Brilliant! I have no interest whatsoever in opening a bar, but found this fascinating. Rick you’re a born storyteller/communicator. Great vlog Ricky I use to visit Tenerife every year for probably 20 to 30yr with my family. We used to go into the plough and then the world famous garden bar which webby ran. Great landlord and his wife Dawn + son matthew

You've got the right idea, Rick. No overheads, staff responsibilities, and you can choose where to work and with whom. That kind of freedom beats business ownership IMO. Most people don't realise it's much easier to start a business than to exit one !

hI Rick, This blog does make so much sense mate, stay this side of the bar seems the best idea by far lol, there are of course exceptions to every rule, maybe sticking to a certain type of music, like say the Soul suite does, and never vary it but takes time to develop any neisse market, and I agree the hours you have to but into a bar are very rarely worth it. Cheers mate

Excellent advice for anyone thinking the grass is always greener being self employed or a business owner. Apart from the financials a business takes over your life. You constantly have it on your mind with the stress of staff issues, staff theft potentially and cash flow .It can cause stress and relationship problems. Living to work is not worth it in the big picture of life.
Have to agree Kerr. But I do admire the people who do it.

I'm just back, was over last week. I'm a big fan of the new bar opened called the 19th hole in Los Cris, it's brilliant for sports and always busy. Seeing the 19th hole and Buddies which is just up from it, there was a big difference, everytime I walked past Buddies there was only about 8 people in it. Its a tough gig owning a bar out there. The Vault is probably still my favourite though.

Really enjoyed this one. Rick. We’re money is concerned nothing is easy. The cocktail of my choice is negroni 😜. Remember that if I ever bump into you 😂 the island bar. Opposite teneriffe sur. closedown the day we arrived two weeks ago today best cocktails in los cris in my opinion 🤷♂️. Have a great weekend 👍🏻

We love that area you walked today Rick, and after leaving the Winchester bar @ 12pm and they have to stop the live music @ 11pm was amazed to hear the new irish bar absolutely bouncing after midnight as we walked back to our hotel The Colon Guanahani which is by the Scottish bar complex you visited

I Have been coming to Tenerife for over 30 years, I have seen people buying a Bar and loosing their life savings when it didn't work out, I have said to Family its a beautiful place to live or visit But its the Island of Broken Dreams for Many in Business

Reasoning is spot on Rick having ran businesses for a number of years I don’t think people realise how much time and effort you have to put in.One of the comments that really annoyed me was “ you can take off anytime you like because you work for yourself” unless you do it you don’t really know

I was surprised that the Tropic Queen in las vistas next to the Sun King closed, but even more surprised it has now opened as a general shop, it is in a catchment area with beautiful views, seemed like a gold mine..

I’ve been in exactly the same situation Rick. It wasn’t a cocktail bar but an East Neuk fabulous wee pub near St Andrews. Thankfully it didn’t happen. You’re doing the right thing , work for someone else let them have the stress.🥴

In my opinion possibly in future you could consider taking all or part of your Pension Plan to invest in a business or property

Not a easy game to get into, so many bars in your 10klm square, its hard to stand out, sometime things just click for a bar, and sometimes they dont for no great reason. Good video Rick, i like vlogs like this, always learn somthing, even if its just seeing someone elses point of view 🤘🏻

Our favourite bar is PJ's,in every night without fail when we are over there except Mondays

Cocktail Rick I agree it is physiological as I walk about looking to go into a bar I do tend to fall back into my comfort zone
The psychological reason as to why we DON'T go into a bar fascinates me! It really does lol.
Very true my biggest issue is I was in the forces and I get very uneasy if I think I’m getting blocked in weird as I was a firefighter so not frightened of confined spaces at all but if I cant sit with my back to a door in a bar I need to see what’s going on 😂😂😂

Hi Rick, I prefer the other side of the Bar, mind you it would be hard work and long hours in a Bar, so many to choose from on this Vlog though, Margaret my Wife cleans a Italian 🇮🇹 Restaurant 5 days a week , it doesn’t open on a Monday, it’s a New Built been open for 3 years but he has been in Business for 30 years in different locations locally, his Rent is £5000 per calendar month, that’s before you put the Gas or Electric on , Staff wages etc , you’ve laid all the options on the table quite rightly, it’s scary stuff, some people don’t think before they go into it. I don’t know how some of these Bars make it money wise, but Hey , hope the new job is doing okay, I saw a small clip of you Dancing 🕺🏼 at the end of a small clip that Meg had done. Enjoy Rick . Aye Rick, Albufeira old town, almost all of the bars are owned by one group of people, they set the rules and prices for everyone else!
Ive seen a bar in costa adeje have numerous owners then closed down 12 months later ! Everytime we visit Tenerife it always has new owners 🤦🏻♀️ its not far from tenerife first excursions ! Maybe its a bit too quiet and out of the way who knows 🤷🏻♀️

Cocktail, I have seen a few friends fail with bars on the Costa del Sol for reasons such has location and drinking the profits and unfortunately paying protection money..
Always find it strange that Brits are surprised that Spain has a different legal system.

Rick if you were offered that bar from about a year ago was it offered with residency, hows your mates knightstrider bar going,i see webby had successful bars over 35years.
I doubt Knightstrider is Ricks mate. Webby made a living in the good times and probably grafted and didn’t drink the profits
