This is just brilliant and espectacular to hear those beautiful sounds coming out of this accordion. It is nice to listen to you playing Mr. Noel. Congratulations.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍
HI, I am not an accorian player, YET, but I am fascinated at the various sounds you can get out of one of these. At the moment I play the organ, but what confuses me is the chord and bass buttons. Do any of these come with a midi connection?
Good question. I definitely am not using the factory sets, although in some cases I borrowed ideas from their examples. Each of the sets I played are from a group of 13 sets I programmed with the sounds I like. I wouldn't say I tweaked but rather started pretty much from scratch. In every set, and even across sets, I'm trying to order the registers in a way that I can remember the positions without having to look at the screen. Then I test them on gigs and tweak some more.
The prices vary a lot--check online for various prices from dealers. I can give you dealer suggestions if you email me, but in general I'd suggest going with a dealer who can give you a fair price and good service. That isn't always the cheapest price.
Very nice demonstration of the Roland. I play a few of the tunes you played on the demonstration. Also Subscribed to your channel on youtube. Own several full size accordions. I started later in life at 36 years to learn to play the accordion and have just kept going, practice 2 hrs every night. Am now 70 yrs young. LOL. Its a great hobby. You are extremely accurate on the accordion. Wish I had that talent. I amm with an accordion band and we play gigs at seniors villages.I enjoy your videos.
@bakersfieldaccordion Richard, can't wait for your new songs ... I doubt that I will beat you to them. I had an injury in my left hand and couldn't play for weeks. Well, two weeks ago I started practicing again but I felt like a beginner ... thanks for informing me of the comment in the Roland user group concerning my work. Wow, that's really a motivation for me to continue. Greetings, Silvia
Richard, Thank you for your most generous sharing on RUclips. I am anticipating the purchase of the Roland FR-7X and Internet has been my only avenue of information. Are you in sales? I would very much appreciate an opportunity to speak with you or email you privately, if possible. Sincerely, Carol Lienhart
Yes, there are a number of different systems. What I like most about the Roland is the ability to change dynamics via bellows and touch sensitivity rather than using a foot pedal, and it also is amazingly portable and self-contained.
I'm not sure what you mean here. You can link the 7x to external midi modules, but the way I am playing it is based entirely on the internal sounds of the 7x. No external modules of any sort, but the internal voices are all digital reproductions of the instruments. Most sounds are controlled by the bellows, such as the accordion reeds & sax; some are touch sensitive, such as the piano. Almost all parameters can be adjusted, and the sounds can be shaped in many ways. Richard
Very good demonstration. I am having Limex - midi in my accordion, but very interested which other good sounds other companies can produce. Good to compare it. Greetings from Germany! Dieter
Funny thing happened. Back in the day keyboard players were so grateful to Bob Moog that he came up with a portable synthesizer, to the point that some said that if it weren't for Bob Moog, we'd be all play accordions these days. That of course implied that accordion was something not cool at all. And today, Minimoog is such a cliched thing. We all want $5,000 red Roland accordions now, but can't afford...
Very fine demonstration. Same high level as John Letteeri. I have just bought a fr-8x. I would like to know if my New instrument has the same good possibilies as Fr-7x?
Thank You ! I rescued my accordion from Mom's basement after 40 years of it hiding in the closet. You've inspired me to dust off the instrument and my fingers and play again.Love your music and the Roland is a beautiful instrument !
Very observant. I do use the master bar occasionally, but with caution because it can take you out of "preset" mode so that you cannot quickly access the registers you've carefully programmed with the bass, chord, and treble combination. This only occurs in the preset registers that you have programmed with a solo Orchestra voice. Many 7x owners routinely use the orchestra tab (register 15) to access the orchestra voices, but I greatly prefer the linked preset approach that I'm using here.
It's so nice to see the accordion making a comeback for it is such a versatile instrument when you have an accordion you don't need anyone or anything else except possibly a singing voice! Grazie, giovanni
To be perfectly frank, all sounds other than accordion are cheap sounding and sometimes even awful, especially pianos, guitar and brass. They sound like a cheap keyboard you can buy at Walmart. Better stick to accordion sounds, which aren't too bad. Very nice playing though. Thanks.
Thank you, Richard, for showing us how you access the sets. Now I understand how you are able to utilize the many voices and registers. I admire your proficiency on the Roland and your fine musicianship! Many thanks for your instructional videos. Lorna
Very impressive indeed. Is this using factory settings, or have you tweaked or changed any registers. The sounds were really authentic. I have to look again at my Roland!
