicated than an EV and it has a lower range than most EV's, due to the fact that hydrogen has a lower energy density.
Why are BMW taking so long to release the Neue Klasse? Why did they stop innovating after the i3? The multi option successors have been uninspiring to say the least, the Neue Klasse vehicles might be great but not if they don’t release them for 2 years. I think that moving to hydrogen powered cars is fools errand. Think about hydrogen distribution versus electrical distribution to cars. Electric distribution involves high voltage wire, hydrogen involves trucking, maybe pipe lines. In my case 99% of time I can charge my car at home, and for those who live in apartments they will be able to charge their cars at street parking, garages... Hydrogen cars imply more gas like stations... I think that BMW and Toyota CEOs lost their minds pushing hydrogen, that will not happen. It seems many people have not noticed that there is in many places enough sunshine to power motor vehicles. I bought a 2 year old Mini electric and totally charge with my solar system. And an 8 year battery warranty. Perfect car for everyday town driving. And what fun to drive. Far better value than a petrol model.
No, there are very few places that have enough sunshine to power EVs if you factor in all the considerations in sizing rooftop solar systems. How many people have their cars at home charging during mid day when solar is producing? How many people will buy battery energy storage to go with their solar panels? How many utility companies will support grid connection of more solar when they already have more power than they can use during sunny periods?

My BMW i 3 that I purchased 7 yrs ago, is the best car I have ever owned. That said, not only are car manufacturers 20 yrs behind the Chinese, the rest of the world as a whole is 20yrs behind. Every city in China whether it is a Tier 1,2, or 3 status are all up about 67% electric. That is all vehicles, cars, scooters, motor bikes, taxis, buses etc. The UK and USA is at 2% and that is being generous.
Plus their % of ev drivers may be high, but their population isn't, & they're an almost unique state in terms of per capita gdp & their sovereign wealth fund, ergo they can afford to be faux green utopianists.

The bosses wife had one. Battery crapped out 2 weeks after warranty expired - quoted 28k to fix. resale was 32k...

Here’s the truth, in the United States over 40% of the people that have owned EV‘s are returning to gas engines. There are too many problems, not enough range in real driving conditions and complicated software issues and the realization that the whole climate change initiative is one big scam have thinking people and people with more discretionary income still wanting sophisticated combustion engines and I predict this EV push will shortly recoil back/truly there can be numerous power plant possibilities for vehicles and combustion engines are solidly one of them if Bmw throws all its eggs into the EV or hybrid market they will get destroyed as soon as a hybrid is initiated in a vehicle. It’s white goes up at least 500 pounds. Nobody talks about that. People don’t talk about the fire issues with batteries either as that is being suppressed. This is the globalist push to have China as a dominant player.

You are so smart that you do not even realize that Tesla has an 8-year 120k mile warranty on their battery. Many used Tesla cars are getting over 200k miles on their batteries. The price of batteries are coming way down. You can now replace a battery for about 6k dollars less than it would cost to replace a GAS MOTOR.
What a fool would buy an ICE that the critical engine failure will bankrupt your bank account. No ICE manufacturers give 18 years warranties either. Tesla has surpassed all the legacy automakers in quality and reliability.
A new battery is only $8k or so... and these prices will go down in future. New batteries will be like new transmissions in future.

You know that Norway almost has 100% ev:s as new car sales… So give it time and they will get there. They also export electricity so they are in the green right now at least. Electric grid must be in balance to work so it is impossible to produce for 100% ev’s if you dont have 100% ev’s

Not very many countries have this ability, and some that do have some hydro capacity, are shutting down dams in the name of this or that. So don’t make the mistake of using Norway as an EV example, when the conditions there are not similar to conditions at the majority of countries. Even in places where hydro is going, and idiotic opposition is not there, it is not possible to build hydro-electric dams to meet expected needs. Simply not enough rivers left, Norway being a possible exception.

BMW already went through this Hydrogen stuff years ago. I sat in the BMW 7 series iH in Germany back in 2001. Here we go again.
Hydrogen is a nonstarter and EVs are dead until someone makes a battery that isn't a serious fire risk AND the power generation plants and distribution grid are updated to carry about 50% more electricity (percentage varies by country based on driving habits and non-EV electricity usage and by safety factor applied).
It took over 100 years to build up the power grid on the most efficient fuels available. Doubling that in 10 years with windmills and solar panels.... not going to happen.

Lithium ion batteries are also non starters and jet they started them dispite them being a fire risk, heavy, expensive and only short lasting with toxic waste and no recycling.

