My mom use to make it with the poi bhaji..... yummmm... I however put a whole tomato in mine and for those who are stuck in the "traditional"way of making dhal, you don't know what you're missing. I love traditional food... but I also love to make it MY OWN. Chris keep doing what you do.... showing us some "wicked" ways to jazz up our meals.
Today, I'm doing the Dhal! Thanks for putting this out here, Chris. You've given me some positive vibes when I needed it. If the Dhal goes half as well as the Stewed Red Beans, I'll be happy.
Was just looking for new recipes, ended watching your videos. Love your ideas. Thanks! Learned to cook dhall in mauritius, this one is new version for me. hello from Ukraine!
Every time I think about adding something different I come on RUclips to make sure I've seen a video from you 😅. I used chopped dasheen bhagi in my dhal soup today.
I am gonna get my husband to make me one of those swizzle sticks! He makes me lots of stuff like that! I love that you do the cumin seeds, olive oil and garlic at the end!
Hey Chris! I just wanted to say thanks for all your great content, always delivered with a smile and enthusiasm. Best wishes from Yorkshire, England :)
Just a suggestion in bangladesh when we fry the garlic we also add a little dry red chillies to the oil and garlic and then put it in the daal after it makes the biggest difference and is absolutley delicious
Saw one of those .swizzle sticks in a grocery here( trinidad) last week. I never thought of buying one but it handled the split peas well, and it would be good to have when the electricity goes. I'll go back and get it. Great recipe chris, as always.
I asked a few years ago! I eventually found one at a thrift store about three years ago..love my wooden sizzle stick!💜 great recipe again keep em coming
Great idea of adding the spinach and kale. I would usually cook them as another side dish, to serve over rice with curried chicken. Looks very tasty Chris. Great idea!
Thank you soooo much for this one...my husband is from Curacao and we were give 10 bags of fresh split peas...I was like Lawd send me a recipe to use because I dont know what Im doing....thanks so much again!🤗🤗👍🏽🤗👍🏽🤗🤗
Wow ! A new way to make daal with spinach. Thanks for sharing will definitely try. Generally i tamper my daal with clarified butter (Ghee) that tastes really amazing !!
I typically cook with jalapeños/datils or red savina's. I knew if I clicked on your videos there was gonna be some kind of chilis being used haha. Haven't cooked much with scotch bonnets, but I need too!
Bro you know it’s because I saw the post on Instagram I found out about this video. RUclips notifications is still broken. Anyway on a positive note this is my kinda food. I drink dhal in place tea 😁👍🏼👊🏼👊🏼🇹🇹
Chris they do have them around still in Trinidad and "NOT" difficult to find. Guess you making a foreign DHAL. Since when "KALE & SPINACH is used. Just let your viewer know it maybe your VERSION or additional touch. Nevertheless, love your COOKING.
You assume I didn't go everywhere looking and I think I was clear when I said Poi Bhagi (Malabar spinach) is what's traditionally used. I'm in Canada and cannot get access to Malabar spinach (well I can now as I just planted in my garden). Maybe you're the one who's unaware of Poi being used in Dhal to be very authentic
Thank you Chris or whoever for your positive reply with a heart/ love image. I once made a positive comment on another cooking video, and instead the person see it as " thinking out of the box" , their response was bad words in characters form. Thanks again and you are so blessed to continue to give your mom credits. Happy Cooking.

I've recently created a Facebook group called Carribbean Vegan Recipes. I've shared your video on there, I hope you don't mind.
Jesus loves you
I just try to make Dahl on Sunday and It was too salty. I will try this recipe next.
I had the same problem when I first started making dhal.. then I started going with little salt and adjust near the end
Too salty bcuz "YOU"put too much salt.go little at a time
😜🤪😋😋😋😋
I'd cheat and do the split peas in my pressure cooker
I'm not a fan of pressure cookers, but they do get things done quickly
