If somebody told me there exists a digital accordion with pitch bend, aftertouch and independent layering I would told them to stop inventing. Yet here we are and my mind is blown away.
I’m not an Accordion player but I love the modern technology. At 80 years old and a ex woodwind player I have moved into the digital age, I now play the Aerophone AE30 and like you I enjoy the complexity of this instrument. Keep up the great work and keep enjoying your music. An ‘ol fan from New Zealand 🇳🇿.
Thank you for one of the best Digital Accordion demos I’ve seen. I have a Roland FR4X Accordion, which I bought about four years ago, and am still enjoying playing and discovering new sounds. The Korg is a marvellous instrument especially in your hands.
Mind-blowing!!! I am a music lover and have been extremely interested in instruments since childhood. At that time, I was always eager to know which instrument was playing in the song. Unfortunately, I couldn't choose a profession but graduated in Fine Arts (Graphics) in 1973. I'm 74 now, but my passion for music never fades out! The accordion was one of my favorite instruments. This is a great Accordion that will continue to mesmerize people like me!!! Danke!! 💕 Greetings from Karachi, Pakistan. ❤❤❤❤
Great instrument, no doubt. But then, magic is never really *in* the instrument. It's in the hand that plays it. Hats off to you Matthias! You are an accomplished master.
Thanks for the demo Matthias. Korg has always made a good quality product and it's nice to see that there's a bit of competition in the accordion world for the Roland. Keep up the good work!
Surprisingly, it's not so much a rival for Roland accordions; it's more a continuation. The guy who developed this is the same guy who developed the Roland one. This is essentially an FR-9X
I'm so glad your video popped up on my feed. You are clearly having a lot of fun, and you make it look so easy (of course it's not). This instrument does seem to provide an overwhelming number of possibilities for expression.
Thanks a lot! Yes, the accordion in general has so many possibilities. In a digital world, that's the blast! I once met Jordan Rudess who listened to a demo of me playing a previous digital accordion and he was very interested. He said the only thing he misses, is pitch control - here we go now!
It is incredible how Korg gets the same sound character over many decades, they are now so famous for their broken-like sound reproduction, lo-fi feel, and the feel that the speakers are blown out. Bravo Korg.
Does it also have a midi output or can it be used as a midi controller? I could also imagine it being very interesting as a midi controller. I had accordion lessons myself for many years but then stopped playing the accordion because I find it too limited for modern music. A digital accordion like this could change that.
@@RedHair651 because he probably want to play north american music/global music which has very low use of accordion. But I bought one to play the popular music from my region, here accordion is the main instrument.

I started in 1956 playing and still playing. Play midi mostly and soon won't be able to play. Enjoyed your playing and demo. Will stick with my Ketron and acoustic. Hope more people take up this instrument in USA. also play zither
Amazing tech. I'm looking at this in different way. Not as a digital accordion. For those who use sample libraries to create movie scores etc., the amount of articulation for something like a violin, oboe etc,..could be very powerful. There have been many devices and keyboards designed to help with that - but most come up short. Thanks for sharing. The price might be an issue for some. Amazing performance on your part. Cheers. 👍
Thank you for the informative DEMO! I admit I had to think of *ROLAND* during your demo as I own one. Being older, I don't need much for satisfaction but LOVE the new DIGITAL enhancements for this (STILL) great instrument! Thank you!
I bet most people don't realize how cool it is to have velocity sensitive keys on an accordion. On a piano, the notes are velocity sensitive... their initial loudness depends on how hard you press. But, on a piano, you can't change the volume once the note is hit. With a traditional accordion the volume is related to bellows pressure. Being able to use BOTH techniques enables a degree of expression that I'm not sure any other keyboard instrument has delivered on previously.
Weird Al is an amazing musician and using this to trigger and modulate a well chosen set of samples and synthesiser settings would allow him to blow a whole other set of minds with a different kind of parody. Add FutureMan and Wintergatan on backup. Probably sell a lot of digital accordians.
Do the bellows have resistance based on how many notes you are playing or not playing? Is air being pushed in and out like a non digital variant. From playing a mechanical one many years ago, I remember the button to close the bellows back up, but you would hear the air escape as it does. So many questions... Fantastic device and fantastic playing too.
In the specifications, I see that it has 9 types of temperament. Which are they? I expect that these would be Pythagorean, /4-comma meantone…, some predefined microtunings of the notes. Do I understand that correctly?
Lovely! I got the Roland Fr-4X a few years ago, and this Korg's new invoation seems to have a bunch of additional interesting and super cool features, however one thing I still didn't like about it (the same thing goes for the Roland Fr-4X) is the bellow shakes, you said it's like acoustic, it doesn't sound like that to me, the responsiveness of the acoustic reeds to the bellow shakes is still superior. you gotta try doing the triple or the quadrible shakes on this digital accordion and see how hard it is, and how still not quite there in comparison to the acoustic one.
I have the Roland FR-8X which I love this accordion is blowing my socks oFF. An instrument that is all most impossible to duplicate is a steel guitar but this accordion my just be the one to do it. If it works, I would love to see a demonstration. I enjoy your playing.
