A great tutorial on the functions of the FR-3X. This is a must to be viewed by all 3X v-accordionists. Richard, you have created a very clear and understandable tutorial for understanding these functions.... thanks for doing this!
Thank you Richard for putting this up. Very nice demo and insight into the FR-3x, which I'm planning to purchase. This helped me become a little more familiar with the instrument. Your efforts are valued by all who are interested in Roland V accordions. Fine playing as well.
Hi Richard, thank you so much for posting this video. I've watched your other videos over and over but this is the first instructional video I've seen done by you. I appreciate it greatly as I am ordering my Roland FR-3X in about 8 hours. You are right..these things can be very intimidating to a beginner and that is me! I'll definitely be back to this video for guidance and instruction. Thanks so much for your time and effort in making this video!!! Hope more are to come!! Pat
I had to sift through 20 demos before I found yours. Thank you for making it understandable and accessible. Now can it sound like a blues harmonica and can you make it rock? Seriously.
The FR3x seems to bee like a spot on balance between size and price. It would be nice if the FR3x came in red, but anyway, this is such a beautiful instrument. I am a big fan of Roland synthesizers and samplers, such as the D-50, and S-770, respectively. As well, as their MIDI controllers, like the wonderful weighted action A-80, and my all dream instrument, the RD-1000. However, today's Roland synthesizers/keyboard offerings are not desirable to me. There's something wrong with the design. But, the V-accordions are fantastic. Beautifully designed, and beautifully made. No corners cut. Also, the operations via actual buttons instead of touch screen are far more appropriate for a musical instrument. All those sets and registers might be cryptic, but once mastered, they should come as second nature. I wish I could play accordion, these V-Accordions are so desirable.
The sounds are good to me, and so is the instrument. I very much like the FR-1x and FR-3x as they are. No need to change anything. From FR-7x I'd remove the LCD is too big, but they already discontinued the FR-7x. FR-8x color LCD is out of place. That's again why I like the FR-1x and FR-3x.
HI Richard, I seem to be getting all different answers to this question. I heard a Roland on here by the rolandmedia girl. Dark hair and glasses, I think it's an FR-8X. She played a short piece being referred to on the screen as a Pipe Organ. I called Roland and also another Accordion store in NY and they said that organ sound can be played on 1x and up. However, Roland said that is only on the 8x. Then again I think I heard this played on here on a 3x. Can you clarify which is the lowest priced model that has the PIPE ORGAN sound on it? Thanks for your help. Love listening to you play.
Hello Richard, thank you very much for so many excellent videos on Roland V accordions. I would be grateful for an answer to the following question which I have attempted to answer, without real success, by studying the manuals. Are the only significant/important differences between the FR 1x and the FR 3x the sizes of the treble and bass sections and the number of user sets that can be stored? Many thanks once again for your valuable and enjoyable videos
In my view, the most important difference is simply the number of treble keys, at least if we are considering the piano accordion versions. The difference is significant as it affects how readily you can play songs without worrying about which key to play it in, for example. User PROGRAMS (not sets) is another difference, but not a huge one. The 3x has 10 User Programs, the 1x has 8. Both instruments should probably be played through external speakers for best sound quality.
Hello Richard, all the way from the Australian desert! I have been performing on my FR-3X extensively over the past 3 years (totally loving it:) & something that I have always thought is that the accordion chords are too still too loud even when the individual volume OCL has been set to -20. I was wondering if you have discovered any hacks on reducing their volume even further? Thanks for posting your videos, they are the best resource out there :)

Well, the answer is not entirely simple. You CAN play the pipe organ on all of the v-accordions as long as you have the AccOrchestra expansion installed, AND you create a set that applies the pipe organ sound. None of this is difficult to do. However, I can make the pipe organ sound better on the 7x and 8x because both of those instruments allow you to "layer" more than one orchestral sound, AND their internal speakers are better. Further, it can be a bit tricky to make the pipe organ sound realistic, but, with appropriate programming, all of the v-accordions will allow you to play the Pipe Organ sound with varying degrees of success. I don't think you will be able to replace a real pipe organ, but you can certainly use it to good effect once you get the programming right, and understand how the bellows need to work to create the pipe organ sound.I don't use the pipe organ often, but have played it on each of the v-accordions. My youtube of Tocatta in D Minor uses a Pipe Organ on the 7x.
HI Richard, Thank you for answering. Could you tell me what the AccOrchestra expansion is?. Is this another machine or box attached to the accordion or a software item?. Thank you.
Hola Hector. Richard vende unos sets estupendos para este acordeon. Si te agrada la electronica musical este modelo es liviano y versatil. Para personas como nosotros sobra. Tiene un manual bastante entendible. El resto puedes preguntarme que te puedo asesorar. Hugo.

Hi Richard, I love the user sets you just played (french musette, the two masters, ). Are those part of the User sets you sell on your website?

Hugo.
para comprar un acordeòn como este a que direcciòn debo hacerlo ?? por favor decirme si lo puedo por internet, estoy en Quito Ecuador
good and interesting demo, but not helpful in being able to program my instrument. Too complex.
What about free bass? I wanna knooooow
I assume most of the sounds are electronic, not created by reeds, right?
It is entirely electronic. No reeds. It requires bellows, just as with an acoustic accordion, to produce and manipulate most sounds.