The EU 2035 ban on combustion engine cars is only for the sale of new cars, so I envisage that people will just keep their current combustion cars longer, Here, in the UK, the government wants it to be 2030. But I don't worry, as neither will happen.

I've owned two BMWs, however an i4 is not worth two-and-a-half Tesla Model 3s. I bought a Tesla and am happy I did. Hydrogen is incredibly expensive to manufacture, inconvenient to distribute, energy inefficient to produce, and to use. Don't hold your breath waiting for widespread adoption of H2 as a vehicle fuel.
European luxury brands just need to diversify and look at producing hybrid technology. That will address the infrastructure issue and provide a solid transition solution.

Surely, the reason is greed. If you want that pretty light on the front of your BMW or a wireless phone charger, it's part of a £2K package. If you want electric seats in your Audi, its part of a 4K package. Do you want to go faster? Thats another £6K. And you say it doesn't come with that spoiler unless you pay another £2K.

The concept may be viable and cost saving if manufacturers first researched on basic raw material availability - batteries as well as post sale infra -charging station networks to make EV vehicles to customers a viable purchase let alone drive to transform the automotive landscape as a whole towards sustainable future
What both BMW and Toyota seems to have missed when comparing hydrogen to electricity, when it comes to propelling vehicles, are two very important factors. The efficiency factor is the first thing to consider. The total process to produce hydrogen, then distributing it, and finally making a vehicle run on it is as low as 25%, which means it is even lower than fossil fuel. When comparing with EV's, we already have the production and distribution network in place and the total efficiency factor all the way to run the vehicle is around 70%. This big difference in efficiency is absolutely decisive as it means that running vehicles on hydrogen is very costly compared to electricity. The other factor is that a hydrogen propelled vehicle is more technically complicated than an EV and it has a lower range than most EV's, due to the fact that hydrogen has a lower energy density.

Why are BMW taking so long to release the Neue Klasse? Why did they stop innovating after the i3? The multi option successors have been uninspiring to say the least, the Neue Klasse vehicles might be great but not if they don’t release them for 2 years. You can not charge EV more than ICE cars... and Hydrogen fuel generation and delivery are highly unrealistic...
I think that moving to hydrogen powered cars is fools errand. Think about hydrogen distribution versus electrical distribution to cars. Electric distribution involves high voltage wire, hydrogen involves trucking, maybe pipe lines. In my case 99% of time I can charge my car at home, and for those who live in apartments they will be able to charge their cars at street parking, garages... Hydrogen cars imply more gas like stations... I think that BMW and Toyota CEOs lost their minds pushing hydrogen, that will not happen. They should spend more energy to figure out how to successfuly compete with the Chinese automakers. Both BMW and Toyota are very good and inventive car companies, they can do it in electric domain!

It seems many people have not noticed that there is in many places enough sunshine to power motor vehicles.
I bought a 2 year old Mini electric and totally charge with my solar system. And an 8 year battery warranty.
Perfect car for everyday town driving. And what fun to drive.

No, there are very few places that have enough sunshine to power EVs if you factor in all the considerations in sizing rooftop solar systems. How many people have their cars at home charging during mid day when solar is producing? How many people will buy battery energy storage to go with their solar panels? How many utility companies will support grid connection of more solar when they already have more power than they can use during sunny periods?
Most people don't have a roof ie appartments etc
Many people cant get solar as they rent or are leasehold
How many miles do you do to get enough power from solar to cover it?

The real main reasons why the EV are not sellling:
1) much higher buying price than gaz car
2) the total asshole, the enormous stress and waste of time of recharging
3) much higher oprating cost (insurance, tire, repair , maintenance etc)
4) the lost of the battery autonumy every year
5) a lifespan of 6 years maximum compare to app. 15 years for gaz car.
6) the residual value going almost to zero after 5 years because you must replace your battery for 10k, 15k or more if available.
7) more EV on the road will double the requirement of electricity (power grid not enough)
8) EV are subsidized, meaning a taxe on everyone. (I am fed up of all taxes in Canada and US). A parasitic society never prosper.

My BMW i 3 that I purchased 7 yrs ago, is the best car I have ever owned. That said, not only are car manufacturers 20 yrs behind the Chinese, the rest of the world as a whole is 20yrs behind. Every city in China whether it is a Tier 1,2, or 3 status are all up about 67% electric. That is all vehicles, cars, scooters, motor bikes, taxis, buses etc. The UK and USA is at 2% and that is being generous.
Actually the UK is at 5%... California is at 20% or so.
China will regret their bad decision on EVs, no profits and become trash quickly.