I thought it was a dumb question after I had posted, then looked at your title but, it just shows what nice sounds you can get, it you are prepared to delve and tinker. thanks for sharing this with me, it sort of opens possibilities on what you can acheive. Thanks a lot Eddie
Thanks, Mike. I'm afraid I'm not the right person to do the "how to" video. My way isn't quite "by the book," but it works for me. What's involved is coupling the desired Bass, Treble and Chord section voices in Menu 2.12, 2.13, and 2.14. There's not enough space to explain further, but once you get the concept it's not difficult, just very time-consuming. There are at least two youtubes that demonstrate the process in different ways. Maybe I could respond separately if you email me.
I just listen to you again and again and I truly like your style and the way you organized your sets. I play only on the italian set 4 and tweek and layer the orchestral voices banjo plus harmonica, vibs with flute, piano with strings, altosax with brass. and i use the bass drum and jazz cymbal on the acoustic bass and guitar, piano. for the latin rhythm i change the chord to organ and layer it with a woodblock
Hi Silvia, Someone recently mentioned your work on the Roland users group, and the praise was richly deserved. I've been out of commission for weeks while trying to polish up my sets and responding to many, many emails. Looking forward to doing several new songs I have in mind if you don't beat me to them. Richard
That's a fair question. I didn't have a list I followed, so I had to go back and review the video. Anyway, there were excerpts (sometimes quite brief) from a total of 34 songs. There's not enough room to list them here, but I added the list to the description above. Just click the "see all" tab above and you'll see the list at the end.
Very nice demo-plaing, Thank you...................but why buy a Roland when you can buy a keyboard with a lot more feautures for less money ? And if you want to play accordion - then you do not buy a Roland, do you ?! But still, you are very good at playing the Roland :-) Greeting from Denmark
The Roland is not for everyone. For me: 1. I can't play a keyboard effectively so that's not an option. 2. I play an accordion and I DO buy a Roland because it does everything a traditional accordion can do, and so much more. I have played many of the best acoustics but prefer the Roland for everything I play. 3. Obviously many of the keyboards do have more features. But I can walk around at gigs, play like a traditional accordionist or as a keyboardist. More flexibility for me, at least.
Richard, glad to see - and hear! - you again, I've been missing you ... :-) great video, as always. And a perfect demonstration of the wonderful instrument we have. Your sets and registers are really very well elaborate. Silvia
Hi Richard, Thanks for sending me your 21 customized sets. I followed your Tutorials 1 and 2 and found the importing steps easy to follow. I have to say that what you have done in layering sounds to suit the style and choice of melody is truly amazing. You've clearly put a lot of time and thought into getting the most out of the Fr 7x, and now all available to the rest of us with a simple touch. Much appreciated and thanks once again, Tom
I'm not sure if I understand--do you want to add piano + voice as in set 70, register 3? If so, just layer the voice to the piano using menu 6.12. Or email me and I could send you more information. Richard
I'm from Denmark too. I play an acoustic Weltmeister accordion, but would also like something flexible like this, just for funsies. I love my Weltmeister, though. Apparently it's old and from the 1970's and it wheezes like a drunken sailor who has smoked too much throughout his life, but that's what gives it its charm. Wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
Hi I have a fr7x and was wondering if I can bring the tones I like on 1 set ..say set 1 and different tones that I like brought over to the 14 couplers on that one set
This is truly a great pleasure to hear the multiplicity of beautiful sounds, and the way Mr. Noel execute this beautiful instrument. He is unique in mastering this accordion. Sincere congratulations Mr. Richard Noel. 👏👍👏

I began playing a year ago. I play mostly klezmer and eastern european folk, but damn I hope I can be that good one day!
magnifique!
Muy Lindo. Saludos de Argentina!

I'll be damned if that thing isn't just about the most versatile one person instrument on the planet.
Beautiful instrument. But, how much it cost? Because I am an amateur
accordionist and I need buying a new accoridon.

If I were Mr. Big ROLAND... I would make Richard my official Roland accordion demonstrator!

Very nice playing though. Thanks.
i'd pay money for a DVD of this guy playing (to the end) all of these songs this way.
Did you go to music school or you're self-taught? You have really good technique. I like you're demonstration. Keep on like that :)
Hej!

Thank you, Richard, for showing us how you access the sets. Now I understand how you are able to utilize the many voices and registers. I admire your proficiency on the Roland and your fine musicianship! Many thanks for your instructional videos.

Thanks for the comments. I wish I could play klezmer and eastern european folk, but I just haven't gotten around to it.

Hi, Mr Richard Noel !
